Searchable on Google?

Hi-
I recently created a website using iWeb and am using a personal domain name through godaddy.com. I am fairly new to this process and don't understand exactly how the web publishing process works, but I was wondering if there is any way to make the text on my website searchable in google. For example, if someone searches for the name of my website, or for a block of text in my blog, will google find this? If not, can I make it possible to do so? It seems like when you publish, your text is an image that is not picked up by search engines. . . is this correct? Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

Your blog text should be text — iWeb provides a Search bar for the Blog template which is functional when publishing to MobileMe. And publishing to +Go Daddy+, your text should still be there as text. You can confirm that your pages contain searchable text by viewing them in Safari and clicking on the View menu then choosing +View Source+.
The problem is that, if you don't generate a Sitemap, search engines may never go beyond your Home page to your sub-pages — because of the way iWeb's navigation bar is constructed. See the posts & links in this old thread:
_How to make my site top in the search engines for a high ranking?_
Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums: Lost all blog entries or all comments or unable to publish, etc. If you switch to a dedicated blogging platform you're likely to have a better experience. For a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:
_To blog or not to blog_
And a simpler alternative to WordPress is Posterous.
By the way, rather than setting up a conventional hyperlink to an external blog, there is a way to link to it directly from iWeb's navigation bar.

  • Iweb site working great but blog not showing in Google Search

Not sure how to get my iweb blog to show up in Google searches.  I am using iweb seo tool, and all my other pages on the site are searchable on Google, but the blog entries are not. It's been a month or more.  Is this something that's happening on the blog pages only because I"m using my ftp and not publishing through mobileme?  Not necessary that I have comments, but I would like the blog entries to be searchable.  Thanks!

iWeb SEO Tool allows you to add the title tag and meta descritption for the Google entry...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Tags.html
To get the spiders to this info you need to give them a sitemap with all the URLs to crawl. Blog HTML files are buried in a sub folder so you need to provide the path.

  • Will google list a splash page made within another website in iWeb?

I've tried submitting a website to google multiple times but they aren't picking it up/listing it. I'm wondering if that is because it is set up as a splash page within another website. I'm trying to get nateweldon.com listed, but it is built within the seaserpentrecords.com website I made in iWeb. It is a hidden page I've set up within seaserpentrecords.com to save money on hosting. Any tips to make nateweldon.com searchable in google?
Thanks so much for any help.
    Ellen

Where do you publish your website - MobileMe or another server?
Are you using masking to forward the domain name - nateweldon.com ?
Splash pages and masking are two of the things to be avoided with SEO.
If you have only one root folder on your server you need to publish the nateweldon site as a sub site with its own folder so that its URL is...
    http://www.seaserpentrecords.com/nateweldon/
Create and upload a sitemap.xml for the above URL and upload it to the nateweldon folder....

  • Before you post...

    Help us to help you!
You are most likely here with a problem that needs solving. Of course you can just post your issue and wait for someone to come along and supply an answer. But please take a moment and read these "rules of the road". They have been designed to help you get the right answer fast.
Please observe these simple suggestions before you post:
    Search before you post
The time of those who voluntarily support the forums is limited. Help them by seeing if the question has been asked and answered before.
As you type the search term, you will see a list of topics appear that may contain the link to just what you are looking for. Otherwise click the links to show all the results or limit the list to just threads in the forum category you are searching in.
Please note that during your search, you may find similar questions. Please resist the urge to simply append your question onto an older post you found while searching. Odds are that if a question has been asked more than a month ago and it hasn't been answered by the time you found it, there is no answer. Please ask your question in a totally new thread of its own.
It also means you get a quicker answer.
There is a video on searching at http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1021
Choose ONE category, post a SINGLE time, then exercise patience.
We realize that you are anxious and are hoping for a fast answer. And we really do our best to provide answers as quickly and accurately as we can.
What happens if you post multiple times in different categories is that one person may respond to one post while someone else responds to the other, both giving different and sometimes conflicting answers. The whole thing gets messy and you are no nearer to getting a good answer. It wastes everyone's time and doesn't help you.
The next person that comes along with the same problem finds a solution that may not be the best one. They will not search further and will go away disappointed. Another time that person could be you!
Don’t sweat whether you have posted in the correct category for your question. Do the best you can. If it’s in the wrong category, we can move the post to the appropriate forum if it fits better there.
If you don't get a reply within a reasonable time, it may just be that nobody has an answer. If you think it is because your post is in the wrong category, add another post to the thread asking the administrators to move it.
The categories are described in this post.
    Include the Edition and Version.
    Edition
RoboHelp HTML or RoboHelp for Word
    Version
    RoboHelp 7, 8, 9 or 10.
Please tell us up front what you are using. Too often the answer is delayed by us having to ask for that information because providing the correct solution depends on it.
Make sure your wording is clear.
    Examples of bad wording:
"I clicked Finish in the layout wizard but no help was generated."
Something like the above would cause the following questions to be raised:
Did it start and then hang?
    Was there an error message?
Was there any information in the Output pod?
Posting a subject line of NEED HELP!!! or RoboHelp Sucks Cheese!!!
Subject lines such as these don't help us easily determine if we are able to help you. Please be respectful of everyone's time and use a meaningful subject line.
    Avoid comparative terms.
State 5,000 topics rather than "my project is large".
Too often we see people refer to their "large" project when talking about a project with just a couple of hundred topics.
Believe us, that is not large.
Include screenshots where this helps. Use the camera icon rather than attaching the image.
    For example:
If you add an image using the camera icon, it appears in your post immediately.
If you use the Attach Files link below the post area, the attachments are queued and must be approved by a forum admin in order to see them.
Guess which way gets you a quicker answer?
    Don’t insert your E-Mail address.
Remember that the forums are searchable using Google, YAHOO or other search engines.
This means you open yourself up for spammers to harvest your address.
You really don’t need more unwanted E-Mail messages from the dying millionaire in the Nigerian hospital do you?
It is our sincere hope that these tips will help you get the most out of your forum experience!

  • Text block as image -- should I care?

It was pointed out to me that most of the text on my site is an image, rather than lines of text. All of the text on my site was typed onto the site into text blocks, and none of it was cut and pasted. I did use Garamond for the font.
A few threads have covered this topic, which I have read.
Two of those blocks of text-as-image are on my home page and the text in those blocks appears in Google (on the listing of the site on the first "search result" -- or whatever it is called -- page).
Doesn't this mean that the text in those "text-as-image blocks" (sorry for all the quote marks, but I don't know the real names of these things) are indeed searchable by google, even if they are images rather than lines of text?
I have tried cutting and pasting the text into TextEdit and then repasting the text back but that didn't solve the problem.
    So:
    1. Does any of this really matter to the search engines and the ability of people to find text on my pages? Or for some weird reason does the home page act differently than the other pages?
    2. Does anyone have a consistent solution to this problem?
    3. Is this something that Apple may think significant enough to have already fixed for the next version -- which I hope is out in a couple of months?
But mainly, should I even care?
    Thanks!
    Mark

    1. Does any of this really matter to the search
engines and the ability of people to find text on my
pages? Or for some weird reason does the home page
act differently than the other pages?
No and no. It sounds like your page is already coming up in the search results...graphic or text? It doesn't matter.
    2. Does anyone have a consistent solution to this
    problem?
Not sure that it is a problem that needs fixing.
    3. Is this something that Apple may think
significant enough to have already fixed for the next
version -- which I hope is out in a couple of
    months?
Again, I doubt that Apple sees it as a problem. iWeb converts text into an image for a reason.... your happiness. Most people would probably want to have a webpage that looks the way it is supposed to look (the way they want it to look). Most people probably don't care about text converted to image as long as it looks the way they expect it to look. This is why iWeb does the text to graphic conversion....to ensure uniform and consistent rendering of the text on the page. I think many, many more people would be upset if iWeb allowed them to put different fonts and text effects on a page and then left it up to a browser to determine how those fonts and effects were to be rendered.
But mainly, should I even care?
I think in the grand scheme of things, you shouldn't care. But that's just my humble opinion.

  • CSS line spacing + XML

I am using a Spry accordion in DW CS3 to read an XML file.
The XML file contains breaks (not coded), but within the Accordion
content, all the paragraphs are run together.

You're coming to this forum through Adobe's webforum; it's
    also gatewayed
    to a newsgroup
    (news://forums.macromedia.com/macromedia.dreamweaver). As
a result of that, the forum is searchable by Google Groups:

  • How to see my old postings ?

    Hi there,
I remembered I asked some questions here & it was answered before but it was long time ago.
So, instead of asking again, I thought I just do a search.
I click on my make & goto the "Your Stuff" tab. But what i see are only those 3 months ago.
Before, there is "see more" option at the bottom but now it is gone.
    Any ideas ?

I find the internal search features on the forums are not very useful. Fortunately, the forums are searchable via Google. Use Google, enter your Forum name and as much of the post as you remember and see what you get.

  • How do I close off discusions in forums

I am new to forums so please bare with me.
I have asked a question and gratefully received a two replies from "Nancy," another member.
I now want to close off all my discussions so that they do not appear in the "content" window pages so that the database is not unecesarily cluttered with spent discusions and allowing other members easier navigation to their replies.
    Can anyone advise please?
    Regards
    Mark

The best you can do is mark your question as "answered" on the post that correctly answered it. That effectively tells others no further replies are necessary.
Keeping the discussions makes them searchable via Google and instead of posting the same question over, a user could look at your discussion and try the solutions there.
Don't worry too much about Adobe's disk space, there is plenty and they know what to prune and when to do it.

  • Speech bubbles in Muse

    Hi,
I'm designing my site in Muse.
A main feature will be interviews.
I'll be designing a jpeg background, with name of interviewee seperately designed at the top - do I need to merge these as 1 in PS or can I layer in Muse?
But my main question, is I want the interview in speech bubbles centered down screen, with triangle tip pointing left or right of screen depending on whom is speaking. Ideally, i'd like the text to be searchable on google.
Any ideas for how to do this?
I am aware of a speach bubble code creator on the web is that addable to Muse?
Obviously the bubbles would need to be adjustable for the amount of speech, but as interviews are past won't need changing once created.
Might add, photos/sound clips/links at some point but getting the background up with interview in speech bubbles is the main task.
    Thanks so.

  • Personal domain.... easy question for someone who has done it.. easy points

If i forward my www.vegasablaze.com to mobile me from go daddy and set up the personal domain in my mobile me account will my address bar read http://www.vegasablaze.com or will it read my mobile me site address? ie http://web.me.com/example/Site/Welcome.html? See once i posted my site to godaddy i lost my blog ability. But I dont want people to se my mobile me address. So I would like to forward to personal domain. but am afraid if it goes to my mobile me it would look unprofessional..

Personal Domain replaces the web.me.com/username part of the URL with the domain name, with the subsequent folder and filenames on the end, so that to take your example of
    http://web.me.com/example/Site/Welcome.html
    people entering http://domainname.com
would be taken to the welcome page and the URL showing will be
    http://domainname.com/Site/Welcome.html
However note that when you do this the original web.me.com URL still works and is searchable by Google. Though casual visitors to your domain won't see the real URL, it's not difficult to find it.

  • What is the best way to limit the audio from going over the -11 volume?

What is command or the tools in the menu list that gives you the option to limit the volume in the audio tracks so they don't go past the -11?
In Sound Track Pro you can "normalize" the volume but this also affects the volume levels of the softer passages too. We only need to stop the audio from going past the -11 decibel.
    Thank you,

Apply the Compressor/Limiter filter. Once you have it set up for one audio clip, you can use the Paste Attributes command to apply it to others.

  • I have a shared photo stream that I converted to a public website. If enough people view it, will it show up in a search?

I have a shared photo stream that I converted to a public website. If enough people view it, will it show up in a search? It is for my business. I would like to provide pricing information but I do not want it to be found if a consumer searches for it. Are photo streams searchable on google, etc?

How much space depends on the size of the photos and how many there are.
Settings > general > usage > photos & camera. The shared albums will be included along with other photos.

  • Cannot erase repeated notice on Network preference

On my iBook G4, when I attempt to open the Network preference, I get a notice that "Your network settings have been changed by another application". When I click on "OK" the notice reappears, and there is no way I can get rid of it in order to change my settings on the preference pane. I have tried quitting all applications, including those shown on Activity Monitor, to no avail.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of the notice would be gratefully received.

    OK...
How was the issue resolved, and why does it have a green star?
If somehow the question was answered by an outside party, it
would be nice to know the process so other readers could solve
a like-issue, should they experience it & read these threads later.
Back to the question, an old one of almost two-years duration in
these forum pages; with resolutions presented since last year...
You can choose in the Security preference panel in Sys Pref, in
a checkbox, to "require password to unlock each secure sys pref."
And if you do that, generally the issue appears to be resolved.
In some cases, the OS X issue also can be resolved at some point
in time where the system is replaced via an "archive & install/update"
so you get a new system folder and yet keep your old user account
and settings; and in the process of the update part of all this, the
latest and most refined update parts are used, Combo updates and
last Security Updates, latest Shockwave, Flash, Quicktime, and the
list goes on. Few small step updates, and the one or two older
security updates which were suspected of causing this issue will be
avoided; in a rebuild of the system folder (only) in this way...
Was your iBook G4 running Tiger and then was upgraded to Leopard?
The issue could have been acquired in Tiger or in Leopard. Similar
issue, and in some cases, slightly different cures were suggested:
' your network settings have been changed by another application '
    http://www.applelinks.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/166/
Other users in these Apple Discussion threads have poised at least
three probable answers to the issue you have recently experienced
and their answers are in these boards. Searchable by google, too.
Sorry if there is any confusion about the way my reply has been worded.
