Searching iTunes stops music playback

I'm on a Mac running OS X Lion.   Occaionally (frequently) when I'm listening to a music stream, like from di.fm, I will go to iTunes Store and search for the song to purchase.   What I'm finding is that more often than not, this action causes the playback stream to stop.  I have to go back and re-start it again.
This was *not* happening previously, in perhaps that last 2 versions that I can recall.
Has anyone else noticed this?   It seems more like a bug than anything.   I did leave feedback on the iTunes page, but who knows if it will get addressed.

As a note, my hard drive crashed and was replaced.  I am still having the playback issues.  Can't anyone suggest anything that will help?

  • ITunes stops during playback and won't start until I restart the computer

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I just reformated my computer and placed all the updates and programs back onto my computer. I had iTunes on my computer before and I reinstalled it then upgraded it to version 7.3.2.6. Now I've been reintroducing music back into the library on a folder by folder method (drag and drop). Anyway, during review of the songs I will get a random issue where the iTunes just stops during playback. I have shut down the program and restarted it. I've also shut down the following programs at different times to see if it would help:
iPodService, ITunes.exe (the program), iTunesHelper, and even taskmgr.exe. Nothing seems to help. When I restart the program I click on play (any song or playlist) and nothing happens. The only thing that I have found to help is rebooting my computer. Does anyone have any ideas?
I've check the event logs and nothing is showing in there and other programs are working without an issues.
    Please help!

Any suggestions on what this can be?

  • Video recording stops music playback

When I have music being played, if I open camera app - it still works, but as soon as I flip the camera into video mode - playback stops. Is there any way to fix it?

I think the Apple engineers though you'd play the music via the speaker, hence they don't allow this. Or, the same audio circuitry is used for recording / playing (e.g. amplifying) and this is why the two operations are exclusive.

  • IPhone 4S screen auto lock not working with Music Playback, while connected to the Computer via USB

    Hello Everyone,
I have an iPhone 4S, updated to the latest version of iOS (7.1). Recently, I noticed that my iPhone's screen doesn't autolock automatically whenever it's connected via the sync cable to my Laptop Computer (A Dell Studio running Windows 8.1 Pro). This happens regardless of whether iTunes is running or not. Whenever the music playback is on, the screen just gets dimmed after a while (as it always does before the screen auto-lock triggers), and stays like that. However, when I stop music playback, the auto-lock work just fine.
I want to know, is this normal? I mean, is this the way it's supposed to be?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rajat S.

ALSO, iTunes has been updated to iOS 12.0.1.

  • Skipping/Stuttering on music playback

Since upgrading to iTunes 6, music playback has become completely unusable -- everything I play stutters or skips repepepepeeatedly. I've set Quicktime to safe, checked my drivers, defragged by disk, all to no effect. I don't want to abandon iTunes for playback (not least because it will take hours to change all the .AAC files to .MP3, and I'll lose everything I've bought from the music store). How do I fix this -- failing all else, is it possible to go back to version 5, which worked fine?

I've managed to solve this by winding down the
"Sample Rate Conversion Quality" under "Advanced
Audio Properties" (Control Panel | Sounds and Audio
Device Settings | Volume | Advanced) to its lowest
setting ("Good"!). I don't know what that actually
does, but the audio quality still seems fine to me,
    and no stuttering.
What that actually does is force KMixer to use linear interpolation in its resampling instead of high-end multipoint interpolation.
If you don't get that, then what it does on most machines is to make the audio sound like total crap.
Hey, if it works for you, then it works for you, but I would only consider this to be a last resort. The fact that this actually worked for you tends to indicate that you either have a crap soundcard, or that you have crap drivers for your crap soundcard. Updating your audio drivers might be beneficial, and replacing the soundcard with one that doesn't require KMixer to resample normal 44.1khz input would definitely be beneficial.

  • Total static with music playback since 7.6?

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem?
I installed the x64 version of 7.6 when it became available and now all I get is massive amounts of static type noise on playback with iTunes.
Music playback is fine with other apps such aas Media player etc...
    Any ideas?

  • How to get around the stop in playback associated with search?

Why does the search function stop playback? If you are listening to an album by one artist and want to search for music by another artist, say, to load onto an iPod, playback of audio will stop after the last track to by the first artist ends. It doesn't switch to a track in the artist you searched for's catalog, it just entirely stops.
This is highly annoying. Is there a way to tell Itunes to just keep playing when searching for other music? I would prefer to have it keep playing songs by the first artist selected, but if there's only a way to make it jump to whichever one a search is performed, that's fine too.

Not really, though I suppose you can always clear the search box before the current track comes to an end if you notice. This one trips me up from time to time too. I generally try to play tracks from the Music source and use other playlists for maintenance.

What is causing and how do you fix a song stopping during playback? I have latest iTunes 12.0.1 and Yosemite 10.10.1.
It stops then after several seconds (like 25 secs) then it starts again ... and then several seconds later it stops again!
I have the latest software so I don't know what to do?

  • Cannot delete composer field in iTunes - so cannot use it to search my classical music collection !

To search my classical music collection easily within iTunes, I delete the composer field for all non-classical music.  This works nicely on my Mac and on my old iPod.  However, when I sync with my newish iPhone and iPad - the composer is still listed !  I chatted to Apple support and they said this was known behaviour and not a bug.
The failure for a composer deletion to sync, means that I cannot easily search my classical music - instead I have to wade through millions of non-classical composers in my collection (I search the non-classical music by using the artist field).
I think others have had this problem judging by other fora.  I wondered if anyone knows of a sneaky fix, or whether Apple intend to correct this problem - which I'm guessing is alienating anyone who has sizeable classical music collection !
    Thanks !

I have exactly the same issue.  First for me the issue is only related to songs purchased on iTunes.  Second the field is updated as long as I put something there.  But as soon as I delete it completely (and the same behaviour I have with other fields like track number) iPhone picks up original value.  My guess is that for any blank filed it tries to get the value from iTunes store.  It is extremely annoying as I also use composer filed for classical music only.  The only solution to that problem is stop buying from iTunes store.

  • ITunes 10 - no way to stop music video, keep song playing?

In an earlier version of iTunes (not sure how old) there was an option to stop music video playback but continue playing the soundtrack, by keeping the video in the "Now Playing" artwork window. Now the only options are to play it in the viewer, in a separate window, the iTunes window, a separate window, full screen or full screen (with visuals) -- but NO option to stop the video altogether.
It doesn't seem like a big deal, but I don't want that video sucking up processing power when all I'm doing is listening to music while working. And I also don't want to cut videos out of my playlists altogether; that's not really a solution at all, just a workaround.
I seem to recall it was pretty easy maybe just clicking on the preview window? Now all that does is open the video in a new window (and closing that window stops the song.
SO -- any thoughts? Or is the option there somewhere and I just haven't found it? Thanks in advance!

Really!? No way to do this? It seems like such a waste. Do I REALLY have to open the videos in Quicktime Pro, export the soundtrack, import that into iTunes, and remove the videos from my playlist? Because that's the only way I can think of to work around this.
But it seems like such a hack.

That is precisely what my mid-2010 MacBoook Pro 13 was doing before the drive finally died after an Apple Genius rebooted it a dozen or so times. I have since read about the exact same thing happening to others, including a writer for The Atlantic magazine who had never had an issue with a Mac before. Do a back-up ASAP to make sure you don't lose anything and see about replacing the HDD. It is only about $140 for a new drive. The real issue is if you lose your data, too. So, make sure you do that back-up!

  • I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extrem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptops hard drive??

I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extreme (2 TB drive plugged into the USB port).  I see the drive on my laptop and I can add and delete files no problem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptop's hard drive?  I don't have enough space to do that.

How did you move the music to the external drive?  What exactly is on the drive?  The entire iTunes folder or only music?  If it is the entire iTunes folder you can do the option+start suggestion earlier.  If you copied only music and did so by dragging it there then you need to delete it again and consolidate/organize it there instead so iTunes tracks the move.  iTunes 12 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

  • I can't search a song or an artist.  i get an error R6025/pure virtual function call. then itunes stops working.  PLEASE HELP

I can't search a song or an artist without getting an error R6025 - pure virtual function call. Then itunes stops working. How do I fix it?  PLEASE HELP

I have had numerous issues with Itunes 64 bit 11.1.38 (and other previous versions) locking up and crashing upon start with "Itunes has stopped working" or "R6027 pure virtual function call".  I have researched the answers around the forums as well as having tried some extensive and repetitious troubleshooting myself and thought I'd list them here... in order of troubleshooting...
    1. Install all Windows updates and reboot.  This seems to clear issues from time-to-time... I suspect Itunes expects the latest-and-greatest as far as Windows is concerned.. see if this clears your issue.
    2. Uninstall all Itunes and Apple products & reboot, remove their directories, remove lingering Itunes registry entries, reboot again, reinstall using "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR" to install the Itunes executable. See if this allows Itunes to stabilize.  Pelase be sure to use the following guide from Apple as far as removing the apps and directories are concerned...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    3. Remove the contents of the "iphone photo cache"  (or other related product photo cache)  directory.
    4. Try editing the shortcut properties and configure the shortcut (for all users) to run as Administrator.
    5. Try editing the shortcut and configure it to run in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 (for all users).
    6. a.Try using MSCONFIG to locate a potential conflicting application or service using the following...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2292
    or
    6. b. Remove the last recent software application(s) you may have installed... in my case removing GREENSHOT http://getgreenshot.org/  stopped my Itunes from crashing on startup and it stabilized after
    driving my nuts for weeks.

  • Problem with iTunes Music Playback

Hi, I like using itunes but im having a problem with the music playback. If i have just itunes running and some background programs i.e. anti-virus playback of music is fine but I want to be able to surf the web, and play my games while listening to music. However when i try to so this the sound becomes muffled, choppy and can skip and slow down all in all its impossible to listen to. I thought this may be a problem with my PC but its not a slow one. I tried Windows Media Player and while browsing the net, playing my games etc playback was perfect. Also ive done everything on this page> http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610 but still had no luck. Now i will use media play if i have to much i much prefer itunes ans it has all my libary sorted out. Any help would be brilliant.
    Thanks
    Mark

Even though you LOVE iTunes, there are many other programs out there that don't require extra software to be installed for it to function....there by freeing up your CPU to run more programs.
I would seriously look into trying something different that doesn't need to hog so much system resources....until they reduce their program's needs.
Try something like Winamp or Musicmatch Jukebox.
You can have your library to show up pretty much the same way that they do in iTunes. You'll just have to read through the user guides to get it exactly the way you want it.
