Searching Photos in Spotlight for in iOS4

I have a ton of photos on my iPhone 4 but would like to be able to include my photo keywords or photo events in spotlight. Is there now way to do this or is there an app that someone knows about that allows for this?
Cheers!

There is no option in the spotlight for searching photos (you'd know this if you had actually checked). As for an app, the only way that the app would let you do this, is if you loaded the photos into the APP, not the iPhone itself, through the photos app.

  • Unable to search for photos in Spotlight.

Some weeks ago, I inadvertently dragged my 'Pictures' folder into the desktop, and managed to replace it, but after that, (and after temporarily renaming it 'Images') I can no longer search for photos in Spotlight.
Spotlight Preferences now recognises 'Images' and I'm unable to change it back to 'Pictures'.
Any advice or solution would be greatly appreciated.

Spotlight Preferences now recognises 'Images' and I'm unable to change it back to 'Pictures'.
As I said before there is no "photo" file type, just a bunch of other kinds (tiff, jpeg, GIF, and maybe 20 other possible extensions) that are used for photos. I don't think Spotlight uses the term "Pictures", just "images". I have a "Pictures" folder but in Spotlight I just see "Images" in the search results, and "Images" is what is uses in the preferences.
this doesn't explain why I'm unable to search for photo files using Spotlight.
Make sure that the area containing your photos is not excluded from search by the privacy feature in Spotlight's preferences.
Spotlight searches for text information. For example, I have lots of photos, but spotlight only find a single one since I don't use the word "photo" in any of my file names or folder names. The one file it finds has "Created by Adobe Photoshop" in the metadata - Spotlight is keying in on the word "photo". If I type in the word "Picture" it finds the Pictures folder, but doesn't list the contents since none of those have the word "Picture" in their names or text within the file.
What exact search term are you entering into Spotlight? Are you sure that a file exists with that term in its name, or perhaps in text included within the file?

  • How to search photos by title and or keywords on iPhoto for iOS

Maybe I'm not I'm not seeing things wright but I can't find any possibilitie to search photos by name, title, keyword with iPhoto (1.0.1) on my iPad 2 (5.1.1)
How can I Search? I don't want to beleive that's not possible...

    Rob,
as Frank Caggiano said. There is not really any Apple-provided application on the iPad that will support a full-fledged photo database like the Mac-versions of Aperture or iPhoto. Even the IOS app iPhoto is nothing like the Mac version of iPhoto. The iPad version is not a photo database but a tool for editing, sharing, and viewing photos - the iPhoto Help is saying:
With iPhoto for iOS, you have everything you need to view, edit, and share your photos on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch (with iOS 7).
You can organize your photos in iPhoto IOS in a limited way by tagging them, so that they will apear in albums: What are albums?
To tag them with flags or keywords see: Flag, tag, hide photos
Considering the limited space on IOS devices, the designers probably did not expect anybody to try to store so many photos on an iPad that it would be necessary to search for them other than using the predefined Views (Moments, Places) in the Photos.app, or iPhoto's albums. And any library organization you are doing in the Photos.app or iPhoto will not sync back to your computer.

  • Spotlight search photos

Is there any reason that spotlight doesn't search photos? It would be nice if at least it searched folders, I have literally 100's of folders and it is such a pain to scroll therough them all. Please consider adding this feature to a future update.

  • Browsing photos with Spotlight?

    Hello everybody!
When I search some photos with spotlight is there any way to browse with the spotlight "slideshow" those folders spotlight find?
I mean, I have photos of cars in a folder named "cars". When I search for car photos I have the searchword "cars" and I find that folder (cars), is there now any way to see those photos inside that cars-folder with the spotlight? Or should all the files be somehow named "cars"... I hope you got my point.
    Thanks in advance!

      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have quite a few things that show up with the search term "flowers"--some image files (which you can see in slideshow by pressing the play button in the Spotlight window view), and a couple of folders. The easiest way to view a slideshow of the items in one of the folders is to double click the the folder in the Spotlight window, which opens that folder. Then select all the items, and control-click on one, and select "Slideshow" from the contextual menu.

  • Tags, Keywords - tagging and filtering/searching photos - an other `advanced search`

    Hello,
I'd like to know, who of you would like new functionality on handling tags for filtering/searching photos (as a replacement of the `advanced search`)
(I noted it in German - sorry, I'm not used to write in English...)
The goal is, to use the same Tag-structure to tag photos and also to filter them (most likely as you could do that with PSE 9 ) .
I don't want this `advanced search` window, that takes a lot of space - I want to see my photos, not a hug program border...  ;-) )
    What's your opinion?
    Regards
    Thomas

    Helllo Robert,
Thank you for your answer...  ;-)   - at least I'm not alone...  ;-))
Well, if you only want to not to show up the `waste of space` - you can click on the ^ symbol most right in the top of the search area (next to the X symbol).
You can also put away tags from the filter by double klicking on them in the bar on the top of photos.
    But you
    - can not mix up AND/OR and NOT selections.
    - can not enlarge the advanced search space to the whole screen - so, with many tags the selection of a specific tag is annoying
(since there are no optical differences like color and symbols as it does in the tags-tree)
How can we report that to adobe so they will enhance their product for us...  ;-))
    Regard
    Thomas

  • Disabling spotlight for Time Capsule

    Hi,
I need to disable (please do not ask the reason, I just need) indexing for backups on the Time Capsule. I know that the help on Spotlight says Time Machine needs spotlight bla bla... and, it can't disable indexing for this. I just don't beleive it, because when I disable spotlight for good with the following command:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
time machine continues to function just fine. Everything seems perfect as far as the time machine is concerned. However, other apps (like Mail) which relies on spotlight for searching forced me to reenable the spotlight (with the following command) with tears in my eyes:
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
So, please help me to find a workaround for disabling spotlight/indexing just for time machine.
By the way I tried the following methods without any success, so do not bother to recommend them:
    1) Including TM volume and/or Backup directory in the TM volume to the privacy list of Spotlight
    2) sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/VolumeName and sudo mdutil -E /VolumeName
    3) Erased .Spotlight-V100
    4) touch .metadata_never_index in the root and/ot Backup directory of time machine volume
    5) creating a dummy file named  .Spotlight-V100
    [rebooted in all instances...]
    PLEASE HELP

So, you've read through the FAQs and couldn't find a solution, eh? Sorry, but I don't use TM nor do I muck with CLI commands that I don't fully comprehend. You'll have to wait for someone more knowledgeable to pop in.

  • When accessing Trademe through Firefox I can't view photos of items for sale

I can view photos of things for sale on Trademe through Internet Explorer, but can only read information through Firefox and cannot see any of the photos of things for sale

Is it possible there is a search set in the Browser for the project with missing images? When I set 1 project to view only 5 starts, all my images will not appear as expected in the Browser since I have not ratings, but selecting the Folder level will display all of them. Check that.

  • How can I search photos in my library by definition (300dpi or 72dpi) ?

Hi, I have several questions before buy Lightroom licence but I haven't find how to do with trial version.
1° How can I search photos in my library by definition (300 dpi or 72 dpi) ?
2° Is it possible to search photos by same chromatic scale (all photos with most green for example, to match with a green page setting)
3° Is it possible to find doubloons (exactly same photo but not same title or format) ?
(I'm french, so please try to make simple answer)
    Thank you for your answer.
    Aline

    1) This question is based on a misunderstanding of resolution. A digital photo does not have resolution, i.e. it is neither 300 ppi nor 72 ppi not anything else ppi. A digital image has only a pixel dimension - so many pixels horizontal, so many vertical. That's all. Resolution comes only into play when we print an image. For a quality print we need a certain minimum amount of dots per inch. But as long as the image is digital (in the camera or on the computer) it has only pixel dimension - for instance 2000 x 3000 pixels. Therefore you cannot search by 300 ppi or 72 ppi.
    2) What do you mean by "chromatic scale"?  And what do you mean by "photos with most green"?
Do you mean search for a photo that is taken - let's say - in a forest vs. a photo taken in the desert? No, you can't search for that in Lr since Lr does not recognize image content.
But if you mean by "mostly green" a color label - yes you can search for photos that have a green color label (or a red one, or yellow, etc.)
    3) No. As already mentioned, Lr does not recognize image content. An exact duplicate of an image that has a different file name is a different image for Lr.

  • Enhanment Idea: Search photo by folder name

    Hi,
I would like to search photos in LR as I would do in Explorer.
I don't use tags, but I give folder names meaningfull names.
So for example if I have
    Mark in Boston
    Peter in New York
    Mark in Rome
I would like to do  a search like
    1)
Find of pictures that whose's folders contains "*Mark*"
and this will pick "Mark in Boston" and "Mark in Rome"
    2)
    Find "Mark" or "Peter"
and he will give me pictures from all the threee directory.
It could be good if we could also actually filter the directory trees based on some parameters.

  • Hide Mail Search Results Drafts or for Trash?

when i run a search in mail it is totally cluttered up with what appear to be DRAFTS of outgoing emails that are in the TRASH.
is there a way to stop mail from creating these or to hide them from my search results?
it's like someone upturned my trash buckets onto my desk over here.
    THANKS

    thank you. great help.
can you just remind me how i control what i want to see on the left hand side again (and whether you have any tricks or insight into this)?
for instance, i have On My Mac mail which i moved to the hard drive and off of my IMAP based mail. presumably i can add an On My Mac icon on the top left?
also, i've always found searchlight uber annoying in the sense that i can ADD search criteria but i cannot tell it to /not/ include some kind of criteria. say for instance that i want to search all text documents for the word "capricious" but i /don't/ want to see results for pdf's that contain this word. or - well it would be nice to be able to include or exclude certain hard drives a little more integrated with the search criteria instead of having to run off to the Settings that are buried somewhere. i mean, maybe i really need to search an external drive and i want spotlight to index this drive for me overnight for this particular search - it would be great to be able to temporarily add this HD in a way that was easy but also made it easy to remove it when i found what i needed.
anyway, i digress because you provided a nice explanation here...
is there such a thing in MAIL search as adding a set of criteria or excluding a set of criteria? i mean, say i want to search for anything that went out TO "MyLandlordAttilaTheHun" but also anything that came in FROM him - but i didn't want to see anything in the trash?
anyway, thanks for anything on that and/or any future helpful observations...

  • System Prefs search results in Spotlight always appear in Japanese ... ?

Recently I've noticed that for some reason, searching for System Prefs using Spotlight always returns the results in Japanese, whereas all of the other search results in Spotlight are in English.
Does anyone have any idea how this could happen, or how to reverse it? I've tried removing all languages except for English from the International System Prefs, but they still show up in Japanese.
    Any help much appreciated.

    Try re-indexing Spotlight.

  • Other photo editing software for the Mac

Couldn't really find a category to put this question, so please bare with me. I have read some stuff about iPhoto (any version?) sometimes giving problems. Was wondering what other kinds of photo editing software is good to use on Tiger. PhotoShop Elements etc.? I have a Sawtooth 400mHz with 620MB of RAM. My Tiger is the original release: 10.4, but plan on updating to a newer version shortly.
    Thanks.

To add to Larry's list: take a look at Pixelmator also.
These are some of the system requirements for iLife 08:
    "System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor.
iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster). iMovie HD 6 can still be used and is preferred by many of us.
iDVD requires a 733MHz or faster processor.
512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended. High-definition video requires at least 1GB of RAM.
Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later.
    3GB of available disk space.
    DVD drive required for installation.
    QuickTime 7.2 or later.
Burning DVDs requires an Apple SuperDrive or compatible third-party DVD burner. "
It doesn't look like your G3 meets the system requirements. You may be able to install some parts of iLife 08 but I'm not sure. Do a search in this forum for "G3 and iPhoto" or other similar search criteria to see if others have been successful.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
