Second Display for iMac G5

Hi all
Is it possible to setup a send display for an imac G5?

The iMac G5 uses the Mini VGA port for connecting to external displays and can use either of these $35(Aus) adaptors:
Mini VGA - VGA
Mini VGA - Composite/S-Video.

how do i set up a second display for my iMac desktop?  I want to use both displays at the same time.  My iMac is the 24" Late 2006 model.  I recall that there is a cord for plugging in a second monitor, but I want to make sure that i can use both monitors side-by-side at the same time.  thank you.

If the Display supports DVI, then you will need a > Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
If the Display only supports VGA, then you wiil need a > Mini DVI to VGA Adapter and a VGA cable.
Noting that the (digital) DVI is far better than the (analog) VGA connection.

  • How to use the second display for installation OS in my vertical lines iMac

My 17" iMac display is full of vertical lines, it is unuseable. Does anyone know how to use the second display for Mac OS X or disable the first display for installation Mac OS x ?

Go to: *System Preferences > Displays* and select the Arrangement tab, then relocate your Menu bar by dragging it to the other display.
Unfortunately there is no Hardware or Software switch to turn off the iMac's Internal Display.

  • Can I use my old 2006 iMac as a second display for my new iMac?

Can I use my rusty old 2006 iMac as a second display for my new 2012 iMac?  How do I keep one computer from trying to take over the other one?  thank you.

Try ScreenRecycler, the 2006 does not support display input.

  • New iMac as second display for MacBook Pro not working

I just bought the new thin 2012 27" iMac as a replacement to the last model I had.
I want to use the iMac as a second display for my 2012 MacBook Pro.
I have a Mini Display Port to Mini Display Port cable that used to work with my previous setup and at work with my external display.
However, this isn't working on the new iMac. When I try the Command + F2 suggestion I've seen in the forums here. Nothing happens.
Do I need a new cable now that these are "thunderbolt" connections?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Demetre

You will most likely need a Thunderbolt cable as they are both Thunderbolt devices and not Mini DisplayPort.

  • Using a macbook pro as a second display for an imac using a thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable

I know I can use TDM to use an imac as a second display for a MBP with a thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable.  Is there any work around to use a MBP as a second display for an imac with a thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable?
    15" MBP w/retina running maverick 10.9.4
    21" imac running maverick 10.9.4

No; the MacBook Pro doesn't support video in. If desired, use a product such as ScreenRecycler over a network.

  • Late 2009 imac as second display for new (late 2012) imac. How to?

I have a late 2009 imac 27 that I would like to use as a second display for my late 2012 imac 27. Has anybody connected them successfully? I am getting very mixed information on the topic.

Thank you. Here's where my confusion comes in
"iMac (Mid 2011) and later: target Display Mode does not work with Mini DisplayPort cable"
    Symptoms
When you attempt to connect an iMac (21.5-inch or 27-inch, Mid 2011) and later to another computer with a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, the screen of the target iMac will not become an external display when you press Command-F2 to activate Target Display Mode.
    Resolution
iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) computers do not support Target Display Mode via Mini DisplayPort cables.

  • Companion Display for iMac

I'm looking for a second display for my iMac. The Thudersbolt display is too big and prciey. Can anyone recommend an monitor with similar diplay characetrics of an iMac? I'm using a 27 inch late 2012 model.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jeff

When you find a suitable display, note there may be a need to get an extra display adapter and or cable to best attach the display to the computer; this because some adapters or cables may not allow use of a higher resolution, though such may be supported by the computer's graphic card.
There may be Thunderbolt to Other adapters available, so the size of the display is secondary to compatibility.
According to http://mactracker.ca your 27-inch Late 2012 iMac has two Thunderbolt ports...
    Display Modes
Dual display extended, video mirroring, AirPlay Mirroring, and Target Display
    External Resolution
Up to 2560 by 1600 pixels
Check the different adapters or cables for your model in the Apple Store, where you select a computer (as if to buy) then look into extras, such as custom or BTO, to see they list parts. This information may be helpful when looking for a local product when matching the display to the computer ports. The latest model may offer different configurations. A retail specialist should have them too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to turn a Macbook Pro into a second display for another Macbook Pro

So my school just gave me a Macbook Pro and I already have a Macbook Pro. I would like to know if I could turn my school Macbook Pro into a second display for my regular Macbook Pro. Thank You!
Both Macs are running Mavericks 10.9.4

If you need administrative access and it is denied to you, then there is no way, as ScreenRecycler and AirDisplay do need administrative access to be installed.

  • Using old Gateway monitor as second display for Late 2013 MBP?

    Hi all,
I'm currently running OSX 10.9.4 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina Display. I recently took an old Gateway LCD monitor (with DVI and HDMI ports) off of someone's hands and was wondering if I'd be able to use it as a second display for my MBP. I have a DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable. If this is doable, instructions would be great.
    Thank you!
(Yes, this is a repost. I realized I posted the other one in the wrong section, and I was unable to move sections.)

I have, using the adapter, connected them via the MBP's HDMI slot and the other monitor's DVI port. The monitor turns on, but the Mac doesn't recognize the other display. The other display is simply blank after it's initial turn-on screen.

  • Using 2009 iMac as second display for 2012 iMac

I am using my 2009 iMac as a second display using a mini display plugged into the 2012 iMac Thunderbolt port.  When I plug it in, it works fine, but if I need to restart my 2012 iMac, it won't recognize the second display on reboot.
How do I make my 2012 iMac automatically recognize the second display?  The only way I seem to make it work is by unplugging the cable, and then plugging it back in.  When I do, it immediately recognizes the second display.

Thank you. Here's where my confusion comes in
