Searching an XML file and using getNextSibling()

I apologise if this question has been answered before, but I haven't been able to find a precise answer to my problem.
Here is a snippet of my XML file:
<organization...>
<title>
<item...>
<title>
<adlcp:prerequisites>
What I want to do is search this file based on item title (org->item->title). When I find the corresponding entry, I want to traverse back up the tree to retrieve an attribute of the <item> tag, the <title> belonging to the organisation, and I also want to record the sibling node <adlcp:prerequisites>.
I have no trouble obtaining traversing up the tree from the item <title>, but as soon as I try calling getFirstChild() or getNextSibling(), my method throws an exception.
Here is an excerpt of my (somewhat shoddy) code:

And this is the point where it all goes wrong. Can anyone shed some light on what I am doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After a little more debugging, I discovered that you are correct - trying to access the Node is throwing a NullPointerException, and admittedly, I was not accounting for that.
However, while I can easily take care of a NullPointerException, I am still bewildered as to why the getNextSibling function returns null in the first place. A quick snippet of the file in question shows:

Considering my Node "topicNode" points to the "<title>Topic_2_parallel_and_serial</title> node, I am confused as to why getNextSibling does not return the <adlcp...> node. Is it not the next direct sibling?

    Hi all,
    I want to read a large xml file and display graphically in swing as a tree structure.
    I implemented it and works fine for files of 5MB size after increasing the jvm heap size (-Xmx). If the file size is larger than 5MB it throws out of memory error. I'm creating a custom datastructure from the xml and I'm using sax parsing.
    After displaying the datastructure, the user could do some operation on this, like search etc.
    Can any of you suggest a method, to support larger files ? What I'm looking for is create the datastructure in file system, rather than in memory.
    Any other tips for memory management would be greatly appreciated

  • Using JScript to search an XML File

    I have an XML file that has three fields in each section like the following:

    and what i want to do is search the xml file to find if a part number exists.  All this has to do is return a Yes or No response...
    The problem I am experiencing is that i can get the script to read the xml and display it on the screen but once i try to add in code to actually do a search it goes all haywire... i don't know if i'm jsut doing something stupid or if i'm doing it all incorrectly.
    Please be gentle, this is my first time...

    Hi ,
    We have a catalog that defines 2 types of products (they have too many different properties), so wanted to keep them on two different MDEX engines and serve the applications requests. Here DB catalog and front end ATG application is same for both the MDEX instances.
    Is it possible to have 2 different output config XML files and index the data into 2 endeca apps using the same indexing component ProductCatalogSimpleIndexingAdmin?

    Hi, also have had some problem some monthes ago - I created separete component ProductCatalogSimpleIndexingAdminSecond. After that one of my colleage gave me some advice:
    The creating separate component like ProductCatalogSimpleIndexingAdmin for the second IOC is possible way for resolving your situation. But I afraid that this way will be required creating mane duplicates for already existed components.
    In my opinion the better way is the following:
    starting from AssemblerApplicationConfiguration and ApplicationConfiguration component. It contains details for connecting between ATG and Endeca. Of course you should configure different components for different Endeca Apps.
    After that:
    Find all components that uses AssemblerApplicationConfiguration and ApplicationConfiguration. Customize these components for using one or another  *Configuration component depending on what index works. (many variants released it: the most simple global custom component with flag.)
    Then customize the existed ProductCatalogSimpleIndexingAdmin. Using one or another IOC  and setting the flag in global custom component when index started. You can add some methods into your custom ProductCatalogSimpleIndexingAdmin like:
    Execute baseline index for both IOC (one by one)
    Execute baseline for IOC 1
    Execute baseline for IOC 2.
    Note: you should be afraid about incremental (partial) index in this configuration. But resolving conflicts in incremental index should be done after full implementation these changes.

    We have an requirement where our SharePoint intranet site needs to search content in XML files and display the result. The XML file has different attributes associated content nodes and search should allow faceted search using these attributes. The

    I would like to know what is best option available to search XML files in SharePoint. These are option that I can think of
    Store the XML files in SharePoint document library or in a shared folder. Write a custom Search Indexing Connector using
    SharePoint Search Connector framework to crawl and index the XML files.
    Parse and store the XML files in SharePoint list and allows SharePoint search engine to crawl and index the SharePoint list content.
    Parse and store the XML files in a custom database (e.g. SQL Database), and use BCS (Business Connectivity Service) external content type feature to crawl and index the content.
    Parse and store the XML files in a custom database (e.g. SQL Database), and use the SQL query and a business layer component to fetch the content from database. And use the custom web part to fetch and display the content. Note, there is no SharePoint
    search feature is used for this approach.

    Hi Patni,
    Thanks for posting your query here, I would suggest you option 2. I have implementation the same thing in one of my solution so its more proven Technic.
    Let me tell you the implementation part of it.
    1. Save your XML files in in SQL Server DATABASE .
    2. Create a WCF or Windows Server to fetch the XML files and segregate the Metadata based on your XML attributes
    3. Use implementation WCF in Custom .NET BCS or SharePoint Designer BCS to get the Data in SharePoint.
    4. Now, you can configure your BCS for crawling in SharePoint Search application.
    5. Check out the Crawl log for verify the Data
    Also, you can test the Search result using Mossman tool that is freely available on below mentioned URL

    i am searching code to extract data from xml file and insert into another exiting xml file by a java program. I understood it is easy to extract data from a xml file, and how ever without creating another xml file. We want to insert the extracted data into another exiting xml file. Suggestions?

    If the files are small, you can load the target file in a DOM document, insert the data from the source file and persist the DOM.
    If the files are large, you probably want to use a StAX or SAX.

  • I want to remove the yahoo search bar from Firefox and use the google search bar.

    I did go to about:config and made the keyword.URL to default (Google). It is not getting affected. Please help me to know how can I set it in Firefox.

    Work around that I have used (my machine is running Windows XP SP3 might work on other systems as well):
    1) Ensure Firefox is closed, if necessary read this in another browser
    2. Open the Firefox directory on the hard drive (typically: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox)
    3. Go into the 'searchplugins' folder
    4. Delete the file named 'yahoo.xml'
    5. Immediately restart your machine

    Try opening the problem files using a text editor or file viewer to see what the first few bytes contain. All valid FM binary files for FM 11 will contain <MakerFile 11.0> in the first bytes of the file.
    When updating books, it's sometimes better to just to create a new book file and add the files to that.
    When renaming files in a book, changes at the system level will break any links/cross-references between files, so it's always best to use the Rename option in the Book file to change FM file names. This will maintain the correct linkages.

  • Reading A xml file and sending that XML Data as input  to a Service

    I have a requirement to read(I am using File adapter to read) a xml file and map the data in that xml to a service(schema) input variable.
    Example of  xml file that I have to read and the content of that xml file like below:

    I have to pass the data(ravi,EEE,raghu etc) to a service input varible. That invoked Service input variable(schema) contains the schema similar to above schema.
    My flow is like below:
      ReadFile file adapter -------------------> BPEL process -----> Target Service.I am using transform activity in BPEL process to map the data from xml file to Service.
    I am using above xml file as sample in Native Data format(to create XSD schema file).
    After I built the process,I checked file adapter polls the data and receive the file(I am getting View xml document in EM console flow).
    But transform activity does not have anything and it is not mapping the data.I am getting blank data in the transform activity with only element names like below

    Thank you very much for your replies so far so that I have some progrees in my task.
    As you told I could have put default directory in composite.xml,but what happenes is the everyday new final subdirectory gets created  in the 'soafolder' folder.What I mean is in  the c:/soafolder/1234_xmlfiles folder, the '1234_xmlfiles' is not manually created one.It is created automatically by executing some jar.
    Basically we can't know the sub folder name until it is created by jar with its own logic. whereas main folder is same(soafolder) ever.
    I will give you example with our folder name so that it would be more convenient for us to understand.
    1) yesterday's  the folder structure :  'c:/soafolder/130731_LS' .The  '130731_LS' folder is created automatically by executing some jar file(it has its own logic to control and create the subdirectories which is not in our control).
    2) Today's folder structure :  'c:/soafolder/130804_LS. The folder is created automatically(everytime the number part(130731,130804).I think that number is indicating 2013 july 31 st like that.I have to enquire about this)is changing) at a particular time and xml files will be loaded in the folder.
    Our challenge : It is not that we can put the default or further path in composite.xml and poll the file adapter.Not everytime we have to change the path in composite.xml.The process should know the folder path (I don't know whether it is possible or not.) and  everyday and file adapter poll the files in that created subfolders.
    I hope you can understand my requirement .Please help me out in this regard.

  • Reading XML file and skip certain elements/attributes??

    Hi folks!
    Suppose I have a XML file looking like this:

    In my Java application I want to read this XML file and print it on the screen (including all tags etc). So far, so good. BUT, if I want to skip certain elements, i.e. all information about the dvd 'X-Men', how am I supposed to do this? In other words, I would like my app to skip reading all information about X-Men and continue with the next <dvd>... </dvd> tag. Is this possible?

    A possibility that comes to mind is to create an XSLT script to do whatever it is you want - and call it from inside the program. The XSLT script can be stashed inside your .jar file by using getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("...")

    Hmmm. There is nothing special about an XML file to any other file. The data is simply formatted in a certain way. So to write an XML file, it is no different to writing any other form of file in Java (assuming you know the structure of the xml format to write - which you should)
    If you don't know how to write files using Java I would suggest using the Java Tutorial found on java.sun.com and do some reading up about I/O since this is fairly fundamental.
