Searching Corporate Address book in Convergence 1u3

It appears that searching by surname in the corporate address book is not working in our deployment of convergence: display name and and uid works. This is the value in our iwc config
ab.corpdir.[default].searchattr = entry/displayname,@uid,person/surname
Is that correct, if not what should I set?
TIA,
Dan

Thanks; It appears I had VLV indexes configured on the DS but forgot to set it in convergence

  • ACI for corporate address book search

    Hi,
I am using IDS52 and IMS52. My exisiting domain is abc.com. Due to certain circumstance, I have created another domain called; xyz.abc.com under the same messaging server. I do not want users from abc.com to see xyz.abc.com email address when they do a corporate address book search using their email client, eg:outlook express.
I have created one aci under xyz.abc.com
    (targetattr = "*") (target = "ldap:///o=xyz.abc.com,dc=abc,dc=com") (version 3.0;acl "test";deny (read,search) userdn != "ldap:///o=xyz.abc.com,dc=abc,dc=com??sub?(objectclass=inetOrgPerson)";))
Using this aci I am not only block people from abc.com to search xyz.abc.com address. In fact, people in xyz.abc.com also blocked from searching the address under their domain.
Can somebody help me, is there anything wrong with my aci? How should i rewrite it? Please help!! Thank you

    Hi Jim,
I was able to reproduce this on IWC 137631-10 (latest patch).
This is related to an existing bug, which is not fixed yet:
Bug 6795529 Corporate address book - no VLV index: search by firstname/lastname/email doesn't work
According to the developers, if VLV is not enabled in IWC, IWC/Convergence will only search by displayname (even if the user chooses lastname). The bug fix is to NOT display the options to search by lastname etc, if VLV is not enabled.
The search by lastname works for me after I enable VLV in IWC, as described in the IWC admin guide:

  • Spotlight search for Address Book contact results in import query?

This bug is happening frequently lately, wheby I perform a Spotlight seach for a contact that is in my Address Book, and then when I select the contact in the search results, Address Book is selected and the app asks me "Are you sure you want to import 1 card?"
Anybody ever see this problem or how to resolve it?
    Thanks.

Peter, that is not a solution -- try selecting the same contact again from spotlight and you'll get the same "Import" dialog box, asking you what you want to do.
The expected behavior from Address Book is to open the existing contact.
No other application does this from Spotlight that I'm aware of, and after 7 years of OS X, this is still very, very annoying.
I wish there were a fix -- I'm activley looking and will report back.

  • Convergence Corporate address book

    Good Morning,
We are currently running Convergence patch 4 and i noticed a small issue the the Address book. In particular the corporate directory,
when highlighting the corp directory tab in convergence there is an option to "add to address book" function.
When clicking on this button, it will throw an error stating "Save contact failed".
I imagine the problem stems from the address book being a corporate directory will not allow any normal user to modify the corp address book.
But from a user perspective it is very confusing, because they believe clicking on the entry and the "add to address book" button will allow them
to add the entry to the personal address book tab.
    Is my assumption correct?
    Thanks.

  • Search in Address book

How can I quickly search for a particular name in address book on iPhone? I mean I want to quickly type "Smith" and it take me to Mr. Smith instead of moving throught the alphabet to get to "S" and then roll down to Smith.

  • I suddenly cannot search my Address Book (Contacts) in Mac Mail.  Seems to be "stuck" on one contact

I suddenly cannot search my Mac Mail Contacts.  Normally, when I type in a name, it immediately comes right up to that contact.  Only way I can see a particular contact I want is to double click on that name.  I want to be able to see it to the right of the list of all my contacts on the left.  Thanks in advance for your help.  I've tried quitting the application, but it's not helping.  I've also checked and all my Software Updates are up to date.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
Not exactly clear, but in Address Books tool bar, is Groups & Names shown, or just Names?

  • Convergence Corporate Address Book with Mail Groups

    Hi
I'm not sure if this expected behavior or a bug but a search for a mail group in the Corporate Directory of Convergence returns the name of the group in the list in the left panel but no details of the group (such as mail address) in the panel on the right. The Corporate Directory search works correctly for people and returns the full set of attributes.
    The version of Convergence is:
    ./iwcadmin -V
    Sun Convergence 1.0-4.01 (built December 8 2008 - 14:54:08)Platform:
    uname -a
    SunOS mail1 5.10 Generic_138889-03 i86pc i386 i86pcThe iwcadmin options relating to search:
    ab.corpdir.[default].searchattr = entry/displayname,@uid,person/surname
    ab.corpdir.[default].searchfilter =
ab.corpdir.[default].urlmatch = ldap://corpdirectoryThere are no errors in iwc.log and the LDAP search suggests all attributes are requested. For example, an extract from the LDAP access log when searching for a group called cn=systems:
    [01/Apr/2009:09:59:54 +0100] conn=10882 op=31 msgId=101 - SRCH base="o=xxxxx" scope=2
    filter="(|(uid=systems)(sn=systems)(cn=systems))" attrs="* createTimestamp"
[01/Apr/2009:09:59:54 +0100] conn=10882 op=31 msgId=101 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=1 etime=0In case there are some missing objectclasses or attributes in our group definitions (which were imported from an earlier version of Messaging Server (5.2)), here is an LDIF file for an example group:
    dn: cn=systems,ou=Groups,o=xxx.com,o=isp

    mgmanMemberVisibility: NONE
    mgmanJoinability: NONE

In the next Convergence patch (-07 a.k.a. Convergence update 2) selecting a corporate directory group will display additional group related information including a brief listing of the members of the group and email address.
Note however that group view functionality will not mirror that provided by UWC/CE i.e. the ability to expand and view details for each group member. There is an existing RFE to have this functionality added in a future revision of Convergence:
RFE#6801528 - "Provide mechanism to view members of corporate directory groups"

  • Customize Convergence Address Book Search Field to Search on Organization

We have a requirement for users to be able to search the corporate address book by organization. Is it possible to add a Organization option to the search filter drop down in the Address Book browser page?
Currently there are only options to search on the following attributes:
    1. Display Name or Email
    2. First Name
    3. Last Name
    4. Phone Number
    We are using Convergence 2-0.06
    Thanks!

  • LDAP address book search slow

    Hi,
I am using the LDAP server on Mac OS X Server 10.4 to store our corporate address book which is updated from a php based admin. The amount of contacts is around 700 now and searchs from Apple Addressbook are taking nearly 10 seconds. Is there a way of speeding this up hopefully to below 2 seconds?
I don't know much about LDAP and have been trying to reindex the database by stopping LDAP and runnign slapindex, but this doesn't seem to have made a difference.
    Many Thanks
    Tim Pearson

I have solved my problem. I don't think the indexing was a problem. I was running on 10.4.3 and had a process called nano using my processor at 100%. I noticed this and upgraded to 10.4.6 server which has cured the problem and now the LDAP search is almost instant.

  • Address Book Search

Here's the thing .... say I need to find a contact within a particular company but I don't know the contacts actual name .... say I need to find the HR manager at Company X.
I do a search on Company X .... I get a list of contacts that I have created in that company ..... but all I see is their names .... I can't see their job title or department or anyother indicators that I have created until I actually click on individual cards . This is seems very limited to me ? Am I missing something or else I can't possible be the only person thinking this way ?  Any advice welcome, many thanks

I shouldn't have said search. I should have said view. The corporate address book can be viewed and sorted by hitting one of the letters under the search. This is what I believe is based on display name. I have confirmed that by adjusting the cn of 'First Last' to 'Last, Frist' on one user and it did allow me to do what I was referring to. When I click the letter of the last name now the user appears.
Is there any detriment to adjusting the CN for a user in this manner?

  • Address Book crashes on searches (AB 3.0.3 (v225), Mac OS 10.2.8)

I've run into problems when I try to use the search within Address Book - once I start typing some text to search for, Address Book pauses a second or so, and then quits completely on me(!). I have deleted my AB file and re-imported (from Palm Desktop file), but Address Book refuses to cooperate and just quits on me when I try to search. It will happen from within Mail as well.
    Help?!
    Jim
    <[email protected]>
(remove the SPAM from my address if you can email me with help on this, since I don't get to this discussion very often at all)

My problem may have been a corrupted AddressBook file - I replaced it with a (much older) version from another program and imported it, after removing the AB file that was giving me trouble.
So I had to re-enter a bunch of addresses, but haven't had problems with AddressBook's search since that time.

  • Wrong answers given when searching address book

Some times when I search my address book for a key word (e.g. king), the cards that are returned in the answer column a) do not have the word or four letters of king highlighted anywhere in them AND b) most do not have the word or phrase of king anywhere in them. That is, too many cards are returned as answers to the search for king and therefore the search function in Address book is not working correctly and it is VERY frustrating. To fix the problem I tried to clean the caches and I repaired permissions and did a disrepair, and I also did a spotlight index rebuild but nothing has fixed this problem. Please help! I'm using Address book 4.1.1 (699) and OS X 10.5.6.

If you are able to fix the searching problem by editing a card and then searching for it, then it sounds like your database is missing some details. I have a possible solution for you but it is risky and you need to back up your AddressBook folder (or export an Address Book Archive from the File menu).
1 - Quit all apps except Finder
    2 - Using Finder, go to (home folder)/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
3 - Drag your AddressBook-v22.abcddb file to the trash
    4 - Launch Address Book
What this does is rebuild your Address Book database from the files in the Metadata folder. That should write out the database in a way that includes all of the information required for searching.

  • Address Book searches hang/painfully slow redux

Whenever I searched for an address in Address Book, I got the spinning beach ball for over a minute. I read the discussion at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=914274
which was very helpful. I repaired my disk and cleaned my chaches and that solved the problem, without having to get into deleting the Spotlight index. I used the free program Applejack (http://applejack.sourceforge.net/) to do this, but Tiger Cache Cleaner, Cocktail, and other products will also do it.

    Bill:
Try dragging your ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ABPerson.skIndexInverted file to the trash and performing a new search in Address Book.
