Search Topics includes topics without search term

In testing my .chm output, when I type in a search term and select the 'List Topics' button, the list of topics includes many topics that do not include the search term. I had assumed that the search function was a free text search, and would only include topics where the search term is present. Can someone clarify if my assumption is incorrect, or if there is some configuration change I need to make prior to generating the .chm to ensure only topics where the search term is present are included in the search results?

Hi there
Can you please clarify that a wee bit?
What specific term are you finding that shouldn't be found? Please list some examples and perhaps we can offer alternatives or maybe explain why it's working as it is.
Cheers... Rick

  • How do I link to a HelpID or a Search Term without any programming, through a URL?

I have looked through the documentation, and it seems that every "possibility" to call either a search term or a HelpID/CHSID for my documentation is to use some sort of API.
Is there a way to call the search function and CHSIDs directly by only typing a URL in a browser (or link from another page, or from an email, etc etc)?
I'd actually like to know for all 3 outputs I am potentially going to be using: WebHelp, WebHelp Pro (RoboHelp Server 9) and HTML5, as I'm not sure yet which form it will take at the software release.
    Thanks!

    Hi OL-Lachance
A couple of items I would add to Willam and Colum's comments.
At the present time, WebHelp Pro (the Rh Server 9) does not support HTML5 output. WebHelp on a conventional web server is fine.
In terms of the odd terminology for CSH, the term MAP Number or Map ID, generally refers to a unique number that is assigned to a topic so that it can be referred to in the application calling the help. The Topic ID is generally an alphanumeric string which is often the name of the topic title connected by underscores. Depending on the language of the application, sometimes only the Map number or sometimes only the Topic ID is used. Or, as you have learned, sometimes neither one is used and a URL is used instead!
You and your developers may also find these topics helpful in the RoboHelp online help which can be downloaded here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/robohtml/robohelp_11_help.pdf
Look at Chapter 11 for some interesting specifics on the many ways to call CSH. Of course the links mentioned in Willam's and Colum's posts are excellent as well.

  • Robohelp 9: Error when using search terms including the word "not"

We are moving from Robohelp 7 to Robohelp 9.  We realize that Boolean operators such as NOT are supposed to be working now, but we do have times when we might find ourselves using search terms that include the word "not" on its own.
The problem that we are finding is that if we search for something like "office not installed", because that phrase is part of a specific error message we might be trying to locate, we are getting the error, "The words you typed is not a valid expression" [sic].
We have tried making modifications to the Stop Words and Always Ignore words and can't seem to find a solution.  We do need to be able to search using the word "not" as a regular search term.  Even as a Boolean operator (NOT), we are getting the same error.  Searching for "office installed" will get us the result that we want, but we have a team of users who will definitely instinctually search using the word "not" since it's part of the error they are searching for.
    Thoughts?

    Hi Benjamin
First, I don't believe the Always Ignore has anything to do with Searching. That particular list is used when you instruct RoboHelp to build an index using the Smart Index Wizard.
Actually, something like "Office Not Installed" is a perfect use of the Index. But I'm guessing here that your system doesn't include an index in favor of trawling through the pile of words in the project.
If you aren't using an index yet, I'd highly suggest you investigate it. In a properly indexed system your users will find what they are looking for infinitely faster and easier than they ever will by using Search.
    Just a thought... Rick

  • PDF files are very faint and the search function doesn't highlight the search term when found

I'm using Firefox 5 with Windows 7 64 bit. When I open a PDF file the file is very faint and the search function doesn't highlight the search term in the body of the PDF.

    Dear Peter,
I met the following problem, and please help me.
My English (not Chinese) operating system: Windows XP
    Version: 2002
Before using RoboHelp 7 to generate Webhelp, I perform the
    following steps:
    1. Control Panel->Regional Options
    2. On the "Languages" page make sure make sure you check the
box "Install files for East Asian languages".
    3. On the "Advanced" page select "Chinese" from the language
    dropdown list.
Then I perform the following steps:
    1. Use RoboHelp 7 to generate Webhelp (my Webhelp project
    contains localized Chinese files).
    2. In the "Search" tab, input a Chinese character(For example
    "连接") and perform a seach.
    Result: Serching...(or 正在搜索) or
    No topics found (or
    未找到主题)。
Expected result: I can get the result.

  • Vendor city, name1 missing in F4 menu for search term

    Dear All,
    Greetings.
I came across very strange issue. When we search any vendor in xk03/fk03/mk03 with some search term we get the list of vendor related to that search term.
In my case for some particular search term i am getting some 3-4 results, out of which one line item shows only vendor number and city and Name1 is blank, where as if I checked in vendor master, those entrie are existing. For rest of the search results it shows both vendor city and name1 correctly.
Did anybody of you come across this ever. Is this something related to list display issue.
    Please suggest if yes.
    Regards,
    sachin

I could not understand your question fully, but what i have understood is, that when you search using "Search term" you get few  results but without vendor name & etc. This is standard behavior.
When the results from the "search term" are fetched, right click on the screen and goto "Personalize" select among the available fields (which will already be selected) and press Ok. Your search result will now display all the fields including Name of the vendor.
I hope i have understood your question and this will help.

  • Highlighted search terms in links...

If I search the forums, then the search terms are highlighted (yellow/bold) in the resulting messages. This is nice except when the search terms appear in a URL. The URL then does not function as a link anymore like it normally does in messages here.
    For example:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/content.html
    because of the highlighting becomes:
    http://otn.<font%20style='background-color:/#ffff00'><b>oracle</b></font>.com/docs/products/<font style='background-color:#ffff00'><b>oracle9i</b></font>/content.html)manual

What you seem to require is the search to return a list of results and to know which topic the user requires to see. No search output works like that. It is possible to highligh the searched keyword once you have displayed the topic (even with CHM files) but as Rick says it will not take users directly to it. That is true of all output types. Most output types have a find facility (CTRL + F) that can be used to find a keyword it requires the user to manually enter a keyword.

  • RoboHelp 5.0 - Highlight Search Terms

    Hello,
I found the following page about highlighting search terms through Adobe’s forum:
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/various_rh_projects/highlighting/index.htm
However, I was unable to download the Javascript .zip file from http://www.calvinly.com/weblog/000111.html     (the actual link is  http://www.calvinly.com/robohelp/highlight_search_X5.zip ).   Is there another way to locate this file?
    Thank you,
    Connie

    Hello,
I found the following information at
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/various_rh_projects/highlighting/index.htm
    Reference the Javascript File
The script is referenced by adding the following to in the <head> section of the page.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="highlight.js"></script>
You can name the javascript file whatever you want as long as you amend the above accordingly. You will also need to enter path details if the topic is not in the root of the project. Click here if you need help with setting the relative path.
    Call the Javascript Function
The topic you are reading calls the script by inserting the following immediately before the closing </body> tag.
    <script type="text/javascript"><!--
    beginSearch ();
    //--></script>
This looks like a great feature.  Can someone help me to locate a copy of the highlight.js file?  (when I tried to download this file from http://www.grainge.org/pages/various_rh_projects/highlighting/index.htm I got a "file not found" message).
    Many thanks,
    Connie

  • Script to find/replace regular to Italic based on search terms in .txt

Sorry for such a newbie post.
I have been reading on JS scripts for find/replace.  I'm hoping develop a script or find one that is written that
    1. Looks into a .txt or any searchable file format, containing search terms
    2. Script will run on the entire Indesign document
    3. For any matching search terms script replace the style from regular to Italic, or from Bold to Bold/Italic.

Perfectly doable. Do you want to give it a go yourself?
A few first thoughts (things I'd probably solve myself while writing the script):
    1. JS can read any file, but getting just the plain text out of an MS Word document is kind of ambitious -- even for me. Keep it simple: if your search text is nothing but a list of keywords or short phrases, write them out in a plain text file, one search item per line.
    2. With that I presume you mean not on one single continuous story, but all over the file -- including loose text frames, master pages, and what-have-you-got. Thass' easy, you can set the target for a Find or Replace operation with pin-point accuracy.
    3. .. This is the interesting part, actually.
    (a) Do you want to change the text style? That will set an override "+" for the modified text. It would be safer (wiser, etc.) to change it using a character style. (For the script it doesn't matter which method you use, this is just for the Future You who is going to edit this file in 6 months.)
    (b) If you do use a character style: what should happen if there already is one applied? Not bold or italic, but underline, for instance. Applying a new char style will override this one.
    (c) The naive approach (which I probably would have taken first) is to first search for each of the search terms, go over the 'found' list and test for each single entry if it's in regular or bold, then take appropriate action.
A better approach -- without knowing anything else about this document -- could be to blindly use Replace to change ALL search terms in "Regular" to "Italic" and ALL search terms in "Bold" to "Bold Italic". It sure would be faster.
    (d) Just like in the interface, you can search for a word and 'change' only the formatting -- no need to change the text as well. And just like in the interface, you need to specify "whole words" and/or "case sensitive".

  • "Search Term" fields in SU01

    Hi experts,
Issue concerns my CRM 6.0 back end system. Here, I have a requirement to pull out a list of all users created without any value in field "Search Term 1"  under Adress tabI found an old thread from some years back which says this field is not part of any user tables as it fell under address management back then:
    SU01 Search Terms
Does anyone have knowledge on how I can run this query? SUIM, change history etc has no option to do a user search on this field. I checked out most of the user tables (USR*) and none of them also have this field "Search term 1" in them.
Also for some users on the same system this field is not visible alltogether (No header in SU01 --> Address which shows "Search terms" at all).
I am a little confused. Any help would be great....
    Edited by: Soumya-Thomas on Mar 3, 2011 9:56 AM

    Hi Julius,
Just noticed your answer to my thread, this is what I did:
Table ADRP - got a list of all users (on field PERNR) with field value Search term1 (SORT1) against eahc user.
Table USR21 - mapped the above PERNR value to user name here.
Thus got a list of all usernames + Search Term1 (SORT1).
Also, i didnt really use authority checks against the field Search Term.. may be it is used soemwhere, but i didnt get into that; since my mission was only to make sure that a set of users (as per our policy) were all created with specific reasons entered in "SU01 --> Search Term1" during user creation. For me it was a user master data updation task.

  • Information in the notification address "Search Term 1/2".

    Hi Experts
In my company we populate information in the notification address "Search Term 1/2". We can use this information to filter upon execution of reports IW28/9. However this information does not appear on any of the report output. Does anyone have an idea how this fields can be included on the report outputs?

    Hi,
    Modify your layout
select coloumns like Address no.,postal code, region, location, street etc in your layout. prior to that you must maintain this information in customer master.

  • There needs to be a way to require all search terms to be found

The forum search hasn't been particularly productive for me due to the inability to restrict results to only those which have all of the search terms I enter.
Please add a way to only include posts which contain all of the entered terms and not just add to the score for each term found.

    Hi Bill,
Use the '+' in front of the words that you want to have within the forums.
In the test forum if you search for "test plus" you get 26 results, if you search for "+test +plus" you get one.
    Best, Mark.

  • Special Characters in search terms and in data

I'm having a hard time making a decision about what types of special characters I should support in my Contains search.
I know that some of my data has dashes in it like '1034-AMFM' but if a user puts that in the search term it will be interpretted as a special character by OracleText correct?
What I have resorted to at the moment is stripping all special characters out of the users search terms but this severely limits the capabilities of Oracle Text and what I'm stuck with is a very basic search tool.
Is there a way to find a happy medium here?

You need to use a backslash, not a forward slash. The following demonstrates the behavior under different circumstances, such as specifying the hyphen as a printjoin or skipjoin or whitespace, which is the default, with and without escaping:

  • Font features of search term

Hi, I need to get font size, word color and underline status of a particular term in pdf file. Is this possible to get these features of the search term for all occurences of word in the file. Please help with some useful example/link. I need to use this feature in one of my product developed in c# with .net 3.5 framework.
Also, if this can be done with acrobat sdk then to use this how I can deploy my solution to be able to search these on any machine with/without acrobat reader etc. and what cost I'll need to pay to use this feature with my product.

Underline is not an attribute of PDF, but color and font information is available to plugins or library clients.
You would need to license the Adobe PDFLibrary from Datalogics (http://www.datalogics.com).

  • Map crashes when entering a search term

Map repeatedly crashed when I kept typing in "T" - before I could put the whole search term in "Target".
Any ideas. i thought it related to an address book entry - but not so.

I finally bit the bullet and decided enough was enough. This bug has basically rendered Maps useless on my iPad. I read the posts about the solution to set up the iPad as a new device rather than setting it from some other back up. I have tons of information in the various apps I have so losing my saved data is not at all reasonable. Here is what I did:
First, *I manually backed up my iPad* (in iTunes, right-click the iPad in the list on the left and select "Backup"). I realize most iPads back up on each sync, but I wanted to be sure I had the MOST up-to-date backup possible.
Second, *I did a software restore on the iPad* from the summary page of the iPad (in iTunes, next to software update checker). This took a while as it had to download the iPhone OS 3.2 installer. It finally finished.
Third, iTunes saw the device and started the walk through on setting up the device. The first question it asked was whether I wanted to set it up as new Device or restore a backup. *I chose New Device*. When it got done, it wanted to sync everything under the sun to the iPad. I went through and told it to sync nothing, thus effectively leaving it untouched.
Fourth, *I used the Maps App and verified that this did infact fix the searching bug.* I was able to use every key in the search field and perform all manner of searching without the Maps App crashing. Pleased was I.
Last, *I decided to then restore* (again by right-clicking the iPad in the devices list) from my backup. I thought, "What the ****, it's worth a try." At this point, restoring the backup in a best-case scenario would put all my vital data back on the iPad and still leave Maps App working. In a worst-case scenario, I would be where I had started--all my stuff on the iPad, but a crashing Maps App. After a long wait for it to restore my data and sync my media, I was back to a useable iPad. I nervously opened Maps App and TA-DA! I could still search! Every key worked, Maps did not crash, and all my data was right where it belonged.
This is a very strange bug in Maps. I still hold to my previous assertion that the auto-fill function of the search text field in the app is trying to pull from something, i.e. Contacts, Mail, etc, and in doing so is pulling something it doesn't like and then it crashes.
I realize this is not a new fix, but I thought the detailed walk through would help some people.

  • Thunderbird: Search term entered is auto-corrected, gives too many (wrong) results

Trying to find email messages from Lowe's Home Improvement (lowes.com), entered "lowes" (with or without quotes) in the search field, which returned 1200+ emails containing the word "low" (without the quotes). There doesn't seem to be a way to force search to use the precise spelling, and not incorrectly auto-correct my entry.
    Am I missing something?

Using the Quick Filter Toolbar was an improvement, but I still get results (92 of them) that aren't properly filtered. Specifically, when I enter '''lowes ''' (with a space following the '''s''') I get all instances of '''lowest'''. Putting a space at the end of the search term should limit the results to instances where the word is, or ends with, "lowes", as the space should indicate the end of that word in the search term.
I'd understand if the search tools still need some refinement, but if Thunderbird search is actually designed to ignore or modify specific search terms in this matter, then we have a problem...
