Searching by Genre

I was wondering how to specify the genre in the search field to yield song results of the genre.

I was wondering how to specify the genre in the search field
Type the Genre you want.
Better yet, iTunes menu View -> Column browser and select the Genre you want.

  • Searching by genre, iTunes 10 - 11

    Hello,
How come it's not possible anymore to search by genre, typing in some words of the genre-label that I gave to a song?
I labeled all the songs in my collection with a genre, but I gave multiple labels in the genre field, for instance (song 1) "80's Alternative Rock" or (song 2) "Funk Alternative Electro".
Following these two examples, I want to be able to hear both songs in an "Alternative" list. I used to type "Alternative" in the search bar and got all the songs that were labeled with that word. Since I also wanted these songs to pop up in, respectively "80's" and "Rock" ; and "Funk" and "Electro" lists, I gave multiple labels in the genre field. It worked like a charm, but in iTunes 11 you don't get the genre-search-results anymore.... Could this be fixed? Or is it possible to adjust this in settings I haven't found?
In really prefer this method over the genre-options that iTunes 11 offers. I really think it's a step back. But I guess both options don't have to exclude eachother.
    Thanks, cheers,
    Jeroen

Jeroen,  Use the command View > Cloumn Browser...  and make sure the box for Genres is checked.  See picture below:

  • How to search a genre for a specific title in the iTunes Store and have a concise result

How can I search the iTunes for say:  Title = "Satisfied" and Genre = "Christian & Gospel" and have a result with only tunes that start with "Satisfied" within the Genre "Christian & Gospel"

    Hi Aravinda,
SharePoint list column (or site column used as a list column), after we create a list item and make sure column has value, and start a full crawl, then a Crawled Property format as ows_thisColumnName (e.g. ows_Description in this case) will be
generated for this column, you can check the search service application from Central Administration site, find the Crawled Property ows_Description and make sure the option "include values for this property in the search index" is checked, and
re-start a full crawl, then check results again.
    Thanks

  • Search by Genre

I am looking for Jewish folk songs and I note that search results on "jewish" show a Genre called Judaism. However, that genre doesn't appear on the general list of genres so I don't know how to see a list of just that genre. Can someone assist...?

I don't believe that the iTunes Store has a genre specifically for Jewish music. The closest I can find are genres for Chanukah and Klezmer. The "judaism" genre seems to be for podcasts only.

  • Put a song into more than one genre

I am trying to organize my music and would like to put a song into more than one genre.  So if I put a song into the categories "acoustic"  and "blues" I would like for that song to come up with I search acoustic songs as well as when I search Blues songs.  How can I do this?

    Genre= "Acoustic Blues"
Search for "Genre contains" as opposed to "Genre IS".

  • Front row movie section show genres

i have an extensive movie collection in itunes and want to set it up so i can choose a genre to see specific movies similar to what the music section has but cannot find a way to do it. is there any way to search by genre in the movie section

That says the file is actually gone from the hard drive where it was once linked. It is merely a shortcut pointer in iTunes. You will have to recover the file from your backup, or if you have no backup run a data recovery to attempt to recover it, if you can't find it elsewhere on the hard drive. The program Easy Find is indepedent of Spotlight and it may be able to find it, and so is Whatsize:
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/index.html
    http://www.id-design.com/software/whatsize/index.php
Whatsize of course you'd be able to figure out where it is by noticing which folders have large files, and looking for large videos in those folders.
The only inexpensive data recovery program I found works very well is Prosoft Data Rescue:
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/datarescueinfo.php
And it needs an external hard drive as large or larger than your internal to recover information to.
If that doesn't work, an expensive data recovery firm may be your only choice to recover the file.

  • Browsing by genre / artist view

Hi! Just upgraded to iTunes v7.0. In v6.0 I could search by genre, artist etc in the top, now I just have all my songs in the library. Is there a way to get this back? Many thanks!

A found it... view: show browser.... well well... would have expected that my settings would not have been touched by the upgrade:-)

  • Playing music by genres - doesn't work with an upgrade

Hello, I have just upgraded my iPhone (which I regret doing now) and iTunes from 10.5 to 10.6 and the way the music is played has changed: I used to play all my songs by genre but I don't see that option now. I can search by genre, and I made sure that I have a Genre for all the songs. On my iPhone, once in the Music program, I select the genre I want, but there is no option anymore of "All Albums", and subsequently "All Songs", at the top of the list, so I cannot play all songs in the selected genre, but only by each particular artist. Is it because it's not set up properly somehow in my updated iTunes? Does anyone know how do I change that?

Nothing to do with settings .... Apple had messed that up by poor quality checking ..... However, there are 2 workarounds available to listen all songs from the same Genre ....
    1) Ask Siri to open the songs from the specific Genre and then shuffle all songs.
    2) Open the Music app.... in the "Search" tab at the top of the screen, type your specific Genre .... then shuffle all songs ....

  • Searching for movies from an iPad

I am trying to find movies to rent on my iPad HOWEVER all it gives me at launch are the "Featured" New and Noteworthy.  The TOP CHARTS  doesnt load anything and when I try to search by movie title it only gives me Podcast results.  If I try to search by Genre again I get a blank page as the results. Plus it keeps crashing on me.

No idea what's going on, but first thing I'd do would be to reboot the iPad if it's crashing like that.

  • Shuffling through a genre after the latest update?

I'm new to this community, so please bear with my here...
How can I play a specific genre on shuffle mode?
After iOS 7 was released, the genre menu only included artists, and you could not play the entire genre on shuffle. There was a workaround by going to "songs" and searching for the genre itself, where it gave you a list of the genre's songs instead of artists (so you could listen to all the songs within a specific genre instead of only one artist at a time).
After the latest update, this no longer works. Are there any ways around this?
    Thanks for your help!

I had the same problem and I just tried something and it works.
    -Creat a playlist
    -Search by genre
    -Add all songs
***** that you will need to create a new playlist for all the genres but at least it works!!
    Cheers mate

  • Getting Top 200 songs for a certain Genre

    All,
I found the following link about genre mapping within iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/resources/documentation/genre-mapping.htm l
If I look for country for example I know I can use this url:
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/rss/topsongs/genre=6/json
However this only returns the top 10 songs at the moment. If I search for Country in iTunes it will display these top 10 on the right hand side and that's fine but then you can click on see all and it will show you the top 200 songs. How can I obtain those songs using this method? I'm ok with also using the Web Search API and actually prefer to use this method but not sure how to use it to search for genres.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/resources/documentation/itunes-store-web- service-search-api.html
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Search Capabilities

I have a few suggestions for searching. First, hopefully most people have noticed the difficulties that lie with the current search aspect. If you only have a few hundred ebooks, that isn't a big deal. However, I have almost 8,000 ebooks in my library (one of these days, using iTunes I will have them all properly sorted and that will help the process immensely).
First, having a search bar that stays locked at the top would be a HUGE help. As it is now, once you start scrolling down you lose the search bar.
Second, let's say you type in an authors name, John Sandford for instance. He has lots of books. You click on one only it's the wrong one. You go back to library. Does it take you back to the John Sandford category? No, it leaves you stranded where the sort has the last book stored. So, if you are Virgil Flowers, you have to scroll ALL the way back to the top. With as many books as I have that's about a 5 minute process. Unless I accidentally click on a title in which case I have to spend time getting back out of it.
Third, I'd like to see a way to search via Genre. Title, Author, and Genre.
Fourth, and last for now, why is it again that you can't set you overall iOS Search feature to also search iBooks for a specific title and open it up?
Four very simple app fixes that would really make this even more of a winning product than it already is.
    Thx for checking it out.

  • How do I find holiday music before the holiday season?

I would like to browse through the available holiday albums offered by iTunes.  I would also like to see any pre-orders that I could purchase.
Right now, the only way I seem to be able to find this music is through the Browse feature in the iTunes store.  I can only browse by artist and I can't seem to view cover art at all.
Is there some way to easily search for holiday music?  I'd like to search by genre, then browse the results.  Is that possible?

I've tried that, but it seems that only finds music that has "Christmas" in the title, correct?  I'd like to browse by genre, but with album pictures and ratings displayed.  Right now, I can only get a text listing, alphabetical by artist.
Does the iTunes Store allow this?  I know that, as the season approaches, it's possible to browse this way by following a link from the music page.  I'd like to have that link available year-round.

  • Changing order of sort categories...

I have 5th gen ipod - not sure if i can do this?
Whenever I search via "Genre", the next search category is "Artist". I want to try to change it so that the next search category is "Album" instead. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, but no, I was referring to the way the ipod itself allows you to search for tracks, not itunes. If on your ipod you search music, and in the sub-menu select "Artist" the ipod automatically gives you a list of "Albums" by that artist to search through as the next category. If instead of selecting "Artist" you select "Genre", once you have selected your genre (i.e. rock or pop or alternative etc) then the next category the ipod moves to is "Artist". What i want to see if it's possible to change the order of things so that having selected Genre -> Rock, I can select from a list of Albums that fall into that Genre instead of Artists. Not sure if that makes any more sense?!

  • More title on PC than AppleTV

So today I am at work getting ready for a mini vacation. I start surfing iTunes to see what movies I could rent on my Apple TV. I see the movie Stardust and it looks interesting. I think to myself, "I'll show my wife the preview and see if she would like to rent it" Well I sit down at my TV and fire up the Apple TV. NO Stardust movie. I can't find the movie. I even search for it and nothing.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
Yeah, I know I can download it to my home movie and then move it over but I thought we were suppose to eliminate the computer.

Yes, there continues to be "discrepancies" between the iTunes store movie listings and the AppleTV movie listings.
In fact, some movies that the AppleTV DOES offer, don't even show up when you search by Genre. Meaning you can only find it under the massive All Movies list. And thats the ONLY place it shows up!
At this point I think we just have to chalk it up to AppleTV Take 2 still being "new" and I expect that these niggling differences will sort themselves out over time...
Until then, I regularly visit a website called AppleTVJunkie.com - they are trying to keep up with Apple and list all the HD movies that AppleTV has available for rental, and they note when new movies are added.
