Second display is off after update to 10.6.8 (27" iMac Late 09)

Hi there,
I'm in trouble. After upgrading to 10.6.8 my second display is no longer starting. I tried to repair the permissions, and after that I did the full combo update.
Nothing happend :-(
It's an 27" late 09 iMac (Radeon HD4850 (512MB), 16 GB RAM, 500GB HDD), the second display is a Sony P234 (23") on miniDisplay-> DVI-Adapter
It works fine up to 10.6.7. On 10.6.8 the first step after installation also worked fine (Finder etc) after shutdown and restart the problem happend.

Hi ok so i have two problems, I had MSN 6.03 for a while but last night it just stopped opening, so I deleted it and tried to redownload, but when i try to download it, it says "failed to mount" every time.

Yoga display turns off after 1 minute

I'm having an annoying problem with my new Yoga related to the display and have not seen any other posts with a similar complaint so perhaps this is a simple fix that I'm just not able to sort out on my own. My display turns off after 1 minute of inactivity. The only means for changing behavior like this that I am aware of is through the Control Panel Power Options. My settings for "turn off the display" are 10 minutes on battery and Never while plugged in (note screen shot attached). Regardless of my settings, the screen turns off after 1 minute. I've changed the settings to multiple configurations and restarted with no change in behavior. Perhaps there's some other settings area, maybe something specific to Lenovo that I'm not aware of (since this is my first Lenovo laptop). Anyone with similar problems or insight?

This may be a Windows 8 issue. I finally fixed this problem by identifying the screen saver as the issue (and I wasn't using a screen saver). Type "lock the computer" into the search box after clicking the search charm, which brings up the screen saver dialog box. Mine was set to 1 minute, though I'd never set it myself. If you can't change it, choose a screen saver and you should be able to do so (and can then switch back to no screen saver). BUT, here's the problem. Other things you install (or settings within things you install) can apparently change and override whatever you type in for the delay time. Try applying your new time and exiting from the dialog box, then open it back up again. I was finding that it kept going back to 1 minute. To reset things so that you can get control again, type "user accounts" into the search box and when the dialog box comes up, choose "Reset Security Policies". Then you can go back to the screen saver dialog and successfully change the delay time. Ideeacentre B520 Display Shuts off after 1 minute

My b520 display shuts off after 1 minute. None of the windows setting seem to affect it. The user Manual for the system does not seem to address this. What am I missing?

I found the problem. it was the lenovo dynamic brightnes system.

T42 Display turns off after moving

Hello everybody!
I´ve got a problem with my Thinkpad T42 (2373fwg), XP prof. with the latest updates running. After installing the latest drivers for display (ati) and for "ThinkVantage Active Protection System " the display turns off immediately after moving the Thinkpad. I can turn the display on again only by reboot. The error appears even in a second after reboot, so it doesn´t concern to windows. The system doesn´t crash, it´s only the display. The problem might concern to the shock sensor, but I don´t know how to solve it.
Does anyone of you has an idea?

I have a similar problem: T42 (2373-5wg) Screen blanks. At first screen blanking was rare and seemed to happen when moving the pc, but now the screen blanks within 1-3 minutes after turning on the laptop, even if the computer is left untouched after being turned on.
It is not OS related as the blanking appears even when in BIOS setup or booted on a liveOS CD.
I can't tell for sure if the system crashes or not as the display goes blank (doh!), however, I have seen no reports of registered crashes in the visible part of the boot process.
The screen blanking appears quicker (or even instantly) if the computer is warm (e.g. turned off just before being turned on).
Blanking appears simultaneously on the LCD and on any attached external monitor, so I believe this rules out a defective LCD, backlight or inverter board.
I'm thinking it's a failing graphics adapter or system board, or maybe a loose connection that causes a component to overheat and fail. But I don't know which or how to fix it.
It IS out of warranty, of course. Any ideas?

Second Display Powers Off Periodically

Hello everyone,
I can't find anyone with quite the same problem as me, so assistance would be appreciated. I run my macbook periodically hooked up to a second monitor. This works fine except that after a while (10 mins or so) the second monitor flicks off, and remains off. It's still got power, the macbook is apparently still feeding it data (my windows don't whiz back onto my main screen), but it's gone blank. If I switch the monitor off and on again, it comes back up. Recently it will then flick off again immediately. The solution appears to be to wait a few minutes, and then switch it off/on.
It sounds like something is overheating perhaps, but I'm baffled to know what. Any thoughts?

Hmm. That's odd. I would suggest something in the Energy Saver control panel but there isn't an option for turning off on a per-display basis.
Have you tried another monitor to see if it has the same problem? If not, it may the actual display that is the problem and nothing wrong with your Macbook.

Display Turns Off After Opening Computer

I have a very annoying problem of my display turning off and not turning on until I restart my Macbook Pro by holding down the power button.
For example, I will close my computer (power cord not plugged in) and it will go to sleep. If for some reason the computer turns on while it is still closed (this happens when I pick it up/move it around sometimes) and I then open the computer, the display will be on momentarily and then turn off leaving me with a black screen. The only way to turn the display on again is to restart my computer.
Another example: I might close the computer with the power cord in. I will then unplug the computer (still closed) and walk somewhere, then open the computer. The display will be on for a few seconds and then turn off, leaving me again to restart my computer.
The third example is the worst. Sometimes with the power cord still in, sometimes with no power cord, the display will just be blank when I open the computer.
With all of the above occurrences, I know the computer is running because I can see the caps lock key light change when I press it.
Does this make any sense? Please help me, I will be going to college on Tuesday and I would really like to have it so I don't have to restart my computer every time before class.
My display was not always this way, it has just been like this for a few months.

Mouse moving to second display when off

I have a late 2012 iMac running Mavericks with a Samsung SyncMaster as a second display. When the 2nd monitor is turned off (manually from the power button on the monitor) my mouse pointer will still move to that display. I personally don't use the 2nd display, but my husband and kids do but on their own logins. I've unchecked the "displays have separate spaces" in mission control, unplugged and plugged the monitor back in, and with every restart it still does it. Any ideas how to prevent this? It's get really annoying when I can't find the pointer and have to move the mouse for what seems like forever to get it visible again.

I want to add the second display is connected to the iMac via mini display port to DVI adapter, plugged into thunderbolt port.

After updating software to 10.6.7, my iMac won't display anything but a black screen after booting, the system seems to be working because you can figure out that the list of users is there to start up (keyboard & sounds) but no display. Things I have already tried: Reset PRAM and SMC and nothing. It's black.

Air Display Turns Off After 10-15 mins - Why? What's the fix?

I recently upgraded to OSX10.8 on my early 2012 mac mini. I have been using AirDisplay as my screen.
I've run into an problem. The AirDisplay prefpane now turns itself off after 10-15 mins if its not being used. It also doesn`t activate on reboot.
This is obviously a problem as I don‘t have a monitor.
I started to use logmein instead, but its not ideal as its mouse isn’t quite as usable (it works in the current release after many months of bugs and patchy performance).
I've been going back and forth with Avatron for a few weeks (they've been very supportive), and they proposed two solutions:
Uninstall / reinstall using a newly downloaded package
Delete the hidden com.avatron preference files
Neither has worked.
I also made a rather pathetic to write an applescript to select the menu app item "Turn Air Display On" , but I didn't really know what I was doing (here's my poor effort below). As I didn‘t get this working when the menu option was available, I didn’t proceed.

The iPhone cannot connect to 5 GHz, so it ignores it. If your MacBook is capable of connecting, you should see the 5 GHz network when you click to Join a nework and Show Networks.
Tried ticking create hidden network but not sure what that does.
Please do not tick this box.It is far more trouble than it is worth. If you did tick the box and tried to connect with a wireless device, they would not "see" the network at all. It will be a nightmare if you leave this box ticked.

You do not need to do anything to have the Express extend the 2.4 GHz band. It will do it automatically since it is already tied to name of the 2.4 GHz network...not the 5 GHz network, which now has a separate name.

Windows 10: Second display "turns off" in lock screen

Unfortunately some of these quirks are why people don't upgrade straight away, on the plus side by having over 14M people upgrade in less than 2 days MS now has a lot of faults found and fixes to work on - quickly. We hope.
That said I have a dual screen setup and my monitors retain the screen space settings.
The fact yours is a laptop maybe indicative of your issue - does your laptop have dual graphics, e.g. one for high use games and one for low use 2D?
Does it turn off 3D settings - it may not be a Windows 10 thing but more of a setting that has defaulted.

I don't recall having this problem with Win 7 Pro, just upgraded to 10 pro a few days ago.I have an HP Probook 450 G2 (with up-to-date graphics driver) and a dual monitor setup. Main display is on HDMI and second display is on VGA. When I lock my laptop (Win+L), it seems to "turn off" the second display and shifts any applications I had in the second display to the main display.While a relatively small issue, it is rather annoying to have to drag applications back over to the second display when I resume working.It doesn't seem to happen right away though, nor does it seem to trigger when display is set to sleep at 20 minutes. I'm not sure how else to explain this. Satellite P850 display turns off after only minute or two of inactivity

Hi,
I have my Display settings set to turn off display after 1 hour when on power and 10 minutes when on battery.
I have a screen saver set up to go on after 10 minutes.
However, my display often (but not always) turns itself off after only a minute or two of inactivity.
Can anyone explain this weird behavior?
It starts up immediately I move the mouse but I just don't like things happening that I haven't scheduled.
