Searching for dvd playback controller

There used to be a small utility that allowed complete control of OSX dvd playback. You could skip the FBI warning, etc.
There is "DVD Controller" which is a Sailing Clicker plugin. I don't want to control my dvd player from my phone; I just want to control it more fully.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated (10.5.2).

Thanks, Kappy.
I've been to VT and MU which only return hits of DVD Controller 3.0, which is a plugin and works with Sailing Clicker.
Should have been more clear: I'm not searching for a utility on my Mac. I'm searching for a 3rd party utility that will allow me to access my dvd's content without watching FBI warnings and advertisements of various sorts.
I don't want to rip the dvd and extract content and burn a new one. I just want to get rid of annoying "not permitted" etc., messages during playback. Forced viewing of federal warnings and ads is bogus, especially for kids' programs.
I saw this program when I was using Tiger, thought someone may know of a Leopard version.

  • Best Quicktime compression for DVD playback later on?

I have some DV footage that I had captured into MPEG-2 files on my old PC, then recently got a Mac and I want to be able to edit the footage on the Mac software I have and put it onto DVD for standard playback on a TV.
I've got the latest Quicktime Pro with the MPEG-2 playback component, and another program I just found called MPEG Streamline that allows me to convert the MPEG-2 files into MOV files that can be edited in iMovie and Final Cut Express, of which I have, and then I plan on just using iDVD to put the projects on DVD.
I've converted some footage using 3 different compressions: Apple DV 25, JPEG Motion A, and H.264 at NTSC 720x480 resolution so far, and cannot see any noticeable difference in the picture quality between the three converted files when played full screen with Quicktime, but of course, there is considerable difference between the resulting file size for each video. With all three files played back in Quicktime, there was some faint pixelation around moving figures in the video, even after setting the video stream to play back high quality.
I would like to know if there is and what the best compression to use would be in converting the MPEG-2 files into MOV files or other format that's compatible with iMovie and Final Cut Express that will result in the best quality for DVD playback. I don't have Final Cut Pro so I don't have Compressor, which I understand, has a preset compression optimized for DVD playback later on.

Nevermind, I just used DV compression and the playback quality came out just fine on the DVDs I've burned from the footage.

  • Best quality for DVD playback!

I just finished a film i shot in HDV my sequence properties are:
    Vid Rate: 29.97fps
    Frame Size: 1440x1080
    Compressor: HDV 1080i60
    Field Dominance: Upper Odd
what is the best why to export this sequence onto a dvd for maximum playback quality?

    Hi there,
1)make sure you export your movie in FCP as QT movie self-contained
    2)Import it in Compressor
3)In the Settings tab (lower left window) Open Apple>DVD10 groups>choose DVD 90 minutes best quality and drop that folder on your video (upper left batch window). Compressor will encode your movie as Mpeg2 video an AC3 dolby stereo. In the inspector window you can change a number of settings if you wanted to but, if you are not familiar with Compressor, leave default settings to see if you are happy with the result (take sometime to read the very useful PDF manual that you can find in the main menu>help)
    4)Choose destination
    5)Submit

  • Unsuccessful at taking wma file and converting for DVD playback

So my wife made a slideshow using Microsoft Movie maker. This program only will save the project for playback on your computer or emailing. So we ended up with a wma file. I took this into Premier Pro then exported to the encoder. I picked NTSC high quality and MPG2-DVD format. I picked dvd for multriplexing although I don't know what that does, I took the mpg quality slider from 4 to 5, and finally changed the audio to dolby digital. I end up with 4 files one is an m2v which I try and burn to dvd using the window burn dvd window but it will only play via my computer DVD drive.

    Steve,
It sounds like Windows Movie Maker Live was used. The regular WMM will Export to DV-AVI Type I, which will Import into PrPro much better.
I would recommend converting the WMA/WMV to DV-AVI, and Importing that into a DV NTSC (if you are in NTSC-land) Project.
Then, you would use Encore to do the DVD authoring. There are several ways to get the material on your Sequence into Encore. ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link) is probably the easiest way to do this.
What is your exact workflow from PrPro, into Encore?
What brand of blank media are you burning the DVD to?
This ARTICLE will give you some tips.
Good luck, and let us know a bit more,
    Hunt
PS - Multiplexing is the function of combining the Audio and the Video into one file. There are usually two choices, "None" and then often "DVD." For None, you will get two separate files - one for the Audio and one for the Video. With "DVD" you should get a muxed (combined) file. Actually, the separate Audio and Video is the preferred way, if one is doing an Export from PrPro, and then an Import to Encore. One would Import the Video into Encore as a Timeline, and the Audio as an Asset. In Encore, just drag the Audio file from the Project Panel to the appropriate Timeline, where it will snap into place.

  • Superimposing Time for DVD playback

I want to make a DVD with the project's time indicator superimposed on the video playback, so that the director can make notes, referencing the cuts he wants to critique by minuetes:seconds:frames into the playback. Is there any easy way to do this?

    James,
If you wish more control over the TimeCode display, you can use the TimeCode Effect in AfterEffects (if you have it) to change colors, fonts and more.

  • Yet another DVD Playback thread...

Gone through every other thread related to DVD playback issues when you do a forum search for "dvd playback". If I try to play a DVD, the disc spins for quite a while while (S)MPlayer just sits there and eventually crashes. Tried this with multiple DVDs, updated all my software...here's the log. Sort of looks like hardware issues to me.  Do you know that the drive works (i.e. tested in another OS, or it used to work and just stopped?)
Did you try just mplayer dvd://  ?  That's quite a long options list you've got there.
What kind of drive is it?

  • Best compression for iDVD authoring and DVD playback?

I've got the latest Quicktime Pro with the MPEG-2 playback component, and MPEG Streamline that allows me to convert the MPEG-2 files into MOV files. I want to be able to edit them in iMovie and Final Cut Express, and then I want to drop them into iDVD.
I would like to know what the best compression to use would be in converting the MPEG-2 files into MOV files or other format that's compatible with iMovie and Final Cut Express that will result in the best quality for DVD playback. I don't have Final Cut Pro so I don't have Compressor, which I understand, already has a preset compression optimized for DVD authoring and playback later on.

So you have some already mpg-2 compressed files you want to edit in FCE. Using MPEG Streamclip, I suggest you convert them to DV video (which runs about 13 GB per hour) to work on them in FCE.
As far as recompressing the edited video, I really doubt the mpg-2 encoding mode used will make much difference since you took the real quality hit when you initially mpg-2 compressed to content.
If you want to take the additional time required, you can try the new 'Professional Encoding' option in iDVD 7, but I seriously doubt it will improve anything. (You know the old 'silk purse out of a sow's ear' thing...)

    hi satproa40,
you can safely download all drivers for your satellite from: [http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp]
the "multimedia audio controller" means the sound driver,
if previously installed it may help to delete this item in the device manager and let it reinstall by system.
same procedure with the dvd-rom, if this wont work try to exchange the drive...

  • Is Red-Laser HD DVD a Workable Solution for HD Playback?

One of our Divisions has an new educational center, complete with a 90-seat theater prepped for HD and Dolby Digital 5.1. We have HD content to show in the theater. My question: Would red-laser HD DVD be a viable option for HD playback using something like a Toshiba HD DVD A-1? If cost was not an issue, I would just put a media server in and use hard drives for content delivery. I kinda feel that the HD DVD player route would be a little shaky. What do you guys think?
    tim

Cost is an issue -- at least for now. As far as length...program average is about 30 minutes.
Do you need portability? Then discs are the answer. If its just in the theater hard drives would be a better way.
No portability. The content will remain in the theater. I'd rather put a server in from someone like QuVIS or similar, but that will have to wait a little while.
What format is you HD content in?
The playback device would ultimately determine the format, but the projector is native 16:9 720p. However, a large portion (at current) of the content is produced for broadcast, mastered on 1080i HDCAM and shot on 720p Varicam. There will be differing sources for the content, but delivery specs will ultimately be written for the content played in the theater.

  • Quicktime searches for cd and dvd players

    Hi,

I've got a problem with the starting of Quicktime player for windows. When I first start Quicktime after the launch of windows it always searches for some file in the cd rome and dvd players. Only when I put a cd and a dvd into the players it allows me to open the regular movies. How can I get rid of this problem that bothers me a lot?
    Thanks for help
      Windows XP

I really believe the best way is to save the project as a disk image and burn that as slowly as possible using either the disk utility or Toast™.
Also, (very important) I'd use Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R 4X.

  • Satellite L300: Where to get free software available for HD-DVD playback

    I have a toshiba Satelitte L300 and an xbox 360 hd-dvd drive.
Can i get the Toshiba hd dvd player software without having to pay as i originally have the normal dvd play software?
If not does anyone know if there is any freeware software available for hd-dvd playback
    Thanks

    Hi neill64,
Im a little bit confused about your posting. I dont understand why your Xbox 360 has something to do with your notebook.
For watching HD DVDs you need a drive that can read this kind of disk. Furthermore as Mike30 wrote HD DVD player is preinstalled on all notebooks with such a drive. Alternative you can use VLC media player for watching DVDs. I also use this player!

Please help. I have tried exporting a Premiere CS6 movie project to Encore, and when I play the burnt Encore DVD on my DVD player, it plays back fuzzy and it actually bounces. Here is my question: What are the correct Premeire CS6 export settings/ Encore DVD burning settings to get a normal, crisp and clear DVD playback?
This project is due tomorrow!!! Any help is much appreciated!

    Export from Premiere as MPEG2-DVD.
Import and burn resulting file(s) in Encore.
You can twerk your Bitrate Settings on export to increase quality.
