Second HDD on my HP Envy 17 j013cl is not recognized. It does not show up in Disk Management.

I'm trying to install a second HDD (Western Digital Blue, 1 tb). I just purhcased the caddy & cable that works with my HP Envy 17 j013cl model. Everything looks good, but the computer does not recognized the hard drive. The HDD definitely works becasue I can use the SATA to USB cable to access the drive and put files in it. The format is in NTFS.
What are your recommendations?? Is the second port broken?

Thanks for the reply.
I got it from amazon, but the title says it is from Newmodeus as well:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GIGJYBG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm pretty sure I'm aligning the cable right, but my laptop is not recognizing it.

  • Help - HDD not showing up in disk utility

    Hi,
Yesterday my MCP started playing up, so I ran disk utility. This brought a "invalid sibling" error (i forget exactly the terminology) and tried rebuling the b-tree. This hung for hours. I then borrowed a copy of Disk Warrior - and that failed crashed on the process of rebuliding. When I restarted my mac and tried using disk warrior again (as suggested by DW) it said that there was no hard drive connected. I have tried to reinstall Lion on again - but now, when I open Disk Utility my Hard Drive is not there. Can anyone suggests what I could do format this hard drive so that I can try and reinstall Lion? Thanks

If you can't boot from an OSX DVD, it sounds bad. Yet I think you said you were running Disk Utility from the DVD?
I got an external Firewire drive enclosure for 2.5 inch IDE drives from Other World Computing (OWC)
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MOTGFW400/ but similar items are available from many vendors like Newegg. About $60 for the basic model. More money can buy additional interfaces on the enclosure like FW800 and USB2; an AC adapter instead of letting the firewire bus power the drive (usually OK).

  • 2nd HDD not recognized in Win7 Disk Manager, Shows in Device Manager, BIOS, Win7 Repair CD

    Hello,
I am trying to add a newly purchased HDD to my laptop as the secondary HDD.  The primary is a 160 GB SSD.
Primary SSD: Intel 160 GB SSD model SSDSA2BW160G3H
Secondary HDD: WD 750 GB 7200 RPM SATA/300, Model WDBLHJ7500ANC-NRSN
Laptop: HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 Quad 17.3" laptop
Laptop Config: Intel i7-3720QM 2.6 GHz Quad Core, 8 GB RAM, nVidia GT650M, 160 GB SSD
    Laptop BIOS: F.24
    Laptop Date of Birth: 5/24/2012
    OS: Win 7 Prof x64
Shows up in BIOS (can run diagnostics OK).
Shows up in Win 7 Prof Device Manager.
Does NOT show up in Disk Manager.
Checked device drivers for Win7 Prof Device Manager HDD, have the latest.
Checked service manual, can't see anything that I missed.
Booted with Active@BootDisk (Win PE rescue disk), drive showed up as uninitialized.
Initialized drive, partitioned (one large), formatted NTFS.
Booted with Win 7 Repair Disk (Win PE), can see the drive in command prompt, able to write a text file to it OK.
Still won't show up in Win 7 Prof in Disk Manager.
Any ideas?  Maybe a firmware upgrade for the laptop?  Some kind of incompatibility with the HDD and SDD such as different dirve modes (don't believe that Win7 has issues with IDE versus AHCI devices)?
I had trouble adding a 2nd HDD to my dv7-6000 laptop; it finally just showed up months later. Is this common with HP laptops?
I am stumped and any help is appreciated.  I checked the Internets and didn't see anything other than HW issues. I need this to work for the new semester that started today.

    More testing:
WD Data Lifeguard (Western Digital's HDD diagnostics) also won't see the HDD after booting with Win 7 Prof off of the SSD.
Moved the HDD cable from the 2nd HDD to the primary header (SSD disconnected).  Was able to install another instance of Win7 on the 2nd HDD OK; this proves that the new WD HDD and the secondary cable are OK.  Moved the cable back to the 2nd header (still no SSD) and the computer booted off of the secondary HDD connected to the secondary header OK.
Added the SSD back to the primary header and booted into the instance of Win7 off of the SSD.  Disk Management can't see the 2nd HDD, WD Data Lifeguard can't see the 2nd HDD; however, Device Manager is able to see the 2nd HDD OK.
Ran Intel SSD toolbox on SSD; no issues.  Ran WD Align by Acronis on SSD (checks for advanced format alignment of 4K boundaries); it's already aligned to 4k boundaries.
Connected HDD to pri header, booted Win7 Ultimate on HDD.  Ran WD Data Lifeguard on HDD; it's fine.   Booted into WD Align by Acronis CD, ran WD align against HDD; it's already aligned to 4k boundaries.
Put HDD on pri header, SSD on secondary header and booted into Win7 Ultimate on HDD.  Able to see both drives in Dask Management.
Put SSD back onto primary header, HDD back onto 2nd header, booted into Win7 Prof on SSD.  Disk Management can't see the HDD again...
Updated laptop BIOS from F.24 to F.2D rev A (Install Shield Wizard confirms that it is for Win7 x64 as well as Win 8.1).  Didn't fix the issue...
Ran Intel Driver Update Utility.  I have the Intel RST (Rapid Store Technology) driver v 11.0.0.1032.  Did not state that I needed to upgrade this driver.  This is latest version on the HP website.
Everything works except having the SSD connected to the primary header, having the HDD connected to the secondary header, booting into Win7 Prof on the SSD and trying to see the HDD in Disk Management.  Unfortunately, this is the configuration that I need to work.
Any thoughts on what is causing this?  Hardware issue with HP Laptop?  Power supply issue?  Bad HDD controller?  Bad install of Win7 Prof on SSD (appears to run fine otherwise).

  • New HDD not showing in disk utility

    Help please!
i can up on a broken G5 i have replaced the HDD. now i am trying to install tiger. but the new internal HDD is not showing up in disk utility.
i plugged my passport in and it popped right up.
some one please let me know what you think.

Well, having a had hard drive connected may cause a grey screen (if the system cannot successfully perform a check of connected devices). Not sure about the fan.
If you have not done so yet, be sure to try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can also try resetting the SMU (power management).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
    Follow the procedure precisely.
It is also possible that the old drive was not bad and your iMac has some other problem. Did you ever test the previous drive on another Mac (or connected externally) to confirm it was faulty? That +other problem+ may be what you are experiencing now.
Also, I asked this previously but, are you able to start up the iMac using the optical drive, with a Mac OS X installation disc in there?

  • Booting from second HDD in Envy 17

I have just installed a second (hybrid) HDD in my brand new Envy 17 3270nr. Since this new HDD is supposed to be faster than the original one, I would like to have this new one as my main disk (disk 0) and boot from it. I have cloned the original HDD (disk 0) onto the new one (disk 1) and everything looks OK when I open Disk Management but in the BIOS setup it seems I cannot choose between disks to boot from, I can only switch the boot order between other internal or external devices and a internal hard drive. Would very much appreciate your guidance !

It is real simple...you can't boot from a drive in the second bay. Switch them.

  • Adding second HDD to HP ENVY 17-j171sa Leap Motion TS SE Notebook PC

    Hi
Just recently upgraded to SSD as HDD1 in my notebook using ribbon cable etc from 'newmodeUS'
All stable and running well, so I installed a second HDD (which I know is working ok) but the notebook does not see it.
I even installed the original HDD as HDD2 but same problem
I can't find any relevant info on diagnosing this issue, but wondered if this model (leap motion) can actually have a second internal HDD
I can't see anything in the BIOS concerning this
One point to note is that I had to remove a maetal plate which was fitted in HDD2 drive bay - possible that it is not designe to accept?
    Thanks

    Hi Again
I received the new cable from NewmodeUS and they were just great - the new cable arrived within days to the UK.
I have now tried all possible permustations using both cables in either port and my findings are that:
The new cable from NewModeUS is definitely OK.
I have used both cables in both ports and HDD2 NEVER sees a disk
I currently have my new SSD connected to HDD1 with the new cable and the HP Original drive in HDD2 using the original cable
So there is nothing wrong with cables or disks.
I have looked in the BIOS Setup and can't find any way to configure to make HDD2 Sata port work
I have tried looking on WIndows 8.1 device Man etc and can't find anything that I can enable.
So I guess the question is - WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
I still wonder if the Leap Motion or some such thing causes any system level restriction?
    Thanks again

  • Envy 15-kn003nl: second hdd slot/bay?

    Hi to everyone,
the specs of this notebook report the use of a M2 ssd, and this is good.
I'm wondering about the presence of the 2,5" slot/bay, since it will be a good thing adding a second drive, but i can't find such information.
    Thanks in advance.

I believe you wold like to know if you can install a second hard drive into your notebook. I do not believe there is room  inside  the laptop for a second hard drive.  Here is a link to the HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide.  I did not notice any thing in the guide that would indicate the option to install an additional drive.
There are some third party options to remove the optical drive and install an extra drive  in its place.  You may also consider an external drive as an alternative.
    I hope this helps

  • Satellite A300-15M - Can I install a second HDD?

    Hi there.
I own a SatelliteA300-15M. I bought the laptop 2 years ago. I have already 250GB hard drive which came with the laptop. Recently I got my laptop serviced from local shop. I noticed that it has an additional slot for another hard drive. I saw a post that some of the A300/A305 laptops have the space for second hard drive but not the connectors.
If anyone owns A300-15M can they please tell me if i can install a second internal hard drive in my model? Is there a sure way to find if I can really install a second hard drive?

    Hello
    > but not the connectors.
So the case is claer: If you dont have a second SATA connector, you cant install a second HDD.
Check also the forum regarding such questions. The point is that one notebook series (e. g. Satellite A300) is always equipped with the same case but the hardware is different. So not all models have the same features. ;)

  • Satellite X200-245 can i install a second HDD

    on satellite X200-245 : can i install a second hard drive ?
    is it possible ?
There is a place for it but no sata connection on the mother board where can i find this connector

No you cannot install the second HDD because there is no HDD connector which would allows to connect the HDD to the mobo.
And No, its not possible to upgrade the mobo with such connector.
The X200 has the two HDD bays because some X200 support 2 HDDs and some dont support it.
Your X200 doesnt support 2 HDD

  • How to connect a second monitor/TV to HP ENVY Beats All-In-One

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is even possible to connect a second monitor to the HP ENVY Beats All-In-One Desktop PC, because I'm trying to connect my TV as the second monitor through HDMI and I've tried everything that I could, but have come up empty handed?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
What is the model/product of your AIO machine ? I many cases, you can't use HDMI port to connect to a TV because it is HDMI IN port. You need USB - HDMI converter/adapter to connect to a TV (or monitor).
    Regards.

  • Can I use the second HDD in a Mini for Time Machine?

I am looking to replace one of the HDDs in a Mac Mini with an SSD, this would be for the main OS to work on and all my files, I am not a big advocate of spreading around my files over multiple data silos. I was wondering then, as I don't have a Time Capsule, whether it would be possible to dedicate the second HDD for exclusive use of Time Machine, backing everything up?
I don't have a Mini at the moment and so don't know how OS X treats the existing setup, is the HD treated as one, or are the two clearly separate? It's a mystery to me why there are two in the first place, I summise that it was an attempt by Apple to create the illusion of a fater computer by adding in a small amount of SSD to complement the larger (and cheaper) HDD?
Anyway, would splitting the two work and would it be easily achievable with existing tools in OS X?
    Thanks.

Yes, you can use the 2nd HDD with Time Machine as your TM back up drive.
As long as you are able to format your new SSD and the HDD, you can use them independently. I would advise using Terminal and the diskutil commands to do this as Mountain Lion 10.8.3's GUI Disk Utility will see the SSD and HDD as needing to be "fixed" (drives marked in RED) and if you choose to FIX the drives your two drives will automatically be setup as a Fusion drive and all data on the drives will be lost.

  • Can I build in second HDD on Satellite P200-1I4?

    Hi!
First of all sorry for my bad English. =((
I have a toshiba SATELLITE P200-1I4 and question is: can I install one more (additional) HDD. Or there is only one SATA slot in this laptop? Unfortunately laptop is not near me now, and I can't remove back panel and see it.
On Toshiba web site I can not find information about it.
    Some more information:
    SATELLITE P200-1I4
    S/N: z7269306k - M/N: PSPB3E-0J601MRU
Thanks, and i am hope all written above is understandable. =)

    Hi
I agree with the user above. Please have a look under the cover for second HDD slot to check if there is a second HDD connector or not. This takes only few minutes.
If yes you can ask your favorite computer store to get an additional HDD.

  • Can i put in second HDD into Satellite A300-1EG

    Hello,
The question is can i put in second HDD to Toshiba A300-1EG notebook, there is a place for one as I found, and what HDD should it be, i mean 2,5" and etc?
As I read, there can be no connection for HDD, all depends on model, how can I found out?
    Thanks.

    Hi
    You can check this yourself.
Remove the plastic cover which secures the second HDD bay.
If there are some HDD connectors then you could install an second HDD.
If the connectors are missing, then you will not be able to use second HDD.
I know its a little but confusing because of the second HDD bay but the point is that different A300 models supports different motherboards and not all motherboards are equipped with two HDD controllers.
