Second generation nano thinks it's syncing, but never makes it into Itunes

After my own 2nd generation nano died, my mom gave me her (never used) one.
(Just a caveat, I am a new Mac user)
When connecting it to my iMac (Mac OSX Version 10.7.5), it shows the usual "do not disconnect" message that it would when syncing-- except it never appears under "devices" in Itunes (11.3) and will not sync. It does, however, show up on the desktop. I believe this ipod has previously been connected to a Windows PC, although my mother never actually used it.
Any thoughts on what to do? Because the ipod is doing the whole "sync screen" thing despite not doing anything, I'm unable to use it to do anything while connected to the computer, rendering the suggestions in other similar posts useless. And I can't reset it because I can't access the device in any capacity through Itunes.
It's definitely connected to the computer, since it appears on my desktop and charges, but Itunes refuses to recognize it.

If there is a loose association (pointers?) it may be randomly lost? But if you embead it manualy, it works. What I don’t understand is why Apple is not supporting such basic functionality.

Well I could do that but that kinda defeats the purpose of paying $600 bucks for this piece of **** that I'm supposed to be able to dump 32 gigs (well u know what I mean) of music on and manage automatically the through this supposedly wonderful piece of software that's supposed to do most of that for you. Okay I get that computers are only as smart as the people using them... Which apparently is not that smart in this case... It sounds like all of your contacts on your Mac running Lion are actually stored up in iCloud.
Several users running Mac OS X Lion and now ML (and iCloud) have no longer been able to "sync" contacts over to their older iPods models.
A work around is to export all of your contacts out of Address Book as vCards and them copy these vCards into your iPod's Contacts folder. You'll need to have the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in order to browse out to the iPod's Contacts folder via the Finder.
Using your iPod as a storage drive
That's the only "solution" I have been able to use to get contacts to sync/appear on my 5G iPod Video.

If I go from 'Devices' to Summary and then Music, I only get one option-Sync Music,There is a box on this page but the options within it are grayed out. If I tick the Sync Music option I get this message-
'Are you sure you want to remove existing music,films,ect, from this ipod and sync with this itunes library?
'Music synced to (my ipods name) from other itunes libraries will be removed and items will be synced from this itunes library' I have only ever used itunes on this PC and the 'Manually manage music and videos' is ticked but
that must be a default setting as I haven't ticked it.

Unable to play certain files on second generation nano

I have downloaded a books from audible.com. but am unable to load a certain title onto my second gen. nano.Other titles have played but not this one which will play on itunes.Any suggestions?

Is there a belt clip for the Second Generation Nano?

I bought a 2GB Nano yesterday. I also purchased Apple's combined Lanyard/Headphones. The headphones won't stay in. ugggh. Anyone else having this problem?

by reset option do you mean the DFU restore? worked for me, have you tried that?
if not - hold the lock and home button until the power down bar comes up. then hold the lock button for ten seconds - next continue to hold the lock button and press the home button for ten seconds - next release the lock button and hold the home button for 10 seconds. this should be done with the phone tethered. If done right and your itunes is configured as such, the phone will reload the drivers and start up itunes, and then prompt for a restore/update.

OK have you got the latest iTunes installed?
Now decide if you want all the music in iTunes or only some of it, this can't be undone if you transfer all so you might want to hold off on that for now.
Now copy the tracks you want on your iPod to a folder on your desktop, name the folder whatever you want, and the in iTunes files click on add folder to iTunes and point it at that folder.
Music added and now sync the music to your iPod.
This is just a stopgap as you figure out how you want to manage your music with iTunes, something to do while you read the guide. That's where you'll find out how to put all your music in iTunes but wait on that till you're sure what you want.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

My ipod touch second generation is giving me an error message when I turn it on. " ipod is disabled" I beleive it is because I forgot my password for my device.
How can I recover this or reset my ipod?

You will need to connect the iPod to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPod and restore/re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPod into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

ITunes is no longer syncing to Apple TV. I have been using my Apple TV Gen 1 for 3 years with good success. For reasons unknown to me, iTunes no longer syncs with my Apple TV. It says/looks like it's syncing but never gets through the first song.

iTunes sees the Apple TV as a device. I have it set to manual sync. I have it set to sync my entire library (I have only 10 CDs in my library). It says it is syncing. The wheel goes round and round. The song it is syncing is listed. The number of songs that are to by synced is listed. but it never gets through syncing the song. I have also set it to sync my photos, but never gets to them. I seem to have a good wireless connection to my Apple TV. I am able to talk between my PC and my Apple TV, but now it won't sync. Note: I have been playing music on my Apple TV for 3 years with good success (with hundreds of songs), but it no longer seems to work like it did. Thanks.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Why is the audio on my video getting out of sync when it is imported into itunes?

I have videos in the MP4 Format, and have imported them into itunes. However, during playback in itunes, the audio gets more and more out of sync as the video plays. By the end of the film the audio can be 5-6 seconds out!
What's strange is that the source file, played with quicktime or Windows media player, is fine and works perfectly.
Why is the audio stretched once it is imported?

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H
Chipset:
North Bridge: AMD 785G
South Bridge: AMD SB710
Video: Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200
HDMI Audio through the HDMI port out to the TV.
Tried on Windows 7 Pro 32bit and Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit.
Tried with the integrated ALC889A audio device enabled and disabled (It seems that the video card drives the HDMI audio device though, because it still appears in Windows even if I disable the Audio device in BIOS).
Latest iTunes and drivers installed.
I have already tried all sugestions about matching Windows Audio settings to iTunes settings (bit depth, frequency rate).
Apple, any suggestions? I'm not having a great customer experience after buying a pair of HD movies in iTunes.
