Seasonal + Trend forecast calculation

all,
We are using Consumption based planning with MRP type VV and Forecast model - X and material master maintained as below.
For testing purpose, I have maintained past consumption for last 6 month as below screen shots.
When I execute forecast from Material master tab, I got basic values, MAD, safety stock & error total as below..
How System is calculating above values?. I have gone through the formula but didn't understood and also gone through below link but didn't get sna idea.
http://http://scn.sap.com/community/erp/post!input.jspa?containerType=14&container=2110&content Type
And How System calculate below corrected forecast values?
Please help to understand calculation.

Hello Mr,
Please check below link for seasonal trend calculation formula, Insert values and try to cross check result.
I hope this link helpful to you.

  • Weird "Trend" metric calculation in Tabular KPI

    Hi Experts ,
We have a tabular model in which we started designing the KPI to show Actual metric value vs its Target comparison by an Status indicator to know how good the metric has performed.  In the KPI calculation window of the tabular model , there are only
place holders to calculate Value , Status & Target but not for “Trend”  . Even though we didn’t code anything specific for “Trend” calculation , Under the newly created KPI we see the “Trend” along with  Value , Goal & Status . But the “Trend”
is behaving weirdly in the Tabular KPI, The trend indicator is being showed for every dimension attribute that is sliced with the KPI irrespective of whether it has Metric value or not.  I searched many websites to understand how this “Trend”  is
being calculated in a KPI , but none of them are able to throw some light on the “Trend” calculation. In this kind of scenario please suggest me a way to circumvent this issue.
How to hide the “Trend” indicator from the newly created KPI, as this I think we cannot define “Trend” calculation in tabular as in that of Multidimensional Cubes
Understand the reason why “Trend” is displayed in tabular models
Below is snapshot of our KPI when interfaced through Excel.
Can you guys please help on how to hide the “Trend” expression from tabular models. So that our users wouldn’t be confused by using unrequired metric in KPI.
    Rajesh Nedunuri.

    Hi NedunuriRajesh,
According to your description, since you haven't specified any expression for Trend calculation, you want to hide the Trend option. Right?
In Analysis Services Tabular, Value, Goal Status and Trend in KPI are based on the Base Value, Target Value and Status Threshold. No matter you specify a Trend Expression or not, the Trend box is always displayed in the KPI pane. And it will do the
calculation automatically. This is feature by design. There's no way to edit or modify it. So your requirement can't be achieved currently.
    I recommend you
a feature request at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer so
that we can try to modify and
expand the product features based on your needs.

  • Forecast calculated wrongly

    Hello Team,
The problem is that movement types 631/632 (deliveries to customer consignment stock) were not taken into consideration.
I added them manually, but the figures in MC94 after this transaction is not relevant to MB51. And that is the reason that forecast was calculated wrongly.
Could you please help me in this. Help will be appriciated.

How does the system calculate forecasting value in mrp while executing mp30.(the value in reflecting in material master)

  • S&OP factor calculation (alpha, beta, gamma)

    Hi gurus,
I´m trying to adap the automatic forecast selection in MC88 transaction to a graphic company scenario. They have several clients where they planned all the forecast for them, based on increase/decrease sales of each client. Today they are using the alpha, beta, gama factors but they still need to calculate the demand in a Excel spreadsheet and adjust the result in SAP.
    My questions are:
    - There´s any way to change the factors criteria? For example, if I want to increase the forecast for 2012 in 10% over 2011. If not, anyone knows a way to input this growing factor into the automatic forecast?
    - I already found the formulas for the alpha, beta, gamma, but it´s not didactic to explain to some users. Anyone knows where I can find a simple and objective explanation for this factors?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Felipe Tavares

    Hi,
It's your wrong assumption that clients are not using Forecast. Most of the Retails clients are effectively using forecast.
Without forecasting, Retail operation will not work at all.
A demand forecast is a prediction of the amount of each article / product that will be sold in the future. It's easy to see that inaccurate forecasts can cause major problems for your company. When forecasted demand is far below actual demand for a product, you risk running out of products and disappointing your customers. If forecasted demand exceeds actual usage, you'll probably be faced with large quantities of dead stock and slow-moving inventory.
For your company to be successful, your demand forecasts for products must be as accurate as possible.
    (a) Alpha is used in the basic value calculation
    (b) Beta is used in trend value calculation
    (c) Gamma is used in the Seasonal index calculation
The value for the parameters range from 0 to 1.   A higher value will place more emphasis on recent history. The parameters also control how reactive the forecast is to changes in historical patterns.
    This is FYI.

  • Best way to know correct forecast model - process chain set up with multiple forecast models

    Hi Experts,
I need your help in selecting best forecast model for our company. We have some of the models already used for our company, and because of multiple models used it is taking very long time for process chain to finish. There is no existing documentation available on which model was used why initially. Please help me to make out forecasting process smooth.
    - What is the best way to know, which forecast model is correct and should be used for our forecasting process.
    - In case multiple forecasting models are really required to be used, please suggest ways to optimally schedule them in process chain.
    - At times we get messages like "not enough data available" for specific model - any way to avoid this.
    - How to optimally use parallel processing profiles forecasting process in process chain.
    - Things which should be avoided.
Request your help, please share your experiences.

    Hi Neelesh,
There are many points you need to consider to redesign forecast process for your company/client.
You need to select the best suited forecast model first depending on the business. This has to be well tested & agreed by business users. Complexity will be an outcome of this exercise with business users. Best id to give then a brief intro on all available models & then help them selection the best one as per their requirement.
Auto selection models are generally more time taking & should be used only when you have no idea at all on the business/demand pattern.
Run time will depend how you are clubbing the CVCs to get the forecast generated & also parallel processing. For parallel processing profile you will need to do trial & error testing along with help from Basis team on how many free dial up processes are available.
Even you can run many forecast calculations in parallel if the product/cvcs are totally different. - As per my personal experience maximum run time reduction can be achieved here.
Daily run is not advisable except only for businesses where you have too much dynamism in demand planning i.e. you expect the demands to be changed overnight. Most of the companies run forecast on monthly basis or at weekly basis at the max.
"Not Enough data" will be a problem if you are having the irrelevant models used in forecast profiles. This means users are not bothered to maintain the needed data for he forecast calculations or they are not aware at all of the situation. Running such models on daily basis is not advised at all. Better users should use interactive forecasting & saving the results in such cases.
Just to give a crude example we get forecast calculated on monthly basis for approximately 4 lac cvcs in less than 3 hrs using moving avg, seasonal linear regression, seasonal trend, croston models. We use parallel profiles also everywhere with 10 blocks & 500 cvc/block.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have nay more questions & also the results using any of this.
    Regards,
    Rahul

  • Automatic forecast model determination

Hi everyone, I would appreciate a lot if you can help with the following problem: in order to apply the automatic determination of the forecast model in the materials master, what other requirements are neccesary, besides that the forecast model 'J' is placed in the forecast view?, since I've been carrying out some tests of this type of automatic forecast, and apparently it only results to detect trend and constants models, but not seasonal, although, for this last type of model, also I have dealed with fields in the forecast view of material master, such as Historial Periods, Periods by Seadon, Forecast Periods, and Model Selection. When I have an historical one of consumptions with seasonal flow, if I do it with automatic forecast model, it does not detect no seasonal flow, reason why it considers a constant model. However, if I place manually that the model is seasonal, the forecast works in a correct form.
There is something that I'm avoiding in the configuration or in the updating of the materials master?
From already thank you very much.
    Regards.
    Luis Carbajal

    Hi,
    Automatic model selection procedure 1 is used in forecast strategies 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55.
Automatic Model selection procedure  2  is used  in forecast strategy 56.
Procedure 1 executes Seasonal and Trend tests and  if neitehr of these are postive then constant model is checked. For  Procedure 1 , is to recommended to be used without outlier control.
Procedure 2 executes using Constant, trend, seasonal and seasonal trend model. For procedure 2, we  must remember that when you use the outlier correction, the results are not comparable with the results of the individual processes, since another procedure can be selected for the outlier correction than for the final forecast.
Linear regression and seasonal linear regression are added to automatic model selection 2 . In addition , a trend test, a seasonal test and a test of white nosie are  introduced in model selection 2.
*Further  the way series of tests are carried out is different for the two procedures and this is explained in SAP Help .

  • Forecasting Models in Demand Planning.

    Hi experts,
want to know in details and also to practice various forecasting models in Demand Planning, from beginning.
    please suggest.
    Regards
    Bhupendra

    Hi Bhupendra,
There are various forecasting models to use in business like automatic model and manual model as a broad category.
In detailed, there are models like constant model, trend model, season models, trend seasonal etc.,
Forecasting models are very simple and mostly based on STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES.  If you have sound knowledge in various statistical methodologies, it will be very easy to followup all the models.
Moreover, while selecting the best model for an organisation, one needs to study and identify the key performance indicators for improvement and accordingly the forecast model needs to be aligned.
The method to find this kind of model is the BEST FIT METHOD (it could be one or more or combo of it).
In demo systems or sandbox system, you can populate various data with various models and try to analyse the one which satisfies business requirements. You can also take the help of BUSINESS PLANNING ANALYSER to build the customised forecasting model which can be part of business side or from consulting side.

  • Coverage profile and Forecast profile together

    Dear all,
Can we use coverage profile and forecast profile together. What are the requirements for the same.
We are using coverage profile with following details
    No. of periods=20
    Type of period per length=1
Range of coverage in first period= 10
The forecast profile is set for
    Historical periods=12
    Initialisation period=2(Automatic,X)
    Periods /season=12
    Forecast periods=12
    with different weighting groups.
But whenever forecasting is executed with some historical data for the 3 profiles it is giving same forecast values for all 3 profiles with different weighting groups.
Also the MRP type used here is a copy of the PD MRP type and not VV or VS.
    Where can the problem lie?
    Regards
    Manisha

    Dear
Coverage Profile and Forecast profile are two different subject  !
If it is range of coverage profile , then The range of coverage profile contains the parameters for calculating the dynamic safety stock. This is a statistical calculation on the basis of average daily requirements. With the dynamic safety stock, you can determine a safety stock based on requirements and range of coverage. The dynamic safety stock adapts automatically to the changed requirements and is fully available for planning purposes. You can limit the quantities used in the calculation of the dynamic safety stock by defining maximum and minimum ranges of coverage. You can also limit the period of time by defining different time periods in which the range of coverage is valid.
I hope you are asking about saferty caverage profile,,here basicalli we are setting the system to see how the safety stock is to be covered and calculated.See the help link below and come back if required
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/f3/dbbb16b36111d1a6770000e83235d4/frameset.htm
    https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPLO/Dynamicsafetystock+calculation
Where as Forecasting Profile , please refer the below :
    Profiles
One more query : Also the MRP type used here is a copy of the PD MRP type and not VV or VS.
I think you should use Forecast Base MRP type like VV  rather PD.PD does not carry out any Forcasting Functionality .Please check wether you replicate PD from VV , then it is possible to execute Forecast specially Total Consumption set up in MRP type .
    Hope this will be useful

  • MM02 forecast periods

    Hi,
in mm02 in forcasting tab the forecasting periods where it will store that value,
or else how to get that value for perticular material,
    THX

    Hi,
    1. History periods:
The number of historical values the system uses for the forecast.
If fewer historical values exist in the system than specified here, the system includes all the existing values in the forecast.
If this field remains empty, no historical values are used to carry out the forecast. However, this is only possible in the case of manual initialization.
    2. forecast periods:
Number of period splits for which a forecast should be created.
    3. Periods per season:
Number of periods that belong to a season.
    Procedure
    You only specify a number
if the forecast model is a seasonal model
if you want the system to carry out a seasonal test
    4. Initialisation periods:
Number of historical values that you want to be used for initialization.
If fewer historical values exist in the system than specified here, the system includes all the existing ones.
If the field remains empty, no historical values are used to initialize the forecast.
    5. Fixed periods:
Number of periods for which the system will not recalculate the forecast values in the next forecast. The fixed periods start with the initial forecast period.
    Use
    You enter a value
in order to avoid excessive fluctuations in the forecast calculation or
because production can no longer react to changed planning figures in the specified horizon.
    Hope this helps.

what is the exact different between the above two?

  • SAP F&R:: Service Levels & Forecast Frequency

Hi, while modelling some user requirements, I have come to figure out some kind of a "dynamic" link between the service levels "determined" for a location-product and the forecast frequency assigned to the said location product. Please find my observations below.
    OBSERVATION
    1. To start with, I had assigned an experimental Service Level Profile with all Service Levels values set to 99.99%.
    2. However I find that for location-products which have a weekly forecast frequency as compared to those with a daily frequency, the system automatically/ dynamically determines a service level of 91.00, which is a value that is not maintained in the service level profile.
How does the system do this? What is the link between the forecast frequency and the service levels determined?
    Looking forward to some suggestions!
    Vismay Jani.

    hello,
you can define service levels for let's say different objects
    - selling class
    - ABC indicator
to simply the maintenance you can define a more "global/general" service level for each object.
the selling class is calculated/determined by each forecast calculation automatically. if the selling class changed an other service level will be considered by the next forecast calculation automatically.
there is definitively no difference between a daily and a weekly (or what ever) forecast frequency.
    regards, Hans-Georg
