Search using Google engine is badly broken

Starting just an hour or so ago, I am unable to use the search window on the right to get results when Google is selected as the search engine.
I type in a search term and I am directed to a blank google search page. I have to type in the search term again, then I see a list of "hits". But when
I click on one of these hits I am not directed to the URL displayed.
I have quit out of Safari and relaunched. I have rebooted my Mac. Neither changes the problem...
This is a Google problem: I have the same symptoms when I use Safari on Windows XP.  When I switch the search engine to Bing, the problems go away, for both platforms
Has Google been hacked?  Is this a Google attack on Safari?
How can I enter GoGoDuck as a search engine choice?
[Safari 5.1.2]

The problem has gone away on MacOS. Presumably Google fixed this problem.
BUT it is still there on Windoze XP

  • Has search using google been replaced by search using websearch?

    When i highlight some text and right click, the option to search using google has been replaced by a option to search using "WebSearch". Is this a recent firefox change?

    You can check the home page setting.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
    Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' symbols.
    *Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
    Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
    *https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
    Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
    You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

  • On start up I want to search using Google UK automatically every time

    Dear Sir or Madam,
    Firefox uses Google as it's search engine. I have upgraded to Firefox 5 and the UK search button is missing. As I live in the UK, I want to use Google.co.uk automatically on start up every time what do I do?

    You can install this add-on which will set your default search to Google UK in the Firefox search bar. You should also see the option to search Google UK when you go to google.com

  • After I search using Google in Firefox, and hit the back arrow button to return to the main homepage I use, the browser won't take me there. Instead, I'm left at the initial results page from my search.

    Assume I start at Google as my homepage. I search for Federal Reserve. Google then brings up a number of selections for Federal Reserve. I can scroll through to more search results on page 2, 3, 4, etc. Now suppose I want to use the back arrow button to go back to Google as my homepage. I’ve found what I was looking for. When I try to get back to Google, the furthest back I can go is to page 1 of the search results. The browser won’t take me back to the original starting page which was Google. Also, it doesn’t matter what the starting page or initial page was. The browser will only take me back to the initial page after the original homepage. By the way, I did not install any new software or applications prior to this problem occurring. My guess is that it may have something to do with the function keys at the top of the keyboard. But I can’t figure out what the problem is with the function keys. It’s only a guess.

  • Can't click links when searching using Google - iPhone 5

    Strange problem but bear with me.
    iPhone 5. When I search using the google box in the upper right corner, and the search results come up, I am unable to click any of the result links that appear.  The browser appears like it is opening the link, but nothing happens and the circle just spins.
    Bookmarked links work fine as well as any web address keyed directly into the bar. The only issue is when I search and attempt to go to a web page by clicking the link after a search. Any idea what's wrong?   I've only noticed this while using cellular not on wifi but I can't confirm.

    Oh that you can leave on BlackBerry Browser.
    If you're in the browser go into Options | General Properties can you set the default browser to Internet Browser?
    Also try to reset the device by removing the battery for 15 seconds and replacing it.

  • From the context menu I want to always search using Google dot CA, not dot COM

    I have already edited "keyword.URL" in about:config This didn't work for the context menu when you highlight a term to search and use the "Search Google for...
    It works for typing the search term directly into the URL address bar, but not the search from the context menu.

    I already had Google selected there. This still uses dot com for the resulting search page that opens, I wanted to have it open with google dot ca.
    I just found this add-on from [http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name=google.ca MyCroft Project]
    Part way down this page, number 5, is [http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html Google.ca Search Bar] . Click the previous link to add this engine to the list of the FireFox search engines (on the drop down menu) did the trick, so I guess I solved my own problem. See attached menu capture. I hope this helps someone else, as it took me quite a while to find. It wasn't found in any of the standard Add-Ons you can find at the usual Mozilla multiple pages of add-ons

  • Firefox in a limited Windows account won't search using in-built search engines on the search bar + awesome bar.

    It works in the administrator account but not for all other limited accounts. I created a new limited account so it had no addons or changed options but search still did not work.
    If I enter anything in the awesome bar/ search bar, it shows "Looking up nameofwebsite.com" instead of "Waiting for nameofwebsite.com".
    I noticed that it searches using https:. If I search using google, I can take out the s part of https so that the http protocol is used, and when I press enter, it works, but the browser adds in the s and searches in https.
    Everything else works fine except for the search capabilities.

    Weird. Last time I tried Wikipedia, it came with a connection error. Now it doesn't and Wikipedia search now works. I think that simply restarting the computer fixed this Wikipedia problem. Now this is the status of Firefox:
    * Google Search = Works
    * Bing search = Works
    * Amazon Search = Works
    * Ebay Search = Works
    * Wikipedia Search = Works
    * Twitter Search = Certificate Error (Doesn't have the 'Add Exception' Option)
    * Yahoo search = Certificate Error (Has the 'Add Exception' Option)
    I previously added Google as an exception, but I discovered that Bing, Amazon, Ebay and Wikipedia now work too. I would like to find out if I can use these services securely because I'm worried that their encryption might be broken, etc.
    I would also like to find out how to fix Yahoo and Twitter Search.
    Is there like any settings under about:config that I could change or anything that I could look under the certificate that would help?
    When I type 'asdf' (without quotes) in Yahoo search, it autocompletes to 'https://search.yahoo.com/search?p=asdf&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz35'. If I do the same with Twitter search, it autocompletes to 'https://twitter.com/search?q=asdf&partner=Firefox&source=desktop-search'.
    I uploaded screenshots of the error pages:

  • Why does using Google in the search bar (and only Google) not let me open search results in the same tab?

    Hello,
    When I use Google in the search bar, I have to open the search results in a new tab. If I simply click on them to open in the current tab, I'm inevitably redirected right back to the main Google site. This has only started happening in the past month or two -- I'm considering switching to Chrome after 5 years with Firefox because of this. Please help! It's incredibly frustrating to consistently have to remind myself to open all search results in a new tab. It's quite a waste of time over the course of a day.
    Here are the basic steps:
    1) I do a search using Google in the search bar.
    2) As is supposed to happen, the search returns results in the current tab.
    3) When I click on a result link, I'm immediately sent back to www.google.com.
    4) If I hit back to try to return to the search results, I'm taken to the page that was loaded BEFORE I even did the search.
    5) If, and only if, I instead right-click or Mouse3 click on the search results and open them in a new tab, I can successfully go to the search result pages.
    --Thank you

  • Since the last update, my browser defaults to Yahoo even though I am searching through Google. I HATE!!! this!!!!! How can I get this to stop??

    Since the last big firefox update, nearly every time I click on a link or search result, a Yahoo page saying there was a problem pops up. This has never happened before, and the Yahoo page comes up even when I search using Google. This is incredibly annoying, both because I do not want to use Yahoo and also because there is an error message about 75% of the time, which is highly unusual. Is there a setting I can change to make this stop?

    When you select some text and press right click there is a option in the contextual menu which allows you to perform a search using Google in another tab. For some reason the displayed page is not the same as you search the same in Google homepage, there are some panel who are missing; images, videos, blogs, forum, tec. Is there a way to put them back the missing Google panels?

    Read about firewall settings, but Bullguard firewall was not covered

    In your "More system details" it says your address bar search provider is Babylon, not Google. Perhaps that's the problem? Or are you using a shortcut to force the address bar search to Google?
    This add-on will reset your address bar search to Google: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
    That might not stick if you have an add-on which reverts the setting. You can disable nonessential and unrecognized extensions here:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
    Also, you might need to edit or delete your user.js file to prevent your settings from being overridden at the next startup. This article has info on that: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?
