Second hand phone
I have recently bought a second hand iphone which has been unlocked and I believe it's a genuine unlock and not jail broken. 1st of all, is there any way of telling? If it is a genuine unlock, will it become locked again if I update it? Finally if it is jail broken, how can I unjail brake it and get it unlocked officially?

If the iPhone was hacked to be unlocked, installing a firmware update or restoring the iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed will re-lock the iPhone to the carrier the iPhone was sold as carrier locked with when new.
To remove the hack, restore the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup.
The carrier an iPhone was sold as carrier locked with is the party you contact regarding getting the iPhone officially unlocked. If approved by the carrier, the carrier sends the unlock request to Apple with the official unlocking for the iPhone done with iTunes.

now it doesn't open.

Bear in mind that this method will erase all data on the phone - you won't be able to get it back - so be absolutely sure you want to do this before proceeding.
Open the ‘Settings' menu
Tap the ‘General' menu option
Tap the ‘Reset' category
Select ‘Erase all content and settings'
The phone will go through the deletion process which may take some time to complete, as much as 15 minutes. When it finishes the phone will reboot and be at factory default settings. -
Hey, i bought an iphone from online shop as a used phone and its locked by orange france, i contact them to unlock it but they refused, they said that we regret to inform you that we'r not able to unlock second hand phones? I need your help please. Its not fair , apple should figure it out

OrangeThis is no different with any carrier locked phone. Getting a carrier locked phone officially unlocked is the responsibility of the carrier, not the cell phone manufacturer. A cell phone manufacture cannot unlock a carrier locked phone without the carrier's authorization.
An iPhone sold as officially unlocked when new can be used by others as a second hand phone, and the same with any carrier locked iPhone that can be unlocked by the carrier, and many carriers offer it. -
i cant activate my iphone 5c because it has been locked with a different apple id. i dont know the original owner so i need help. its a second-hand phone that i bought some months back
Unfortunately, there is pretty much nothing you can do. Only the owner of the account used to lock it can remove the lock. If you can't contact whoever you purchased it from, or if they can't or won't remove the lock, then it's a brick. There is a very real chance that it's stolen.

If iOs 7 is installed on that iPhone, you will not be able to activate it without
the requested information. It is called Activation Lock and is a security
feature built into iOS 7. There is no workaround. -

I sold my iphone 4s and added some money to buy a second hand Iphone 5, i can't get into the phone because i need the previous owners apple Id and password and theres absolutely no way I can cintact the previous owner because i had thier number on my iphone 4s which was sold before i brought the 5.
Only the previous owner can unlock your phone, either by providing you with the code or by removing it from his liste of devices. I'm afraid that if you cannot contact him your phone is useless.

to replace a stolen phone - my husband bought a second hand iphone 3G; When he plugs it in it reads as that other person's phone; How does he get it to show as his phone? and access the backup saved on his itunes? I understand that he can't save anything bought on this iphone as we aren't a recognized computer but is there anything we can do short of reseting to factory settings? and will that work if we need to do that? It shows the right phone number as we purchased a new sim card and had it routed to the old number.

If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, setup as "new". -

You're hosed. You can not get past this if you don't know the Apple ID and password that the phone is locked with. Apparently the seller was not smart enough to remove their account from the phone prior to handing it over to you. Activation lock is intended to make stolen phones unusable, thus, reducing the demand for them...
There is no way to bypass the activation lock. -

You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.
