Second Airport Express doesn't show up in Network

I have an Airport Extreme and an Airport Express used to extend the wireless network. I bought a second airport express to extend the network in another area of weak signal. I appear to go through the setup procedures correctly but it never gets to the final setup and does not show up in the airport utility. I get this message: The settings for this AirPort wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the AirPort wireless device. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again.
The light is green on the ae...
any ideas?

Try a hard reset on the Express by holding in the reset button until the amber light begins to flash more quickly, keep holding when you see this for another few seconds and then release.
Move the Express near your computer and temporarily, connect to is using an ethernet cable
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab to name the device, assign password and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same as your main network
Check mark next to Allow Wireless Clients
Wireless Security = Same setting as your main network
Password = Same as main network
Confirm Password
Click the Music icon to check to see that AirTunes is enabled. It should be by default.
Click Update to save settings
After the Express has restarted, you can disconnect the ethernet cable and move the Express back to the desired location.

  • AirPort Express doesn't show in AirPort Utility any more/won't connect to network

I have an older airport express that I use wirelessly with an AirPort Extreme to extend my network and stream music via AirPlay.  Within the last couple of days it has been unable to join the network.  It has always worked just fine until now.
The Airport Express powers up, flashes green once, then goes to amber flashing and stays that way forever.  The Airport Express does not show up in AirPort Utility at all.
I have tried soft, hard, and factory resets to no avail.
    The Airport Express info:
    Model A1084
Can't check firmware version beasue it doesn't show up in Airport Utility
The Airport Extreme Info (which is working perfectly fine):
    Model A1143
    Version 7.6.4
    Any further suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dawn

Mavericks (Apple) will not let you run an older version of AirPort Utility on Mavericks.
So I've just discovered.  Unfortunately I don't think booting from my older OS is going to work either, as it appears that 6.3.2 is also what I have installed there.
Doesn't make sense to me still, though, as I upgraded to Mavericks on day 1, but the Airport Expressed worked fine until yeterday.
I have a roomie with a PC.  Will see if we can configure it on his computer.

  • Printer connected to AirPort Express doesn't show up on iPhone

I recently bought an AirPort Express knowing that I could be able to use my basic printer with it and print from my iDevices wirelessly even thogh it is not AirPrint enabled. The Airport Express is supposed to be a wireless link from my iDevices to my printer so I won't need to buy an expensive AirPrint modeled printer. So I've set up the AirPort Express and connected my printer to the USB port. The AirPort has recognised my printer and shows up in AirPort Utility on my PC. I go onto any one of my iDevices and when I choose the print option it says no AirPrint printers could be found. The Printer shows up in AirPort utility on my computer but it's nowhere to be found on my iDevices. Please help, someone!

Unfortunately, this is not correct.  You need an AirPrint compatible printer connected to your network wirelessly to be able to print directly from an iOS device.
See this Apple support document for a list of AirPrint compatible models:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
As wuzradioman mentions, you may be able to use a separate App like Printopia to allow an iOS device to print to a non-AirPrint printer. There is a free trial, so you will know in a few minutes whether or not it might work for your purposes.

  • Airport Express doesn't connect to wireless network after firmware update

    Hi,
I just updated the firmware on my Airport Express to 6.3 and now it will no longer join the network. I have tried reseting to the factory defaults and Airport Utility accepts all the information and shows the unit with a green dot next too it. However, the unit is still flashing amber and in the final step where the Utility tries to save the configuration the update fails and I get the following error message:
An error occurred while reading the configuration.
Please make sure your AirPort base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753).
I am using an old style AirPort Extreme as a base station.
    Can anyone help?

Wow, really no suggestions yet? This is a first for me, on the Apple Discussion boards!

  • Second AirPort Express not showing up in AirPort Utility

I got a second AirPort Express (APE) to extend my wireless in a different direction from the first but I have not been able to get the new one to show up in the AirPort Utility.
Here are some of the things that I have tried based on my research so far:
-Unplugged APE and waited 30 seconds then plugged it back in
-Pressed reset button untill light blinked, this caused the light to stay solid amber for several seconds then it started slowly blinking again
-Plugged in to Time Capsule with cable, this allowed me to configure the second APE but once I disconnected the cable it still would not connect wirelessly
-Disconected the first APE and "forgot" it in the AirPort Utility, still not able to set up 2nd APE
Did I get a bad unit?

    Answering my own post ...
I first directly connected the AX to the iMac using the ethernet cable, and was able to configure the AX (not sure that I actually had to do this, as my issue was probably due to poor signal strength - as described later). I then moved the AX back to the living room, and was able to connect again, but soon it was dropped. Determined that the signal was weak. I played with positioning the AX to optimize signal, and now am able to get OK signal (only about 1/3 strength, based on number of bars in "fan" shaped icon in menu bar). Was able to stream iTunes to stereo as well, which is great. Also determined that the 2WIRE system that Airport was trying to set up WAS my neighbor (and not my gateway/router). If you don't see "Apple XXXXX" base station and network listed when you are in Airport Admin Utility or Internet Connect (which I didn't, but since I was using 2WIRE gateway/router, assumed that it was my AX when the 2WIRE appeared in the Airport network connection option), then the AX is not properly set up (weak signal or other problem).
So, with the AX in the living room (front of the house), and the iMac in the sun room (back of the house), I am able to get OK, but not great signal from AX. So far, seems to be sufficient to connect to internet and stream iTunes. I may see if I can reposition the AX on the other side of the living room wall, but that will then require running a long cable to connect to the stereo.
Bottom line: 50ft. range of AX may be reduced when used in old (1920's era) houses (thick, plaster walls). Actual distance between AX and iMac is probably 30-40 feet, though they are separated by at least 3-4 walls. If repositioning to other side of wall doesn't do the trick, I may need to step up to Extreme.
I hope this helps others that might have similar problems.

  • Express doesn't show in Airport

So I've got one of those Aiport Express.. which is good and all but I simply just can't get it to work.
I've got a third-part access point delivering wireless internet in my house, and I'm trying to "put" my Airport Express on that network, so I can control my itunes.. However when I open my aiport program on my mac, the Express doesn't show..
The Express itself just blinks orange...
Anyone know how I can access the Express and "tell" it to be a host (or what it's called) on my already excisting wireless network delivered by my linksys access point...
    Thanks so much
oh.. ps.. I might have "accidentally" pushed the reset button on the Airport Express..

btw.. I lost my installation cd and got a new mac.. is there ANYwhere it's possible to get the programs, or do I have to get apple to send me a new one?
    cheers

  • Airport Extreme doesn't recoginze second Airport Express

I have an Airport Extreme base station and one Airport Express that's been working fine for years. I have a second Airport Express that I'd like to add but can't seem to get it to work. I've entered the MAC address of the 2nd Express into the Airport Utility, have both Express' listed, check mark in the "Allow wireless clients," did the "Update" but the 2nd Express just blinks amber while the first one is fine with a solid green light.
    Any thoughts?

It sounds like you're attempting to add a second remote base station in a WDS with the other two. Is this correct? If so, try temporarily connecting the second AirPort Express Base Station (AX) directly to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) by Ethernet, and then, use the AirPort Utility to configure it.

My home network has an Airport Extreme w/Time Capsule as the base and then an Airport Express and a second Airport Extreme to reach different areas of the house.  Is there a way to use the second Airport Extreme for file storage on this network?  Network is administered through an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.  Ideally, would like for the second Airport Extreme hard drive to appear on the list of devices in the Finder window.

    Ok.. gottcha
The problem is network wise.. Yosemite is about equal to tin cans and string.. pathetic.
Here is my usual set of instructions to get anything working on Yosemite.
The best way to fix problems is a full factory reset of all the AE in the network.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for AE which is router.. it is a problem for AE which is bridged.. you will need to set static IP in the main router by dhcp reservations or use static IP in the AE which is tricky.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Now mount the disk of the second AE in finder... manually.
Use Go, Connect to Server and type in the AE ip address.
    SMB://10.0.1.2
Where you will replace that address with the actual address. The network resource should be discovered and then it will request the password.. type that in and make sure you tick to save it in your keychain.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
Do as much as you want of the above... not all of it is necessary.. only if you want it reliable.. or as reliable as Yosemite in its current incarnation can manage.
The most important thing is point 6.. mount the disk using direct IP address and not names.. dns in Yosemite is fatally flawed.

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

  • Can't configurate my second Airport Express

Hi, I just spent two hours in vain to set up my second Airport Express.
I get Internet from my neighbors via WLAN.
I managed to configurate my first Airport Express (living-room) as a client 'connect with wireless network'. I only use it to stream music to my music center.
I bought a second Airport Express to do the same in the kitchen. The idea is that when I play music with itunes the music will play in the kitchen and in the livingroom. It doesn't work. When I reset and start from the scratch I have four options:
    A Create new network
    B Join an existing network
    C Replace a unit
    D Reset old settings
A works but doesn't solve the problem since it won't join the network
B doesn't work, first it is looking good, than there is written 'waiting for the station' for around 4 minutes and than there is an error message ' an unexpected error arrived, try again!'
C is not what I am looking for
D is not what I am looking for
Any ideas what to do? Why can't I join the existing network?
    Please help

  • Adding a Second Airport Express

Is there a trick to adding a second Airport Express?  My network is created by an Airport Extreme.  Six months ago, I added an Airport Express to get better coverage upstairs (no problems).  Now I want to add a second Airport Express to extend coverage to the back of our house.  I plug in the Airport Express but it never shows in the Airport Utility.  I have tried over and over and it never appears.

The second Express can "extend" the signal provided by the AirPort Extreme, but it cannot "extend" the signal from the AirPort Express that is already "extending".
The Express always needs to be located where it can receive a strong signal from the main router in order to "extend" that signal.
Might that be the issue here?  The second Express is possibly located too far from the AirPort Extreme?
If we need to do some more checks, is your Mac runnign OS X 10.6.8 as your profile indicates?

  • Having trouble connecting a second airport express

I currently have a third party router and have successfully connected one airport express and when I try to add another - I simply can't. The yellow light will continually flash and the computer won't recognize the added airport. I then restart the airport express by pressing the button under the brick and I am able to get through all of the steps until the very end while the airport is restarting when it says that it can't connect to the airport because it doesn't recognize it and then the yellow light starts to flash on and off again. Question. Can I put a second airport express in and what could I be doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

Hello cwedner. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I currently have a third party router and have successfully connected one airport express and when I try to add another - I simply can't.
How do you have your first AirPort Express Base Station (AX) configured to "connect" to the third party router: 1) By Ethernet, or 2) WIreless? If wireless, do you have the AX configured to "Join a wireless network?" ... and is this how you want the 2nd AX to be configured?

  • Second Airport Express with speakers?

I have an Airport Express in my living room which acts as my router. I want to place a second Airport Express in the bedroom, plug my Genius SP-HF1800A powered speakers into it, and play Internet radio on those speakers from my iPhone or iPad with AirPlay.
I thought this was easily doable, but when I went to buy the Airport Express one of the guys at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store informed me that this was in fact impossible and that if I wanted to listen to music through speakers on Airplay my only choices were to either physically connect the speakers via cord directly to a docked iPhone or buy wireless speakers.
Is this true? Or can I use the second Express in the way I first thought was possible?
    thanks!

Assuming you are using iTunes, a second Airport Express will work well for you.
Airport Express (AE) can act as a base station for up to 10 clients (computers) and a if you attach a second AE this one is similar to a computer.
If the signal strengh in your bedroom is ok (depends on distance, walls and so on) you will have a nice sound there.
To setup best the AE is attached via LAN Cable to your computer and other networks on your computer are switched OFF.
In the setup of the AE go to:
Airport --> wireless --> join a wireless network --> choose from the dropdown or set manually the name of the network (router / the other AE) and passphrase for the appropriate security setting.
Music--> enable Airplay and set a speaker name
    Internet --> TCP/IP --> DHCP
    Then click on update.
After that, unplug the LAN-Cable and activate your computers network. The AE should then show up in the Airport-Utility.
If the AE is there, unplug, drag it to your bedroom an plug in again. Wait for the green light, plug in speakers and enjoy.
Useful hint to AE's in bedrooms: The green light of the AE is brilliant in the dark :-))
To avoid disturbance while you sleep, attache a small piece of a thin red colored selfaddesive paper or tape over it. Red filters green and so the indicator light will be visible without ilumine the whole room.
Have a lot of fun with your bedroom music

  • Second Airport Express and NAS

    Hi!
I have an Airport Express connected to the internet and I´d like to buy a second Airport Express to connect to my NAS. I didn´t find a precise information about it. I asked the "genius" and he told me to buy an timecapsule, but doesn´t make sense to me. Anyone had the same problem? Thank you!

    Hi,
Sorry, but you have already a NAS and you want to connect it or you need one?
When the NAS is near to the Airport, you can buy a Network Switch and so you can connect more Devices..
