Searching Text in Contact Notes Field

Hi,
I have been a Windows Phone user all along. I am interested in switching over to Nokia.
I am looking for one basic requirement of being able to search through the Contacts Field for any text.
I use MS Outlook and store lot of text in the Notes Field inside each of my Contact and I need to be easily able to bring up all contacts that have a particular word or string inside the notes area. I can easily do this in Windows phone. But so far no nokia user has been able to tell me for sure if this is possible, if so how.
Thanks in advance for your advise.

Yes you CAN search the notes field (for any text) in a contact, but ONLY with Nokia's Search Utility (free download http://mobilesearch.nokia.com/index.html).
The Address Book application is limited to searching by first name, last name, and company name only.
The Nokia Search Utility is very good, but it's not exactly fast. Generally speaking the Symbian operating system requires patience.
It's worth knowing that Nokia phones impose a limitation on the size of the notes field in an Outlook contact. The limitation varies from each Nokia model. But for example, notes (in a contact record) are limited to 255 characters on the N80, and 1,000 (one thousand) characters on the N95. On my old Nokia 6600 there was no such limit imposed, which was great. I often wonder why the oldest model phone had better support for Outlook sync, than the latest models - perhaps it's all about memory conservation.
I also use the notes section in my Outlook contacts extensively. Ideally I would use a Windows Mobile device for true Outlook synchronisation. But I can't find a Windows Mobile device as capable as the N95, so I tolerate and find work arounds Nokia's sync issues.
Nokia do a good job of updating their software frequently. Hopefully if it's demanded enough, they will remove the limitation on the size of the Notes field.
Microsoft Outlook 2003 also has a limit on the size of the Notes field in a Contact Record, but it's much more generous at over 1,000,000 (one million) characters.
Come on Nokia! Stop truncating the notes field!

  • Search doesn't include text in calendar notes fields

I have a calendar created in iCal that includes about 90 entries with text in the notes field of each. Spotlight on the Mac searches that text fine.
I've synched that calendar to my iPhone - and search there doesn't include text in that field, though it does for the title field.
Its a great feature - but to keep calendar entries usable the titles need to be short with most details in the notes, but still searchable

  • E55 contacts note field 1000 character limit

In PC Suite, in can enter really long text into the contacts note field. Unfortunatelly, E55 displays first 1000 characters only (according to my tests), despite data being there after a successful synchronization.  How do I know? I can synchronize the same E55 with  MSOutlook in the next step, where the complete note field is transfered, not just the first 1000 characters.  Is it possible, to get rid of this silly 1000 character display restriction? By the way, in my old E71, I did not have this problem.

Please post what you find with BB10 re: the hard limit or character limit for Contact Notes. If BB10 simply carries over their existing limits to their new platform (which is very stingy), then this could be a deal breaker. I'd be VERY disappointed but definitely NOT surprised.
By the way, I bought a 3rd party program that syncs BB with Outlook and any other program and it's called "CompanionLink" and it works with BB Desktop seamlessly. You don't even know it's running as you still sync using the native BB desktop. CompanionLink increases the hard limit that BB has set for Contact Notes, Tasks, etc. However, there is still a limit. So instead of getting maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 page of notes (on a word doc) you get almost a full page.

  • Activesync issues with large contact notes field

I'm running into an issue where changes made at the end of a large note in a contact do not get synced, while changes at the beginning do.
Can anyone else confirm? Is this an activesync or apple implementation issue?
I ran into something similar on the blackberry side - would only evaluate first 1k chars. Fixed with a software update.

Please let me know whether you experience the following issue, and submit feedback (or if you are an Apple Developer, a bug report). This issue is not related to synchronization.
    Title/Subject:
Contacts 7.1 replaces one contact's Notes with another contact's Notes
    Summary:
This issue's significance is severe because data is permanently lost: After searching for contacts and editing one of the contact's Notes, all found contacts' Notes are replaced with the changed contact's Notes.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Launch the Contacts 7.1 app in OSX 10.8.2.
    2. Search for a string that appears in several contacts' Notes field.
    3. Click on one of the contacts in the search results.
    4. Ensure that "Edit Card" mode is NOT enabled.
    5. Alter the found string in the contact's Notes field.
    6. Click on a different contact in the search results list.
    Expected Results:
The change is saved and the changed contact disappears from the search results list.
    Actual Results:
All found contacts disappear from the search results list, and all found contacts' Notes are replaced with the changed contact's Notes.
    Regression:
This issue did not exist in OSX 10.7's Address Book app. I have not had the opportunity to test earlier releases of OSX 10.8's Contacts app.
    Notes:
    Example:
Suppose a search for "P1" finds three contacts:
Name: Alan  |  Note: Ask permission. P1
Name: Betsy  |  Note: Backup files. P1
Name: Charles  |  Note: Call. P1
While "Edit Card" mode is NOT enabled, in Alan's note, change "P1" to "P2". Then click on Betsy in the search results list. Betsy and Charles' Notes are erroneously and permanently replaced with Alan's Note:
Name: Alan  |  Note: Ask permission. P2
Name: Betsy  |  Note: Ask permission. P2
Name: Charles  |  Note: Ask permission. P2

  • Strange behavior in Contacts 'Note' field

I am getting strange behavior in the 'Note' fields of my contacts. I am sending out my Christmas cards and, in the process, making a lot of comments in the 'Note' field. Here is what has been happening.
Notes disapper from one or many contacts.
Text from one note gets inserted into the note of several other contacts, replacing whatever content was previously in that contact.
The common thread here seems to be that the changes are being applied across all the notes in a Smart Group (I use a number of keywords to create Smart Groups).
    A few questions.
Is my contact database corrupted in some way? If so, can how can I clean it up?
Are other people experience erratic behavior in the 'Note' field?
Is there any way that I can use the 'Note' field reliably?
As it is, the 'Note' field is essentially useless to me … and the address book is increasingly frustrating.
    Many thanks,
    Heather

Others are seeing this problem. I posted a reply to another link and was told to submit feedback to Apple.

  • Sync'd contacts 'notes' field not showing in Outlook

    Hey all,
Short version: Our notes fields on contacts is rarely visible in Outlook, but often shows when synced to a device..  Can someone point to something that says how to fix it, or something that says it's not supposed to do so?
Here's the longer version with details...
We use Outlook 2013 and 2010, mailboxes are hosted on our 2013 server and everything is synced via Activesync.  I have a local contacts folder in Outlook that is synced to an iPhone.  If I modify the Notes field for the contact on the iPhone, it
never shows up on Outlook.  If I modify it in Outlook, it never shows up on the iPhone.  If I modify it on the iPhone or Outlook, it shows up on an Android.  If I modify it on an Android, it shows up on Outlook and an iPhone.  Here's the
kicker...  No matter what I modify it with, it ALWAYS shows up in Outlook Web Access.
Please keep in mind that I'm referring to a contact in a contact folder in the users' mailbox, NOT a contact from the GAL.  We know the difference.
Can anyone clarify what's happening here?  I've got a user who's driving me nuts about this and she's high enough in the company that this issue will never "go away" without a satisfactory explanation.
    --smthng

    Was this ever resolved?
I have a similar issue with my iPhone iOS7 and Outlook 2013:
    1) If I add/change a note in Outlook, it will show up in the contact info on iPhone
    2) If I add/change a note on the iPhone, it will SOMETIMES show up in the contact info
    3) Some contacts on my iPhone have two different "note" fields, one of which does sync, and the other not.
I'm guessing the issue could be that some contacts have that second "note" field which is called something else in Outlook... but what?

  • How do I make Firefox Google Search text that is not a website when drag and dropped to a new tab or existing one

Exactly what the title says. Firefox did this before updating to 5 if I'm not mistaking. I want Firefox to Google search text when I drag it to the tabs bar (when an arrow pointing in between tabs appears). From there a new tab with the Google search should appear normally.

Title and description may be clear to you it is certainly not clear to me.
If I drag "title and description" which is not a url and try to create a new tab with it nothing will happen. I can drag that text to the the search bar and do a search.
If I grabbed a url which was text not shown as a link I can drag to the location bar, the new tab button, to a tab, between two tabs and that is all legitimate.
I can drag a ''[http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/kws.htm link]" without selecting it in the same manner the location bar, the new tab button, to a tab, between two tabs and that is all legitimate.
I cant see that you have lost what it sounds like you had because I don't think you would have generated a search in that manner. You can certainly drag something like a sentence to the search bar, so even if you were the only one that could do start a search by dragging text you can still drag it to the search bar.

  • Email contact note field is missing

I was going to add a note to one of my email contacts but cannot find the note field there.   Went and looked at others and cannot find the note field in any of my contacts.  Can anyone help me?

If you are using the Verizon webmail, there is not a space to enter general notes on contacts.

  • IOS 5 will not search "notes" field in Contacts

I just upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and I cannot search the ''notes" field in the Contacts App.
I work with a bunch of technicians and use the "notes" field to keep track of their expertise.  When I want to find a technician with a specific talent, I usually just search the notes field in the Addressbook program on my Mac.
But, searching within the Contacts App on iOS 5 apparently only searches within First/Last Names and Company Names.  iOS 5 will NOT search the "notes" field.
I have verified that this does not work on two other iPhone 4 phones.
Anyone have a solution?  Or can you at least verify that this is happening on both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S?

Alas, the searching of the contact "notes" field has never worked in iOS 5 or any previous version of iOS. It is baffling as to why Apple will not fix this issue. Worst of all, there is an ongoing dialogue about this since iOS 4 first came out. And most notably, the iOS search does successfully search the calendar "Notes" field, so why not the contact "Notes" field. So why oh why won't Apple fix this?  Whether for personal or professional use there are so many iOS users that rely on a quick search of contact notes for various purposes. And I don't want to use another app for this. I just want this to work as expected in iOS.
Lastly - as everyone continues to state, even palm pilot used to search contact notes. This must be easy to implement!
Dear Apple - please be insanely great and implement this contact notes search feature into iOS 5 ASAP.

  • Searching by Text inside Contact's Note Field

    Hi,
I have been a Windows Phone user all along. I am interested in switching over to Nokia.

    Suggestion:
6000 contacts - That's a lot. Before you get too carried away, I would add delimiters such as:
    [note]" & contentsof_existingnote & "[/note]" & return, AND
    [category]" & _category & "[/category]" & return
    You could then add other functions to your AddressBook note field. I do this regularly and have added;
[addressee2] to add a roomates, significant other, or spouse that wanted to keep her maiden name and want to formerly include on an invitation or xmas card.
    Mr. John Smith
Dr. Karen Jones, M.D. [addressee2, roomate, significant other]
    1234 W. 56th Street
    Anytown, ST, Zip
[spouse] spouse; review your contact list and greet them with "How is your wife Karen?"
[xmasprefix] mainly to add "Mr. & Mrs." to your contacts
[xmasfamily] include a personal touch; "and family"
    Others, [iphotolinks], [envelopegraphic], [envelopeAttn_]
    All kinds of possibilities here.

  • Spotlight does not search the notes field in contacts

I can't get spotlight to search the notes field in a contact. I think that this used to work a short while ago. Am I missing something here?

That's just how iOS is right now. You should try out the "Contact Notes" app. It's just $0.99 (in the US), and lets you display and search all your contact notes, all from one page. Here's a link to iTunes page: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/contact-notes/id396281211?mt=8
Full disclosure: I made the app.

  • How can I reliably search the "Notes" field in iOS?

I know this isn't strictly an Applescript question, but I've found that the level of knowledge in this particular section of the boards is WAAAAAYYY higher than other sections, so I'm gonna ask this here anyway. FWIW, it does involve AppleScript....
So I really miss the Palm style contact search by first initial and last name. So I wrote an applescript that runs nightly on my iMac and updates any new contacts to include this search term in the notes field. Actually, to be completely honest, some members of this forum wrote most of the script for me.... Anyway, for instance, Joe Smith has "JSmith" placed into the notes field.
Now, usually when I search my contacts like this on my iphone it works like a dream. But sometimes the expected contact does not appear. In those cases, if I open the contact a different way (by searching for "Joe Smith," for instance, I find the contact, open it up, and always find that "JSmith" is actually in the notes field. My Applescript is working like clockwork... that's not the problem. Once I close the Joe Smith contact and retry the "JSmith" search, it now works. What gives?
It's kinda like Spotlight is using a search index for the notes field but not the name itself? And the search index is not getting updated until I manually open the contact? But only on some contacte? Usually it updates itself just fine without my having to open the contact? And then today it failed to find a contact that has had the Palm-seach term in the notes field for at least three weeks. Once I opened it manually, though, it worked.
So... help! Is there a way to force the iphone to manually rebuild whatever database spotlight is using to search the notes field? What's going on?

I've turned on BOLD TEXT and turned on REDUCE MOTION but for me it feels like more than just the zooms in and out... I'm getting sick just reading emails and texts or just glancing at the lock screen. It's intant nausea. The only thing I can think of is that it's something to do with refresh rate or frequency of the screen.
I thought I'd just get used to it but it has not subsided. I only hope I don't have to resort to backgrading to iOS 6 or worse, moving to a different brand of phone.

  • New Address Book contacts insert leading space into Notes field

When I create a new contact from scratch in Address Book (4.1) the Notes field at the bottom contains leading spaces / tabs. (I can't tell which). This means that information I type in at the bottom looks unusually formatted. This behaviour (I seem to remember) was also in Tiger; although now I m using Leopard (10.5.2).
    2 questions:
    1) How can I get rid of this leading space / tab for new contacts?
    2) How can I get rid of this leading space for all existing contacts Notes' field.
    thanx!
    Diddles.

Ahh, I see. After you have entered the contact details, click the edit button to turn off editing mode before putting anything in the notes field. You don't need edit on to change notes.

  • Unable to edit "Note:" field in Address Book

I have updated to Mac OS X 10.6.4 one week ago (from 10.5.).
Now for the first, I am trying to edit the "Note:" field of one of my contacts, but I am neither able to add text, nor can I delete text.
I have 47 lines of text in that Note field and wanted to add a few words, but after typing it, it keeps disappearing after a few seconds. If I delete a few lines of text, they keep reappearing after a few seconds.
Editing the Note field (which has less lines of text) in another contact first exhibited the same behavior, but now works flawlessly.
Having the "Edit" button depressed or not, does not make a difference.
Address Book Help says that this happens when there is not enough disk space, but I have over 41GB left.

    Hello Marcus and others,
I have experienced the same issues with my Address Book (version 5.0). First things first, let me suggest you complete a back up of your address book:
    1. Go to the File drop down menu
    2. Click on Export
    3. Select *Address Book Archive* from the 2 choices
    4. Choose where you would like to store this back up. Let's just say the Desktop for now.
    5. Disclaimer, any unsaved data will be lost during this reset, so please back up all files you will need.
    6. After you have successfully archived your Address Book, turn off your computer.
    7. Now here's the important part, hold down the power button for at least 6 seconds or until you hear a loud sound or tone. This should reset your settings back to default.
This is how I just fixed the problem with editing the Notes of my contacts in my Address Book 5.0
Good luck and I hope this helps someone.

  • BB10 - Link does not sync new Contact note entries and crashes

    Hi - can anyone help.
Link 1.1.1.26 syncs new entries on both my Windows 7 PC and Q10 both ways, including any text in the Notes field. But adding or changing a Note to an existing entry does not sync.
In Link Settings I have Contacts (and Calender) ticked (blue box) but when I click on Configure next to either, to check the details of the sync, Link crashes and has to be closed via the Task Manager.
    Many thanks
    John Sansom
PS. Since writing the original post I have managed to get one set of Contact Notes to sync - from the PC to the BB - I was doing a manual Sync via Link. But it did not work the other way round on that occasion, and has not worked either way since that.

same with me. I have installes skype on pc and windows phone. the contact list is not the same?  some contacts are missing on one device and the other device.I have signed in on both devices with same microsoft account.lates skype version cheked.
