Second harddrive in laptop

I purchased a Satellite P770 recently.  One of the reasons I went with the one I did was because it is capable of having a second internal harddrive.  I didn't order it with a second drive because I already have a 500GB drive, and was planning to put in a 1TB later anyway (Toshiba didn't have 1TB drives as an option.).
I just discovered that while there is an empty bay, there is no sata port to connect a second harddrive to.  It looks like there's a place where a small board would be mounted, and the sata port the 1st harddrive is connected to also has a ribbon cable connector next to it.
I couldn't find anything on the Toshiba site, does anyone know where can I get the parts I need (second sata port board and harddrive caddy)?

I imagine by now you found your answer.  If not, the circuit board is available at:

  • Pavillion DV9702ea Second Harddrive

    Hi,
I've recently upgraded the main hard drive in this machine. I didnt even realise there was a second harddrive slot available but since there is I want to put in the original hard drive to it.
However, I notice I need both a mounting bracket for the HDD and also a converter to convert the SATA to the four pins on the motherboard.
Does anyone know what partnumbers these are or where I can get them,
    Any help much appreciated.

Hi, You will find your specific part numbers in the Maintenance and Service Guide for your laptop on hp's website, just go the support page and type in your laptop model dv9702ea and look for the guide. Also I would recommend calling hp so they can help you out further Best of luck.

    Hi
As far as I know the Tecra A9 cannot be upgraded with an slim select bay HDD adaptor.

  • I bought a song on itunes but it cuts out after 14 seconds on my laptop but on my ipod it plays in full, how can I rectify the tune on my pc, thankyou

I bought a song on itunes but it cuts out after 14 seconds on my laptop but on my ipod it plays in full, how can I rectify the tune on my pc so that I can play it in the house and put it on a cd for the car. I went into the itunes store to play the tune and it cuts out there too. thankyou

    Hello there, La Clairiere Feerique.
I understand you are having issues with playback of a purchased song. If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, it might be best to delete the song from your computer, then re-download from your purchase history.
To delete a song the following Knowledge Base article offers how to delete from your iOS device:
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5772
    Music
Open the section below for the device you are using.
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    Mac or PC
Before you delete, find out if you'll be able to download the song you deleted again (it depends on where you live). To delete a song:
    Launch iTunes.
From the Library pop-up menu, choose Music.
Click Songs in the navigation bar.
Click the song you want to delete.
Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
In iTunes 11, the album cover art will remain visible, but a cloud icon will appear on it to allow you to download the item again (in countries that support this).
Note: If you didn't purchase a song from the iTunes Store, you won't be able to download it again for free from iTunes in the Cloud. You might want to back it up somewhere on your computer.
Afterwards, re-download the purchases from your purchase history:

  • Re: Satellite P200-137 missing second harddrive connection

My Satellite P200-137 is missing its second harddrive connection. Regarding the manual and the specifications there should be a second connection, but when I opened the second drive bay the only thing I saw was an empty space for the drive and some solder connections, but no sockets to plugin the drive.
Is this normal: does the 137 model only have one functioning harddisk connection? Is it possible to get the second drive-socket attached?

    > Regarding the manual and the specifications there should be a second connection
I think you didnt read the manual properly ;)
It says that this option is available on certain models
Fact is that a same notebook series can be equipped with different hardware parts.
So the specifications are always different.
The P200 series seems to support different motherboards and some motherboards are not outfitted with two HDD controllers. So the notebook supports tow HDD bays but the second HDD controller is available.
Yes, this is a little bit confusing but its definitely nothing wrong with your notebook ;)

  • Data Migration to second Harddrive (like Hardwrk suggests)

I just built a second harddrive (ssd) into my mac. For the data migration, i followed the hardwrk suggestion, but this was for OSX Snow Leopard, so maybe that´s the reason why I now have both the new installed and the old system when i push "alt" key while booting, although the old system doesn´t exist any more. Now the question: is it possible to delete the "boot area" that the Harrdrive is not recognized any more as a bootable media? I don´t want to format it because there remains the user data and a windows partition. I only want to delete the actually not existing ability to boot, and the recovery partition.

  • G5 PowerPC 1.6GHz Second Harddrive

Purchased second harddrive Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80Gb secondhand. Installed in top bay. Turned on computer. It didnt boot at all. Took out Seagate HD and turned on. Computer booted up no problem. Any suggestions as to why it would not boot up?

hi BDAqua. thanks for responding. I have not tried exchanging positions. I am a little worried I may damage my good harddrive and lose all my info if the Seagate is faulty. The same applies to asking a friend to format - I wouldnt be popular if it caused havoc. As you have mentioned a short, alarm bells are ringing.
Logic told me that the drive should work in either position but the computer failed to boot with both in place so I thought it best to sit back and ask for help.
This is only the second time I have added a harddrive, the first was in a G3 too long ago to remember otherthan it was not a problem. I think the Harddrive is defective so will contact the sellers. I dont want to take any risks.
    thanks for your help.

  • Adding a second harddrive on split x2

I have an HP SPlit X2, and I have read on various sites that a second harddrive can be added to the base.  But I have also read that someone tried this and there were no cables to support a second harddrive in the base.  Does anyone know if one this is possible, and two how do you do it.

Hello plloyd1010. If you call this HP number, you will be able to order the kit: 1-800-227-8164. The hours of operation are Monday to Saturday, 6:00am-6:00pm Mountain. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • Second Harddrive

I am wanting to ad a second harddrive to my Dual 1.8 G5, butI do not what to buy as far as the connections.
What do these computers use, ATA/100, SATA-150, SATA-300?
    Thanks
    charles

Well - the simple answer is SATA-150 - see Storage at the bottom of the page here
    http://support.apple.com/specs/powermac/PowerMac_G5_June2004.html
Expect you know that the connectors for a second HD are already installed in the G5, tucked in front of the lower drive bay B. The position of the spare guide screws for the drive - in a vertical row in the grey plastic drive bay fan bracket - is shown in Figure 7 of the drive installation instructions

I have a problem with my new Apple Air. It usually takes few seconds for the laptop to be untouched in order to be locked. So, sometimes when the screen starts to get dim in order to lock, I immediately touch the keypad to avoid locking the laptop, the result is a black screen appears with no responding to anything from pressing the keyboard to pressing the touchpad. It takes few minutes for the laptop to open again and then a message appears saying that there was a problem with the lock security.
    What is happening exactly?

It sounds like your sleep timers are set to too low of a value.  Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver and set both timers to longer times.  The computer sleep timer should be a longer time than the display sleep timer.

  • Notification with bad English appears on my daughter's second hand purchased laptop. Virus or real?

    Hi,
I purchased a second hand laptop for my daughter over a year ago. Now she got the following message on her screen and it cannot be deleted. Is this a virus or is it for real?
"This is a stolen computer, and it's being tracked by legal owner. Pictures etc. have been taken and your physical location has been tracked. Contact the owner at to resolve the situation nice and quick."

  • How do I connect my second PC or Laptop to main PC with router?

I recently bought a new Desktop PC and had 2 laptops and now have an older Desktop PC!
I also bought a WRT150 Wireless-N router to connect to the enternet with both my PC and laptops , to play games , share pictures betwin my PC with friends and family.Previously I lived in place where no one know what does network word mean...so I'm new to enthernet and network and I have a question! Once I installed the software from instalation CD and succesfuly connected to the enternet trough the router how do I connect my other Desktop PC and Laptops to the router?Do I need to install that software to my other computers? How do I check if I need addition devices? Can any one write a step by step instruction for me or give me a link to the page if it was wroten already?

Ok so the new desktop which is wired has Vista.  You have 2 laptops with what OS?  Are they wired or wireless?  The older PC has what OS and what network card (wired or wireless)?
As you know Vista is a new operating system and is not compatible with some routers yet so I would have another PC with Windows XP (with service pack 2) wired to your router.  Now the information on the network card that is needed is what type it it?  Wired or wireless which is easy to tell by if it needs to be plugged in or not.  Most wireless network cards come with a driver and software so that is the software I am referring to.
When setting your wireless security up some  older operating systems can not use WPA  or WPA2 so they have to use WEP which is not that good bet better then nothing at all.  The SSID has to be something other then linksys so you can identify your wireless network.  So when you get all this information also post your  router model/version and how you have it configured as far as the SSID and DHCP range, internet connection type (DSL or Cable) ,  and security.  Don't worry you system will still be secure as long as you DO NOT leave your routers password as admin and do not tell anyone your routers password for any reason.

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • Installing a second harddrive that has Windows on it already..Does it work?

Today I attempted to make a Windows partition using Bootcamp but then found out that my Windows XP disc was scratched to ** and doesn't work. But then I realized that I had a 120gig sata drive from my previous PC that already has WinXP SP2 as its OS. I called Apple today but they were unable to give me any help...
So I plugged in the Windows harddrive into my Mac and it booted to Windows just fine (and Windows was going crazy finding new hardware and what not.) However, I was unable to get my old usb mouse to work and inevitably couldn't do anything except shut it down and boot back up from the Mac OS drive.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can make this work? Perhaps by copying drivers or something from my mac drive to the windows drive? The only other option I can think of is purchasing a new Windows disc and making a partition through Bootcamp, which I'd rather not do if I can get this Windows OS drive to work.
    Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

Well I think I got it working. I tried installing Bootcamp from the DVD while my harddrive was connected to my PC but that failed (I think a few of the drivers were installed). Then I connected it to my Mac and booted up Windows in Safe Mode. I waited a number of minutes and then my usb mouse decided to work. I couldn't run the Bootcamp setup while in safe mode, so I booted Windows back up normally. I put in the Leopard/bootcamp disk and ran the set up and everything installed smoothly. Right now all the drivers (video, ethernet, etc.) seem to be working just fine. I'm currently in the middle of the Bootcamp 2.1 upgrade, but I think all is well now.
Thanks a lot for the reply and suggestions
