Second iDevice not recognized.

I have an iPhone 3GS and iPad 1st Gen. When I first purchased my iPhone, I sync'd it with my Powerbook G4 without a problem. When I bought my iPad, the Powerbook wouldn't recognize it so I sync'd it with my Windows 7 system. When I updated my iPhone 3GS, it stopped being able to be recognized with my Powerbook G4 so I Authorized it to work on my Windows 7 system. Unfortunately the iPhone is only recognized when an update is available. All other times it seems to pause for 30 - 45 seconds with iTunes being unresponsive. Eventually it times out but the iPhone isn't listed.
My wife also has an iPhone 3GS and recently purchased the iPad2. She was using a Dell laptop to sync her tunes and apps and was able to successfully sync both her iPhone and iPad2. Her Dell is acting up and with the iPad2 she feels she can punt the laptop, but only if her iPhone and iPad2 work.
So I brought up her account on the Windows 7 system, plugged in her iPhone, which successfully updated its firmware to 4.3.4, and it backed up and sync'd successfully. But when I plug in her iPad2, iTunes goes into the same 30 - 45 second pause I get with my iPhone, times out, and the iPad2 isn't listed. Same as my second iDevice (iPhone).
Personally it didn't bug me enough to do more than live with it. My tunes and such are on the device so I'm not hurting but of course my wife isn't technical so it either works or it doesn't.
I have shut down iTunes and let plugging in the iDevice activate it which does start iTunes but the second device doesn't get recognized unless there's an update available.
I haven't removed iTunes yet although that's an option of course. I did install Windows 7 a bit over a year ago.
Suggestions?
Thanks.
Carl

After reviewing some of the support docs, it looks like each iDevice can only be used on a specific USB port.
I plugged my iPad in to the first USB port on the front panel and it worked and updated the firmware to 4.3.4. I plugged my iPhone into the same USB port and it did the same as listed above. But when I plugged it in to the second USB port, it recognized it and applied the 4.3.4 firmware update _and_ was seen again after it restarted.
I tried it with my wife's iPad2/iPhone and it worked the same.
It's possible that if the Apple Mobile Device Agent (or whatever the acronym is) is restarted, it might be able to recognize each iDevice plugged in to the same port but it's easier to just switch to the second USB.

  • IPod Shuffle second generation not recognized by my computer

    I wish somenone can help.
Since I have bought my iPod, I was never able to connect it to my computer or any other computer (all PC's using Vista or XP). Always the same message "USB device not recognized". I have the latest iTunes version (8.0.0.35) and cannot find the trace of the iPod there too (logical indeed as the device is not recognized by the system).
While checking the USB port it says that the driver is not installed for this device (still the port works fine).
I just don't know how to charge the battery, connect my iPod and start using it. Is it a default from the factory or else...?
    Thank you for your help.

So I was downloading songs off of LimeWire (shame on me, i know, but i had no money in the itunes store and i dont use my dads credit card for song purchases), and i put a song on my ipod shuffle 2G and it immediately disconnected from the computer. When I reconnected it to the dock, it did not appear in the "Devices" section of the iTunes sidebar, or in finder. It still plays music fine, and charges, but I would like to clear the songs off of it as I am giving it away. However, it doesnt show up in iTunes or in disk utility as another post elsewhere suggested, and the ipod resetter can't find it. So, does this sound like a virus or corrupted song file? I dont think it was, as whenever I download a corrupted song from limewire, the computer alerts me and doesnt allow the file into iTunes. any thoughts? help?

I only have one optical drive, so I can't check it out, but you may want to try this:
Remove the eject icon from the menu bar, dragging it out by holding down .
Make sure both drives have a cd/dvd loaded.
Restore the eject icon by double clicking /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/Eject.menu
    Any difference??

  • Installed Leopard Update, Now Second Monitor Not Recognized

Is there any way to remove the 1.3 update? I now cannot use my second monitor and when I tried to use time machine, well you can guess what happened. The system froze as soon as I clicked on the icon.
I just switched to a Mac and I am starting to regret the decision.

    Carl, try a couple things....
    1) Startup your computer holding SHIFT down. This may take a while to startup. When it's done, simply restart again. Test your system.
    2) Zap the PRAM by holding down CMD-SHIFT-P-R as your computer starts up. Release those keys when you hear the second startup chime. Then test your system again.
    3) Repair Disk Permissions using DISK UTILITY in your Utilities folder.
    4) Reset the System Memory Unit by simply shutting the computer down, unplugging EVERYTHING from the computer (specially the power cord) and let it set for 5-10 minutes. Then plug everything back in and restart.
It will not hurt to try these steps. It's worth a shot. Good luck!

  • Dv7 1135 second HD not recognized

Hello, I recently tried to add a 500 gb Sata drive to my second slot in a dv7 1135.  I know the specs say 320 in the recommended replace ment, but when I sent the computer back to HP to replace the motherboard, I took the original drive out to preserve my data and sent an empty 500 gb drive which they used to restore the fatory setting.  So I know a 500 gb drive works in the computer.
I put the first 500 gb drive away in case I ever need to replace the original drive.  I purchased the second for additional storage but the system does not show a drive.  My question is whether this is a problem that requires updating the original BIOS for the computer, or is it something else?
    Thanks for any advice.

So you are being asked for a driver to support the hard drive during Windows installation? That is because the storage manager on that laptop is RAID, not ahci and Windows 7 does not have that RAID driver available on the install disk. But never fear Intel makes the driver available here:
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24779/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver
You need the F6 driver for the correct 32 or 64 bit installation you are doing.  If 64 bit you need f6flpy-x64.zip. These are compressed (.zip) files. Download the .zip to another computer and extract the .zip to a thumb drive and when you hit the point in the Windows install when it is asking for a driver, navigate to the thumb drive location where the files have been extracted. This should allow you to proceed to install Windows.

  • IPod shuffle (Second Generation) not recognized by Vista :(

I am using Windows Vista, having iTunes 7.4.1.2 installed.
However, my windows does not recognize or sync with my (2nd G) shuffle.
    Can someone here help me

Hmmm. Actually, it might not be vista related b/c I just tried it on an XP machine and found the same problem. The reset utility (which still doesn't work on Vista, btw) can't find it either. Oddly enough, it still plays music and the battery charges. I guess my choices are 1) throw it away; 2) alway listen to the same songs over and over and over; 3) have it repaired. I've already had Apple replace it twice, so that's not really a very viable option. I think I'll throw it away.
No more apple devices for me. I've spent more time with shuffle and Airport Express issues than with every other piece of hardware I have combined.
    Good riddens!

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required
If you do not have that information you will not be able to use the Device.

  • Second HDD on my HP Envy 17 j013cl is not recognized. It does not show up in Disk Management.

I'm trying to install a second HDD (Western Digital Blue, 1 tb). I just purhcased the caddy & cable that works with my HP Envy 17 j013cl model. Everything looks good, but the computer does not recognized the hard drive. The HDD definitely works becasue I can use the SATA to USB cable to access the drive and put files in it. The format is in NTFS.
What are your recommendations?? Is the second port broken?

    Thanks for the reply.
I got it from amazon, but the title says it is from Newmodeus as well:
