SEC Network Part Deux

Since someone marked the previous thread regarding the addition of the SEC Network to Verizon FIOS as "solved", the discussion seems to have dropped off. Some may be quite satisfied with the outcome (especially those in Texas and Florida) that left SEC fans nationwide with only channel 75 in SD. While I am grateful that we are at least getting channel 75, I believe it is important to consistently voice our desire to have an HD channel.
There have been some developments here in the Southern California (Pomona feed). We now get the alternate channel 332 SD, which we didn't have last week. That's a plus. Whether or not this is true elsewhere is unknown because no one is reporting progress in their areas.
I am not advocating rants and rage as a means to achieving the goal of SECN HD, rather, to keep the issue alive in a persuasive if not creative manner. Back in the day, folks used to chant "I want my MTV".
Well, I, for one "want my SECN HD".
Interestingly enough, I was watching something blurry on SECN SD earlier today that was a documentary of sorts that had all sorts of people from around the country talking about their experiences in the SEC. Whether they were students or atheletes or the children thereof, they went on and on about how great the memories and experiences were. There were some recognizable celebritiy types in the mix. It just reinforces the fact that WE ARE EVERYWHERE.
To paraphrase Field of Dreams (if  you build it they will come}....if you put it on the air (preferably in HD) they will watch.
Keep it alive folks, keep it alive.
And dare I say,
War Eagle!

Little birdie told me that the SEC is coming in HD for everybody this week or next. Guess we'll see if I can trust this little birdie or will need to feed him to my cat.

  • SEC Network/sports networks

I know that down south SEC Network is offered; however, considering you offer the Big 10 network and the Longhorn network nationwide I don't see how a network for such a huge fanbase isn't offered.  Especially for the Ultimate Package.  Can we please get more sports channels, especially in HD?

Verizon Fios needs to add the SEC network so we can watch decent football games. How laughable is it that the carry thr LHN that nobody watches but have not yet signed up to carry the SEC network?

  • SEC Network not in HD?

What the heck?  The empty channel slot is there for 575, but only the SD channel is active, and it looks like crap.  How can this be?

WatchESPNapp updated for SEC Network - HD Report                If you have a compatible device like a Chromecast or appletv Amazon FIRE Roku or XBOX then you can get the watchespn app and stream it to your big screen in HD no matter where you're at.   It's also available for mobile devices in general Apple and Android.

the wifi router could also be blocking
and to really test if the windows firewall is the problem then try turning it off!
if that scare you too much then disable the internet modem / cable modem or the likes while you test
always remove more and more factors when troubleshooting sooner or later it will work and you can narrow down which factor did the job and work on that

  • Problem connecting MBP to established Linksys wireless network (Part 2)

Thanks to all who followed part 1 thread. I have been trying to wirelessly connect my new MBP 2.16 to my established linksys BEFWS11S4 network. I gave up on 128 encryption for now, MBP couldn't take it.
by playing with the setting and manual config I can get the MBP to connect to the linksys network, (I even see the mac on my Win XP's DHCP master table). In the network utilities I get a green status light. when i run diagnostics i get a green airport, airport settings, network settings and ISP. STill red are "internet" and "server". no conncetion with safari...
I know the MBP works becuase i was able to connect to my neigbors wireless network and will work when I hard wire it through built-in ethernet.
Anyone know why the airport wouldn't work here? any thoughts appreciated I have spent way to many hours on this......

OK so your router is issuing IP addresses. However, I would say there is definately something wrong with your router's config. Maybe your DHCP server on your router is switched off? Anyway by adding your own IP address that is half the battle, as you need more than an IP address to connect to the internet, that's why you can see it in the list but cannot connect to the net. When a computer is set to DHCP it sends out a message to any DHCP servers requesting an IP address, if it gets no response in a set time, it issues itself an address, like yours is doing, the address will probably look like this: 169.254.14.192, it's called an APIPA address (Automatic Private IP Addressing)
You see a router uses a NAT (network address translation) so that from the internet all the machines connected to your router would show the same IP address which would be the one supplied by your ISP. For this to work, each machine on your network needs to have a default gateway, which is the IP address that your outbound traffic goes to. If your router is not issuing an IP address then it's probable that it's not issuing this data also, so you can add it yourself.
On your windows machine, go to a command prompt Start>Run type cmd and press enter, then type ipconfig /all press enter, it will show you the IP address of your PC, your subnet mask and your default gateway. I am going to assume that your IP address is in the 192 range as most Linksys are. So let's say your IP address of your router is 192.168.1.1 (on the new ones they tend to go with 192.168.1.15) so whichever yours is, that is your default gateway, as that's the address of your router. So your PC may have 192.168.1.100 as it's IP address.
On your Mac go to the System preferences>Network and the TCP/IP tab and select manual setup in Airport. Type in an IP address like 192.168.1.101 (or one up from your PCs IP address, then type in the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 if that is the same as your PC and then where it says Router (this is the default gateway address on a Mac), type in the default gateway here. Select apply and that should now connect to the internet.
I would only use this until you can resolve your Router's issue. Maybe you can call them back and tell them your router is not issing IP addresses. Or get a friend to try his laptop and see if he gets one. If not then you know it's your router. I would bet money that it's your router, that's why you can connect to your neighbours but not yours. Also remember if you keep the manual setup if you go travelling, remember to change it back to DHCP or you wont be able to pick up any hotspots. You can save a TCP/IP setup on a Mac so you could save the setup and name it and when you go travelling change to default, or auto.
Let me know how you get on.

  • Plagued by drop frames - Part Deux!  Can you guys help again?

Ok... I spoke too soon. The drop frame errors are back again! This time, I have documented when and where they happen and some "quirks" that go along with it.
1 - Problem happens even when RT is in Safe with frame rate and video quality set to low. Video clips have a 3 band color correction and proc amp filter engaged.
2 - Seems to happen when I add chan 3 and 4 a stereo music track. The track is converted to aiff in itunes and then placed into the capture scratch folder, then imported into a bin and placed on the timeline.
3 - One way to get the problem to "correct" itself is to click on to the desktop and then click back into FCP. The problem will correct itself but eventually freeze up again.
4 - As some members will attest, I have tried everything short of a full system restore. The drive media is captured to is a sata 73200 rpm drive (more than half full) that is on the lower "B" bus of the internal. The "a" bus is the OSX operating drive. No media is on it.
5 - I have trashed prefs, tweaked environmental settings and swung a dead cat at the tower. Same problem is intermittent. Just when I think I have done something that seems to fix the problem, it comes back usually when I add chan 3 and 4.
6 - I am capturing audio and video in the same file on the same drive. Should it be separated? Should drive be partitioned?
7 - What about "limit data rate" I heard it isn't needed unless on a network.
Should I call a priest or what?
    matt

Your configuration doesn't make sense - DV is 720x480 and 29.97 fps. But, having said that, it doesn't matter so much so long as your sequence settings match your clip settings. Or, to put it another way, if you up your settings to High (for Playback Quality) and Full (for Playback Frame Rate), do you get some type of render line? Green? Yellow? Orange?
After having skimmed through the previous thread you started, you just might be having some type of issue with how the files are (physically) written on your hard drive. The only surefire way to correct that is to copy your media files over to a third drive, use Disk Utility to wipe you media drive (format Mac OS Extended), then copy your media files back over your freshly formatted media drive. (and I know that's not a quick procedure but, hey, it beats throwing your G5 out of a window
Before you try that though, can you tell us what your real-time audio settings are in your User Preferences?

To get you previously downloaded iTunes U tracks to appear in the new iTunes U section, you need to change the media kind for the tracks. It looks like this was a new field added in this latest release. Select all the iTunes U tracks. Then right click and select "Get Info". On the Options tab you will see a field labeled "Media Kind". Change the value to "iTunes U". The tracks will now show up in the iTunes U section. Should be the same thing for podcasts as well. Just pick the value of "Podcasts".

  • How to use Print Screen function (part deux)?

The previous thread for the Print Screen function has been marked as read only, and won't allow any replies. I tried all of the suggestions (PrtScr, CTRL + C + PrtScr, etc.) and then CTRL V into MS Paint, but Print Screen still doesn't work on my machine.
I'm running Win 7 on a HP Pavilion laptop cv7-6b32us. I suspect there's a switch somewhere in Win 7 or HP that allows the key to be turned off. I know of this because my previous employer did not want anyone doing print screens due to HIPAA violations. Thus, the functionality was turned off. Those of us in I.T. were provided a third-party software that aloowed us to do the same function, but it was not released to the physicians or nursing staff. If I have to, I'll go out and buy the software. I really need this functionality for a class I'm taking.
    Thanks!

  • Dealing with special characters in  PHP part deux

Something else is confusing me about special characters.  I am doing some troubleshooting/maintenaince on my files. On one files I have my navigation bar on a separte file and use the include function to use it.
For the other file, I took the include out and just copy and pasted what was in the inculde file directly on to the file.
The words that contain special characters in the include appear funny in the browser. However the menu that is not included (but copied from the include) appears normal.
    Any thoughts?
One is copied and pasted from the other, yet the look different

Sorry, my head's been swimming today:

  • % Variance Calculation Headache! Part Deux

Hi EveryoneThanks to everyone who posted on the original thread. For some reason I couldn't add any more posts! (don't know why).Got around the aggregation problem through the cost centre hierarchy using the following calc script...SET UPDATECALC OFF; "Ave Occ %"= Occupancy % Availablebeds; All was smiles, until I looked at the time dimension! It now aggregates the % through the months.Works fine in the Time Dimension with a Dynamic 2-Pass formula of...Occupancy%Availablebeds;Anyone know how to combine the 2!Have a great weekendTaMarkPS A big thank you to EssbaseBird, your a Startlet! ;o)

Gary's suggestions is pretty much what I'd suggest ...If not, any dynamic calcs in your time dimension? or something which is changing the order of the calc on the retrieve?

  • NIO and port scans - Part Deux

Earlier today I posted a problem I'm having with NIO dealing with port scans. I fixed the problem, but not I'm having a different problem.
I'm running a client/server app, working on the server. I make the connection to the server and do everything normally, everything's fine. However, if I make the connection and drop it in the middle the Selector just goes crazy and gets into an infinite loop and consumes vast amounts of system resources. It's like it's not paying attention to see if there's an IO on SelectorKey. It just does it's select() and keeps on going.
Does anyone know how I could tame the beast?
    Thanks

Unfortunately for you, you felt compelled to cross-post this, so you're just wasting people's time.

  • Unable to Send Mail - Part Deux

I posted a question yesterday on my inability to send mail to some email addresses. As I mentioned yesterday, I had placed an Ad in Craigslist, and have received several responses. I am unable to respond to those emails through Mail. When I try, it "freezes", and I have to do a Force Quit to get out of Mail.
Yesterday I had only one response to the Ad, and it was thought that it was because the senders ISP was having problems, but I received two other responses from different ISP's, and the email "freezes" like before.
I contacted my ISP, and he suggested that I try to reply to those emails directly through my ISP's website. I tried that, and the emails were sent out OK. We went over my settings in my account and everything was good there.
I did a "Rebuild" in Mail, and that didn't make any difference.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jim

I had a similar situation with mail being sent to Verizon addresses through Comcast. Verizon users were not getting my emails so Comcast reset or tweaked the settings and now all is fine. Funny, Comcast said it was a Verizon problem and visa versa. Try your ISP first.

  • Implementing interfaces and packages part deux

Ok, I've been reading some more posts, and it seems like a lot of people have the same issues as I have right now.
One suggestion that i read was to go into the directory that is the package name.
That is if everything is in package Grid, then go into ./src/Grid directory and then do a javac *.java
when I do that, all my code, even the one that implements an interface will compile. But when I don't do *.java within the /Grid directory, and lets say I am in the ./src directy and I do a javac Grid.Cell (where Cell is the class name), the program will not compile. Why is that...I haven't found a good answer as to why this isn't working yet. Please please help.

I wont get into your directory structure bcz its makin me dizzy..
    hopefully it is ok.
can you see a difference between these 2 lines that you say you have tried:
javac *.java <<<< u said compiles
    javac Grid.Cell <<<< u said doesnt compile
    Two things come to mind:
1.javac needs the .java extension to compile
2.you need to be IN the directory where the source is to compile
    k?
    try it...
