Searching for songs using v1.2

I just got v1.2 iPod software and I saw the Special Keynote video on Quicktime. Jobs mentioned the ability to search for a song inside the iPod while using it. How do you do that?

Just an FYI... the 5.5 designation is not officially used by Apple.
That is a classifaction made up by the user base and could potentially cause some confusion.
Apple designates the new 5th Gen iPod models as (Late 2006), not 5.5.

  • Music Player continuously searching for songs and ...

    I have a N97 running firmware v.21.0.045 and about a week or so ago I was forced to do the hard reset because the phone became so unstable. I left my E: drive (the mass storage) intact including all of my songs, videos and pictures I had stored.
    Everything seems to be okay apart from the Music Player which everytime I use it it starts to search for songs and podcasts continuously. I can stop that and it lists all of my music and can play them but the volume control does not work, either from the telephone or the earpiece supplied.
    I have tried leaving it searching for hours but nothing changes - it just keeps on searching. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this please or does it mean I have to do another reset of the telephone? It all worked before.
    I have tried taking the battery out but this makes no difference.

    This is the solution
    ok i found the solution here by deleting the corrupted library
    http://portablevideo.blogspot.com/2008/12/music-player-database-problems.html
    now one of these below is for the music and one for the photos and i didnt have a problem with the photos but did it anyways and now the player can see my music:
    these are the files that need deleting in order to get rid of the corrupted library.

  • Searching for song in library and getting a runtime error...?

    So, right after downloading the new iTunes... I had no problems at all.
    I would go through, search for songs in the search bar for my library, and again, no problems.
    No matter what I searched for it worked... Unless I searched for a song with the letter A.
    Every other letter works no problem.
    I put the first letter in the search bar, no matter the letter, and immediately start getting results.
    ... The second I put the letter A in the search bar... it freezes for a sec, then gives me a runtime error and closes.
    I would really super appreciate any help with this. Or atleast to know I'm not the only one with this problem or similar problem(s)...

    Okay... Are they still working on this new iTunes...?
    Because now I have a new problem.
    In the library, only purchased songs are showing up. And other songs I have, like say the ones I have on my ipod now that I got from my cds, aren't showing up in the library at all.
    They're on my ipod... When you go under the ipod and go under 'On this ipod', they're all there...
    But they only show up there.
    I can't listen to em' on itunes. And I can't seem to get them over into my library...
    Is there anyway to fix this, without having to manually go through and add them all over again...
    I REALLY could use the help with this...

  • Search for images using Keywords Problem.

    1) In LR4, Search for images using Keywords (click on arrow next to Keyword).
    2) Select image, export to PS6, save as Tif.
    3) Tif retains all Keywords when it appears in LR
    4) Despite that, image does not show up in the same 'Search for images using Keywords'.
    Can anyone help with this, it is frustrating me!

  • How to Modify Search for Leads using Date types in the Assgmnt Block Date

    Hello Experts,
    I have a requirement to modify the search for Leads using Dates in the Assignment Block Dates and using the Posting Date of the transaction.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance,
    Justin

    If you look at the grants, you'll see that there are over 170 objects from the FLOWS_030000 granted to PUBLIC:
    SQL> select count(*) from dba_tab_privs where owner= 'FLOWS_030000' and grantee = 'PUBLIC';
    173
    If we were go grant these privileges to a role, called APEX_APP_RU, and grant this role to APEX_PUBLIC_USER and any schemas an application is linked to (Workspace to Schema), would that be a workable solution?
    The only problem I see right off hand that this might not work is that PUBLIC has synonyms created for the FLOWS_030000 objects. If we revoke the underlying privileges, because of the synonyms, this might not work.
    SQL> select COUNT(*) from dba_synonyms where table_owner = 'FLOWS_030000' and owner = 'PUBLIC';
    176
    Does anyone else have any ideas?

  • Problems searching for songs on iTunes

    Everytime I try to search for songs on iTunes, it only allows me to type one letter and then it says searching for iTunes.

    Going to iTunes > Store > De-Authorize Computer > Authorize Computer worked for me and others.  Give it a try!

  • I want to be able to search for songs the way I could before itunes 11

    Please tell me there is a way to switch the search feature back to the original before this update. I hate the fact that my search comes up with albums and artists etc when all I want to do is search for a song and have it show up in the list form. I liked that when you typed in the name of a song, you would get a list of the songs as you were typing it and could just click through your library. Now its complicated. Please, is there a way to fix this?

    I want to add something to be a little clearer. I know that you can select from the search window what options to search for (artist, album, etc). What I don't like is when you search, the main library window just sits there. Why wont the songs appear in the main library? I dont want to have to click on the song in the search window. If I am searching for a song called diamonds, then while I am typing in the name I want all the songs that have all those letters to show up just like in the older version of itunes. Like if I typed the first letter D, all songs with d would show up in the main library window. Then I would have Di, all the songs with Di. Diamo, then all the songs with Diamo in its title would show up. Why wont this work now? Its really ruining my experience as it was so useful the way it used to work.

  • Spotlight Searching for Song Will Cancel Shuffle.

    Before the update, I could use spotlight to find a song, and it would just find the song within the shuffle. For example, if there was 10 songs, searching for a song would bring me to song 5 of 10. However now, after the update, it will find ONLY that song. So that on the iPod app, it will just say 1 of 1. When the song ends I have to manually start the shuffle over. Similarly, picking another song within the iPod app will restart the shuffle. It literally makes the iPod app useless for me.

    i have this problema too
    Iphone 3GS, ios 4.2.1
    already restore and didnt work
    I constantly use spotlight to play specific songs and normally it would continue with the shuffle playlist and now it's useless. I already restore the phone but it didint fix!
    any help?

  • Searching for song, brings you to location in library

    I just upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2, and am most distraught over what I've found. When I search for a song and click play (while still in the "search" view, that is, only the songs that satisfy the search parameters are shown), and then x out of the search. A couple versions ago, closing the search would bring me right to the song highlighted or playing. More recently, closing the search brings me back to the top of my library, regardless of where the song being played is. I used to be able to hit the space bar twice to pause then play, and I would be brought to the song. Now even that does not work. Is there any way to restore this feature??? i can't even tell you how heavily i rely on this.

  • How do I search for songs and artists within playlists?

    In the Itunes music app on the Ipod touch there are several views (Songs, Playlists, Genius, Artists, etc.) In song view if you swipe down it reveals the search bar. However when you go to Playlist view and choose a specific playlist there is no search bar or option anywhere to search for a specific song, artist, genre etc.
    So how the heck do we search within playlists, where is the search bar or where is the option to search in a specific playlist?

    Top right hand corner of the store is the search bar. Just type it in, and it shows up.

  • How to search for files using wildcards * and ?.

    Hi All,
    I've been searching the forum for a couple of hours now and have been unable to find a good example of how to search a directory (Windows OS) for a file using wildcards * and/or ?. Does anyone out there have a good example that they can share with me?
    Thanks

    Hi All,
    First of all I want to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to my question. All of your responses where greatly appreciated.
    I took the example code that was posted by rkconner, thanks rkconner, and modified it to allow me to search for files in a directory that contain * and/or ?. Yes, I said and/or! Meaning that you can use them both in the same file name, example: r??d*.t* would find readme.txt.
    I've posed my complete and thoroughly document code below. I hope it is very helpful to other as I have searched many forums and spent many hours today trying to resolve this problem.
    Enjoy
    * File Name: WildcardSearch.java
    * Date: Jan 9, 2004
    * This class will search all files in a directory using the
    * asterisk (*) and/or question mark (?) as wildcards which may be
    * used together in the same file name.  A File [] is returned containing
    * an array of all files found that match the wildcard specifications.
    * Command line example:
    * c:\>java WildcardSearch c:\windows s??t*.ini
    * New sWild: s.{1}.{1}t.*.ini
    * system.ini
    * Command line break down: Java Program = java WildcardSearch
    *                          Search Directory (arg[0]) = C:\Windows
    *                          Files To Search (arg[1]) = s??t*.ini
    * Note:  Some commands will not work from the command line for arg[1]
    *        such as *.*, however, this will work if you if it is passed
    *        within Java (hard coded)
    * @author kmportner
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.FilenameFilter;
    public class WildcardSearch
         private static String sWild = "";
          * @param args - arg[0] = directory to search, arg[1] = wildcard name
         public static void main(String[] args)
              String sExtDir = args[0]; // directory to search
              sWild = args[1];   // wild card to use - example: s??t*.ini
              sWild = replaceWildcards(sWild);
              System.out.println("New sWild: " + sWild);
              File fileDir = new File(sExtDir);
              File[] arrFile = fileDir.listFiles(new FilenameFilter()
                   public boolean accept(File dir, String name)
                        return (name.toLowerCase().matches(sWild));
              for (int i = 0; i < arrFile.length; ++i)
                   System.out.println(arrFile.getName());
         }     // end main
         * Checks for * and ? in the wildcard variable and replaces them correct
         * pattern characters.
         * @param wild - Wildcard name containing * and ?
         * @return - String containing modified wildcard name
         private static String replaceWildcards(String wild)
              StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
              char [] chars = wild.toCharArray();
              for (int i = 0; i < chars.length; ++i)
                   if (chars[i] == '*')
                        buffer.append(".*");
                   else if (chars[i] == '?')
                        buffer.append(".{1}");
                   else
                        buffer.append(chars[i]);
              return buffer.toString();

  • Search for song in a playlist

    Hi all,
    As I have created a number of playlists I am having difficulty trying to find a song in a playlist.
    This way I can avoid duplicating songs in playlists or know if I have created a cd with a particular song.
    Does anyone know how I can search for a song in a playlist?
    Every time I conduct a search it seems to only be looking through my itunes library and not playlists.
    Any help or info would be great!

    Hi cheekyage,
    Since there is no way to assign a "Playlist" to a specific piece of music, there is no way to find it specifically by "playlist". However, I have a suggestion that may be of help:
    If you don't have a million songs already in Playlists, then if you go into each song that is currently assigned to a particular playlist, and assign a "playlist" tag that is sortable to it, then it will accomplish the same thing:
    1.     Click on one of your Playlists and then click Edit at the top of the screen and click on Select All. Then click Command+I to Get Info on the group in that Playlist. You will get a dialogue box asking you if you want to edit information for multiple items - click on "Yes".
    2.     On the Info tab, you will see a "Grouping" box.
    3.     In the Grouping box type in the name of your Playlist
    4.     Then click on OK
    5.     Click on the screen to de-select the songs
    6.     Click on View  at the top of the screen and click on View Options
    7.     In the "Personal" section click on Grouping to select it then close the View Options window
    8.     In the top right-hand side of the Music display screen, you will see a little dropdown where you can change your display view. Change it to "List"
    9.     You should now see your Grouping column with your playlist name next to the songs in that Playlist
    Repeat steps 1-5 until you have assigned a Playlist names to all of the songs that are in a Playlist
    Once you are done, you will be able to see if a song has a Playlist name already assigned to it when you do a search.
    Hope this helps!
    Post back with any questions!
    Cheers,
    GB
