Second displays
Hi,
I need some info about second displays. I had an older iMac(G5) and had to download a zap to be able to arrange the second display and be able to move windows from one display to the other display.
I got a new Imac, 17" intel core, running 10.5.8. It has a mini DVI port for a second monitor. I want to purchase a Mini DVI to VGA adapter for the second monitor, but I do not know if the new Imac supports moving windows to the second display. Can any one help me?
Ed Gaiano
Hi Edward
Yes, the 17" Core Duo's support Extended Desktop Mode.
see > http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23844
I have a 21.5" LG Display connected up to my 17" iMac using the Apple Mini DVI to DVI adaptor and a DVI cable. In Extended Desktop Mode I have the LG Display setup as my main display and use the iMac's 17" Display for opening Finder, iTunes, Disk Utility and other windows that I don't want on my main display.

Crome - stuck in full screen on Second display
Hello
I am in need of some help here.
I have a dual screen set up
Main display - Apple 30" display
Second display - Apple 23" display
At one point I have enabled full screen mode with Google Crome on my 23" display and I can't get it out of Full Screen.
I have quit Crome and tried to start it holding down different keys - Command, option and also control, (alone not together)
No change, still runs full screen
UGH - hate it.
I have tried 'esc' and the blue arrows in the upper right of the screen both did not help.
Thanks
West

Msi big bang xpower2 - only boots for 10 seconds, displays error b7
Hey guys,
As the title states. I am getting 'b7' on the error display which i read somewhere means 'no input devices detected', can someone confirm this? I have tried turning on the PC with 1 GPU, 2 GPU, and no GPU in different configurations but I get the same error each time. It just boots for 10 seconds, displays 'b7' and then restarts and does it all over again. Help would be massively appreciated as I need this PC for work :(
ThanksMore than likely it's 67 - Late CPU Initialization
Just providing the name of your MB is not enough info. Please supply information for rest of your system, not knowing what kind of RAM, model CPU and other components mates it very difficult to help track down cause your problem.

I want to use my apple TV as a second monitor not a mirrored one, in other words, I want to use my TV as a second screen not a copy of my first screen, other people have asked this question but have been given mirroring answers so I am spelling it out here very specifically. I want a second display. This should be possible and would be awesome. Anyone know how to do this?
Nevermind I just installed it to try it and it's awesome, so happy right now, Thanks. All the things I had read about it on third party sites led me to believe it could not do extended desk tops, thanks for your help!

How to use my broken Imac as a second display for my new IMAc
Hi everyone !
I have a old Imac Imac 24" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz 2G
One day I was watching a video from youtube and It frozen. After that When I start the computer I get the Apple sound and a grey screen.
I send it to Apple assistence They said it could either be the the main board or the video board.
As they don't have this parts anymore couse it's a old Imac version, they can do nothing to help or make sure.
So I have this machine side by side with my new Imac 21.5 inch 2.5ghz Intel core i5
So is there a way to make it as a second display? Or do anything with it?
Obs: I used a ethernet cable to erase my Imac 24 and now I getting the grey screen with a file Icon with (?) inside
Please don't tell me to trow it way.....
Hope to get some help.

When I try to run Hardware test from Snow leopard, nothing happens, also nothing happens to update disk. It only load hardware test from the first Cd that came with the computer. OSx 10.4.7
So After it load, it asked to choose the language and O got the this:

Is there a way to connect the Apple TV as a second display without it automatically changing my Mac's audio output? I would prefer to use an audio interface for playback and the apple tv as a third display. I know I can go back to system preferences and swap my output back manually, but it is getting to be really inconvienient. Thoughts?
Hi and welcome to Discussions,
have a look at ScreenRecycler http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22908/screenrecycler

Using second display via eMac's mini-DVI to VGA adaptor
Hi,
I've got a 19inch widescreen display from Acer, model no. AL1916W. I have apple's mini-DVI to VGA adaptor and have connected the second display to the point where it mirrors the screen on my eMac, however I don't want it to do this.
What I had intended is that the second display would act as an extension of my eMacs screen, so I can drag windows across for extra space. Is this possible with the eMac?
Put more specifically, I want to be able to put logic's main (arrange) window on the Acer widescreen, and then have whatever else on the eMacs screen? Is there a workaround to do this?
help much appreciated,
TobyHi,
It's funny you should send me that link, I actually found that a couple of hours after posting this and tried it. It worked perfectly, I now have the widescreen running in it's native resolution and working as a separate screen which I can drag stuff in and out of. I came back on here to mark the question as 'answered' but I couldn't find how.
thanks for your help,

How to adjust the brightness of a second display (Dell 3007WFPHC 2560x1600 dpi) connected to 27 inch iMAC 2012 through thunderbolt port by an Apple Mini Display Port to Dual-Link DVI Adapter?
Macs control computer by USB. With a non-Apple display, you will have to use the brightness control on the display.

Reinstall with format
Utility disc on boot cd (scan disk & rights repair)
Even when I try to boot cd without second screen, I ve white screen
(after a update to 10.6.4)
Help me pleaseHi Tony,
I don't how these instructions are the same, here is what the article says:
_Resetting PRAM and NVRAM_
• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
• Release the keys.
Your original post said *"Restart the mac and depress the alt, command, P and R keys simultaneously. You should hear the boot chime. Keep the keys depressed until you hear the boot chime a further three times. On the final boot chime release the keys and let the mac boot normally."* How I understand your post that totals 4 chimes vs. the 2 Apple specifies. Am I missing something?

G5 Second Display using the GeForce FX 5200 - Non-Standard
I have a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 Macintosh.
The display adapter installed is as follows:
GeForce FX 5200:
Chipset Model: GeForce FX 5200
Type: Display
Bus: AGP
Slot: SLOT-1
VRAM (Total): 64 MB
Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0321
Revision ID: 0x00a2
ROM Revision: 2060
Displays:
VX2235wm-3:
Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Supported
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Display:
Status: No display connected
I want to attach a second display to my machine, but the second plug on the card is a non-standard DVI-type connector. It looks like this:
x x x x x x x x x x -----
...with 10 rows of 3 as opposed to 8.
I have had trouble finding an adapter to use to convert this to VGA (which is what I meed to connect my second monitor). I've searched the Apple Store online to no avail, as well as Google. Perhaps I've had no luck because I don't know the name of this part.
Any help is much appreciated!
~Rob BlazeHello! Does the port look like the one below? If so you'll need an adapter. Tom
Actually, HERE is the page i was looking for that shows and describes all dvi connections.

Can I use a Sony all-in-one PC/TV as a second display for the G5?
I'm trying to build a pro music system out of my G5, which means that it should only have music software on it. I have an aluminum 20" display hooked up to my Radeon x800T video card, which has one DVI and one ADC jack on it. A pro music rig needs two 20" displays, at least, to display all the mixers, processors, instruments, etc. I have to use a PC for my financial stuff and need a new one. The new Sony Vaio VGC-VA 11G is their version of the i-Mac G5, it's all-in-one plus it is a 20" LCD TV with S-video and composite video in, not VGA in. If I get an ADC-to-VGA adaptor and hook that up to a VGA-to-S/video & composite adapter (all on ebay!), can I plug the output of the G5 to one of the video ins on the Sony Vaio and then use the Sony Vaio's TV as the second display (not simply mirroring the Apple display)? I guess it would be the same as using an LCD TV as a second, non-mirroring display. If it works, it's going to be cool!
Power Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.2) Dual 2 Gghz (not quad), 3 Megs Ram, ATI Radeon x800T 256By reading the user's manual, it appears that is possible. Download the User Manual from this link:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/ideacentre-b-series-all-in-ones/id...
Chapter 1.1
With the computer off, turn on the monitor, button farthest to the right.
Next button to the left of the on/off button, controls the input. Cycle it until you see HDMI in.
I don't have B520, but I have an A310 and it works the same. I hope that works for you.
Good luck!

24" imac with second display that flickers on and off randomly
Hi, I'm a n00b here, I've read a handful of threads before posting this a I cant seem to find a definitive answer.
I have a 24" 2.4Ghz aluminium iMac and I've recently purchased a HP zr24w 24" IPS panel as a second display, connected with an apple miniDVI - DVI connector.
The screen flickers off, to totaly black every time the mac seems to be having a hard time doing something, be it fast scrolling, flash video, but someimes randomly.
I have boot camp installed with winblows vista (for work) the screen does EXACTLY the same thing, all be it less frequently. This for me rules out the Mac OS, i think it must be something video card/driver related.
Was there ever a fix for this? most of the threads seem to just die with no official answer, it would appear that MBP users were ok until the last 10.6.3 update, when the problem seems to have returned, although i think thats a different issue with the same net effect.
I have spoken to apple care and the very helpful girl I spoke to send me some logging software which I've run and sent the logs back, that may help them out someway.
Any help would be GREAT !!
many thanks
Michaelwell, some time has passed, here's where I'm at so far.
I tried a friend's samsung 24" screen and all was good with the world, no flickering on and off, no black outs nothing, for days it was all fine. I swapped the HP monitor back on and it went right back to its old ways. I called HP tech support, they decided that the monitor was faulty, i returned it to where I got it from and they have sent me a new one. Which was fine, for about 7 hours!!
So, to recap, the mini-DVI to DVI adapter is fine as it worked on the samsung screen, the HP screen is brand new and exhibiting the exact same issue as the first one (cant be 2 faulty ones surely) The samsung screen was fine.
This leads me to think that there is some compatibility issue between the 24" imac and this particular (hp zr24w) monitor.
I have followed apple support's requests for data logging but they cant find anything wrong there.
I'm out of ideas, any help would be GREATLY appreciated !!!
thanks

Using my tv as a second display?
I have a few questions about adding a second display to my MBP.
1. When adding this new display, will it display the exact same thing as on my MB or will it be an additional space?
2. I decided to do this in the first place because I found a "monster" branded cable in officemax on a steal 80%off. It is branded for the Zune though. I noticed however on the display adapters for the MBP, there were similar inputs. It isn't working though.
3.When I plug the wire into the earphone jack, audio comes through my tv. The output next to it (on the left) I assumed was the display output and doesn't work. Is this the correct output or am I pushing my luck and should buy the proper cable?2. To connect a TV use the Apple DVI to TV adapter which has a S-Video or composite output suitable for a TV. Using a Monster Zune cable , small wonder it didn't work.
The other "output" is actually an audio line input. The video output is actually on the other side and is a DVI port to be used with the above adapter.
I presume this Zune thing has a plug like the size for a iPod or similar small earphone size with three conductors on it? Might work in an iPod but connecting it to a line in will never work. In this case the Zune-iness is not the problem vs. using the completely wrong connector. -
How to turn a Macbook Pro into a second display for another Macbook Pro
So my school just gave me a Macbook Pro and I already have a Macbook Pro. I would like to know if I could turn my school Macbook Pro into a second display for my regular Macbook Pro. Thank You!
Both Macs are running Mavericks 10.9.4If you need administrative access and it is denied to you, then there is no way, as ScreenRecycler and AirDisplay do need administrative access to be installed.

how do i set up a second display for my iMac desktop? I want to use both displays at the same time. My iMac is the 24" Late 2006 model. I recall that there is a cord for plugging in a second monitor, but I want to make sure that i can use both monitors side-by-side at the same time. thank you.
If the Display supports DVI, then you will need a > Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
If the Display only supports VGA, then you wiil need a > Mini DVI to VGA Adapter and a VGA cable.
Noting that the (digital) DVI is far better than the (analog) VGA connection.

My 17" iMac display is full of vertical lines, it is unuseable. Does anyone know how to use the second display for Mac OS X or disable the first display for installation Mac OS x ?
Go to: *System Preferences > Displays* and select the Arrangement tab, then relocate your Menu bar by dragging it to the other display.
Unfortunately there is no Hardware or Software switch to turn off the iMac's Internal Display.
