Seasons pass TV show HD + Standard Def versions?

I recently purchased an HD seasons pass of the current AMC series "The Killing" It wants to download both the HD and standard definition versions of each episode. I placed all the standard def shows on hold in the download queue so that I'm only downloading the HD versions.
Is there a setting somewhere to indicate you only want the HD version or will it always download both HD and Standard def when you purchase HD programs. I'd prefer HD only since I'm under monthly data cap download limitations.

  • How come a season pass tv show, purchased on my iPad, auto load on my iMac, but cannot load on the iPad?

    Hi,
I bought Whale Wars on my iPad. I bought a season pass sd version. It no longer appears on my iPad. It auto loads on my iMac. I cannot sync it from my iMac to my iPad. I can view it on my iPad only by sharing with my iMac. but there is a sync of a different year of this show even though I did not set it to sync. Maybe it was guilty.
I also bought Ice Road Truckers on my iPad. It downloads after authentication to my iPad, but it is displaying two separate IRT icons.
Flying Wild Alaska does the same with two separate icons.
The crab fishing show, Dangerous Catch appears under four separate and equal icons.
    This is getting frustrated.
I have restored the iPad. No change. I restored the iPad as a new iPad and the tv show problem persisted. I restored it back.
    Any ideas out there.

    Hi,
It is me again. A week has gone by. I got an email saying Whale Wars was ready for download. Click here. Did that. The process asked for my password three times. It then showed it would download Whale Wars and then Flying Wild Alaska to my iPad.
It took the right amount of time to load to my iPad and then it started to load Flying Wild Alaska. But where did it put it?
Under videos there was no icon for Whale Wars. There were four icons for the Deadliest Catch, two icons for Ice Road Truckers, two icons for Flying Wild Alaska, and one icon for Mountain.
I went to the shared menu. There was no icon Whale Wars Season 5. In place was an Ice Road Trucker Icon that had Whale Wars Season 5 but not the latest show.
Flying Wild Alaska did load on the iPad and it played.
So I synced the iPad. With a number of spinning circles of death which iTunes solved all but the last one it kind of synced but it did not synch the latest show of Whale Wars. I had to force close iTunes and resynch. This time it synced the show. Now the show is on my iPad but no icon and I cannot see it. The show is on my iMac but it will not let me synch it back to my iPad. I can view the show under a shared selection on my iPad but if I walk out of wifi range forget it.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thank you,
    John Ross

  • Auto-download season pass TV show episode to Apple TV

Is there a way where I can set Apple TV to auto-download the latest episode of a TV show that I bought a season pass for?
The reason I need this is because, when I try to stream it, depending on the network speed, sometimes it takes a long time. So I have to set it to stream and then pause it in order to let it load up before playing it. I've noticed that network speed is much faster during the day when everyone is at work (so am I) so would love it if Apple TV downloads the latest episode and it is ready to play when I come home.

    patrix99 wrote:
But it must have some storage because I do play the episode, pause it to let it download at least halfway before I play it. So technically, it is not streaming it the way Netflix or Hulu does.
    Correct.
The black AppleTVs have 8GB of solid state memory.
Whereas Netflix adapts quality downwards for slower connections, iTunes purchases/rentals are fixed size and  quality for given resolutions (SD, 720p/1080p), so if your internet is slower than needed to play near instantly some/most/all of the movie will 'buffer' into that 8GB of memory, and the device calculates when enough has arrived to allow it to play without interruption.
The problem is that using AppleTV while a movie is buffering to do other things almost always flushes that buffe/downloaded portion without warning - forcing it to start from scratch when you decide to try to play.  The memory management is simply poor for slow connections -Apple assume everyone has fast/unlimited broadband.  The AppleTV1 was much better in this regard because it actually had proper storage and could hold several rentals.

  • Can't access purchased season pass tv show on apple tv

I have ATV 2 and just today for first time purchased the Breaking Bad season 5 season pass.
When I go to my 'purchased' tab under tv shows (on apple tv) it just gives me a 'can't access itunes store...try again later' message.
If I go to iTunes on my macbook pro, also cannot access purchased tab for tv shows.
Not sure what I need to do.  So frustrating.  How do I watch the shows that I paid >$20 for?
    Thank you for help.

Its looking like the store is down right now. I know 3 or 4 people have said that on here and I have checked with about 5 or 6 people I know and were all having the same issue. Hopefully it doesnt last much longer mine has been doing it for about 6 hours now.

  • Sound Cutting Out on Standard Def Channels with or wthout DVR

    Hi!
We are having occasional sound drop-out problems. They seem to only be happening on standard def channels although we have a hi-def box.  (We often record sitcoms and kids shows in standard def to save room on the DVR.)
The problem is that the sound cuts out for a fraction of a second (just long enough to notice) at random spots.  If we rewind and play it back, it still drops out in the same spot so it seems the issue is with the signal getting to the box from the outside line, not an hdmi cable issue as I've seen mentioned elsewhere.
The issue occurs whether we're watching a previously recorded show or a "live" one (understanding that even the live shows are delayed a few seconds to enable the DVR to record it).
I've seen other sound issues related to switching channels but this is not the case here.
I've also had it happen on a small TV with no box. We just have the coax going right into the display to watch standard def  network shows on it.  This leads me to think it's a signal issue, not a DVR one.
Anyone else have this and/or have any luck in getting it resolved?
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,
I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the sound on the Set Top Boxes. I sent you a private message to further assist you.

  • HD and Standard def - Same channel?

I notice a lot of the HD channels also have a matching Stadard Definition version.  It appears the content is the same.  Besides the marketing ploy of boosting the number of channels delivered, why not drop the Standard Def versions?  I personally will be making it so they are skipped (using Parental Controls if  ihave to) when browsing the channels.  Wouldn't mind not seeing them in the Guide as well.

The most obvious reason is that there are many installations that use SD only boxes (qip-2500 AND dct-700).  With the exception of the NY metro area, there is a major price differential between the SD boxes and HD boxes (from the users side).  The DCT-700 is $3.99 (not counting those of us who have them from the analog shutoff for free), the QIP-2500 is $5.99 and the HD (non-DVR) boxes are $9.99.  For multiple sets, that is a huge bump in monthly costs.  Also, it would require Verizon to have enough stock of the HD boxes to replace all the SD boxes.  There was a major supplier (Motorola) issue a while back.
For those that haven't made the move to HD (and no, I'm not one of those) they would say just the opposite - why not get rid of the HD channels, I can't use them !

  • Never received $25Titanfall Season Pass code

I've never had an issue at Best Buy like this before til now. I don't usually order Season Passes at Best Buy, but since I got the Xbox One Titanfall Console Bundle, I decided to ordered the Titanfall $25 season pass back on March 11, 2014. The cashier told me the code would be e-mailed to me within 24 hours. 24 hours later, I never received any e-mail. I decided to wait it out for a few days.
About the 5th day, I decided to call the 1-888-Best-Buy number, the person that answered basically told me that she couldn't do anything about it because I purchased it in the store and that I would have to the store. So I called up the store and they told me that they can't do anything about it and that I would have to call that same 1-888-Best-Buy number and if they won't do anything again that I can go to the store and talk to the Manager. I decided to call the number again and I talk to someone else who then directed me to another department that then directed me to a different department.
The guy I talk to this time mumbled a bit and I couldn't understand him but he told me that he was going to send me another e-mail with the code and it would take 24-48 hours to process and he also gave me a reference number. So I waited. After 72 hours, I called that 888 number again and the person I talked to told me that the code I ordered was a Pre-Order item. Wait... What? And that I should be getting the code after 24-48 hours. Again!? So I waited again. And now after another 72 hours, I received nothing. Not only that, I checked my bank account and it looked like Best Buy already took my $25, and I received nothing.
I just tried calling the number again and it told me that the estimated wait time was around 10 minutes, I waited almost 15 minutes and no answer. So I decided to give this a shot. I never been this upset with Best Buy. I feel like I should have never even purchase this season pass at Best Buy if this is what's going to happen. Please, can someone help me out. I have the original receipt and the reference number the guy over the phone gave me.

    Hey mralbeezie,
Based on what you mentioned and available details, it sounds as though you may have purchased the Xbox 360 version of the Titanfall Season Pass instead of the Xbox One version. This content will not be released until the Xbox 360 version of the game is available on April 8th, so you will need to return to your local store and request an exchange if you need the Xbox One version.
With that in mind, I was disappointed to hear of the difficulties you encountered obtaining an answer on this issue. It shouldn't take multiple phone calls and trips to your local store to find out what's happening with digital content you purchased, and I'd frustrated too if I found myself in a similar situation. Rest assured that the appropriate teams will have the chance to take advantage of this training opportunity.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • ITunes won't let me download SD version of TV shows on my iPod Touch when I am a HD season pass holder

Hello, I have the 4th gen iPod Touch and I purchased the HD season pass for Supernatural Season 8 from iTunes on my computer. I downloaded the HD version of the Comic-Con 2012 Supernatural Panel, which was part of my season pass, to my computer. As an experiment, I wanted to see if I could directly download the SD version of it from iTunes on my iPod Touch. When I clicked the icon to download, it allowed me the choice of downloading SD or HD to my iPod Touch. Now, a week later, episode 1 is available and I downloaded the HD version to my computer but when I tried to download the SD version from iTunes on my iPod Touch, it automatically downloads the HD version without providing me the choice to get the SD version. Is there a glitch with my iPod Touch software or did an update happen that I wasn't aware of? I hope someone has encountered the same issue and knows a way to directly download the SD version from iTunes on the iPod Touch without having to sync with a computer. Thank you.

  • TV Shows Season Pass New Episodes Gone from Check for Available Downloads

I was informed today from iTunes Support that new episodes that become available will no longer come through the Store > Check for Available Downloads option in iTunes.  If you notice in your email alerts for the new episode's availability, it now says the new episode is found in your Purchased items in Itunes in the Cloud.
I was also told that if I checked the options "show iTunes Purchases in the Cloud" in iTunes > Preferences > Store tab, that I could just see the new episodes in my Library under TV Shows.  I used to have this option and could access the new episodes and download them this way, but that option is now GONE as well from iTunes.  I am awaiting feedback from my Senior Support Rep as to what is wrong there.
I have been simply going to the iTunes Store > Purchased > TV Shows and clicking the "Not on this computer" option in the upper right.  I have to go show by show and click "Download" or "Download All".  I have almost 15 Season Passes at any one time.  This is a completely horrible way of downloading them.
When the new episodes were evailable via the "Check for Available Downloads" Option, I had my iMac scheduled to restart every morning around 4am Central.  That was about 2 hours after the date/time stamp of the email notifications.  Since iTunes was always set to start at login, it would automatically check for available downloads, and then download all the new episodes.  I then had a cloning process scheduled that would clone my primary iTunes Media drive to a backup iTunes Media drive.  That way if one fails I always have an up to date copy.
This new method totally screws up how slick this whole process worked.  I understand streaming and the cloud is the direction they are taking here, but this is completely an about face.  I want the new episodes available locally.  I want it downloaded when I am asleep and always available locally when I want to watch.  That way I dont have to worry about my internet availability.  Storm can knockout my internet.  The construction down the road can cut the optical cable.  I may loose my internet due to a problem with the ISP.  Having the files locally allows me to watch them worry free, buffer free, and when I want to.
I urge those who are annoyed by this change to provide feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I really hope this decision to remove this functionality is not a sign to come.  Next I will be downloading each song one by one when I buy an album because I can just stream it in the cloud.
I love my Apple products and servies.  But this totally makes me hate them right now.

I am so angry right now I can not even see straight.  So the "Show iTunes Purchases Option" out of the blue showed up in iTunes this morning. I dont know if a reboot fixed it or what. But the attached screen shows the lack of that feature along with the iTunes version.
So I am not freaking crazy.  So I turned it on this morning to pick up 3 new episodes.  I get home tonigth and sit down on my couch with my Apple TV ready to roll... and it has completely screwed my "watched" vs "unwatched" episodes.  I come to my iTunes library on my iMac and sure enough TV Shows and Movies I know I have not watched or started are marked as watched.
I have not watched a single episode of The Following Season 1, and it basically shows I have watched all but the latest 4 shows.   I have not watched the last several episodes of Revenge, and it says I have not watched only the last episode.  I am guessing as to where I left off, but it looks like Episode 13 was the last episode I watched and iTunes said I had only not watched Episode 19.  Vikings Season 1 - I have not watched a single show, but it shows I have watched all but the last 2 episodes, 8 & 9.
Movies - I have bought and downloaded many movies that I have not watched as of yet.  For instance: Django Unchainted, and all 3 Matrix Movies.  I have watched a couple of the Matrix movies but not all the way through.  But I had gone back and marked them as "unwatched"  Everything else I had not even touched to hit play or nothing.  These are all purchases.
I hunted down all the episodes and movies I knew I had not watched... which took me quite a while... and then when I close and re-open iTunes and at least the watched/unwatched TV shows stayed as I marked them.  This was not the case when this feature was first rolled out with iTunes 11.  That is exactly why I never used this feature in the first place.  Time will tell if it remains stable with the watch/unwatched situation.
Regardless, I am so tired of taking time out of my day and writing iTunes support and giving Apple feedback so they can perhaps look into it and see if its a larger issue than just my library.  So they can also maybe realize that some of us actually love their product and want to see them continue to working awesome, slick, and incredible. But as someone who is looking at 8 active season passes.... I may never buy a season pass from iTunes again.  The reason why EVERYONE still has a TV antenna and/or cable is because the basic concept of how you watch the programming DOESNT CHANGE.   They should take this feedback simply as TV shows are not like Movies and Music.  TV shows happen weekly.  Having a consistent and repeatable process to get the shows and watch them each week is paramount.
I am usually very good with change and enhancements.  But this one.... has completely made me an irate Apple Customer.

  • How can I download standard definition versions of shows I already own?

iTunes had a seizure so I had to quit out before it finished downloading everything.. when I turned itunes back on, it was no longer downloading the standard definition versions of the tv show I had just bought the season of, only the HD versions.
How do I get the SD versions now?
Why can't I go straight to Apple for a solution to this..? It seems ridiculous to ask the apple community for advice on fixing an issue that Apple themselves should be the ones fixing.

It seems the policy of automatically downloading both HD & SD versions has changed. In future you'll get your preferred format, but the other should be available via iTunes in the Cloud.
Go to Store > Purchased > TV Shows. Untick Download HD when available, then download the SD episodes you require.

  • HT203167 i purchased a tv show season pass and it is not showing up in my itunes account

i purchased a tv season pass and it isnt showing up in my itunes

I always check email for a confirmation of purchase before I worry- and I did get one. But apparently ( not like normally) this last pass purchase I made had some kind if delay in showing up as purchased on ATV. Half an hour later- there it is.... Which is good sine I had to answers on what to do other than restart again. If it doesn't show in yr acct or have a receipt- id rebut it. It's easier to get them to refund a duplicate than search for the invisible.

  • ITunes TV Show Season Pass Issues - How is it working for you?

I love iTunes Season passes.  I love letting a show accumulate without worrying about storms, sports messing up recording times, power outages, storage of my DVR, etc...  The shows are always going to be there to watch.  However for well over a year ago Apple removed the new TV Show episodes from coming via the Check Available Downloads option.  Since then we have had a plethera of options presented to us.  However I continue to have mixed results.  I have tried using my Apple Care to get support.  But since its more like a cloud or iTunes issue, they send me to the web which is nothing but email support.  Email support suggests these 4 methods.  3 out of the 4 rarely work for me in a reliable or timely way.  I am looking for those who have the same issues/challenges and understand if you have found a better way or even a root cause why I am getting these results.
First method is using the email notifications you can turn on when you manage your season pases via iTunes Account inside the iTunes application.  You click the email link, it launches Safari, Safari launches iTunes, in a few seconds you get a "Cancel" or "Download" pop up in iTunes.  You click download and it will download the show.  You must repeat this for each email notification/show... daily.  It can be hap hazard as the notifications sometimes come at 2am and others throughout the next day.
Second method is going to iTunes store in iTunes, click on TV Shows, Click on Purchased... and there you can select "not on this computer" to see what episodes are new and not downloaded yet.  This is actually fairly straight forward and easier than the email links.  However I am having an issue where even though I have the notification, the show does not show up in my purchases.  If I switch over to "shows" vs "seasons" I see the episodes from all my email notifications.  But generally only the behind the scense have the icloud download icon.  (see attached screen shot) The work around is to go to the TV show page itself for that season, scroll and use the download button there for each new epiosde you have not downloaded.  This is probably now less optimal than the email.
Third method is to enable "show iTunes in the Cloud purchases" via iTunes Preferences.  I dread it evertime its suggested I try this.  When I enable this option, all shows and movies marked as "unwatched" get marked as "watched."  Right now, I have a large number of episodes unwatched right now.  So it would be ALOT to clean up to try it again.  When I have used this, its by far the easiest to use (besides the former retired "check for available downloads" option.  You just go to your TV Shows in your library, unwatched tab, and just click the download icons.  You dont even have to leave your library.  However there seems to be a bug.  I suspect it has something to do with my machine sleeping and the internet connection dropping and not re-establishing before iTunes is trying to reconnect.  The end result is the iTunes in the cloud preference disappears or gets completely reset.... and it totally messes with your unwatched and watched shows.  I have showed it to an Apple Care rep as they were connected to my machine.  They couldnt believe it.  So I would REALLY love to know if anyone has tried this method recently and NOT had these issues.  Its a good hour of work if it does not work cleaning up the after math.  So feedback would be welcome.
Fourth option is instead of downloading, stream it.  This is not my preferred method because I sometimes will rewatch an episode multipe times due to distractions from work, shool, or re-watching it later with a friend to catch them up.  Once I have it downloaded, the critial path is limited to my home network. However I never really have issues with long buffering and streaming because I have a 50mps up/downlink internet.  The issue I am running into this method is sometimes the newest episode is not showing up in AppleTV > TV Shows > Purchases > Recent for that TV Show and Season.  It will eventually make it there... but I am not sure what the secret sauce is for it to become available.
I am doing my best to keep this to a civil request for feedback from fellow users and fans of the TV Show Season Passes.  I would even welcome an Apple response.  I am currently trying to get iTunes support to look into these again.  But I keep getting looped into one of the four options with each email exchange.... even though I have already explain, provided screen shots, etc...  Its sort of exhausting when you are stuck with email as your only path to explain and help.  Especially when you spent the money on Apple Care.  Perhaps I need to just make an apppointment at my Apple store so I can SHOW them what happens.  But that is a pain to lug in a 27" iMac and a 6TB thunderbolt drive.  FEEDBACK welcome!

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem on Windows and Mac, neither automatically download episodes from any of my season passes, nor do they find it when I select "Check for available downloads,"  it informs me all episodes have been downloaded for my Apple ID, which in fact they have not.
I have to find the episode in my Library(which shows all available episodes on my computer and in the iTunes Store) and from there I have to manually click to download.  I tried deauthorizing all my computers and reauthorizing just one computer, and that didn't work either.  I also deleted my other device(iPad) from the "iTunes in the Cloud" just in case there was some issue associated with that, and that didn't work either.
It’s sad that the iTunes rep didn't really "listen" to what you said.  I find this happens at many other companies too.  They often are trying to fit your problem into some prepared script or solution, or they are distracted or in a hurry and don't actually read or listen fully to an even well defined account of the problem.
Best of luck to us all!  Hope they fixed it soon.
