Second HDD sleep... possible?

Hi!!
I have a Macbook pro with 1 SSD and 1 HDD (replaced in DVD slot). The HDD I use for music, movies... is there a way to sleep the HDD when I'm not using it, so I can save some battery?
thanks!

If you dontt have such a connector, you cant install a second HDD. Furthermore you cant buy such a SATA connector because they are fixed/soldered on mainboard.
So your only option is exchanging the HDD with another model. As I wrote you can take a 500GB model. It must be a 2.5 HDD with SATA interface.
I can recommend a Western Digital Caviar Blue series. Thats a good compromise between performance and noise.
But of course, Toshiba HDDs will work too. ;)

  • Is second HDD in Satellite A300D possible?

    Hello.
I found in the laptop compartment for a second hard drive, but did not understand whether it pop in a second hard drive.
Maybe someone is trying to turn. Thanks in advance.
PS: Sorry for English - interpreter)

    Hi
There are different A300D on the market with different motherboards and different hardware specifications. But the cover and the bottom is always the same.
Therefore you can find an second HDD bay but not all A300D models would support the second HDD.
You can try to remove the cover which secures the second HDD bay to check the HDD connectors. If there are no connectors, then the second HDD is not possible!

  • Second HDD for Satellite P200D possible?

Hi, got a Satellite P200D which I've been very happy with, but need more space - is it possible to either fit a larger primary drive (curently around 200GB) or a secondary drive in the spare bay. If secondary drive is viable option, what leads, connectors, mounts etc do I need?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi buddy,

If yes you can buy such a second HDD caddy from an authorized service provider.
Otherwise its not possible to a add a second HDD.

  • Satellite X200-245 can i install a second HDD

    on satellite X200-245 : can i install a second hard drive ?
    is it possible ?
There is a place for it but no sata connection on the mother board where can i find this connector

No you cannot install the second HDD because there is no HDD connector which would allows to connect the HDD to the mobo.
And No, its not possible to upgrade the mobo with such connector.
The X200 has the two HDD bays because some X200 support 2 HDDs and some dont support it.
Your X200 doesnt support 2 HDD

  • Can I use the second HDD in a Mini for Time Machine?

I am looking to replace one of the HDDs in a Mac Mini with an SSD, this would be for the main OS to work on and all my files, I am not a big advocate of spreading around my files over multiple data silos. I was wondering then, as I don't have a Time Capsule, whether it would be possible to dedicate the second HDD for exclusive use of Time Machine, backing everything up?
I don't have a Mini at the moment and so don't know how OS X treats the existing setup, is the HD treated as one, or are the two clearly separate? It's a mystery to me why there are two in the first place, I summise that it was an attempt by Apple to create the illusion of a fater computer by adding in a small amount of SSD to complement the larger (and cheaper) HDD?
Anyway, would splitting the two work and would it be easily achievable with existing tools in OS X?
    Thanks.

Yes, you can use the 2nd HDD with Time Machine as your TM back up drive.
As long as you are able to format your new SSD and the HDD, you can use them independently. I would advise using Terminal and the diskutil commands to do this as Mountain Lion 10.8.3's GUI Disk Utility will see the SSD and HDD as needing to be "fixed" (drives marked in RED) and if you choose to FIX the drives your two drives will automatically be setup as a Fusion drive and all data on the drives will be lost.

  • Can I use a second HDD in Satellite P300-27x?

    Hello,
is it possible to install a second harddisc in Satellite P300-27x? Is there a connector?

    Hi,
so my question has not been answered yet. Once again:
is it possible to use a second HDD in P300-27x???
    Is there a second Sata-connector?
No, i can`t look inside, because i haven`t one. I would like to change my notebook (P300-20w, it is LOUD cause of GPU), but i need to know if it`s possible to use a second hdd in this model.
Maybe someone can give me an answer?
    Thx

  • Satellite P205-S6337 - Can I install another second HDD?

Totally need another HDD for music/other files.
Really don't want to buy a dock such as.. http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/drives/a7ea/.
Is it possible that I can install a second SATA HD on this notebook?
I'm not too good with working with notebooks really.
Anyone have any instructions on how i would do this?
And how to install another GB of ram?
I have both on my old notebook.

    Hi
Did you check your user manual?
Usually the user manual provides already such infos.
Im not quite sure if an second HDD could be possible. Check bottom of the unit.
Some series are equipped with a second HDD bay. You could try to remove the plastic cover which secures such HDD bay and could check if there are some HDD connectors which would make the second HD upgrade possible.
It seems that this notebook was also equipped with 2GB RAM So it could be possible to upgrade the RAM up to 4GB. But in my opinion its really not necessary to have 4GB RAM inside if you are using the Windows 32bit OS.
The point is that your 32bit OS can use max 3.2GB RAM due to the 32bit limitation.
So if you want to upgrade the RAM then I would recommend taking 1x 1GB and 1x 2GB RAM module.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - Can I add a second HDD?

    Hi Forums,
I have a A300 PSAGDA-02000R and was wondering if is possible to add a second HDD to it. after I removed the panel to inspect where the second HDD goes I discovered that there was no connectors, so I was wondering if you can purchased or have Toshiba install a second set of connectors?
    any answer would be great
    thanks F1R3F1GHT

    > after I removed the panel to inspect where the second HDD goes I discovered that there was no connectors, so I was wondering if you can purchased or have Toshiba install a second set of connectors?
There are no connectors and this means that there is no second HDD controller on the motherboard and this means that second HDD is not possible.
This means also that its not possible to add any connectors or any controllers to the motherboard

  • How to install a second HDD in Stelllite P200D

I want to install a SSD and move my HDD into the slot for the second HDD. I can't find any document how to install the second HDD. Do I need special adapter or any HW to do that?
    kind regards Frank

    Hi
At the bottom of the unit you can find two HDD bays. Right?
But one of the bays does not contain any connectors? Right?
At the first look this might be a little bit strange but fact is that different Satellite P200/P200D models were available on the market with different motherboards.
Some would support a 2nd HDD but some units dont. But all models supports the same bottom covers and some people think that an 2nd HDD would be possible which is wrong.

  • Could I use a second HDD in my Qosmio F50-108

Could I set a second HDD in my Qosmio F50-108...
What should I be careful of?
    What HDD should I buy?
    Thanks...........
    Message was edited by: dpasinis

    I doubt this is possible.
As Im not mistaken the F50-108 belongs to the PQF55E series and checking this model series I found and info that this notebook supports a 320GB (5400rpm) SATA HDD but it doesnt support the second HDD.
However, I would recommend checking the bottom of the unit. If there is an possibility for an HDD upgrade then you should find a second HDD bay with an HDD SATA connector.

  • Second HDD in Satellite X200-21K (PSPBUE)

I'm looking for some informations about installing second HDD into my laptop.
Laptop does have an "empty/spare" bay for second HDD, but there are no disk connectors in bay. So there is no easy way for upgrading.
So I've looked over the net, and as far as i know i have two options:
    1) Buy appropriate hdd connectors and 2.5" HDD. Take appart my laptop, connect cables onto motherboard and install second HDD in empty bay.
Q1) Does X200-21K motherboard have second (spare) SATA connector? I assume that motherboard have only two SATA connectors (one for HDD, and one for DVD).
Q2) Is possible to connect two hard drrives onto one SATA motherboard connector?
    2) Replace DVD with HDD
Q1) Is this possible? Did someone alreary replaced DVD with HDD?
I've seen on internet that this is possible on MacBook, and on some other laptops/notebook (HP,...)
    Thanks for answers

    hi petrusko_1,
i cant believer that there is space for a second hdd without connector...are you sure?
    can you upload a picture?
    - to your first question: do you have the whole number at hands (starting with PSPBUE-)?
this number indicates what hardware/software is inside (ram, hdd, grafics etc)
    - second one with the sata issue: one connector = one drive
if you are shure that there is only one connector in your machine you wont be able to connect 2 drives to this single connector.
soldering another connector to the mainboard is dangerous and its doubtful that it will work afterwards....
your idea with using the second connector of the odd (optical disk drive) isnt bad...
maybe it is a baymodule available where you can put in the sec. hdd and install it to the odd bay....
btw: the sata controller doesnt care if there is a hdd or odd attached....

  • P6N Diamond New Problem: Second HDD Randomly Starts/Stops Since recent Update

    Howdy All,
Continuing problems with the P5N Diamond.
    This one's new.
Previously I had the same problem as many others with the cold boot issue. Somehow, someway, it just stopped: cold boot or not, one day it just started booting fine....go figure.
However, I recently (about 3 weeks ago) did the MSI live update that included something or other pertaining to the E-SATA....support for it or something to that end. Although I don't use the E-SATA, I installed it thinking I might at some point and since installing it, I have discovered a new problem: my second drives (in RAID 0) just opens/closes randomly. It seems to mostly occur when operating demanding programs: gaming, watching a video, that sort of thing.
Everytime it does this, it takes me to desktop and asks me what program I want to use to open the program......which when I do, is nothing more than my second (D drive) HDDs in RAID 0. I then get the yellow pop up message in the bottom toolbar from Windows saying it's experienced a write failure problem. It hasn't done any damage that I can tell and I've lost nothing, but being taken to desktop perpetually is a major issue. This problem is driving me absolutely up the wall. No sooner than I start to do something and wham.....I'm at desktop being asked what program I want to use to open up the second HDDs. I've also tried just leaving it open but to no avail: it just randomly continues to open and close.
I have my O/S on the C drive and 2 more HDDs in RAID O for back up on ports 6 & 7. Since doing the MSI update that included the E-SATA whatever, this new problem almost prevents the computer from being usable: certainly nothing in gaming is possible along with anything that requires uninterruption.
    Here's my system:
    M/B: P6N Diamond
    CPU: E6850
    RAM: Corsair XMS PC-8500, 2 x 1 gig
    HDD: 1- WD 150 Raptor
    HDD: 2- WD 5000AAKS in Raid 0
    Vid Card: EVGA 8800GTX
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 750 Silencer
    ODD: Sony DRU 830A
    FDD: Sony Floppy
    Misc: Scythe fans x 5
    O/S: XP Pro w/ SP2
    Running BIOS 1.2
So, being fairly certain the MSI update created the problem, my question is, how do I undo the MSI's most recent update to remove it? When I go into Add/Remove Programs, nothing is listed there. I'm not sure this is the source of the problem but I do know I didn't have it beforehand.
I'd greatly appreciate any help with this....even any ideas. While I have some computer knowledge, I'm not as tech savvy as most here, but this problem is, apart from driving me up a wall, making the computer almost unusable. FYI, I haven't done a System Restore because I've installed several things since and don't want to lose them if I can isolate the problem, but I will if that's what you all recommend.
Again, sorry for what may be a noobish question, but I'm not sure where else to go. After dealing with MSI's tech support, I'd rather talk to a wall.
    Thanks greatly.
    Pepper1

    Mark,
Forgive me for asking, but I am a bit confused. Is your "cold boot issue" now solved? If so, do you think that the new drives are the key?

    Sorry for late post.
After setting up the HW RAID (2500YS) for booting the system still cold boots.  strangely this time the reset (Ctrl+Alt+Del) doesn't seem to work.  I must of did it two dozen times and it would never clear.  I then just powered off after the other 2 drives on the nvidia SATA cleared and seen the HD LED light up and stay on for a few seconds(seems stuck on the 4723 checks of the drive) and then powered down and powered right back up with no cold boot issue.  It has worked this way every time for the last week or so and I tested it like 20 or so times(3-4 times a day).  These drives are listed as being compatible after the firmware update (and I did that already) so I guess it is either the MB BIOS needs updating or it's the way the nvidia chipset runs this setup is wacky.  This is assuming the 4723 HD compatibility list is correct.
here's a summary of the drives so far.
36GB Raptors (old revision) - can take forever to boot properly and corrupted my disk in 3 days of testing (scrambled my directory structure)
105GB Raptors - Just reset(Ctrl+Alt+Del) 1-4 times after the HD LED goes solid for a few seconds.  worked for two months no errors.
250GB Caviar RE(2500YS) - have to power off (power button) when HD LED goes solid.  so far no problems for a week.
80 GB SATA II Hitachi Deskstar (HDS728080PLA380 - May 2005) - same as 150 GB Raptors, just a reset or four, only did a days worth of testing with no errors.
well, I was hoping for those 2500YS to work properly.  Now it makes it really hard to track the problems with so many different errors and 3 different places it can go wrong 4723/nvidia/msi/HD Manufacturer.  wait, that's 4.  Oh boy!
Hopefully this gets resolved soon.  I've already had to move this MB to my secondary system, and for other reasons than this.  I didn't mind hitting the reset button to get this to run.  I get the feeling that MSI has abandoned this board on us.  with the new P7N being released it will be even harder to get anyone to mess with this thing.

  • Adding second HDD to HP ENVY 17-j171sa Leap Motion TS SE Notebook PC

    Hi
Just recently upgraded to SSD as HDD1 in my notebook using ribbon cable etc from 'newmodeUS'
All stable and running well, so I installed a second HDD (which I know is working ok) but the notebook does not see it.
I even installed the original HDD as HDD2 but same problem
I can't find any relevant info on diagnosing this issue, but wondered if this model (leap motion) can actually have a second internal HDD
I can't see anything in the BIOS concerning this
One point to note is that I had to remove a maetal plate which was fitted in HDD2 drive bay - possible that it is not designe to accept?
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi Again
I received the new cable from NewmodeUS and they were just great - the new cable arrived within days to the UK.
I have now tried all possible permustations using both cables in either port and my findings are that:
The new cable from NewModeUS is definitely OK.
I have used both cables in both ports and HDD2 NEVER sees a disk
I currently have my new SSD connected to HDD1 with the new cable and the HP Original drive in HDD2 using the original cable
So there is nothing wrong with cables or disks.
I have looked in the BIOS Setup and can't find any way to configure to make HDD2 Sata port work
I have tried looking on WIndows 8.1 device Man etc and can't find anything that I can enable.
So I guess the question is - WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
I still wonder if the Leap Motion or some such thing causes any system level restriction?
    Thanks again
    Robert
