Searching Migrated Photos by Keyword

I migrated my Aperture library to Photos. After leaving it overnight, the CPU calmed down and all my photos appear to be in the new Photos. However, I have found that I can't search existing photos (that came from Aperture) by keyword -- the search results will show nothing. I can create a new Smart Album based on the keywords and the results will show.
If I change the keywords on existing photos they cannot be searched.
If I import a new photo, I can add keywords to it and search based on it.
Anybody else encounter this problem and know of a solution?

In the Grid view, click on Metadata in the Library Filter bar above the image grid. You should see four columns that you can select to search on. By default, one of them should be "Lens." Grab the tiny little slider just to the right of the list, and scroll until you find what you want.
If none of the colums is for "Lens", click the title of any of the four columns (e.g., Camera, Date, Label). You'll get a pop-up with a list of all the metadata available. Select "Lens" and then follow the instructions above.

  • Search for photos with multiple keywords

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to search for photos that have multiple keywords.   When selecting multiple keywords in a Bridge search the default behavior is to find photos that have any of the keywords rather than all of the keyword.  In other words I want to do an AND keyboard rather than an OR search.

You should be able to do so in the find menu of Bridge (Edit/Find or cmd+F)
With the plus sign you can add an extra (and) keyword to it.
A shortcut may be to first find one keyword and then use the filter panel
keyword section and select the other wished keywords by putting a checkmark
in front, only the selected files will show in the content window.
In other words I want to do an AND keyboard rather than an OR search.

  • [tip] search for / selecting NO keywords (selection photos without a keyword)

Probably it is old news but I couldn't find it here that fast.
I have 20.000 photos, some have a keyword(s) some have not. So I searched for a selection of photographs without a keyword. But there is none.
The trick is to add a special keyword you normally not use like (only) "_" (underscore) to all photos without a keyword. But there is no way to select photos wihtout a keyword... So I came up with a two step strategy and this trick only cost 2-3 minutes with 20.000 photos:
Add the "_" keyword to all you photos.
Select all photos with a real keyword by shift clicking on all keywords tags except "_".
Remove the "_" keyword from those photos.
Now select the "_" keyword or search on the "_" keyword.
A how to, in 14 steps:
    1. Hit G, goto library (in left panel) and click on "all photographs"
    2. Select all photos by pressing ctrl-a
    3. Wait till LR is ready displaying all used keywords in the right keywords panel
    4. In right panel under keywording/keyword tags add the keyword "_"
    5. Wait till LR is ready updating all your photos (20.000 photos: 1 minute)
    6. Goto "Keyword tags" in the left panel
    7. Select the (suppose the second) keyword just after the "_" keyword by left clicking.
    8. Scroll down till the end in the keyword list
    9. Now, shift click on the last keyword
    10. You now selected all keywords except the "_" keyword and all are highlihted
    11. Select all photo's (ctrl-a)
    12. Wait till LR shows all the keywords in the Keywording/keyword tags panel on the right
check: the keyword "_" should have no asterix like "_*" if so: goto step 1!
    13. Remove the "_" keyword and press enter
    14. Wait till LR is ready
From now on while selecting the "_" keyword or searching on the keyword "_" LR will only show the photos without a (real) keyword.
Of course, as soon as you add keyword(s) to your foto(s) you have to delete the "_" keyword.
Speed tip: when starting keywording, select the photo you like to add real keywords, ctrl-k brings you directly to the keyword tags panel in edit mode, hit backspace (to delete the "_" keyword and start typing your keywords and hit enter or tab when done. Then immediately (of course) the photo dissapears from your "_" keyword selection photos and the next photo is selected and is waiting for you to hit ctrl-k and start again. Look mam, "no mouse used!"
    Have fun!

    >I have 20.000 photos, some have a keyword(s) some have not. So I searched for a selection of photographs without a keyword. But there is none.
There is actually, and it is much simpler:
Using the Find Panel, choose Text: Keywords and Rule: Are Empty.

  • EXPORTING Photos WITH Keywords in Photo's metadata

Is there a way to export your pictures to a folder so you have all jpegs and each photo has all the keywords embedded in its metadata?
I started making a digital library for my company for reference purposes and we just released our first intranet. The intranet has its own file searching capabilities and i want to transfer the pictures from lightroom every so often to the intranet to enable emplyees to search the intranet via keyword without having to re-tag every picture in the intranet system.
    Is this possible?
Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated,

When you export JPEGs from LR, the metadata including keywords, is exported within the image. Is this not what you are seeing? One exception is if "Minimize embedded metadata" is checked in the export dialog. Make sure that is not checked.

  • How to view/browse photos by keyword?

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and Lightroom. I am testing Lightroom 4 to see if it fits my needs.
What I can't seem to figure out is how to browse photos by keyword without creating a smart collection for every keyword. Can anyone enlighten me if this is possible?
I have used Bibble for a few years now and this is something I used alot.
    Regards
    Stian

Over on the right, in the Keyword List panel, point at a keyword and you will see an arrow on the right edge of the panel, to the right of the number of photos. Click on that arrow.
Alternatively, in the Filter Bar, select keyword as a search criterion, then click on the desired keyword (optionally ctrl-click on multiple keywords)

  • How do i migrate photos in a folder on my desktop over to my new macbook pro

how do i migrate photos in a folder on my desktop over to my new macbook pro

    Hi d,
Connect the two Macs using FireWire Target Disk Mode http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Then just drag the folder from your old Mac to your new Mac (it depends which you use for target and which for source, but one will show up as a HD icon on the desktop of the other; you can copy to/from that HD to/from the other Mac (the folder on your desktop).

Check, if you have the "Primary Only" option enabled. Then keywords will only be applied to the "Primary Image":
See:                  Keywords or ratings are applied only to one of the selected images - why?
Uncheck the little square button with the "1".

Please read this help file and follow the instructions step by step.

    Good luck.

  • Unable to search for photos in Spotlight.

Some weeks ago, I inadvertently dragged my 'Pictures' folder into the desktop, and managed to replace it, but after that, (and after temporarily renaming it 'Images') I can no longer search for photos in Spotlight.
Spotlight Preferences now recognises 'Images' and I'm unable to change it back to 'Pictures'.
Any advice or solution would be greatly appreciated.

Spotlight Preferences now recognises 'Images' and I'm unable to change it back to 'Pictures'.
As I said before there is no "photo" file type, just a bunch of other kinds (tiff, jpeg, GIF, and maybe 20 other possible extensions) that are used for photos. I don't think Spotlight uses the term "Pictures", just "images". I have a "Pictures" folder but in Spotlight I just see "Images" in the search results, and "Images" is what is uses in the preferences.
this doesn't explain why I'm unable to search for photo files using Spotlight.
Make sure that the area containing your photos is not excluded from search by the privacy feature in Spotlight's preferences.
Spotlight searches for text information. For example, I have lots of photos, but spotlight only find a single one since I don't use the word "photo" in any of my file names or folder names. The one file it finds has "Created by Adobe Photoshop" in the metadata - Spotlight is keying in on the word "photo". If I type in the word "Picture" it finds the Pictures folder, but doesn't list the contents since none of those have the word "Picture" in their names or text within the file.
What exact search term are you entering into Spotlight? Are you sure that a file exists with that term in its name, or perhaps in text included within the file?

  • Search for photo's NOT in Album

Is there a way to search for photo's not in an album?

Huh?  Not sure at all what you are saying.
Camera Roll photos are photos that were taken with/saved from the iphone itself.  Those are not part of the sync process at all.  You import those as you would with any digital camera.
Photos/albums that you sync ( via itunes) from your computer to your will appear under photo library and the individual albums that you selected under "photos" in itunes

  • Search for images using Keywords Problem.

    1) In LR4, Search for images using Keywords (click on arrow next to Keyword).
    2) Select image, export to PS6, save as Tif.
    3) Tif retains all Keywords when it appears in LR
    4) Despite that, image does not show up in the same 'Search for images using Keywords'.
Can anyone help with this, it is frustrating me!

Thanks, I will try, but it seems to be an inconsistent problem.

  • Hi. Migrated photos from Photoshop Album to Phtoshop Elements 13. Lost all tags Any ideas?

Hi. Migrated photos from Photoshop Album to Photoshop Elements 13. Lost all tags Any ideas?

I'm not sure but it sounds a lot like the question I posed to the forum a little later today.  It may be that the newer versions of PSE are not compatible with transfering all the Categories, Sub Categories and Tags from versions up to PSE 10.  I am presently using PSE 10 because I couldn't figure out how to save all the organization I have put into Elements over the past 10 years or so.
I'm hoping for an answer to my question.

  • Upgrade to IOs8 and not all photo's have come across? I don't remember seeing a migrate photo option - help

Hi - can you retrospectively see the option to migrate photos from iphoto to photo's? If not how do i get my photos from iphoto to show in photos after upgrading? Any help appreciated

because IOS8 now doesn't allow iphoto to open anymore even though it's still there.
Have you tried it?  When I launch iPhoto on my iPad or iPhone with iOS 8 , it brings up the question if I want to migrate.  You just can do anything else but migrating.
. I plugged my phone into itunes and under photos even checked all the boxes for my photos and it appears some have come across but not all.
Do you have enough storage on your iPhone to accommodate all photos you selected?

  • Searching for photos WITHOUT a certain term?

Is there a way to search for photos that do NOT have a certain term? Basically I have a whole bunch of events, albums, etc. And then out of those, I have a subset of photos that I've posted to flickr, and those are in an album called Flickr. I did a batch change so all the descriptions say flickr. Now my computer is pretty full and I want to clear off some space (I have my whole photo library on an external HD so I'm not really deleting stuff, just deleting it off my laptop). I want to delete whole events but I'd like to keep the photos that are in the flickr album, since they're really my best photos. Can anyone think of an easy way to delete all photos in a bunch of events EXCEPT the ones that are marked as flickr photos?

I just wanted to report back, in case anyone else is interested, that Duplicate Annihilator worked perfectly. I told it to put "duplicate" in the description field of the duplicates, and "keep" in the corresponding original copy of the duplicate. It didn't tell me it was going to do this, but it ended up giving each one a number, so you could compare the two versions and make sure they were duplicates, or consider which one you really wanted to keep. Since I have over 17000 photos, I bought the full version and let it run for an hour or so, and it found a bunch of duplicates.

  • Searching for photos

Surprisingly you cannot search for photos with the iPad search feature. Does anyone now of a photo app that always searches on the file name? I am having a hard time finding one.
Or is there anyway to turn on the search feature to include photos?
    TIA

Yes, unfortunately that is true… and there is no way to turn it on.
But you can always write a feedback:
