Second day with MBP and %85 Battery Health

Hey guys ,
I ve just open my new MBP 2.66 and i used it for just nearly 2 days.
When i see the battery statics , they re like;
19weeks
2 cycles
battery health : 85%
It is like a joke! Just 2 days and 2 cycles how could it be possible that i ve 85% battery health on my MBP?
I think that book was made 19weeks ago , but i guess it doesnt have to affect the health of my battery , right ?
I feel so terrible atm , please somebody tell me that its normal and all MBPs are same at the beggining:)
What if it is a problem from factory , i ve apple care product on my MBP , Does it include the replacement of battery?
thanks .

The battery needs several weeks of use for the battery's reported health to stabilize — it's not being reported accurately before calibration. Even after weeks of use it's likely to fluctuate up and down by several percentage points from day to day and week to week. Now that you've had it for more than a month, you can't return it, and your battery probably won't be considered defective unless and until it shows less than 80% health steadily for a couple of weeks or longer. As long as it's above 80%, you will probably be told it's within specs. So there is *no use at all in obsessing about it* until then. Stop doing so.
Just use the computer normally for a month or two and see what happens. Don't check on the battery's health every day — that's obsessing. Check on it every two weeks. If it falls below 80% and stays there, take the machine in for battery testing at an Apple Store. No one can assure you that your battery will be found defective. And as I wrote above, it probably won't even be tested if its health is above 80% when you take it in.
Yes, the 19 weeks is the time since the computer's manufacture date.

  • New Macbook Pro Retina 15inch is showing up as 1.9months old with 2 cycles on 'Battery Health'!?

    Hi,
I've just recieved my New Macbook Pro Retina 15inch and installed 'Battery Health', but for some reason it is is showing my Macbook as 1.9months old with 2 cycles!? This Macbook isn't even a day old.. Is this normal!?
    Please advise..
    Thanks,

That is not unusual.  Note that the actual maximum charge is well above the designed level which is the most important criteria.
    Ciao.

  • Share Cinema Display and peripherals with MBP and PC

Share Cinema Display and peripherals with MBP and PC
I am about to be forced to use a business network connected PC in my office, but I will continue to bring my personal MacBook Pro to work for my personal e-mail, calendar, internet, etc. (it will be connected to a seperate open DSL network). I am thinking about getting an Apple Cinema display and trying to use this one display for both computers. I would like a way to "switch back and forth" between the two systems, all the while using the same mouse, keyboard, printer and Cinema display.
Does anyone have any experience setting up what I am wanting to do?
Also, how does connecting an external display effect a MBP? Can you close the screen on the MBP, turning off the MBP's display but keeping the computer running? I'd like to be able to tuck the MBP out of the way to save deskspace but still be using it via the Cinema display and peripherals...
    Thanks so much!

You can use synergy (link: http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) to link the mouse and keyboard across the two platforms.
If you want to use only one display, you'll need a KVM switch.
You can run the MBP either with it's own screen open, or shut it and use only the external screen.
    Hopefully this helps a little...

  • 3 day old 13inch mbp and its battery problems :(

Hi, i bought my new 13', 2.5ghz macbook 3 days ago and this is the battery status
This is my first experience with a mac, so i'm not really sure about many things :S
      Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          5707
      Fully Charged:          Yes
      Charging:          No
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          5707
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:          2
      Condition:          Normal
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          0
      Voltage (mV):          12486
I've been searcing around and apparently 5707 for a full charge capacity is not a good number, so i was wondering if that was true!
PLUS istatpro is telling me that my battery health is at 99%, is that an issue too?
and lastly, istatpro tells me that my fans are on at 1996rpm yet i can hear it in my room! i guess it is pretty quiet in my room but is that a problem also?

Apple has a 14 day No questions asked return policy. If you find anything you don't like with the unit you now have return it for full refund and get another.
Yes the fan runs al the time but at the normal default 2000+/-RPM it should not make noise that is noticeable.

  • Brand New MBP and Poor Battery Performance

I just bought a new 13-inch MacBook Pro to replace my stolen white MacBook (the Feb 2009 version). On the old MacBook, I got about 2.5 - 3 hours for the battery. This new MacBook, purchased about two weeks ago with Snow Leopard pre-installed, lasts, at most, 1.5 - 2 hours.
Is this really the expected battery longevity for a new MacBook Pro? Apple's claims are wild but I wouldn't have believed this much variance. When I look, it appears that even less is running than used to. The CPU usage stays very low for a long time during the day, sleeping on and off. Since the battery is not switchable by the user, this makes it tough under conditions where an electrical outlet is not available (like conferences).
Is there maybe a third-party easily replaceable battery out there so something else I can do? For long battery life, is the white MacBook a better choice?
    Thanks!

    Hi mwfanelli,
What you're experiencing with the 13" MacBook Pro is not normal. I have the same model laptop and I get 4+ hours under pretty decent load, I've gotten almost 6 hours off a full charge on several occasions.
To answer your question, there currently is no 3rd party offering for Apple's new design. There are 3rd party external power options but they can get pretty costly.

  • Speakers with Alarm and iPod Battery Life

    Hello everybody,
I am thinking to buy speakers with alarm for my wife's iPod video (30G). I have the following concern though. Since such kind of accessories charge iPod once I connect it, is it going to shorten the battery life due to frequent charging? Or is there any way to somehow disable charging if the battery is still OK?
    Thank you.

  • Got my macbook pro in december and my battery health has dropped to 91

    Hi
My macbook pro that i purchased in the middle of december has a battery health of 91 percent, it only has 11 cycles and i was wonndering if this is normal?
    Thanks

If it is running 10.7.5, I'm not surprised.  Any MacBook Pro gotten last month should at minimum have had 10.8 something if not 10.9 something, unless you bought it refurbished or used.

  • Second Monitor with nVidia and Openbox

I am going to be picking up a second monitor this afternoon, and I am wondering how easy it will be to set up. Can I just run the nVidia xorg configure command and will that do most of it for me? I also noticed there are different methods of using 2 monitors. Is twinview the best or should I look at something else?

GUI works fine and i always run nvidia-settings as root.
    su -c 'nvidia-settings'
    or just apply a alias
    alias nvidia-settings='su -c 'nvidia-settings''
    Good Luck!

  • 2 day old MBP and already lost a USB port!!

I just bought a macbook pro yesterday along with a mighty mouse. Everything worked flawlessly until this morning. While I was working in Photoshop the mouse quit working. Since then it has given me the error message "USB device over current notice" even when there is nothing plugged in. As soon as it boots up I get the notice. It is only the right USB port that is giving me the problem. I upgraded to 10.4.6 but that didn't solve the problem. I searched around and haven't been able to find a fix. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it? Thanks.
    MacBook Pro 1.83GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks for the reply. I was on the phone all morning with Apple and tried many different things to get the port to work and apparently its a problem with the port itself. I'll just have to exchange it. I'll go ahead and do a fresh install of the OS and let everyone know if it gets rid of the problem.
I bought it at CompUSA. When I took it out of the box I noticed that the screen had some smudge marks on it as if someone tried to wipe it off. It certainly didn't look "new". I'm guessing someone else returned the computer and they turned around and sold it to me. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the new one.

  • Frist day with Mac and i'm lost help me Mr. Ralph Johns

    Hi ...
i have problem with the iChat ..!!
every time i log in, it's disconnected after few minute
    and i got this message
"iChat lost the connection to the Mac.com account"
the server connection was unexpectedly lost.
    thank you for helping me

    Hi,
Your Specs only tell us which Mac you have.
Can you tell us which OS version and which iChat version you have ?
Go to the Apple icon and About this Mac for the OS version.
Go to the iChat Menu and About iChat for the iChat Version.
In System Preferences > Security (Presuming either OS 10.5.x or 10.6.x), is the Firewall On ? (Set to Allow Essentials or Allow Specific Apps in Leopard (10.5.x))
In Snow Leopard (10.6.x) in the Advance Button is Allow Signed apps active
If Allow Specific App s or allow Signed apps is used is iChat in the list ?
In Either OS version is Stealth active ? This should not stop you logging in but mat cause other problems.
Is this Apple ID used with MobileMe and Back to my Mac ?
If so can you turn that Off for a moment in System Preferences > MobileMe
AS a Mac/Apple ID is the password longer than 16 characters ?
Apple allow longer passwords than this but the AIM server that iChat logs in to does not.

  • Problem with MBP Retina Display battery

So, I'm on my second MBP Retina Display. The first one had a dead pixel. However, other than the dead pixel I was pleased with the laptops condition.
I got it replaced. The new model seems to be having issues with burned in windows on the display. Also, the battery life seems to go down much quicker than
    the one I had originaly.
I took my laptop into the genius bar and was told the battery was completely fine but because I used migration assistant something was draining the battery life.
A month has gone by since I cleaned out my laptop and didn't use migration assistant. The battery had been lasting longer than before. But now it's draining rather rapidly again. I don't know why.
Also, I hadn't noticed the burn in's until now.
Can someone tell me if there is a way to fix these issues? Or if I should take my laptop in again?
    Thanks for the help!

    0. Forget coconutBattery.
    1. Doesn't seem like a lot.
    2. Recommended? No. Can it hurt? No, as long as you stick to 3.
    3. It is better to discharge, at least a few times per month, to about 40%.

  • Problem with itunes and low battery

I've been a mac user for years, and I've never had a problem before now. I just bought a macbook 2 days ago, and when my battery is low I can't listen to my purchased music in itunes. First it asks me to authorize the computer(which it already is, the only one under this apple id)then it gives me an error message saying not enough memory, and to try again later.
So if plug it in and restart it I have no problems, it doesn't ask me to authorize it and it just plays. If it gets low, same thing happens Just wondering if there was anyone else with this problem. thanks

  • 13 in macbook pro (early to mid 2011) : after the update, computer freezes with spinning wheel every 30 seconds first with safari and now with all the applications. I don't have any programs installed and still had good enough memory on the RAM.

After the update of my 13 in mac book pro (early to mid 2011) , it freezes every 30 seconds with the spinning wheel and now it just freezes. Ive never had this problem until I recently updated. Also, I just checked now for available update ( which there was one), the update would process till the last step and it shows it cannot be expanded? Now my computer wont even restart (just have a grey screen with a cursor). Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on with my computer?
I also checked the memory and it showed available memory was over 1.5 GB. I dont have any programms installed and do not have backup yet ( dont really need it anyways)
Problems: first with spinning wheel every 30 seconds and now whole computer just freezes when I restart, it only shows grey screen after the starting sound or it takes about 8 to 10 minutes to restart.
This ALL happened right after the update with google chrome crashing. I know my apple care plan expired so I cant even go to genius bar. Do you guys know how much it would cost to get it fixed ? Or any recommendations I can do to fix this?

If the battery runs completely out while the machine is running, it basically kills the OS in its tracks, which isn't a good thing -- thus the warning. Of course, the machine is supposed to put itself to sleep when the battery gets too low, to prevent this sort of thing. But if the machine is restarting at the time, it can't really do that, and will just keep running through the restart process until the battery is totally empty, and then it'll conk out.
What I'm not sure of, though, is whether you're saying that this happens every time you try to restart, regardless of the battery level, or if it just happens now and then (undoubtedly at times that the battery is nearly tapped out). If the battery dies every time you restart, even if it was 100% full beforehand, you've got problems. What those problems might be, I don't know, but you might want to take it to the closest Apple store and have them take a look at it. If it's still under warranty, they ought to fix it free.
If it's only happening when you restart when the battery is low, the fix is: don't do that. Restarting tends to be a somewhat expensive operation, in terms of power consumption, since the machine's got to run the hard drive a lot more than during normal use. You don't want to go restarting off the battery unless it's really necessary, and only then if you think you've got enough battery reserve to get fully started up again.
