Searching for Hidden Photos

Hello,
I have hidden photos sprinkled throughout my library. Is there a way to search for them, based on the 'hidden' criteria, so I can move them all into a 'Hidden' folder?
Thanks.

Photo albums are not searched by Spotlight Search.  Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search to see and reorder the available search items.

  • PSE10 Crashes when searching for duplicate photos

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to PSE10 and imported my catalog from a different machine (which had been running XP).  Unfortunately, I ended up with a bunch of duplicate entries in the catalog, one with the path c:\users\... the other with c:\my documents\...  These paths both point to the same image on the hard drive.
When I try to Search for Duplicate Photos (from Find>By Visual Searches), PSE invariably crashes.  I am running PSE10 under Windows 7 (full system info at the end of this message).
Any idea why this might be happening, and is there a different way I can remove the duplicate entries in the catalog?
    Thanks,
    Chris

If I understand well, what you are calling 'duplicates' are duplicate entries in the catalog, the same media being called either by its original path+filename or shortcut path+filename.
The organizer will try open two different files to compare them, but when trying to open the second 'shortcut', the file will be already blocked (in use). That could explain the failure of the comparison for similarity.
Try creating a new catalog with similar images, for instance jpegs and png copies. Does the visual search work ?
About backup and restore : If my supposition is right, that should work if you try to restore to a new custom location with keeping the file structure : the backup should create real file duplicates on different paths. If it works, finding visual duplicate should work, although this process may take a very long time.

  • How can I search for duplicate photos in iPhoto libraries?

How can I search for duplicate photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 library.  Installed on iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Mavericks 10.9.5.

These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • Searching for files (Photos) using Finder

I hope someone can help me!!!
I have just upgrade to iLife 06 from iLife 04. Previously when searching for files to open up in Adobe Photoshop I selected 'Pictures' within the finder menu and followed the dates until I found the correct file No. For some reason since installing iPhoto 06, everything is stored in Roll No's. Could someone please let me know how I can search the files within iPhoto, through Finder, to find the correct file by date - as in the date the photo was taken?
    Cheers

    Hi snurge,
Everyone complained about how iPhoto stored it's images in iPhoto 5 so I guessed they changed it to the roll system.
Open iPhoto and change the title of your rolls to something that is more relevant to what is in the roll.
I have my rolls dated with a couple of words in the name, such as
    "1/24/06 Fire pit"
Once you change the title of the roll in iPhoto, it will also change in the Finder.
This should help you a lot.
If you want the edited version of a photo, look for the roll in the Modified folder.
If you want the Original version of a photo, look for the roll in the Originals folder.
Also, set up PhotoShop in iPhoto 6 preferences to be your external editor.
    Preferences>General
Edit Photo>scroll to last option and navigate to PS to choose it to open.
Now you can control click on an image in iPhoto and scroll to any of the menu choices to edit your photo.
You must however "save" the image with the same name and it must be flattened. The edit will then be reflected within iPhoto.

  • Search for untagged photos.

Is it possible to search for images with faces I haven't yet tagged, and images that I haven't added places-information for?

Not directly. However you can go to the Faces mode, select all faces and hit the Smart Album button. In the resulting smart album assign a keyword to all photos like "faces". Then create a smart album whose criteria is Keyword is not "faces". Then as you assign new faces to the photos you'll need to go back to the smart album for faces, select all and reassign the "faces" keyword. I know what you're thinking but until Apple provides a new feature that's what we're saddled with.
Be sure to request that new feature via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • Searching for hidden files

How do I include hidden files in a search result?

    Also directed to OP:
You can get fancy by running the game to be sure the file is updated and then in a terminal, using the find command to locate all files changed within "n" minutes of starting find.
    For example:
find . -mtime 0 # find files modified between now and 1 day ago
    # (i.e., within the past 24 hours)
find . -mtime -1 # find files modified less than 1 day ago
    # (i.e., within the past 24 hours, as before)
find . -mtime 1 # find files modified between 24 and 48 hours ago
find . -mtime +1 # find files modified more than 48 hours ago
find . -mmin +5 -mmin -10 # find files modifed between
    # 6 and 9 minutes ago
If you start find from the root / and prefix it with sudo, it should find it.
    Example
    sudo find . whatever
then enter your admin password (it won't show at all) and then hit enter and just wait.

  • How can I move from one hard rive to another to search for my photos?

I have many of my photos on an external hardrive. iPhoto will not let me go to that external hardrive to search. It only shows the photos I have on my laptop. What is an easy way to do this?

Don't know if I would call it "easy" but what you need to do is to create a new iPhoto library on your external drive.
Hold down the option key when starting iPhoto.  You will get a dialog that will let you create a new library. (on you external drive)
Now you can add photos to this library as usual.
To switch between libraries hold down the option key when starting iPhoto and select which library you want.
If your still confused you may want to post aditional questions on the iPhoto support section.

  • Help, I need to search for duplicate photos in my external hard drive

Hi Mr. Toad and others who have been answering questions in these forums:
Thank you very much for all your help so far. I have been using a mac for the last few years and LOVE IT! I was wondering if I could pick your brain for a moment. I have backed up my iphoto library onto my external hard drive...a few times...once or twice before I really knew what I was doing. There are a couple of folders that I fear have duplicates and I wasn't diligent about naming pics after having a baby (and now I know the errors of my ways). Now I have lots of folders like 01, 02, 03, etc and within each, there are the different days of the month. So, my question to you is do you know of a program that can seek on my external hard drive and show me duplicates and ask me if I want to remove them? I am trying a program right now called DupeGuru, but it has been running for abot 6 hours already and is only 1/4 done!!! It isn't even showing me that it's found any dupes yet. I've looked at iphoto diet and duplicate annihilator and both seem to only work with iphoto.
I really need an application or workflow to search my iomega 80g usb drive. if you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. My brain hurts trying to figure all of this out. Thanks again for your help!!!
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

well PhillyPhan, I can't tell that you're better looking just by your iphoto icon, now can I? Although it is a lovely sunset you've got there.
Thanks for your response to my question, I see your point and will do that, however, I have another folder that was created before I had a Mac, which has all sorts of lovely titles and labels and some of those pictures I brought over to my ibook when I first started. So there are some duplicates in my iphoto library that I already have backed up in that other folder. I guess I shouldn't really obsess about those. I guess I am just nervous about deleting all my prior iphoto library, but I should have faith that it will all be there in my pictures library. Just trying to clean up the virtual mess.
I'll hold my breath and take the plunge.
    Thanks!

  • Searching for my photos!

My pc was recently hacked and reset. I have reinstalled iTunes and all of my music is in the cloud. Which is great. But, I'm curious if maybe my photos from my phone (3 yrs worth) might be saved somewhere? I'm not a very computer savvy person but am so sad my photos are gone. When I plug in my phone to back up etc is it possible my photos went somewhere? Is there a special photo cloud?!!

I'm very sorry to hear your news
Of course, if you still have these photos on your phone you can transfer back to your PC, but if you have deleted them from your phone, your PC has been erased and you don't have any backups of your PC I am afraid you are probably out of luck. The last 30 days of photos are available in your Photo Stream, but that is, I understand, trivial compared to 3 years.

  • Searching for paticular photos in the organizer

Most of my tags are people and places. So today I wanted to find find the pictures that included the people tag 'me' and the place tag 'school'. I clicked the boxes next to these two tags, but instead of showing me only the photos that fit into both these categories it showed me all of the photos from each category, with tick or no-entry sign to say if the matched. Is there a way to view only the complete matches so its just photos that fit into both the tags.
    Thankyou

  • Can you search for more than one person in a photo

Let's say you named all the faces in iphoto and now you want to search for a photo that contains two particular people, for example I want iphoto to find all the pictures that have Bob and Mary in that shot.
Is there a way to do this. I tried and it finds Bobs and Mary's pictures but not the ones where they are together? Maybe there is a way by writing Bob + Mary and then iphoto will find all those pictures?
    Thanks

It will work with any of the smart album criteria - file menu ==> new smart album
The easiest way to see is to take a look at what is available there - and make a smart album or two - if you don't like them just drag them to the iPhoto trash and do another one
