Searching by genre, iTunes 10 - 11

Hello,
How come it's not possible anymore to search by genre, typing in some words of the genre-label that I gave to a song?
I labeled all the songs in my collection with a genre, but I gave multiple labels in the genre field, for instance (song 1) "80's Alternative Rock" or (song 2) "Funk Alternative Electro".
Following these two examples, I want to be able to hear both songs in an "Alternative" list. I used to type "Alternative" in the search bar and got all the songs that were labeled with that word. Since I also wanted these songs to pop up in, respectively "80's" and "Rock" ; and "Funk" and "Electro" lists, I gave multiple labels in the genre field. It worked like a charm, but in iTunes 11 you don't get the genre-search-results anymore.... Could this be fixed? Or is it possible to adjust this in settings I haven't found?
In really prefer this method over the genre-options that iTunes 11 offers. I really think it's a step back. But I guess both options don't have to exclude eachother.
Thanks, cheers,
Jeroen

Jeroen,  Use the command View > Cloumn Browser...  and make sure the box for Genres is checked.  See picture below:

Stop whining and you're much more likely to get help.
Managing content on the iOS device has not changed in any way with the new version of iTunes.
It is still possible to "drag and drop" content onto the device, my personal opinion is that this is a silly way of managing content.
Simply select the content desired to sync to the device and synce.
IF you really want to "drag and drop" content, then Manually manage content on the device must be select from the summary tab for the device.  Then drag and drop content all you desire.  This may require having the sidebar displayed.  To display the sidebar, type Cntrl + S.

  • How to search ebooks in iTunes if I only know ISBN of one book? How could I know its iTunes book'ID from the isbn?

    Dear community members,
I'm new here. I have a question about searching ebooks in itunes search API.
If I know ISBN of one book, either 10-digit ISBN or 13-digit ISBN, how could I know its ebook ID in itunes store?
In other words, is there any rule that I could convert regular ISBNs to ebook IDs? Or where I could find the reference?
    Thank you.

Try searching Amazon or Barnes & Noble or your local library, if they have an online search, for the ISBN. That will give you the title of the book so you can then search the iBooks store. Or just buy the book from Amazon or B&N as a Kindle or Nook book; both have viewers for Windows and Mac as well as iOS devices.
    Regards.

  • Where is the power search option in itunes??

where is the power search option in itunes??

I too am looking for this mysterious "File Sharing" pane. I have iBooks, GoodReader, Dropbox. It still doesn't appear. Will it only show up if you have updated file sharing apps? Which ones are they?

  • The "Search" facility on iTunes is ridiculously inadeqate !!!

The iTunes Store has expanded in leaps and bounds but the "Search" facility has remained the same squatty little box where you can't find exactly what you are looking for and the "Results" display cuts off the end of the results !
What we need are proper advanced search facilities to cope with the size of the content now on the store !!!

There is no power search for my own library, as far as I can tell. And the local search is easier to trip up with trivial mismatches than the store search.
    lovin' vs loving
    and vs &
    can't vs cant
    Dooo vs doo
    Jim vs James
    Beetles vs Beatles
    stop! vs stop, vs stop
    de franco vs defranco
    4 seasons vs four seasons
And for some reason it doesn't like extraneous commas locally, but will take 'em in a store search. For example, copy-n-past this from some website into search in the itunes store...
    beatles, yellow submarine
...and get predictable results. Do that locally and you'll get nothing because it doesn't like the comma.
In short, in the 21st century you'd want a music library and store to have a music-specific search that is not easily tripped up by trivial mismatches, misspellings, abbreviations, punctuation and nicknames. Finding, say, which album contains a track I want, is easier on amazon than on itunes, just like using google to find things in wikipedia is easier than using the wiki search. And if an itunes search comes up empty, I copy-n-paste the search into amazon to see if what I'm looking for really isn't available or if I typed something trivially wrong. It's usually the latter.

  • Why does search in the iTunes Store on the Mac produce different results than in the new Podcaster app?

If I search in the iTunes Store (in iTunes) on my Mac for this word:
    msworld
I get two Podcasts I can subscribe to.
If I do the same search in the new Podcaster IOS app, I get no matching items as a result.
Does anyone know why or how to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Alan

    Problem solved.
It's the new Apple IOS Podcasts app, just released June 26, 2012.
It works fine, and search above works.
    Thanks,
    Alan

  • Why do i get a run time error box pop up and then close itunes when I search in the iTunes store?

Wnen i search in the itunes store, a ren time error pops up and then closes my itunes. why is it doing this? I have to go thru power search to get around the problem and is not as convenient. thanks, Jamboy72

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder to remove the file(s) that cause the problem.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • How Can I Set the Search Field in iTunes?

    In applescript...
In another app - I have copied a song title to the clipboard...
Q: Now - How Can I Set the Search Field in iTunes to the clipboard contents?
Q: Also how can I also open the main library itunes window?

    Hi Rev Dave,
Q: Now - How Can I Set the Search Field in iTunes to
    the clipboard contents?
Unfortunately the only way I can think to achieve this involves the use of "UI Scripting". The other previous posters have given you the preferred method you should consider using. If you want to script iTunes so that you visually see the search take place in iTunes you'll need to use the method shown in the script I've posted below.
Q: Also how can I also open the main library itunes
    window?
Cyclosaurus has given you the answer to this part of your question already.
Here is a script that (though ugly IMHO) should achieve what you are asking for:set theSearch to (the clipboard) as string
    tell application "iTunes"
    activate
    set allPlaylists to playlists
    repeat with aList in allPlaylists
if name of aList is not "Library" then
set view of front browser window to aList
    exit repeat
    end if
    end repeat
    set LibList to playlist "Library"
set view of front browser window to LibList
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "iTunes"
if "iTunes" is not in name of windows or ¬
focused of window "iTunes" is false then ¬
    keystroke "1" using command down
    keystroke tab
    keystroke theSearch
    end tell
end tellIn order for the above script to work you need to have "Enable access for assistive devices" enabled in the "Universal Access" section of the "System Preferences" application.
If you have any further questions about the above script feel free to ask.
    Hope this helps...

  • TS3297 Error when I use search function in itunes store and select an artist

When I use search function in itunes store and select an artist I get this message. Microsoft visual C++ run time library. Prog C:\progfiles\itunes\itunes.exe  R6025 - Pure virtual function call .  It then shuts down itunes and cannot provide a solution.
Have tried reinstalling itunes but it did not help.  Any other ideas?

I have yet to find a solution, but as a work around, do not click or select any of the suggested results while you are typing in your search. Type in your search, and press enter.

  • TS1424 no search button in itunes store

no search button in itunes store

I was doing the Reset All Settings thing at least once a week, which worked, but then would fail again. Finally, I turned in my 4S for an unrelated issue and I have not had the search problem once with the new phone. It is definetly something to do with software. If you have the ability to trade it in, like through Apple Care,  then do it.
P.s.  I turned in my old 4s because one of the small prongs in the dock/plug port got bent.

  • THERE IS A RUNTIME ERROR WHEN SEARCHING IN THE ITUNES STORE. R6050

I have windows vista OS. i-tunes 10.6. when searching on the itunes store, there is a Runtime error R6050 and itunes shut down. Anyone can help with this error? I have tried to reinstalled the program already, same problem.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Recently when I search for things in the top right search bar in iTunes, the results show up but I cannot click on them. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Recently when I search for things in the top right search bar in iTunes, the results show up but I cannot click on them. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Go to this address: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?country=AU
Item 24 lists 3 installable major search engines for Australia.
You can also restrict your search in Google by including ''country:au'' or ''location:au'' or ''city:perth'' (for example) in your search terms. Example: ''city:sydney plumbers'' in the Google search box will list plumbers in cities named sydney.

  • I have not been able to select on any search results in iTunes. I uninstalled a browser extension program (Spigot) and I was able to resolve the issue.

I was having an issue with selecting any of the Search Results when I perform a search in the iTunes Store on my Windows 7 professional computer. I went through my installed programs and looked for any programs that were installed around the time I started having the issue. I removed 2 of the programs, one was a Browser Search Extension and the other was Spigot another browser extension. After removing these programs the issue was resolved! I hope this helps others that may have this issue.

    Try this:
    Change the Apple TV resolution:
Press and hold the Menu and Up button on your Apple Remote for six seconds.
The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals.
Press Play on the Apple Remote to keep the current resolution or Select to manually cycle to the next resolution.

  • Using search bar in itunes when not connected to internet causes problem

I just upgraded to the newest version of itunes and I haven't had this problem before, but when I use the search bar in itunes to find something in the library (when I'm off line)I get an error report to send. Does the new itunes require being online even to look up something in the library or a playlist?

I'm getting a similar problem, not the exact error message, but one telling me I need to connect to the internet to buy itunes, when I am connected, so I'll be interested in the answer to your question too
