Searching iTunes U Metadata

Anyone thought of a way to have external search engines get after iTunes U content, particularly on the rich metadata that people are (finally) tagging things with?
Nothing jumps right out at me as enabling this but I thought someone might have been poking around in this area.
Is there such a thing as a brute-force spider indexer that could guess all my subscription feeds given the root URL as a seed? If there was, would it be named after an Arachnophobia character? Are there other avenues of attack?
Thoughts?

Huh, don't know why I didn't think of that. It doesn't quite have everything I had hoped but certainly you get a good deal of the important information, and more than the RSS feeds provide. Thanks, uh, razzledazzle.

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

How to search iTunes by artist & song

Do you have any idea what song you're looking for? Sometimes if you google with some song lyrics or a title or some clue of where you heard the music, you'll be able to find what you're looking for. Once you have any artist, song title, or album name, you'll be able to search the iTunes store to see if the music is available.

I purchased an album from the iTunes store, which is actually 3 albums in 1.
Once downloaded, I set about changing the metadata so that the albums appear as 3 seperate albums under the one artist. All good - until I sync with my iPhone, when (on the iPhone) the metadata reverts to the original iTunes Store metadata and back to 1 album with all the tracks from the 3 albums out of chronological order ie. track 1, 1, 1, track 2, 2, 2 etc...! Grrrr
Have deleted ALL unecessary metadata fields on all tracks, just leaving the genre, the artist name, each album name and turned off any 'compilation' options. No joy and still shows as 1 album on my iPhone.
Any solutions???

ITunes Match keeps resetting my iTunes Library metadata

I would be very grateful if somebody could help me! I have painstakingly gone through all my classical music tracks (all 2000 of them) fixing the metadata. I joined iTuines Match the day it was launched all my songs were already synced to that service.
For example, I want the composers name at the beginning of each song tile:   Beethoven; Symphony No.9
Then I want the composer field to list the composer's name like this: Beethoven, Ludvig van
And I want the performers name (not the composers name) to be in the Artist & Album Artist fields:   Leonard Bernstein, New York Philhamonic
I spent a whole day manually changing them all to the way I want them (and had a great time listening to some awesome music at the same time!).   BUT.... low and behold, iTunes Match seems to have intervened and changed many of them back!! Much of my hard work is gone
I made sure that iTunes Match was already turned off on my other computers before I started, so that does not seem to be the problem...
How can I force iTunes Match to keep my songs named the way I want them named etc?

It sounds like your iPad is not signed into the same itunes STORE account.
Make sure that it is and that the toggle button for show all music is turned on and you should slowly see your music becoming available on your device.
As far as the constant signing in I would say do you have the latest software on your computer?
If you do then I would suggest uninstallling itunes and reinstalling from the apples website.
Sometimes this helps FIX somethings we can't see. You will probably have to sign in once you reinstall but it should just go through the motions and it will not double upload your music. At least it hasn't for me.
When you reinstall itunes your itunes library will not be affected so don't be worried about it messing your library up. At least it never has for me.

ITunes Store Metadata with iTunes 9

How do you get metadata for items in the iTunes Store using iTunes 9?
In iTunes you can select an item and choose Get Info to see all the metadata. This could be done for items that you owned and items in the iTunes store. With iTunes 9 I can no longer get metadata for items in the iTunes store. I used to use this to check movie quality before purchasing, to check song settings to make sure I could get artwork to match what I ripped, etc.

Afaik the iTunes 5.01 installer isn't available by Apple anymore.
But you won't loose your music if you loose your Library files (you will only loose your playlists and ratings ...)
Just launch iTunes
From Menu - File select "Add to library ..." then choose the folder that contains all your music (usually "iTunes Music")
You also might try (not sure if that will work) - again from Menu - File - "Import"; then choose the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file.

Need applescript to search Itunes then prompt for a selection from the results of the search.

Proximity will become available if you're using a index (Tools > Document Processing > Full Text Index with Catalog), which you can create with Acrobat Pro for just this single document if you place it in a folder by itself. You will also have to select "match all words" or whatever the exact wording is in the advanced seach panel.

Search itunes library by account name

i have gathered many songs over the years. often i will get a message saying i can not play a song because i am not authorized.
i woud like to clean the library once and for all.
how can i search or sort by account name or purchased by?

It might be possible, but it's not a simple modification. The script extracts the purchaser's name via a shell script using grep, so to change it so that the playlist is named for the iTunes Store account name, someone would have to be able to figure out how to extract the account name via a grep. That's not something I have yet figured out. You could email Doug and ask if this is something he could consider for a future version:

HT3281 Frustrations with searching iTunes for podcasts

Does anyone actually find the iTunes store search useful and/or intuitive?
1. Why would ANYONE want to search for a keyword across podcasts, albums, songs, apps, itunes U, collections etc etc all at once?? Ok, maybe include that feature for completely clueless individuals who are seriously bored. For myself and surely the vast majority, we know what we're looking for and don't want to be smashed in the face with an abundance of completely inappropriate results.
2. More details are required on the results page. As the medium has been around for so long, and so many podcasters come and go, many podcasts seem to date back to the dawn of time. I don't want to click on a search result only to find out the podcast stopped updating 5 years ago. We should be able to sort by date, filter out dates etc. PODCASTS ARE TOPICAL. Apple created them, how can you not know this?
3. The back button is not a back button. If I click 'see all' (which I shouldn't have to) and click on a result to find out more (which again, shouldn't be required if the display options were any good) only to find out I'm not interested and I want to keep searching, guess what? I click back only to be taken back to that same infuriating display of search results across every type.
I'm guessing the search for music is equally frustrating though I wouldn't know, iTunes is so slow and clunky I avoid using it except where absolutely necessary and buy my music elsewhere.

What is odd is that it was fine several months ago - nothing that I know has been changed on our end (except new audio tracks added to the feed).

Can you search iTunes library in one category - search only artists, etc.?

I am using iTunes 7.5 (19). I want to search through my artist names only, but the search pulls up anything with my keywords in it - song titles, album titles, etc. Is there any option for searching only a single column of information?

DMS Search on individual metadata characterstics.......

Hi,
WE are using DMS connector for KM and acessing documents from SAP content server.
The requirement is to search on individual DMS metadata characterstics but KM offers only one pre-defined property for all the characterstics and while searching the characterstics are being returned in a concatenated string,but i need to search on individual characterstics.
Will modifying the code for DMS connector a recommended solution? What are the other alternatives?.
We are on EP7.0 and ECC5.0..

We faced the same issue. In order to get around this, we developed a custom KM Report that copies the files from DMS, through the connector, to a KM repository. During the copy, the program parses out the characteristics and stores them as seperate KM properties attached to the file. You can then search the files and properties stored in KM.
I would not recommend customizing the DMS connector code. Besides being expressly discouraged by SAP, I have looked at the code and it is very complicated.

How do you search speech analysis metadata?

I'm new to Premiere - I used the Analyze function to create a metadata element of 'Analysis Text' - which is great. How can I search this for keywords.
I have been given about 15 hours of footage and I need to find a few moments where certain things are mentioned. The analysis didn't come back with the most accurate results even though the audio is extremely clear (a speaker on a stage with the microphone as the audio source) but I'm hoping it's good enough to pull out what I need ...
if i can only search!

Very surprised no one else is having this issue. Seems like half the point of speech analysis is then to be able to search the text....

ITunes Runtime Error on searching iTunes Store after latest update - WIndows 7

Hi
Just found a runtime error in iTunes. This is after the latest iTunes update that was installed this morning. The error occurs when I search the iTunes store and click on a result. Never happened before. No erros when playing music etc.
iTunes version: 10.6.3.25
Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1
WOndering if anyone else has had similar erros and whether there is a know solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did not realise it is not possible to edit posts after a certain time (well for newbees) - which in my case was taken up by a "Please wait while we update the site" message from the forum. Well alteast I have managed to include a screenshot of the error below.

Randomly dropped from facebook, google search, itunes store

I posted this in the Airport Express forum but thought there may be someone with the same issues here.
So we have my Imac, a macbook pro, and 2 other macbooks in our place. We run our ADSL off of an Airport Express base station. Everything was working great until we upgraded our imac and macbook Pro to snowlepord. Now we continually get random "not connected to the internet" screens while using facebook, google search, or itunes store, all other computers work fine. We are still connected to the internet and can instantly go to other websites without any problems, so we arn't being dropped from the internet, just these 3.
This is ALSO happening with our IPhones, both 3G and 3GS. No problems with the other macbooks running 10.5.1, or the PC. To add to that, and the reason why I think it's a snowlepord/airport express dual problem, the macbook pro works fine on other wifi networks, so we know it's not strictly a snowlepord issue. If anyone can help we'd appreciate it. Been going on for a solid 2 months now with no fix in site.

Try a different Airport channel.
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X.
Select the device you’re setting up, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu. If that doesn't help, try deleting this file.

Move that file to the Trash and see if the connection is stable.
If nothing above helps, download and install the 10.6.1 combo update.

Repair disk permissions after the installation.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
