Searching for files on Time Capsule without TM

Hello,
I'm using TC (Time Capsule) as a wireless hard drive so far and it works great. *I don't use TM ( Time Machine*.
When I execute a search either form from Spotlight or Finder, I notice results do not include anything that's sitting on the TC.
From finder, let's say I select TC in the left pane, then type a word in the search field that I know is sitting on my TC's hard drive. On the left pane, my computer device becomes highlighted but does not return any file related to the TC, only files on my PC.
How can I fix that so it searches my PC AND TC?

I should have written:
"How can I make sure Spotlight / Finder searches both on my MAC AND my TC ? ? ( don't use a PC anymore)

  • Can Spotlight search for file creation time ?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to use Spotlight to find files with a specific creation date and creation time ?
    Example:
    creation date: exactly 03/03/2008
    creation time: after 10:00 and before 12:00

    Hi Kees, not that I'm aware of, and since you can't run Classic and "Find File", I'd get EasyFind, Spotlight won't be reliable...

    Near the bottom of the page.
    you can at least sort by date/time then to narrow it.

  • Access files on Time Capsule worldwide

    What is the easiest way to connect to my files on my Time Capsule from all over the world? I don't know if I have a static IP, or if I even need one... Neither do I know if DHCP and NAT must be turned on or not. Once it is turned on, light is red...

    Set up to use BTMM and iCloud. That is the only method that Apple supports.
    Read the instructions.

    You can use the TC in bridge.. it might be a little harder to get working but should work.

    If you do not want to use btmm and icloud method, then you need either a static public IP address or you need dyndns so you can discover your IP from anywhere. The TC does not have a dyndns client. So check your main router, and ensure that it does have dyndns and set that up. Then you need to port forward 548 TCP to the TC which means you need to set that up in the network also with a static IP address .. that is controlled by using dhcp reservations on the main router or actually just set the TC to correct IP in the range.
    Google search for remote access time capsule or substitute airport extreme. There are heaps of full explanations with pictures on the web to do it.

    You do not need all the details in there but the method is still correct.

    You can, but how are you going to back up those other files?  When (not if) your Time Capsule fails, you risk losing them.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details.
    Then can i access these files only on the time capsule without connecting it?
    Not sure what you mean.  You have to connect a computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, to read or write to the disk.

  • How can I search for files on multiple servers at one time?

    When I hit command+F, and use spotlight to search for files, I'm only given the opportunity to search for those files in three places: "This Mac", "Shared", and then the server or external HD that is mounted. However, in the past I was able to check a box for all mounted/connected servers/HDs, and then do a search in all of them at the same time. I CAN'T FIND THIS OPTION IN LEOPARD AND IT IS ANNOYING ME BIG TIME.
    Hopefully there is a simple solution that I've overlooked.
    Please help!

  • How to improve the speed for backing up files to time capsule via in hose wifi?

    How to improve the speed for backing up files to time capsule via in hose wifi?

    via in hose wifi?
    Use a bigger hose??
    House??
    Need to spell this out a bit more..
    But speed via 2.4ghz to the TC is restricted by Apple to max 130mbps link speed.. much slower actual transfer.. latest TC and laptops can do 450mbps on 5ghz but you need to be up close.. so place the TC near the device using it.. and force 5ghz connection by using a different name for 5ghz network.

  • HT201250 Can i store my files on time capsule from my ipad, and copy them back, without using itunes to sync the tablet?

    Can i store my files on time capsule from my ipad, and copy them back, without using itunes to sync the tablet? i want to buy an iPad Air and to forget my laptop and i think that even the 128 gb wont be enough some times. I am wandering if time capsule can be used as external hdd and to connect on it via wifi ...

    No. You cannot access your Time Capsule directly from an iOS device. The only way to back up an iOS device is to a computer through iTunes or to iCloud, though in some cases you can open and save files via another cloud-based service such as Dropbox.
    Regards.

  • How can I view the files on my Time Capsule without using Time Machine?

    In the past Time Machine was backing up to a regular external disc and I could view the files easily. I'm new to the Time Capsule and not sure this is possible as I can't "find" the Time Capsule disc.
    Thanks for any tips

    The Time Capsule's drive appears as a network drive, so it doesn't show up as an external drive.
    To access to it, first make sure you are connected to the Time Capsule. Then, open a Finder window and you will see the Time Capsule's drive in the sidebar, under "Shared". Select it and you will be able to access to the files stored in the Time Capsule

  • How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs

    How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

    How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
    The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
    Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
    Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
    Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
    Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
    We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
    Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
    As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."

  • Can't copy files to time capsule

    I need some help with my new 2TB Time Capsule.  I setup the time capsule and did my first time machine backup.  Now I want to copy over additional files to time capsule from my full hard drive on my iMac. When I drag files over the following message occurs "The item “FILE NAME” can’t be moved because “Time Capsule” can’t be modified."
    I went into my aiport utilities -- opened up my time capsule -- went to disks -- clicked file sharing -- and the enabled file sharing box is checked.
    Help! How do I move files to my time capsule.
    Thanks in advance

    From post above: "Now I want to copy over additional files to time capsule from my full hard drive on my iMac"
    I'm sorry for the confusion.  My device is called "Time Capsule" --- How do I remedy the error I am receiving?
    "The item “FILE NAME” can’t be moved because “Time Capsule” can’t be modified."
    This error occurs when I am drag a document from my iMac hard drive to my time capsule (which technically has another name).

  • How to restore mail files from Time Capsule onto a different machine?

    My Macbook Pro hard drive crashed, and I want to restore my backed-up mail files from Time Capsule onto my Desktop Mac (iMac 27").  When I try to restore by opening Time Capsule with Mail already open, I can only see the current mail files on the iMac (not the backed up files on the MacBook Pro), even when I point to the MacBook Pro backup file.

    Hello there, AngryMario.

  • How to browse files in time capsule from outstate?

    how to browse files in time capsule from outstate?

    I presume by outstate you mean remote access ie from internet in a different location??
    If so google for remote access time capsule.
    It is simple if you have TC setup as the main router and a static public IP.
    Just go to finder, go, go to server and type in AFP://IPofTC
    The TC has to be checked to allow wan access and use a decent password as the security for AFP is poor.

  • How to search for files using wildcards * and ?.

    Hi All,
    I've been searching the forum for a couple of hours now and have been unable to find a good example of how to search a directory (Windows OS) for a file using wildcards * and/or ?. Does anyone out there have a good example that they can share with me?
    Thanks

    Hi All,
    First of all I want to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to my question. All of your responses where greatly appreciated.
    I took the example code that was posted by rkconner, thanks rkconner, and modified it to allow me to search for files in a directory that contain * and/or ?. Yes, I said and/or! Meaning that you can use them both in the same file name, example: r??d*.t* would find readme.txt.
    I've posed my complete and thoroughly document code below. I hope it is very helpful to other as I have searched many forums and spent many hours today trying to resolve this problem.
    Enjoy
    * File Name: WildcardSearch.java
    * Date: Jan 9, 2004
    * This class will search all files in a directory using the
    * asterisk (*) and/or question mark (?) as wildcards which may be
    * used together in the same file name.  A File [] is returned containing
    * an array of all files found that match the wildcard specifications.
    * Command line example:
    * c:\>java WildcardSearch c:\windows s??t*.ini
    * New sWild: s.{1}.{1}t.*.ini
    * system.ini
    * Command line break down: Java Program = java WildcardSearch
    *                          Search Directory (arg[0]) = C:\Windows
    *                          Files To Search (arg[1]) = s??t*.ini
    * Note:  Some commands will not work from the command line for arg[1]
    *        such as *.*, however, this will work if you if it is passed
    *        within Java (hard coded)
    * @author kmportner
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.FilenameFilter;
    public class WildcardSearch
         private static String sWild = "";
          * @param args - arg[0] = directory to search, arg[1] = wildcard name
         public static void main(String[] args)
              String sExtDir = args[0]; // directory to search
              sWild = args[1];   // wild card to use - example: s??t*.ini
              sWild = replaceWildcards(sWild);
              System.out.println("New sWild: " + sWild);
              File fileDir = new File(sExtDir);
              File[] arrFile = fileDir.listFiles(new FilenameFilter()
                   public boolean accept(File dir, String name)

              for (int i = 0; i < arrFile.length; ++i)
                   System.out.println(arrFile.getName());
         }     // end main
         * Checks for * and ? in the wildcard variable and replaces them correct
         * pattern characters.
         * @param wild - Wildcard name containing * and ?
         * @return - String containing modified wildcard name
         private static String replaceWildcards(String wild)
              StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
              char [] chars = wild.toCharArray();
              for (int i = 0; i < chars.length; ++i)

                        buffer.append(".{1}");
                   else
                        buffer.append(chars[i]);
