Search within iPhoto by any word or combination of words

Hello!
I want to notice, and may be in the future (I hope soon), Apple will add a very useful improvements in the search within iPhoto.
When I search anything in iPhoto I need to enter the search condition the same as it was entered in the photo description or tagged a face. For example when I want to find all photos with someone's name "John Doe" I need to enter in search field John… and so on with big "J", but when I want to search just with "john" (with small "j" symbol) or by last name "doe" - the search returns nothing! Or when I want to search any combinations of words that I entered in description of the photo with any symbols register ("A" or "a") that doesn't work too! The same with Face tags when I want to tag someone I need to enter the name right the same way it entered in the address book, not any symbols that persist in the contact name.
Didn't think anybody it is useful feature must be improved?
Thank you all!

Hello Larry.
Of course I'm using this feature too. Generally I talk about search conditions/expressions. By the way in smart albums the same problem with search expressions. When I want create a smart album with my friend "Smith" for example and in the Smart album search criterias enter "smith" with small "s" then my friend doesn't appear in this album while I don't change the name as it witten in address book "Smith" with big "S".
You see?

  • OHW Search always uses match any words option

I've generated an ohw project which includes a search index. It matches search topics using the "match any words" option no matter which option I choose. The other options ("match all words" and "boolean expression") work fine when I use RoboHelp to view the help project. Are these supported options for ohw?

Hi, David. We're aware of the problem with the OHW search--it should be fixed in the next OHW release, which will hopefully be available on OTN within a few weeks.

  • Feedback: search within attachments needed in mail

    Hello,
I really need to be able to search within attachments within mail.
Specifically I need to be able to search within attached PDF and Word documents, through my entire email store.
it is important that it searches within all emails, regardless of whether or not the attachment has been saved to disk. I am aware that attachments saved to disk are searched but this is no substitute at all for being able to search through my 30,000 or so emails. Also I need to see the results within the email program, not within Spotlight.
Searching within attachments seems such an obviously needed feature, its a puzzle as to why it is not there.
    Thanks
    Andrew

The puzzle for me is that in fact, in Leopard 10.5.2 and Mail 3.2, Mail.app sometimes searches into attachments, sometimes not.
More specifically: I produced a message with a Word attachment with a infrequent word in it. I sent it to various account I have in Mail, and then searched for the word. Some of the messages are found others not. I cannot find a pattern. Sucessive forwards of the same message to the same account produce disfferent results (some of the messages show up in search others not).
This seems to be message related: if a message shows it will always show, and vice-versa.

when i type any word in address bar, it is search by "speedbit", How i can to change it into google searching ?

When you ''reset'' keyword.url, you blank the entry. Firefox doesn't know what to do with the keyword you've typed in, so it adds www. to the front, and tacks .com to the end and takes you www.test.com.
You need a new search engine entry. '''Try making keyword.url = http://www.google.com/#q='''
Every once in a while a rogue search engine wrecks my browser, and I end up scrambling for this very answer. I hope the devs will create an easier fix for future versions.

How do I restore photos from Time Machine?  All of my photos have been imported within iPhoto and therefore are exported to Time Machine via an iPhoto file.  I can't figure out how to break individual photo files out of the iPhoto file.  Any ideas?

You might post this query on the iPhoto forum and perhaps someone there can provide an answer.
I tried this on my MBP and it seems that you have to restore the entire iPhoto Library.  What I did was put the current library in a separate folder on the desktop and then I restored the library from a prior date.  If you were to do that, you then could extract the desired photos and then delete the restored library.  Then place the current library back to the original location and import the desired photos.
Not tidy but it seems it will work.
    Ciao.

  • Help- trouble searching any words in PDFs!

    hi all,
i have been having  trouble searching any words in PDFs:
when i downloaded a PDF in my windows XP, it opened and searched fine at first with Adobe Reader. Then i zipped to to my iMac OS X, and when opening it in Preview, it would not find any text that i searched for. I re-downloaded it straight from the internet to my mac, several times, and each time still Preview could not search it.
Then i tried downloading and installing the entire Adobe Reader to my mac, so i could open it with that. But, then it still would not search/find anything in the PDF.
Then, I downloaded yet another PDF reader called Skim, installed and tried that on my MAC. Still, no luck. I went back to the original site where i got this PDF, and found the most updated version, deleted the former and redownloaded the latest to both my windows and my mac.  Finally this time it worked! So happy! Unfortunately, just today, a day or two later, i opened a different PDF on my mac, and it opened automatically using Adobe reader, (rather than the usual default Preview app, as i guess i might have set my prefs to change adobe reader to be the default while i was tinkering around trying to troubleshoot it all), and again i could not get the search to work at all! Then, i changed my mac prefs to have the default PDF opener be Preview. But still,Preview would not find any text in this pdf EITHER!
Can anyone please help? I have been going crazy trying to chase after the solution to this perplexing problem! thanks!
BTW,  i use Firefox (always the latest version) as my browser. And the PDFs i am discussing are downloaded already and opened from my OS (not the internet.)

  • I try to print a thumbnail from within iPhoto and it keeps telling me I don't have any themes installed. When I look in iPhoto folder the themes folder is there. Themes are in app. Support also. I rebuilt iPhoto database and rebooted but no cure. DICKSTER

Try to print from within iPhoto a thumbnail & I get message that there are no themes installed. They are in iPhoto folder and a folder of themes is in the library/ application support. I rebuilt iPhoto data base using iPhoto rebuild. No change, also rebooted hd.
Can someone straighten me out here?

    Restoring iPhoto 9 (11) Themes
First look in your HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there move it to the Trash. Also look in your Home/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder.  If there is one move it to the Trash.  Reinstall iPhoto as described below:
1 - delete the current application.
2 -files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
3 - mount the disk that iPhoto 11 came on, either an iLife 11 disc or the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
If iPhoto 11 came with the computer then double click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" file and do a custom install.
Apply all of the latest iPhoto 9 (11) updates followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime version.

  • Is there any way to search within a specific Adobe Forum?

Seems to be there should be a way for me to search within just the RoboHelp forum, but as yet, I've not discovered how.  Having to go through thousands of topics certainly can be very discouraging.
Thanks for all of your wonderful help.

    Hi,
After you enter your search string, the results page displays. Under the search box is an options button. When you click it, you can then select to find results in just the forum you are interested in. I'm trying to show an image of this:

  • Parameter to search within a field

    Post Author: hd1
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Hello,
I have a report that is connected to SQL database.  I was wondering if there was a way to create a parameter to search within a specific field in my database table.  The scenario is we have Paralegals and Attorneys who have created a huge Word document that has a table in it.  They have 8 fields in this table and one field in particular is their summary field.  This field can go up to over 1000 characters.  So, we decided to create a SQL database and have them import their data from a Data Access Page using Microsoft Access, then we run a Crystal Report for them. So far it looks good and it's working great.  We can import there current data without any problems.  The problem that I have run into is the way they search for specific entries.  I was wondering if I could create a parameter in the report to search within the summary field.  Again these summary fields can be from one sentance to multiple paragraphs.  I would like to be able to get this going for them, it will make things a lot easier on them. An example would be.  We have multiple entries in this field.
This is a test entry done 11/27/07
This is a test entry done 12/3/07
This is a test import using DTS done 12/3/07.
Now it would be nice if the users could put in the word 'DTS' in the parameter and it would only show entries containing DTS.  Do you think this is possible.
I ran accross a posting by Skodidine and his was something like this.
    {table.field} LIKE & "*"
But that was relating to a wild card search.  I tried just using {table.field} LIKE but I didn't get any results.  This does sound possible though.

So far this seems to give me some results.
    IF {?Summary} = "<none>" THEN TRUE ELSE ({?Summary}) IN LowerCase ({LOEB_Docs.Summary})
I don't know though, If someone has a more reliable and better one could you let me know?   I did have to add some words in my parameter, by the looks of it, I will have to do that from now on.  So if someone has something better to where I do not have to enter keywords for them, I would appreciate it.  This database is going to continue to grow, it's a reference for them so the keywords could be endless.

  • Is there a way to do batch watermark within iPhoto?

I often upload my photos to pBase using the excellent iPhoto2pBase plugin. But due to the growing issue of photo thefts on the web, I would like to watermark them first. After doing a search on this site, I found recomendations for iWatermark. It's a pretty cool little program but unfortunately it is a standalone and in order to use its batch processing feature, I have to export my photos out of iPhoto, do the watermarking and then re-import them.
I can set set iWatermark as the external editor for iPhoto but that would only allow one photo at a time to be watermarked. Does anyone know of a way to "batch watermark" within iPhoto?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bo

    Bo:
What do you want to use the watermarked images for? If it's to upload to a site or use in another application, then iWatermark can mark the files in the folder you selected, resize them if needed and then save to a folder on the desktop for use. If that workflow will work for you then iWatermark will do the job.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Grep expression for specific search within Brackets

    Hello,
I did a search and found many topics for searching within brackets, but wasn't able to find anything to search for specific characters/quotation within brackets.
Note: The forum image uploader wasn't working for me so I embedded it to the topic. Hopefully it shows up for you. (http://cl.ly/1H42302P2x3c1Q3P2a42)
For the Brackets and words within, i use:     (\[).+?(\])
and have it them to a different font.
For my project i need the quotations to be a different color and nothing else.
These are the ones i'm trying to add to an expression:      '|"|;|,
Any help is very much appreciated. I've been trying many arrangements with no luck. Thanks!

It's not possible to search for your punctuation inside parentheses only. (FYI, that needs a positive lookbehind of variable length, and that's not possible.)
But the hint to get it done is right there:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
For the Brackets and words within, i use:     (\[).+?(\])
and have it them to a different font.
    Simply search for your set
    only in that particular font.

  • [Desktop][Your Music] Search within Your Music only, much faster

If I want to jump to a song in my saved music (Your Music) I don't want to have to wade through all the other artists on spotify, playlists, profiles, etc. that you get when you do a full search. Furthermore I don't want to wait the minimum half-second round trip for the search results to appear. It makes the whole operation feel sluggish and puts me off using search. Try typing a word into iTunes search. The moment you lift your finger off the key it's already found the matching song. As far as I can tell that's simply not possible in Spotify. I'm not sure what the best design is. I think there should be a way to do either a global search, or a search within your music. The latter should be possible to run entirely on your computer/device to make it nice and zippy.

Also, Winamp had an awesome shortcut for this: the J key. It brought up a window where you could literally type a letter or two from any part of the title, artist or album that you want. Hit enter and it starts playing. Or hit alt-q and it's queued. See it in the search results but it's not selected? Press the up and down arrows to select. Total time required - about three seconds. That's the kind of search ergonomics I would like to see in Spotify.

  • IPhoto '08, Microsoft Word 2004 and an error: QuickTime and TIFF

    Hi,
When I drag and drop photos from iPhoto into Word, I get the following error:
QuickTime and a TIFF (decompressor) are required to see the picture.
The image is placemarked with a black border with the error message in the center. iPhoto indicates that the picture is JPEG. I have also discovered that dragging the picture to the desktop and then into Word works fine.
I checked the console log and found the following:

The system is an iMac7,1 (20" alu)
Any help would be appreciated. This seems to be a new problem, as I was able to drag+drop from iPhoto '08 into Word after upgrading to '08. I do not recall when the problem began.
    Thanks!

    Hi
This sounds like a problem that's been discussed many times. If you use the Search button (select more options) and change the 'Restrict by Date Range' to something like 'Last Year' you should find something? You might want to read these:

I think Office 2008 is supposed to have made things better?

  • Email from within iPhoto '08 (7.1.1) quit working

I am running Leopard (10.5.1) and iPhoto '08 (7.1.1) on a 2.4ghz 17" MBP. Whenever I try to email a photo from within iPhoto it pops up a window to let me choose size & options, I hit the Compose button, it will then popup a window saying that it is Preparing photos for email... then that window just goes away and it never creates the new email. I see this same behavior regardless of whether or not Mail is already open and regardless of what photo I am trying to email. This was working fine in the past... believe that it quit working after the upgrade to 10.5.1 (but not absolutely positive of that)... Any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated as I use this feature quite often.
    Cheers!
    Kirk

    Kirk:
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Next, if needed, download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I enable Firefox 4 to do a search on more than one word (e.g. "yahoo mail") without receiving the error message "the URL is not valid and cannot be loaded"?

After loading Firefox 4.0, I changed the address bar search engine to Google Search by Name, so I'd be taken straight to the most relevant webpage when I type in a word.
It works fine when I type in one word, but if I use a search with more than one word (e.g. "yahoo mail" or "google maps") I get an alert saying "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded". Is there any way I can fix the address bar to accept multiple word searches?
I've tried disabling all my add-ons, but it didn't make any difference.

Hi, this should sort out your problem:
    1. Type in "about:config" into the address bar, this will open the settings menu. Click on "I'll be careful, I promise!"
    2. Search for "keyword.URL" in the filter bar.
    3. Enter "http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&q=" into the value field.
I'm no expert, but I had the same problem which got on my nerves after being so used to being able to type anything in, and following these steps fixed it.
