  • Why does Safari go into limbo when I try to search for some things?

Why does Safari go into limbo when I try to search for some things? I start to enter something in the search window. I get a drop down with suggestion I choose one and it pops up in my search window but just turns a color and does nothing!
If I quit Safari and bring it back up, then enter the exact same line it's fine. This is just one of the many problems I've been
having with Safari since I installed Yosemite.
Has anyone got any suggestions or is anyone having the same problem. Is there a way to maybe force my MacBook pro to reinstall Safari or possibly all of Yosemite. I seem to be having a lot of problems and judging by the responses I've received (That would be None) I must be the only one having any problem at all withYosemite. Not sure what to do.
Any help or suggestions would be great
         Ron

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I would like to connect a printer that requires OS 10.6 or newer. My MacBook is currently using OS 10.5.8. In searching for a software update, I am told no updates are needed. How can I upgrade my OS to 10.6 or better?

I would like to connect a printer that requires OS 10.6 or newer. My MacBook is currently using OS 10.5.8. In searching for a software update, I am told no updates are needed (and am given no option for updating my OS). How can I upgrade my OS to 10.6 or newer?

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to OSX 10.5 or the .11 added to OSX 10.4..
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was written for Power PC Macs with code added to force it to run on Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion ($19.99) used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion ($19.99) is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.
10.9 Mavericks is pure 64 bit and is a free download from the App store.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks which are downloads only.
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.

    Hello
I would like to know if you can help me to repair a program that was designed in Labview Veer 3.1.1. It is a simple program and we used for the last 12 years. Recently the computer hard disks fail and the backup copy that we had contains an error or is missing a module. The module is a conversion from Centigrade to Fahrenheit.
This will be a one time only and if fits on your agenda please let me know. You could email directly to me at [email protected]

    Hi, Ravi.
Based on your experience, you may want to start working your way to earning an MCSA for Windows Server 2012 R2. It requires you to pass three exams. The first exam you may want to take on is 70-410 which is on install Windows Server 2012.
Here is the MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification title description:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-windows-server-certification.aspx
As you can see, it will require you to pass three exams. Here they are:

  • 1) I pressed Menu\Bookmarks\ShowAllBookmarks to open bookmarks organizer. 2) I pressed Ctrl-F to search for some bookmark(s) (e.g. newspaper domain) and found some. NOW The qustion is "Which folder this/these bookmark(s) are actually located in"?

    Salut!
The scenario is "Find bookmark existed before and recall which bookmarkfolder it is in"
Please note the "folder" is for "bookmarks", NOT a file folder of HDD-filesystem
    1) I pressed Menu\Bookmarks\ShowAllBookmarks to open bookmarks organizer.
    2) I pressed Ctrl-F to search for some bookmark(s) (e.g. newspaper domain) and found some.
NOW The qustion is "Which folder this/these bookmark(s) are actually located in"?

Hey, guys. Thanks for responding. I really didn't know I was so clueless about this stuff.
I really thought "urxvt" could be used as an alias or, what we called in Debian, an alternative, to the rxvt-unicode-256color command. I guess not? I'm still trying to set up "vi" to be Vim as well, and I'll read more of the Wiki to figure that stuff out with Arch.
So in the tty interface I can start zsh again just fine. That's old news. I removed the TERM setting and placed the resource in my .Xresources that derhamster said. Thanks.
I also replaced the line in my Openbox rc.xml and menu.xml for terminal opening commands (can I use $TERM for those?)
Now when I start Xorg (with Openbox running) I tried both urxvt-unicode-256color and urxvt but none of them work with Openbox. No terminal emulator pops up and no errors show that I can see.

I am looking for a software to help me write in Ethiopic (Amharic) fonts the same way I use Tavultesoft Keyman in Windows. Can someone help?

Try putting Summer Institute for Linguistics into Google and see if they have an Amharic font for you.
Or just click on the url I provided earlier, which has a link to the exact SIL page.
OS X already has an Amharic font, Kefa.  What you really need from SIL is the keyboard.

  • Searching for Mac Software

Is there a way to search for Mac software at http://www.apple.com/downloads/?
    Thanks.

Thanks, Michael, for your response. I was actually looking for a way to search for apps by subject, kind of like how App Store works for iPhone apps. For instance, if I type in 'mail' in the Search box in the iPhone Apps Store it will search for all apps in the mail category. The search box for apps at apple.com does not appear to work like that. Is there a way to search for Mac apps in a particular category?
    Thanks!

  • My Macbook air is running slow and adware pop up eveytime I search for somthing online. Help!

For the past week my Macbook air has been running slow and the are ads that pop up with everything I search for through firefox. I even try and open netflix on my laptop and an adware pop up comes up with it. There are many different pop ups but the one that follows is the one that pops up most. One day it is Mac OS browser warning the next day it is windows browser warning. Do I call the number on the pop up, it says I have a virus or is it a scam? help me, I don't know what to do.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Safari can't open del.icio.us, for some reason. Help!

This is probably something quite obvious, but I'm all out of ideas, so hopefully you can help! I also hope it hasn't been asked before, though I've searched previous topics...
For some reason, Safari displays the 'Failed to open' page whenever I visit http://del.icio.us. "The server unexpectedly dropped the connection, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy," it says. "You might be able to open the page later."
I've tried later, I've cleared my cache, I've tried it on another browser and even on a Windows machine. Might there be something with my network, perhaps my IP address or - and I'm getting into areas I don't know much about - something about my DNS settings that are preventing me from seeing this particularly website?
I really hope someone can help - all my bookmarks are stored at del.icio.us!
    Many, many thanks, in advance,
    San

    Hello my friend!!!
Well i don't know yet. I read in some other posts that safari has problems in some specific web links. Till now safari is running tranquil and "cozy" i can say but let's hope that it was a myspace problem, cause i own a music booking agency company and the internet is my most important tool for my work and promotion.
If the safari is making that problems then i suggest to Apple that they should try the application's reliability first before giving them for public usage.
Hope that the updates in the future will fix some "small" problems of the OS X Snow Leopard.
    With respect,
    Panos

  • Ways of searching for new software

    Hi everyone!
In the last 2 years that I've used Linux I've come across quite a couple of programs & tools to either replace the software that I used before with Window$ and/or to expand my freedom and productivity with tools which I had never thought of being in existence before.
But it has taken me a long way to find all these nifty programs and so I would like to know how everyone else finds new software, may it be by searching for tools to do a particular job or to frequently visit sites where (new) software is mentioned/compared/reviewed/etc.
In my case I have used the following resources up until now:
    - reading the Newest Ebuilds RSS feed from Gentoo (an old habit of mine , but still helpful)
    - searching through the pacman repository with psearch (back in the old days the same with portage/eix)
    - reading the RSS feeds of the official arch repositories and the AUR
    - sometimes taking a tour through the AUR looking for cool packages (to adopt )
    - reading the RSS feeds of Newsforge (not many programs, but often with a nice review)
    - taking a look at Wikipedia (e.g. (list|comparison) of (email clients|jabber client software|media players|etc.) )
    - frequently visiting www.happypenguin.org (only games, but they're software, too )

I only go "after" software/tools if I need them, so my approach has been always to use:
    1. google
    2. RSS resources
    3. pacman Ss
    and so far so good.
In the event I cannot find one that works for me ... then I'll code it. ;-)

  • I didn't set any password during setup of Lion, but now when I want to download stuff from safari, it asks me for password? plz help

I bought a new macbook air pre loaded with Lion. while setting up the system, I just input the user name, and didn't set any password.
But now when I wanna download stuff off safari, it asks me for password. The user name appears (the same one which I set) but it keeps on asking me the password which I never set. Can some one please help me. Thanks!

I did it like that, but for the purpose of not having to type my password every time since I'm installing a lot of programs, and yes, it asks for the password, but do not type anything and just click "ok" or "install", since you haven't set a password it should let you go through. I guess it asks for the "password" just to let you know it will install something, but just click ok.
I will set up a password once i have install everything in System Preferences/Users & Groups
    Hope it helps...
