Searchable text in widgets?

Hi,
The rules for state textbook adoptions are pretty strict. All of the text in an e-book has to be searchable and it looks like any text that appears in a widget is not searchable.
Do any of you have suggestions? I did put this in as an Enhancement Request but I don't know how quickly it might be addressed.
Thanks for any ideas!
Angela

Frankly it sounds like you're looking for a solution where you should be looking for another distribution method.
It seems like you're either trying to apply a printed book concept or unkowningly needing an app instead of an ebook .

  • Searchable Text in SWF file

    I am creating an interactive document in InDesign and exporting it as a SWF file.  I would like the text in the SWF file to be searchable text.  Do I need to set up the document a certain way to achieve this?  Can I create a search button within InDesign that will allow this to happen?  Is there an add-on you can use to have the search option available within the flash player?  I would greatly appreciate any knowledge and help regarding this issue.  Thanks!

    No, there´s no such feature in InDesign. Actually the text InDesign exports, if use SWF as a format, is quite a mess. Words are splitted to separate characters and it´s not even closely in searchable form.
    3rd party finalizing tool for SWF files exported from InDesign - eDocker - can however create a simple keyword search for you document. Search is still in beta feature but it works if you just need to have a textfield where end-user can write a word or phrase to search for. After clicking search button, he/she will receive a list of search results, which are also links pointing to those pages where actual results are.
    Check for instance this link:
    http://www.nypa.gov/AR09/annualReport09.html
    Try word empire and you will get few results to pages where that word can be found.....
    You will find eDocker here>>

  • When will Apple have a searchable text reader and upload file capability?

    When will Apple have a searchable text reader and upload file capability? I have a large text file I need to upload to my iPhone, search, and dial.
    Anything planned?

    I had a Palm the I used for work and travel it had a very nice application called DOCUMENTS TO GO. It allowed you to upload, view, and edit .doc, .xls, and .ppt files. this was very handy when traveling. Also, I could sync my palm with my iMac and work PC using bluetooth, took care of the file transfers as well. I would like to have the same capability on my iPhone. I bought it to replace all of my old stuff i need it to the same as my old stuff. I hope that Apple reads this and gets on the ball. Until then I still have to carry my Palm or thumb drive on trips.

  • Printing to any PDF printer results in an image of the page instead of searchable text from all websites

    When I print to any number of different pdf printer software I've tried, it always yields an image of the webpage but never searchable text in the pdf which is the result of printing to pdf from IE or Chrome.

    I suspected as much.  I was hopeful it was something like a setting that needed to be changed or a reg hack that needed a bit changed from 0 to 1 to make the printing work as expected.  I only installed the local printer to see if the RDP session
    tunnel was in fact causing the print size to balloon so I will continue to instruct users to use that instead of the local redirected printer.  I am disappointed but not surprised.
    Edit:
    Additionally I have tested the functionality of setting the GPO settings for Easy Print to use the redirected printer's drivers instead of the ones used by easy print, by setting “Computer
    Configuration -> Administrative templates -Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host -> Printer Redirection”.
    to “Disabled” but
    with no luck.  In fact the printer received the proper Adobe PDF driver, but the job went out into print spool hell and was lost to the ether.  I have concluded that this approach will not bear any fruit.

  • Where is Hint Box for Validation Text Field widget?

    I want to enter a hint for my form.
    I am following the instructions on the Adobe Using Dreamweaver CS4 page for Insert and edit the Validation Text Field widget page:
    <http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WSEB5440BC-453A-4101-928C-302199E7E02F. html#WS8E6EA74E-87AC-4a81-A5CC-2DB6FB451DE0a>
    It says:
    Create a hint for a text field
    Because there are so many different kinds of formats for text fields, it is helpful to give your users a hint as to what format they need to enter. For example, a text field set with the Phone Number validation type will only accept phone numbers in the form (000) 000-0000. You can enter these sample numbers as a hint so that the text field displays the correct format when the user loads the page in a browser.
       1. Select a Validation Text Field widget in the Document window.
       2. In the Property inspector (Window > Properties), enter a hint in the Hint text box.
    However, the is no hint box in my Propeties area.
    How do I get this hint box to show up?
    Dreamweaver CS4, Windows Vista

    Hi David,
    My Property inspector looks different than what you have below.
    I do not have a Hint box and I do not have the Customize this widget.
    I did have a Hint box and the Customize this widget for CS3, howver not for CS4

  • Outlined Text on Widgets

    Hi
    So recently all the text on widgets became outlined. Its really hard to read. Help anyone?? What could help?

    Hi terribeth, welcome to Apple Discussions!
    The problem you are having is due to the font "Helvetica Neue" - you may have a copy or duplicate installed in your ~/Library/Fonts (or it could be missing from your system's Libary/Fonts). Disabling "Helvetica Neue" in Font Book should fix the problem in your widgets.

  • QooQee Text Magic Widget Not Working Properly

    Hi,
    I recently installed the QooQee text magic widget on my Muse website. (Here's the page in question.) It has always worked great in "preview in browser." But when I uploaded it to my site via ftp, it no longer functions. (I use BlueHost as my host.) Any idea why this might be happening. I already contacted QooQee and this was the response I received:
    "I am not sure, but to make sure that the muse project uploads correctly, please use the “upload to FTP host” option in muse instead of uploading manually. If that does not work you need to contact your hosting to see why you do nougat all the scripts uploaded.
    Note that the widget functions as it shows up in the preview but it will not upload so it will  not in the hosted site."
    I upload my site using the Muse upload to FTP host option.
    So I contacted BlueHost and they said they couldn't help me since it was 3rd party software.
    Please, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Kristine

    Thanks for trying anyway, Bernard!
    Yeah, I've now had two of QooQee's widgets either not work or completely break my site. Bummer.
    Time to stop using them.

  • Searchable text in a PDF?

    Is it possible to make the text in a PDF (scanned book pages) searchable? I have Adobe Acrobat Standard, Professional 6.0

    You need to OCR it first.

  • Text validation widget bug?

    I have used text validation in a table body like this:
    <table style="width:20%">
    <tbody id="login_val">
    <tr><td>E-Mail</td><td><input
    name="login" id="login" type="text"></td></tr>
    <tr class="textfieldRequiredMsg"><td
    colspan="2">Enter your login E-Mail.</td></tr>
    <tr class="textfieldInvalidFormatMsg"><td
    colspan="2">Enter a valid E-Mail address.</td></tr>
    </tbody>
    <tbody>
    <tr><td></td><td><input
    name="submint" id="submit" type="submit" value="Log
    In"></td></tr>
    </tbody>
    </table>
    Initialised with: var login_val = new
    Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("login_val", "email",
    {validateOn:["blur"]});
    If there is an input error - the error table-row shows up as
    expected but the first td of the first row (the one showing the
    word 'E-Mail') suddenly has a colspan"2" on it too. (tested only in
    Firefox)
    Do I miss something here? Or is this a bug? Feature???
    Cheers from down under.

    Hello,
    I think the problem in this situation appears because of the
    CSS definition. The default definition right now to display an
    error message is:
    .textfieldRequiredState .textfieldRequiredMsg,
    display: inline;
    color: #CC3333;
    border: 1px solid #CC3333;
    When this class is used with table rows the results are
    unexpected because the table rows have a special status and cannot
    normally be displayed as an inline element. Unfortunately your
    scenario hit a browser limitation in the CSS implementation. The IE
    because it doesn't have yet support for display:table as the CSS2
    specify will render "correctly (?!)" the display:inline or
    display:block on table row elements. FF because it has correct
    support for display:table-row will work incorrectly with the inline
    as the specification mention.
    The only solution I see is to manipulate the CSS height
    property, margin and padding instead of manipulating the display if
    you want to continue to use the table structure above.
    Regards,
    Cristian

  • Searchable text in DPS

    Can anyone tell me how to make text searchable in a DPS publication from Indesign? I am working with educational content creators and they have asked if it is possible to have the text in the DPS document searchable and to make “Study notes” from the selected text?

    Short of creating the entire thing in HTML and having a lot of custom
    code/markup, you can't.

        Click the gear in the upper-right corner
    Select Site Settings
    Under Look and Feel, select Title, description, and logo
    Delete the text in the Title: box
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/e5fbdd39-fb64-4db4-907a-63afa89b5462/remove-title-from-sharepoint-site?forum=sharepointcustomizationlegacy
    If you are only wanting to remove it from a single page you can add a "Content Editor Web Part"  to the page.   Then change the Layout properties of the Content Editor Web Part to  hidden.
    Using the Source Editor for that webpart you can paste the following code:
    <style>
    .ms-globalTitleArea {
    display:none;
    </style>
    This will hide that entire area.  If you still would like to have the search bar available you will want to paste in this instead:
    <style>
    .ms-sitetitle {
    display:none;
    </style>
    This will only hide the title and will leave the search visible.

  • Validation Text Field widget to validate zip

    How do you validate a zip code to allow either a regular zip
    or a zip + 4. I do not see how to use an "or" validation for the
    format("zip_us5" or "zip_us9")? Also, an example of using a regular
    expression to do a custom validation would be nice.
    Thanks

    If u take a closer look to that page, u will see that Spry
    Allows custom validations: (check the source of the file)
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var passwordStrength = function(value, options){
    if (value.length < 8 || value.length > 10)
    return false;
    if (value.replace(/[^0-9]*/ig, '').length < 2)
    return false;
    if (value.replace(/[^a-z]/ig, '').length < 2)
    return false;
    if (value.replace(/[0-9a-z]/ig, '').length == 0)
    return false;
    return true;
    var passwordTheSame = function(value, options){
    var other_value = document.getElementById('text212').value;
    if (value != other_value){
    return false;
    return true;
    var customFunction = new
    Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("customPasswordFunction", "custom",
    {validation: passwordStrength, validateOn:["blur", "change"]});
    var passwordDuplication = new
    Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("dupFunction", "custom",
    {validation: passwordTheSame, validateOn:["change", "blur"]});
    //-->
    </script>
    So this might be the solution for u.
    I don't think Spry supports double validations.. Atleast i
    wouldnt have a clue how, unless.... u use the custom validation
    function ;o

  • How to add invisible but searchable text

    As a workaround for the limited text formatting options offered by Dreamweaver, I normally create an entire web page in Photoshop and save it as a .jpg image which I then insert into a blank Dreamweaver document. This method works well except for one thing: the text is not visible to Google because it is part of the image. I realize that I could add the main text in Dreamweaver, but the end result is not as aesthetically pleasing. So here's my question:
    Is there a way to paste the real text into a hidden field that will be seen by Google? For example, can I insert this text as a comment? And if so, is there a limit to how much text a comment can contain? As I understand it, comments are only visible in Code view, so they might fill the bill if Google can see them. Suggestions appreciated.

    THAT design needs to be an image?
    the ONLY thing that needs to be an image is the portrait and the site background.
    the rest can easily be done with css
    id structure the html something like this
    <body>
    <div id="wrapper">
    <div id="singlecol">
    <img src="image.jpg" alt="image">
    <cite>Quote</cite>
    <address>address</address>
    </div>
    <div id="doublecol">
    <h1> Name</h1>
    <h2>Subtitle</h2>
    <ul id="nav">
    <li><a href="#">Home</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">About Me</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Individual Therapy</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Relationships</a></li>
    </ul>
    <h3>Page title</h3>
    <cite>quote</cite>
    <p>
    page content
    </p>
    </div>
    <div id="footer">
    copyright notice
    </div>
    </div>
    </body>
    now for your css
    you'll be able to get the font details from your psd simple enough (eg.
    font-family
    font-size
    font-weight
    line-height
    letter-spacing
    text-align
    color
    etc etc)
    for h1, h2, h3
    p
    cite and
    address
    #nav li
    #nav li a
    #nav li a:hover
    (google how to make a nav with an unordered list)
    the divs and background will require some thought but it isnt a complicated layout and could be replicated quite easily.
    body
    #wrapper
    #singlecol
    #doublecol
    #footer

  • Crystal Report print to PCL file needs to contain searchable text

    Hi,
    I am using VS(2005) and Crystal Report XI R2 .net Service pack 4.  I need to be able to create a pcl file that contains text information on the first page that needs to be parsed and read by another application.  However, I am not able to use a generic/text only pcl driver to do this because the remainder of the report (page 2 on) needs to contain lines and table borders as if it were printed to paper from the printer.  The report/print to file driver I have configured will produce a pcl file that meets my requirements when I print from Crystal XI R2 but when I use either the .Net view or I print directly form code all of the text in the pcl file is contained in an image.
    Any suggestions on ways I can resolve this issue are greatly appreciated.
    Greg

    The CR.NET uses the .NET Framework print service for sending the output to the printer itself, where the page is sent as an image.  There's no way to alter this behavior within CR.NET.
    This is problematic for your task, as well as for tasks that rely embedded fonts or text strings (such as phone dialers, faxes, printer fonts, etc).
    Whatever you do, you'd have to do outside of CR.NET
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Spry Validation Text Field widget

    I want to make sure users insert a properly formatted email
    address, which I found out how to do here.
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Spry/1.4/help.html?content=WSC7D22C22-1123-4e9b-8218-F317C DD39F2B.html
    The problem is that when the user inserts an invalid email
    address the text box stays red but no error message displays. How
    do I go about having the error message show. Right now it only
    shows if they leave the box blank.

    I went to
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/formsvalidation/
    to try to get an idea how they did their form and they have check
    marks and x to better define their section. It seems all the
    customizing requires knowledge of Javascript which I am not too
    strong in. I guess there is no menu driven method to duplicate that
    form.
    Looks like nobody else has played with form validation
    either.
