My macbook seems to be going crazy. At certain points (and for hours) I get the oh snap page on chrome, safari doesnt work, macbook wont let me create any files or for example upload music to itunes. I restored my mac so im sure its not a malware problem. The only thing that solves it is switching off and on , but sometimes I have to do that for 6-7 times before its ok or wait for a few hours. Some help please

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari doesnt work and software update wont open

i have os x 10.3.9 and my safari doesnt work anymore, as well as software update. does anybody know how to install it back onto the computer from the os cd? or where can i download safari 1.3 (full version)? the apple web site does not have it, it only has updates.

Try deleting the com.apple.Software update plist from Home/Library/Preferences. Safari can be reinstalled from your install disk. It may be listed under optional installs or custom installs. Safari 1.3 is terribly out of date and will crash on many sites. A better alternative is Camino which has the look and feel of safari and is quite stable.

  • My Safari doesnt work

    Hi Sir/Madam,
As captioned, my Safari doent work on my iMac after I installed the app "MplayerX", actually, while I installed it and found no any responded, thus, I put it into the trash, then open Safari and got no responded, no window will be open on screen, the top bar is freezed and the mouse was moved on that and held on loading image. I have trying many time to reset and restart my iMac and got no helpful. Could you advise me any suggestion to fix it out? would I re-install the Safari then the problem will be solve?

You probably installed the "Genieo/InstallMac" rootkit. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the tedious procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the rootkit (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data. You must know how to restore from a backup even if the system becomes unbootable. If you don't know how to do that, or if you don't have any backups, stop here and ask for guidance.
    Step 1
In the Applications folder, there may (or may not) be an application named "Genieo". Genieo may be partially installed even if this item is absent. If it's present, select it and open the Finder Info window. If it shows that theVersion is less than 2.0, download and install the current version from the genieo.com website. This may seem paradoxical, since the goal is to remove it, but you'll be saving yourself some trouble as well as the risk of putting the system in an unusable state.
There should be another application in the same folder named "Uninstall Genieo". After updating Genieo, if necessary, launch "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the prompts to remove the "newspaper-style home page." Restart the computer.
This step does not completely inactivate Genieo.
    Step 2
Don't take this step unless you completed Step 1, including the restart, without any error messages. If you didn't find the Genieo application, or if you couldn't complete Step 1 for any reason, stop here and ask for instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with an item named "GenieoExtra.framework" selected. Move that item to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password.
Move each of these items to the Trash in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib/usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. There's no need to restart after each one. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
    Step 3
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this software. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If youever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Genieo developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the perpetrator of the scam sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." He will tell you to run the provided uninstaller. As he knows and intends, the uninstaller does not completely remove the malware.

  • "Find in Files" does not show a "Search Text" area (10.1.3.0.4)

    I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4
I use the find in files constantly so this is slowing me down. When I get the dialog for "Find in Files" it doesn't show a search text input area. It seem like there is a way to search by selecting text in the current file, but that isn't as useful to me. Am I missing something really obvious?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi,
when you select the search in file option from the menu then this shows you a text field to type in the search string. Below are option to select where to search and which fiiles to search. This works fine on all releasesI've installed

  • Safari Doesnt Work with Joomla?

Hello! How can I make Safari work with Joomla. Some stuff, in the built in JCE Editor dont show up or are greyed out in Safari. Also insert image etc dont work. Does anyone kow of any Safari updates/java updates which may help these features work. I love surfing on Safari, and dont want to have to change my browser because of this.
    Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3)
    Mac OSX 10.4.8 PPC
    PB 1.5 Ghz, 1GB RAM

Posting my question in joomla boards makes sense, but sineits an open source thing, i wonder how many people will have worked n joomla who need to be told. I learnt from thier boards that it works well on mozilla based browsers, but not so well on konqueror based ones, like Safari, and maybe Safari and work on its backend a bit to accomodate. I used firefox on ac and it works fine

You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • Safari doesnt' work since I installed Yosemite

    Hi Guys,
I installed Yosemite 10.10 on my MacBook Air (13 pouces, mi-2011), and I can't now use Safari anymore. The application start but when I would like to click on shortcut (favoris) or plugg adress in search bar, nothing works. I installed Chrome and it's work perfectly !
    Any ideas ?
    Thx so much !

    Hi ...
A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help after an OS X upgrade.
Top left corner of your screen click the Apple   > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple  menu. From the drop down menu click:  Restart
    Then try Safari.
    About Safe Mode.

  • Safari doesnt work at most web sites, need to use firefox

more and more, firefox doesn't load web pages correctly, like yahoo videos, the blue qt circle spins snd spins, and the beachball locks everything up.  Why put an x in the url to interrupt, but it never works? using osx 10.5.8 and safari 5.06. very frustrating.  thinking of making firefox default browser as it seems to work more universally

    Hello, might try this...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • Why Safari  doesnt work well as well google chrome?

I am using Macbook pro intel 2.4 ghz, 8 gb ram and os x 10.8.3 downloaded. I always want to use safari because of icloud and for other apple apps on this but i cannot react my impulse as well as google chrome or firefox? how can i change this issue?

You can't, other than using another browser.
Why Apple has slipped to last place in the browser wars is beyond me, maybe because in the future it's not going to matter, you use Safari and can use nothing else perhaps.
My Firefox is the fastest with the broadband tweaks, loads a page in one second where Safari takes 1.5-3 seconds or more sometimes for some reason.

  • Keyboard doesnt work . two letters are typed at the same time

    Hi everyone!
my keyboard is working very strange.
When i press letter t , the w is pressed as well
The same happens with letter g ( s)
The same happens with letter b (x)
The interesting thing is that these letters are in different lines and they are all separated to to the one that is also pressed by 2 keys in the middle. It seems like it was forming a pattern or a circuit.
I took the keys out to clean them but they seem to be ok.
Help !!!!! what should i do?
    Bety

One possible reason is the battery is swollen and pressing up on the keys.
(Does you Macbook have a battery you can remove easily, the kind with a slot on the bottom to release the battery? If it does, remove the battery and test the keys using the power adpater.)
But I suspect this is a newer model, because the battery is on the left side (looking down on the computer), as are the misbehaving keys.
Suggest you make an appointment and ask an Apple genius to take a look. Diagnostics are free. If in fact you need a new battery they will do it for you. You only pay for the battery.

  • Highlighting searched text

    Hi,
I have a little parameterised report, with a search region and and reports region below.
So the user would lets say enter in a surname and press the Go button. Then in the report all of the records returned containing the search text are say coloured Red.
Let's say I search on the the string 'Ander' and press Go, in the results in the report I would see and the surname begining wiht 'Ander' and that text highlighted or in a different colour. Just to show the user what they have searched on.
I really hope I have made some sense.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Niels

    Hi Niels,
To alter the way the returned text looks to the user, you would have to alter the text.
    You could try
    replace(string_searched, string_searched_for, '<font class="my_highlight_class">'||string_searched_for||'</font>')Regards

  • I have an Iphone 4s running ios 7.0.4 and my wifi doesnt work!

After updating to ios 7.0.4 a couple of months ago, my wifi doesnt work.
First it wouldnt find any network or even if it did it connected for at most 3 minutes!
I decided to reset network settings and after that the wifi button just greyed out
I looked it up and saw a freezer fix so i tried it
It fixed it for only half an hour. I also saw the blow dryer fix but i dont have a blow dryer.
Now after several network resets, the wifi button has returned to normal but the wifi still doesnt work!

There are many threads on this forum about this issue. Do a forum search for "wi-fi greyed out" and see if any of the solutions therein will work for you. Best of luck.

  • On new version of Yahoo Beta, can't download pictures that come in text area of e-mails--it works in Safari.

Ever since I started on the new version of Yahoo, called Yahoo Beta, a couple of months ago, the only way I can get photos that come in the text area is to either use reply or forward, then the pictures are revealed. I've written and written Yahoo to no avail (I tried everything they suggested), but what's strange is, the downloads work fine on Safari, in the same version of Yahoo Beta. I've updated everything, emptied the Cache, etc., etc., and still cannot make the pics work on Firefox. And, by the way, they did work on the OLD version of Yahoo. Thanks for any help you can give.
    Carolyn H.

go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. You can enable the Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.
