Searching keywords list

Hello,
How to make a search with AND criteria in the keyword lit on the Library module, Keyword List section?
If a have keywords like
"ABC DEF"
"ABC DGH"
"ABC EFG"
I would like to search like ABC AND D and have only the first two entries displayed...
Thanks
Yannick

If your keywords actually start "ABC D" then you can filter on keywords and use STARTS WITH.
Alternately you can use a Smart Collection where you can create a multiple step criteria set. KEYWORDS CONTAINS ABC then KEYWORDS CONTAINS D. This still won't be perfect but it should collect all of those images. But some images may still slip in. For example if you have two keywords (continuing your example) "ABC XYZ" and "DOG", that image will be in the Smart Collection because it has both ABC and D contained in its keyword list.

  • In Keyword List panel, need to support quotes for AND'ing multi-word keyword searches

As far as I know (and read around), there's no way to search multi-word keywords in the keywords list panel using the "Filter Keywords" box. i.e. If I want to search for the "Great Blue Heron" keyword in a large animal keywords list I have, Lightroom will OR the three words instead of AND'ing them like Aperture does more intuitively. Adding quotes like "Great Blue Heron" doesn't work either. Again this is to filter a large keyword lists through the "Filter Keywords" box in the Keywords List panel.
Am I missing something? Is it possible to AND multi-word keywords?
    Thanks.

    Rob,
as far as I know spaces are also contained and allowed in controlled vocabularies (e.g. for the "official" names of animals 'little panda' for example and plants). I'm using spaces for names very often. As a prof. photographer I need to write captions for all of my images before sending them to my agency with WHEN/WHAT/WHERE/WHO etc. So when shooting persons very often or regular (e.g. politicians or athletes) I started years ago to create keywords and hierarchies for them. So it is much easier and more comfortable to assign them later.
Please check out PhotoMechanic or IMatch. These progs doesn't have any problems with spaces in keywords and keyword searches...
BTW: when using a space in a search I expect that the default behaviour of such a space is a locical AND.

  • How can I disable awesomebar search/keyword suggestions on FF 3.6?

I am on FF 3.6. I'm trying to find a way to disable the AwesomeBar search/keyword suggestions. I have gone through tools -> options -> privacy -> location bar. I have tried setting the location bar set to show only history, bookmarks, or even none, but it still shows keyword search suggestions. How can I disable this?
I have also tried from about:config, setting maxrichresults to 0. Again, that is not what I'm looking for. I want it to show history and bookmarks, but I do not want keyword search suggestions.

I'm pretty sure the poster doesn't want to disable the keyword search functionality. What they want is for keyword searches to work, but just not be displayed (or at least not displayed as the automatic first option) on the list of location bar suggestions when typing a new URL.
In their words, "I want it to show history and bookmarks, but I do not want keyword search suggestions."
That was how keyword search bookmarks worked in FF3.5, if I recall, and I too would like that behavior back. I haven't found any way to train the awesomebar to not show me keyword search bookmarks.

  • In the dialogue window of "Manage Search Engine List," the "Restore Defautls" button is grayed out!

    Hi,
    I use Firefox 6.0.1 on Windows 7.
I installed '''Free Desktop Clock 2.37''' from Drive Software, and then Firefox was hi-jacked, though I carefully chose the custom installaion.
Edit: Free Desktop Clock itself does not hi-jack Firefox. It's another program (name forgotten) bundled with Free Desktop Clock that did it, adding a toolbar, changing the homepage, changing the default search engine, etc. Actually, those forced alterations can be changed back easily, such as a resetting of the "keyword.url" pref. So, "hi-jack" may be a description that's too strong.
Anyway, I have managed to clean it up -- unsolicited toolbar, forced homepage, forced default search engine, etc.
But there is still one problem.
In the dialogue window of '''Manage Search Engine List''', which appears when you click the drop arrow on the left of the Search Bar and then click Manage Search Engines, the '''Restore Defaults''' button is disabled (grayed out).
How can that button be re-enabled?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Is Free Desktop Clock still listed? If not this may be because the listed search engines are the defaults, so there may be nothing to restore. If you manually added other search engines, you may have to reinstall those separately. • CS4 Bridge short term memory "keyword list"

    Greetings ,
I have a Mac G4 2002 with CS4 11.0.1 and I went through all my photos in one three day period and made keywords for the relevant image selections. I love the way it works. ..... BUT !  if I turn off the machine and later come back and open bridge to quick select my photo criteria for editing, my keyword list defaulted to the bridge example list that came with the system. I looked in Preferences and did not find a selection that seemed relevant.
I hope I am just being stupid, missing something simple like "Save As,  keyword list under name ....?" The keywords are still associated with the picture files. I can get back all of the keywords by spending a few hours and clicking one by one on every image in storage. The list eventually builds itself up to it previous glory. But shut down and you get to do it all over again.
    Thanks for your assistance !

Yes, I do shut my computer down the correct way by going to the apple menu first and using the shut down menu function, more anal than that I close the applications that are open first prior to going to the apple menu.
Thank you for the purge cache suggestions.
I did purge once the cache files and it made no change in behavior.
    On your suggestion :
A:   [ I proceeded by opening some photo folders and clicked on some images so that the list could build up again some ( I only did a few folders ).
Then I closed out of out of the application and the shut down. On booting back the OS and opening the application the list had still shrunk. ]
I then repeated "A" and but on bringing the application back up I used the "Option" key hold down so that I could purge Preference files. Shrunk again!
I tried the "purge cache for folder" option, and then Repeated "A" and the result was the same, shrunken list.
I did learn that I did not need to shut down the computer to loose the keyword list however, it goes away with just the closing of the application option.
I also learned that the list is not completely lost now, it defaults to a shorter list of my own words (at least now it does). That default shrunken list is consistent the last two times on re-starting the application.
I am wondering now if there had been some error made in how a list could be put together. Like did I screw up with hierarchy protocol somehow, or should we restrict our naming to a only a two tier system instead of using a three tier system?
From Bridge the suggestion keywords (ie: Mathew, New York, Paris) don't come up anymore. I don't have those images, but interestingly enough, I don't see those names coming up anymore.
Earlier I did try weeks ago to reload the Photoshop CS4 package onto my computer hoping that would solve this problem. One thing I did not do at that time was use "FIND" to search out where relative preference files might lay and then dump those in the trash prior to re-install. I don't know, maybe I have no option but to try that again but by dumping the preferences prior to install.
Since we did just try the "option key" on start of application, does this fully do the same thing?
    Thanks again for your suggestions!

  • Keyword List editing

Does anyone know of a quick way to edit and re-arrange (such as alphabetize, delete a lot of them at once, etc.) the keyword list in iMovie '09? I spent some time doing that before (when it was considerably less unwieldy) and lost all the changes I made when I had to trash the plist once. Now, before I do it all again, I wanted to check for suggestions.
Also, I often move projects and/or events around to various external hard drives... which loses all the keyword assignments and makes me cry a little
A search didn't turn up much.
    Thanks so much, Deborah

    Bump.
I second the motion. This 'drag and organize' thing gets pretty time consuming. Not to mention the fact that you easily end up with duplicates and near duplicates.

  • How to search keywords by synonym (Lightroom CC)

    Hi
I'm using a hierarchical keywording for animal taxonomy, it is based on the "official" latin names, vernacular names in various languages are included as synonyms.
Is there a way to search for keywords using their synonyms? The search box seems to be limited to only the keyword and does not look for synonyms.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Chris,
Just to clarify what LR does do: When you search by keyword in the Library Filter bar or with a smart collection, LR does search synonyms. However, as you noticed, when you use the Filter Keywords box in the Keyword List panel, synonyms are ignored.  Also, you can't enter a synonym into the Keywording panel (if you try it, LR will silently create a new keyword for you).  It appears that LR 2 had the ability to filter the keyword list by synonyms and use synonyms to apply keywords, but that functionality was removed in LR 3.
Please add your vote and opinion to this topic in the official Adobe feedback forum: Lightroom: Find keyword by synonym
My Any Tag plugin does handle synonyms the way you want, but it was designed for a particular workflow and may not be to your taste.

  • Highlighting hits in search result list?

    Hi folks!
Is it possible to highlight/mark the hits in the search result list like e.g. when I search for "hugo" the result should be displayed as follows:
"This is my best friend Hugo and he is ..."
    Thanx for any hint!
    Regards,
    Volker

    Hi Volker,
I am afraid you have to use the FIND option in the browser to search for the term f.e. "hugo" on the page.
There is an sap internal faq note regarding the CRM 7.0 simple search based on SAP enterprise search
(which I assume u r using) which states
    9.  Does Simple Search support highlighting of search keywords in search
        results?
No, Simple Search does not highlight keywords in found search results.
Instead the search functionality provided by the web browser can be used
to search for the keywords on the search result list or overviewpage of
    a search result.
    Hope this helps.

  • Keyword list system standardizing

Keyword list system in Adobe Bridge CC is different from Lightroom. Lightroom has Synonyms options. When photos export from Lr, Bright will put synonyms keywords into "Other Keywords" list. It will make the Bridge keyword list a mess.
For example. In lightroom, I put "Reach Stacker" at top, "Reachstacker" and "RS" at Synonyms. The Bridge does not recognize the Lr keyword list system. It put them into "Other Keywords" list. Organizing keyword list become difficult.
what I suggest is adobe keyword list system need a standard.

Adobe metadata and keyword searches needs to be fix in a lot of ways. I'm also having trouble searching for keywords throughout a whole drive and not just in one folder.
But as a quick fix you can always make new Keyword list "pull downs" and drag keywords into pull downs to create the same type of filing structure. Once you set it up you shouldn't have to do it again.
    Hope that helps!

  • Keyword list problem: "No photos match the filter"

    LR4.1 64-bit Windows 7
I have  relatively small (1k), and completely flat (non-hierarchical) keyword list.
for a small number of keywords, I have the following problem:
If I open Library, witht the centre panel in Grid View, then select Keyword List from the RHS panel, and select one these "problem" keywords, On the rhs of the screen it shows a number, indicating the number of images to which this keyword is attached.
I then click the arrow next to the number to display the images with this keyword.
the library filter opens in the centre panel of the screen area, dropping down the Keyword filter and correctly highlighting the selected keyword; however against this, the keyword show 0 matches and the message "No photos match the filter" is displayed.
If I right-click on the keyword in the Keyword List  and select delete, the message is displayed that the keyword will be deleted from n photos
Thus I don't  know if there are photos with the keyword which are just not being displayed, or whether there are a number of "phantom" keywords which are not associated with any images.
It may be that I am lacking understanding of some aspect of LR functionality; or that somehow there is an indexing problem within my LR catalogue.
thanks in advance for any help and advice

Thanks, I've been having this trouble in my catalog since LR3, problem is still there in LR4.3.
I used your suggestion to show the offending photos in a smart collection and could finally see the photos to fix all the keywords that way.
Most of mine have come from duplicate keywords that I accidentally created - I have a hierarchy of keywords and some have appearedin two places. So I have been trying to delete the old unwanted ones but have not been able to see the photos when using the filter or the keyword arrow.
My solution was to rename every one of the old dud keywords with a suffix of "XXX" - this also helps me to not use those old keywords again. Then I made a smart collection that simply searches for all keywords containing "XXX". From the collection, I go through the photos and replace the old keywords with the new corrected one. Once the filter shows the count of the number of photos down to 0 as it should be, I can finally delete that old keyword!
I am keeping this new collection (called "XXX Keywords to fix") for when it happens later... This sure sounds like a bug that Adobe needs to sort out.

Using Windows 7 and LR 5,  when I look at the Keyword List a certain keyword has 7 pictures but when I check the Library Filter with that keyword 350 pictures are shown which includes the 7 pictures that have the keyword.  Why does the Library Filter showing pictures that do not match the query

    Dan,
Here's what's going on in the catalog you sent me, "Joel & Caitlin's Wedding".  There is the keyword "gwenn", which is explicitly assigned to 7 pics. But keyword "schwartz" has a number of synonyms, including "gwenn", and it is assigned to 25 pics.  There is no overlap between the two sets of pics.
I discovered these two occurrences by doing Metadata > Export Keywords, opening the exported file in an editor, and then searching for "gwenn".  I found two occurrences of "gwenn":
    gwenn
    schwartz
        {gwenn}
From this, you can see that the keyword "schwartz" has 9 synonyms, of which "gwenn" is one.
The filter criterion "Keywords Contain gwenn" will match the 7 pics that are explicitly assigned the keyword "gwenn", and it will also match the 25 pics assigned the keyword "schwartz", because that keyword has a synonym "gwenn".
This illustrates the behavior I mentioned above: The criterion "Keywords contains x" will match against any of a pic's assigned keywords, any of those keywords' ancestor keywords, and any of the synonyms of the assigned keywords and their ancestors.
So LR is operating correctly here, if not in a way that's easy to understand.
It appears that you are using the synonyms of "schwartz" to represent individual members of the Schwartz family.  A better way of representing family relationships is to have a parent keyword "Schwartz", with subkeywords for each family member, e.g. "Gwenn Schwartz", "Joe Schwartz", "Jane Schwartz", etc.  Repeating the family name in the subkeywords has a couple of advantages. LR usually only displays the "leaf" name of a keyword, so instead of showing you just "Joe", it will show you "Joe Schwartz", helpful when there are a number of different people whose first name is "Joe".  Also, if you ever export your pics to other software, it may not understand the LR hierarchy and won't show the parent keywords, so again it's more informative to see a keyword named "Joe Schwartz" rather than "Joe".

  • Strange Keyword List Filtering Behavior

When I filter down for a word and want to see its sub-word and maybe add another one I click on it and reset the filter. And after that I can browse down until white line of selection where I stop and discover what words I have inside selected word and add another one if I need. It worked this way in LR2 but now selection of a word in filtering mode doesn't save when I reset a filter! But selection is not filtering! Why you've made this change???
Update: I just got why Adobe made this change. Because now I don't need to expand word branches to see the end of it with requested word—LR3 temporarily expand the branches when you search for a word. BUT if you select a word of TEMPORARY expanded branch—the selection won't be saved after filter reseting!
So, we can use the following workaround: If you expand all keyword listing down to the end white line selection will be saved after filter reseting.
But the best solution I see here is to give a possibility to see sub-words of filtered word even if they don't have requested word—just make them gray for example (but save a possibility to edit them).
Flickr plug-in and better watermarking (which doesn't work for my demands) are reasons why I wanted to upgrade but this is a second keyword list change which I don't like! You can check for another change in LR3 Keyword List behavior here http://forums.adobe.com/message/2908024#2908024 Because of it I need to have keyword list with all synonyms opened in text editor to search before adding another unnecessary word which I already have in synonyms. If you have CV with big branches and a lot of synonyms—this is a problem. Please fix!

    HI William...
Hopefully just a corrupted preference file.
    Locate this file. com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences.
Drag that .plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
If that doesn't help, boot from the SL disk and check the hard drive for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
    Check available disk space.
Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is at least 10% available disk space, 15% is better.*

  • Keyword list too long

since iphoto version 8.0.2 up to the current version 9.1.5 I have one problem: my keyword list is too long. so clicking on "search" and then on "keyword" opens a list of four collumns and way too much rows for my display. so all keywords beginning with "a" until "k" are not visible and subsequently not choosable for search.
how can I search the first part of my keywords from "a" to "k" when the list is too long to be completely displayed?
PS: in the first iphoto-versions I bypassed the problem by using "keyword-manager" (bullstorm.se) but since the newest version, it is no longer compatible...

    You can't, unfortunately.
IPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
Of course, you can still search using Smart Albums.

  • Keyword list totals missing in LR3

Top level totals missing in keyword list in LR3, these were there in LR2.  Totals available by individual keyword only.  I used these totals to check that all new photos had been keyworded, now I cannot say if I have missed some records or which ones they are.  No top level totals in search either.

As Lee Jay has pointed out, this is by design. Lightroom now only displays a count for explicit keywords.
