Searching on Win Servers

it looks like it was a mistake to uprade to Lion. Since this time i can't search on external Win servers.
(OK its now nearby a Year i do this. But i am here to do my job and not to serve in the web for fixing software bugs. -isnt it a job for the deliverer?)
All what i found on different helps and foren is really complicate or only from the server side to fix.
But in a great company this guys are scared for any changing, and especially when its asked from the minority whis the macs.
What should i do? Switching to Win OS downgrade to 10.6? Or is there a solution for "normal users"?
P.S.
It will be nice when next the great new posibillities of a new OS release such great restrictions are mentioned!

I do not remember the details, but for my previous job we
used a server
name that could resolve to any of the LDAP [aka active
directory]
servers as required. The network operations set this up and
just
provided me with the domain name to put into the server
attribute and
all the fail-over, etc was handled by the network.

Invalid printer error on clustered WIN Servers

We have one BOE system operating on an MS cluster, two servers total.
We also have 6,000+ printers, scattered over 15+ print servers.
Needless to say, the printer drivers get out of synch over the various print servers, and this is the problem.
Every day, any report that is scheduled to run to either an HP 4200 or HP 4250 fails.
Not only that, if we log on to the WIN server, and try to print to any 4200 / 4250 printer from notepad, that also fails.
The solution is to stop the BOE job server, recycle the print WIN spooler, go to the server properties for the printers, and remove the drivers for these printers. Restart the job servers, and now all is well, until the next day, all 4200 / 4250 reports fail again.
Seems that BOE automatically adds / updates printer drives, and since the versions are out of synch on the print server, they crash.
We have run out of options, SAP has no solution; any help would be appreciated,

As far as I know BO uses the windows subsystem when sending a print job. So BO sends the job to the OS for print handling.
Having the same driver versions across your print servers & BO servers would be the resolution, alternatively you might want to consider using HP's universal print driver:

Problems with subscriber search between unity servers in a dialing domain

I have two Unity 8 Active/Passive clusters in the following configuration Site A    Unity Cluster A    Exchange Server A Site B   Unity Cluster B   Exchange Server B The Exchange servers are on the same Active Directory Domain and in the same MS Exchange OrganizationThe unity clusters are on the same domain as the Exchange Servers and are connected to the same Cisco Call manager 7 system. The unity clusters are in a Dilaling Domain that should allow them to share subscriber information. Everything seems to be configured correctly but for some reason when I do search for all subscribers on Cluster A i can't see the subscribers on Cluster B and vise versa. As a result the auto attendant on cluster A can't transfer calls to subscribers on cluster B. I've gone over every document I can find and no matter what i do i can't seem to solve the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, please ensure you go through every step of the Cisco.com document on "Digital Networking" for Unity 8.0.   There are various different things that need to be configured; such as ensuring each of the Primary Unity servers, for each location, have had each of their Primary Location set to use the same Dialing Domain.
Does the GlobalSubscriber table, in SQL, include all of the users from the other cluster?   This will at least indicate whether or not Unity has been successful in synch'ing back all users from it's local Active Directory Domain Controller (DC).   If the DC's weren't communicating correctly, then this type of issue could easily occur.

Searching - Files, HD, Servers - HELP!

Up until getting this new machine with Leopard on it, whenever I've done a search, on my own system or the 2-3 main Mac Servers we use, I have never had a problem finding all the files I am looking for.
Now with Leopard, I don't have great luck. When I search, I am usually searching our servers for artwork. we list things by numbers so it's easy to find. When I search now, I am lucky if the search gives me consistent results and consistent results from all my servers. Once in a great while I'll get everything, but most times I get parts of this and parts of that...and it's just that, it's a few files from one drive and some from another.
Now the WORSE part. When I click a folder to check what's inside, it flips to that folder, but if I click the back button...IT STARTS SEARCHING ALL OVER AGAIN!!! Then I usually get less results then the first time...and it's much slower. Back in Tiger, it would flip back to what the original search was, not re-search everything.
Back in Tiger, I never had these issues...what's going wrong...WHAT'S HAPPENING!

P.S. Searching for art is an everyday, every hour thing. I lived by Apples great search...what happened! Any suggestions or help would be great. I read EasyFind is a good alternative, but it's very SLOW!

I understand who helps and that's what you are trying to do. Don't take offense to anything I am saying...I am just asking in general for help! :>)
I didn't know spotlight had anything to do with the regular search, I thought it only indexes your HD, not all the servers you had connected too! Interesting. Do I dare index our servers? Wouldn't that take forever and also hold a lot of old info? What if something is updated within the hour? The way the regular search works, I know if something has been updated that minute if I am searching for it.
Hmmm...I am confused now!

Why is the Edit CSS Web Developer toolbar, not enabling Search in Win 8?

We are using Windows 8 and the Web Developer tool bar is now installed.
However, after using Edit CSS, the Search box to search thru CSS is disabled. I don't see how to enable it, or moreso, why it's disabled at all.

For now, you might want to explore the built-in style editor (Shift+F7) as a temporary workaround. Press Ctrl+f or right-click in the style sheet edit control to access find.

Can't search servers anymore

I recently upgraded to Lion. I can no longer search on the servers I connect to. I used to be able to do this on Leopard and Snow Leopard.

Start menu/Search box works one single time after boot and sporadically on seemingly random occasions. Win+D shortcut doesn't work either.

the exception of rolling back to a previous build (which was working). I'm on 10061.
I did registry editing, creating a new user, the powershell command (stumbled upon this just before finding the above link and it fixed that problem; the start menu/search box/Win+D bug was happening before the Metro Apps crash).
A temporary fix exists which requires me to tskill explorer every time I want to use the start menu, the search box or show my deaktop. Not really practical. That will let me use them for a few times but once I click repeateadly on the search box (it is
really slow), forget it. Not even the "show desktop" rectangle in the bottom right corner works (it doesn't in any other situation except the brief time were the other options are usable.
Every other single Windows Key keyboard shortcut works.
I hope enough information was provided but if anything else is needed, I'll do it.
You know, honestly I wish Microsoft would just either dump the Metro Windows UI or burn the Classic Windows UI because
still keeping the Control Panel divided and with no way interact with the Metro Apps outside of their environment is just stupid (or I'm not seeing the bigger picture).

Script to Change WINS IP based on current address.

Hello everyone! I've been looking online for help on changing the primary and secondary WINS addresses on hundreds of servers. I've come across scripts that will set the WINS addresses for all enabled NICS on servers listed in a .txt file. But I don't want
it to set WINS address on adapters on our backup network. Long story short, here's what i need:
PowerShell script that will:
1. Change the Primary and Secondary WINS addresses on servers from a .txt (or .xlsx) file.
2. Makes the change by querying the enabled adapters on the server that already have a specific IP address defined for WINS.
Here is an example of what I need (I don't know who the original author of this is to give proper credit.) It does what I want for DNS, but need it modified for WINS only. I really appreciate anyone's suggestions!

Yes Bill I did, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. Oddly enough though, I started searching by "PowerShell Get WINS servers" and I came across something that helped. I ended up using this:

Is it possible to re-register with WINS without restarting?

We're switching out our WINS servers, and I would like to register my Netware servers with the new servers without restarting CIFS or the server. Is this possible? The servers are also in DNS, so is it a big deal if they aren't registered in WINS for an extended period?

Cannot SMB to Win Server2008

We have three Win servers, Server 2000, Server 2003 and now one Server 2008.
Earlier with 10.5 we could use finder to connect file shares on all three servers, after 10.6.1 no mac (we have four on our network all 10.6.1) can connect to server 2008, but 2003 and 2000 works fine.
Have searched all internet and tried most things like numerical password, :139 , domain and more. And no mac can connect to 2008, my server specialist did fix something about encryption but no difference, if I use Forklift I can see the shares on server 2008 but not with finder, very annoying.

Has anybody seen the issue below showing in the logs? The time for the logs messages switch from the real time (17:57) to some random time (10:55). There seem to be a disconnect with the time. I noticed right when the status message while logging in switches
to "apply user settings", the time get screwed up on the gpsvc.log file and switches to the random time (10:55) and keeps reporting that random time till "apply user settings" process completes and switches back to regular real time (17:57).
I made sure the server is synced up with w32tm /resync command. Tried different DNS settings. Tried dis joining and rejoining to the domain. tried to block inheritance on GPMC to that OU. Created new domain user. Deleted local profiles. All with no luck and
same behavior which is taking up to 5 min "applying user setting" only after a reboot. If I log in and out without reboot, it would log in just fine within seconds.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

The numbers in parenthesis are PID.TID of gpsvc.exe. So we see a thread
change, and this usually indicates that a different logon process has
begun. Could you try to map this log entries to events in the group
policy event log?
But to be honest: No, I've never seen such a behavior in gpsvc.log :(
I'm almost sure that a service is responsible, but how to identify it -
I don't know. There's no auditing for system time changes, AFAIK.

SharePoint Foundation which is installed during TFS 2013 installation has no search capability

I installed a Team Foundation Server 2013 . I opted to install SharePoint Foundation 2013 during the TFS installation on the same application server. The installation went well and everything looked fine. TFS was running and the SharePoint teamsites
were also purring like a kitten.
But then I tried to do a search from the default team site which was created for me. I got the following message:“Your search cannot be completed because no Search
service is available. Contact your administrator for more information.”
I clicked “New” and nothing… nothing happened. No dropdown.
Then I remembered that in order to get your Search Service Application provisioned you have to create it using the configuration wizard in Central Administration.
I started the wizard and when I got to the page where I needed to select the services I want, I saw only 1 service. The Usage and Health Data Collection service.
Anyway i found out that If you choose to install SharePoint through TFS, we will only configure services that you would need
to use for TFS-supported integration features. We do this to conserve resources. Search does not fall into this category, and moreover is one of the largest consumers of memory in SharePoint, so it is not advised to turn it on if you are running
SharePoint and TFS on the same box
Someone can help me maybe and advice what should i do to install the search service? (i don't want to install all things from start and i am not able to do that cause the developers working on the tfs2013 all day.

so, as you found, SharePoint's search (especially with SP2013) can be rather resource intensive... previous versions were much smaller in scope, but the SP2013 release includes what used to be the SharePoint 2010 FAST Search... and the FAST search engine
REPLACED all other search engines in SP2013, and as a result is included in the FOUNDATION edition.
Generally speaking, the search "service" includes several components, for crawling content, indexing, and more... each of these components are somewhat resource intensive (see http://www.sbrickey.com/Tech/Blog/Post/On_the_effects_of_memory_limiting_noderunner_exe ,
and be aware that each component can add a few hundred MB of RAM usage).
Additionally, the search index can be DISK intensive (MS recommends at least 500GB for most SharePoint intranet environments).
Finally, the indexing process will of course be somewhat CPU intensive.
So, it is quite understandable that search would be disabled by default, especially if you've got a SINGLE SharePoint server.
Most SharePoint environments that utilize search, have separate servers to provide such processing, without impacting the performance of users that are viewing content via a browser request. This is especially true when you look at SharePoint's Streamlined
Topology approach.

Nokia Lumia 920 email : how to do search on all em...

Hello all,
This is a feature i miss from my previous iphone 4.
I have multiple email accounts linked together (hotmail, 2 google accounts) on my lumia 920 email client app. I have set all email accounts to sync emails from past one month. However when i do a search for a particular keyword (eg: barbecue) , which might be present on one or all of the email accounts, probably on or before the one month time window, the email client can search only on the hotmail server and not on the google servers.
This was a feature i enjoyed with the iphone, in that it can search on all servers (linked) for the keyword I' looking for. Am I missing some setting ? or is it a limitation of the windows phone 8 email client ? or is it a limitation for nokia lumia's implementation of the windows phone 8 email client ?
Hope someone can help me out.

Tried this and now i have only synced last 7 days and the search for an email can search on all servers (hotmail and google). However, its slightly annoying that i've to sync all calendars and contacts in order get the mail client be able to connect to the server. A change in this behaviour is desired.!

Is it possible to have one search box search many fields? ( and "autocomplete" the results)?

I'm really new to the whole area of JSON, autocomplete and javascript. My first project in this area is personal: making it easier to search for wines in my wine cellar.
I have all my wines in a sqlite database (driven by CF 9 of course) and have a nice UI to report on, add, modify, delete, etc. What I want to add is a search capability that works like this: a user types text in a search box in any order they want and automagically, the wine is found.
To be specific, a user could start with "2005 Caymus" and the area below the text search box would be populated with all of the varietals of Caymus for 2005 that are in the cellar. Similarly the user might start the search by typing "2005 Cabernet" in which case anything in the cellar that is from 2005 and a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Cabernet Franc from all wineries would appear below the text box. Or maybe they just want to see what French wines are in the cellar, so they'd start their search with "France" or "French". (BTW, winery, vintage, wine type (varietal), country, appellation, etc. are all separate fields in the database/table.)
Is my imagined search capability possible, or does each aspect of the search (year, winery, wine type/varietal) have to be user-entered into a separate text box?
Any guidance/answers greatly appreciated! If you're local, might even be worth sharing a vintage bottle of wine!

Google is a single text box. If you type "coldfusion 9 new features"
you get a good listing of your results without having one box for
software one for version one for descriptor and
one for topic . Similarly with Google it's likely you'll get
somewhat similar results typing in "new features coldfusion 9" or
"coldfusion 9 features". So for my wine app I just want to present the
user with one box so they can type in "Caymus 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon"
(a "specific" search) or "2005" (a search for all wines from that year),
etc. It's the cleanness of the user experience I'm trying to
accommodate here. Make sense?

How to start / stop nodes without domain-controller / automatically on Win?

Hi,
we have a distributed installation of CMSDK 9.0.4.
We have installed a 9.2.0.4 Database on Solaris and we are using the 10g(9.0.4) Infrastructure on Solaris with it.
The first installation of CMSDK uses a J2EE-MidTier installation on the Solaris server and contains the CMSDK domain controller and a normal node with nfs protocol server running.
The other installations are done on Win2003 Blades. Currently we are using two Blades. On each there is a J2EE-MidTier installation and within these we have installed CMSDK with HTTP-Node and normal node. We are using NTFS-Server within the normal nodes.
The Blades are within one Domain and we have NLB-Cluster activated for both.
The whole thing sounds complex, but it works fine. We only have some trouble regarding start/stop of the nodes:
1. If the solaris backend fails, our cluster-configuration tries to stop and start cmsdk. While stopping cmsdk, all nodes - even those on the Win-Servers - are stopped. But starting does not bring em up again automatically.
2. If a Windows Server is booted, the normal node does not start automatically.
3. If one Windows Server is not available, the ifsctl check takes a very long time because it's trying to get information from the missing one.
Is there a way to restart the domain controller and node on solaris without stopping the nodes on Windows?
How can we start the windows nodes automatically after reboot?
Is there a way to probably start the nodes without being managed / guarded by the domain controller?

Try adding this script to your /etc/init.d directory:
#!/bin/sh
ifsctl start << EOF
<ifsctl password>
EOF
Replace <ifsctl password> with the password that you would give at the prompt.
It will complain about Inappropriate ioctl for device, but it works.
