Search using finder sidebar search options - but restrict it to one profile
I'm relatively new to my mac & OSX. How do I use the Finder sidebar search options - but restrict it to searching on just that one profile. currently it scans both the Administrator profiles. Thanks
In the old days when we wanted to search for something on the Mac (or Windows) we'd invoke the Find function, type information into the text box(es) and click on the Start button. That was fine but we often searched for the same thing over and over. That's why Apple created the *Smart Folder* which is really nothing more than a pre-made search. It isn't really a folder in the traditional sense; it doesn't hold items, it holds the search criteria and then shows the items that match it. Since it is a folder, these pre-made searches can be put in the sidebar the same as any other folder.
The sidebar search option, as you refer to it, is a collection of searches that Apple created for us. If they don't do what you want, you can create your own by selecting *New Smart Folder* from the File menu and save it to the sidebar. I've deleted all the ones Apple provided and replaced them with my own.

Am running W7 so the XP Tools, Options, Advanced , Use Hardware acceleration when available, wasn't of much help here, however I did fix a problem on another computer running XP with that same fix. Apple id : [email protected]If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I have iPhone 4 with updated latest iOS And i am using FIND IPHONE application. But everytime when ever i login in it and serch for the device its shows the device but never give me the location"NO LOCATION AVAILABLE".It is already connected with WIFI and i tried all the stuffs that has been written in the manual. Plese give me the Proper suggetion about this issue..!!
If your router is not identified in a national database (don't recall who maintains it or where it is) then there is no location associated with it. Hence your device cannot be located. I suggest you try your test at some public wifi spot, like a bookstore or coffee shop. These places usually have a location associated with their wifi router.

JayavelYou must be using a different dictionary than the rest of us.
You can't dynamically create controls while a VI is running. (If I'm mistaken, then I'm sure someone else can jump in and say how it can be done.)
Do you have a finite number of controls you could possibly need? What you can do is create enough controls of the type you need ahead of time. At the beginning of your program, you hide all of those controls. As you need to create a control, you make it visible using property nodes. There are numerous properties you can set at run time suce as ranges, colors, captions, ... Of course you can't wire these controls to any other bits of code ahead of time since at that time, you haven't defined what you want each one to actually control. But if you use an event structure to detect when the values of the controls have changed, you can then programmatically pass the data off to other parts of your code using queues. The architecture can get complicate quite fast, so you may want to look through Ben's Action Engine Nugget and other related threads for how to create mechanisms for using these controls. Perhaps storing queue reference numbers or assign user events to each one. -

Jez lost my i5S which is TouchID and password protected. Tried using Find My Iphone app but device is offline. Can the person who picked it up find a way to unlock it?
thx for replyg Chris. Do u mean even if the "thief" tries to send it in to an Apple store to "restore as new", it cant be done and the device is rendered useless to the "thief"?

Use Finder to search just certain directories?
Is it possible to use Finder or Spotlight to do a search for files that are just in a certain directory or subtree, rather than searching the whole disk?
Or if not that, is it possible to sort search results by the directory where they are found?

That's an improvement, but can I limit the search to subdirectory mitch/dir1/dir2? That's what I would really like.
of course. as I told you open mitch/dir1/dir2 in finder and start the search from there. the search will default to searching the whole mac but in the search toolbar you can switch to searching just this directory. and if you want you can save the result as a smart search and put in the the sideebar for quick access if you do this particular search often.
Or can I sort the search results by where they are in subdirectories?

Spotlight hanging as soon as I search using finder
I noticed this problem the other day, spotlight just wasn't working properly. I'd see few matches in the spotlight results top right, going to "show all" and finder would just sit their trying showing no more updates. I just rebooted and it went away.
I've noticed it again today, and thought i'd ask about it on here. This time spotlight results top right of the screen look ok, however as soon as i move them into finder, or try doing a search within finder it just doesn't work properly.
Using Console i've noticed some errors appearing in system.log whenever this happens, such as

though this does in no case fix your problem, you might want to try to restart Finder to get it working again but not restart your computer... err... Mac.
Go to Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.app and start it, afterwards insert a "killall Finder" and hit Return.
Finder will be killed and restarts immediatly, in a hopefully saner state.
This does not help you in having your problem disappear, but it might just help you not doing the 'Windows way' all over again. :P

have only ever donw them using a text box! I generally use WA
Database Search, but at the minute that's down due to Vista
compatibility issues. So, does anyone know of a good tutorial I can

winabe23, you joined this month—probably because you were having trouble with CSS and HTML and you have certainly come to the right place.
I'm going to send you to several places I have found helpful in understanding how you can make drop-down menus in CSS without the need for JavaScript—though JS may be necessary for certain older browsers that do not understand pseudo classes and may be necessary for the blind or keyboard navigation.

The reason why I am posting all of these links in my answer is because you're using Spry. And Spry has been found wanting by Adobe and they are deprecating and abandoning it.
The Spry framework is an open source Ajax framework that Adobe developed. Ajax stands for Asynchronous JavaScript And XML. On August 29th 2012, Adobe handed over Spry to github. If you want to help github develop Spry, there is a site for that, but I'm thinking you're not a JavaScript developer.
I would recommend you pay a little more attention and time to Ajax, which is not deprecated and not discontinued. It allows you to do client-side triggers for server-side code. But that's if you want to do work in JavaScript, XML and a server-side language, like Cold Fusion, php or ASP.
But in the meantime, the tutorials above will get you into understanding how this whole menuing stuff is done in CSS and give you the understanding necessary to do simple stuff, like changing the color of a background for a drop-down.

Login to iCloud.com, from any computer, & try to locate your phone. Be aware, most thieves know to turn an iPhone off & remove the sim card. This defeats Find My Phone. Report the loss to the police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.

It works in the administrator account but not for all other limited accounts. I created a new limited account so it had no addons or changed options but search still did not work.
If I enter anything in the awesome bar/ search bar, it shows "Looking up nameofwebsite.com" instead of "Waiting for nameofwebsite.com".
I noticed that it searches using https:. If I search using google, I can take out the s part of https so that the http protocol is used, and when I press enter, it works, but the browser adds in the s and searches in https.
Everything else works fine except for the search capabilities.Weird. Last time I tried Wikipedia, it came with a connection error. Now it doesn't and Wikipedia search now works. I think that simply restarting the computer fixed this Wikipedia problem. Now this is the status of Firefox:

* Bing search = Works
* Amazon Search = Works
* Ebay Search = Works
* Wikipedia Search = Works
* Twitter Search = Certificate Error (Doesn't have the 'Add Exception' Option)

Is there like any settings under about:config that I could change or anything that I could look under the certificate that would help?
When I type 'asdf' (without quotes) in Yahoo search, it autocompletes to 'https://search.yahoo.com/search?p=asdf&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz35'. If I do the same with Twitter search, it autocompletes to 'https://twitter.com/search?q=asdf&partner=Firefox&source=desktop-search'.
