Oh that does remind me of Britain in Bloom from the other year, when they converted old vehicles into beautiful floral displays. And - in spite of my name - hydrangeas are my favourite blooms. Well done on being selected for Pic of the Day.

  • Does Second Life work with the new MacBook Pro retina display?

Any information would be very helpful.
    Thanks in advance

I have looked on all their forums and there are no posts about it.  I thought I would try here to see if anyone has had any experience with this.
    Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Second Life failing in Boot Camp for Blackbook

    Hey everyone.
I've been scouring the forums looking for solutions to get Second Life running on my Blackbook (4 gig RAM, 2.2 Ghz, the damnable X3100 graphics chip).
So far, I've tried the .xml occlusion fix in Second Life, Windlight, and Secondlife (RC), and it fails every time.
Then, I tried installing a fresh copy of XP under Boot Camp. It won't even let me open SL or Windlight, saying I don't have the proper video drivers. This is weird, because everything I've seen on this forum suggests that the Windows version works fine for people.
I'm about to give the OpenGL MBP workaround a shot but I don't have much faith. Can anyone help me? I'd hate to have upgraded to a beautiful Blackbook only to find out SL doesn't run on it.
    Thanks.

Yes, I have. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be alot of activity, and there is nothing in those forums about Second Life.
Since the problems with running Second Life seem to be confined to the Macbooks as opposed to Boot Camp, the questions (and the answers) have been located more here. Hence me posting the thread in this forum.
    Thanks though

  • Second Life

Why won't Safari let me use a link to Second Life? When I receive an email from someone affiliated with Second Life and the email contains a link to a specific area in SL, I get an error message that tells me that Safari cannot connect to anything whose site begins "second life." I am a new Mac user and find this infuriating. Help and/or insight please. It's making me wish I hadn't purchased a MacBook Air.

    Hi
Welcome to Apple Discussions and Mac Computing
The block sounds more like it's generated by Second Life than by Safari. Safari simply responds to the site code/prompts generated by either Second Life or by a 3rd party Internet program designed to block certain sites (you would have had to install such a program).
The easy step is to first go to Safari Preferences>Security>Show Cookies panel. There, enter Second Life in the spotlight panel. Then, click on the Second Life Cookies to remove them. Close the panel. Next go to the Safari Menu>Empty Cache. Then, back to the e-mail and try the link again (you may need to be logged in to Second Life).
If the same error prompt appears...try connecting to Second Life via Firefox? To do so, first change your browser of choice in Safari Preferences>General panel to Firefox (you'll need to download/install it first if it's not on your system already). Then, go back to the e-mail and try a link. Firefox ought to open. Let me know what you discover.

  • IPhone 5 battery life dramatically has changed. I can hardly go through the day without it dying. Once I hit 20% it's down hill from there. It will jump down to 9% in a few seconds and refuse to come back on. Any fixes?

I bought my iPhone 5 the day the stores in my area received them in. I was incredibly impressed with the battery life for an iPhone. The battery life was awesome up until the last few weeks. Now I can hardly make it through the day on a charge. When I get around 20% power left its only a matter of a few seconds before the batter jumps down to below 10% without me doing anything. Immediately after that it shuts off and refuses to come back on when only 30 seconds ago it said I had 20% battery power.... I'm not a terribly heavy user on my phone. I just check the social media sites a few times a day and send a few text messages and that's all. I've shut off location services, Bluetooth, automatic updating of email, closing apps and all that stuff. I'm almost always connected to wifi when I do anything with the Internet  on my phone.

    Hi, beth.lau.gr.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you have been experiencing issues with your iPhone restarting and showing you a blue screen.  I wont be able to give you an exact answer as to why this is happening.  However, this is the most relevant troubleshooting article for this issue.  This article also provides options to reach out to us via phone for additional assistance.

  • Useful Life in Dep Key "to the day"

    Hi,
we have two depreciation areas one for IN gaap and the other for US GAAP. In GAAP has depreciation keys with "to the day" feature and the US GAAP has depreciation keys created with useful life feature.
Now the issue is since useful life has got no role in the case of IN GAAP, whenever we create asset we press enter enter and the same usefule life as per US GAAP get copied in the US GAAP also as it has no relevance for calculation.
The problem is that if i enter only period 1 as useful life for US GAAP( meaning that the asset is to be fully depreciated in one month for US GAAP purpose) and the same period 1 is entered in IN GAAP. then for IN GAAP my full asset is getting depreciated in 6 months wheras the depreciation key assigned to it is 13,91 wdv method( with to the day tick).
I changed the period 1 and made it 999 for IN GAAP purpose and tested it in test system and then system is showing correct values.
Can anyone throw some light on this issue as to why it is changing in case of useful life when the dep to the day is ticked in depreciation key.
    Regards,
    SAPFICO

I upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 yesterday, and now my battery life has really deteriorated since.I was making it thru the day with about 70% battery life left. It is now 3:30 and I'm already down to 50%. The upgrade worsened my situation. Any help out there?

I had the battery problem. I upgraded the to iOS 5.0.1 last night and at least that problem seems to have been fixed. However, the problem with no audio on phone calls remains. Have not tried swapping the SIM card yet. The ATT guy says that they have resolved 90% of the no audio issues with a new SIM card. Not sure athat what has to do with anything but will try that first before requesting a replacement phone.

  • Motion, Maya, StudioMax,Combustion,Crysis,Second Life, on the Macbook Pro?

I could not find info about Maya anywhere. So I am wondering if the new Macbook's can handle these big Programs? Second life is a huge problem, friends
complain all the time about freeze ups. I always work with desktops. But now I am more mobile than ever. I have seen friends with some of these working on a Macbookpro in windows not leopard, and also the new Dell xps m1530. I dislike Dell's support and lack of quality but at $1800 compared to $2400 for the Macbook pro? It begs a comparison for me, especially if the software support on the Macbook pro is not there. And if the 8600 gt.graphics really hold up.Big name gaming rigs are an option but that is why I have a desktop. Any feedback on the performance of the MacbookPro especially with Maya,StudioMax, is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Don't know how much you'll learn here. Most of the software you've mentioned comes from Autodesk, which isn't very clear on Leopard support. Maybe Autodesk's discussions forum would be more informative: http://discussion.autodesk.com/index.jspa
Still, stick around-there must be something on it...
PS: Second life system requirements are poor compared to an MBP. It should work well
http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php .Always keep in mind OS X becomes better with time. It's still 10.5.1

  • I want to write a script or Automator workflow/app that emails a random shortcut of the day to three recipients. The source is from an Excel spreadsheet. One column is the shortcut, and the second column is the definition. Anyone have experience?

I want to write a script or Automator workflow/app that automatically emails a random shortcut of the day to three recipients. The source is from an Excel spreadsheet. One column is the shortcut, and the second column is the definition. Anyone have similar experience and know that this would work?

I have had a first stab at the script, below.  It uses a file to store the shortcuts and command [descriptions].  You should be able to see from the script annotations how to add a new one.  (I populated 1-4 with real data, but got lazy after that, so you have a few placeholders to work with first.
As I have noted, once you are happy that you have all the data in the file, you can comment out part of the script for ongoing use.  (BTW, my reluctance to use Excel is that I don't currently have it installed and I don't want to offer wrong advice.  If you have Numbers, I do have that and could probably modify to work with a spreadsheet from there.  This might be especially useful if you have the data already sitting in Excel.)
A few things came-up whilist I was writing the script:
    1.     Currently, all recipients will not only get the same tip at the same time, but they will see the names and email addresses of the others who receive them.  It is possible to modify this.
    2.     I have added a property gRandomCheck which keeps track of which shortcut has already been used (since the last time the script was compiled.  This will prevent the same tip being sent more than once.    When all tips have been sent once, the script will alert you and not send anything until reset.  It does not check on a per-addressee basis (which would be a refinement).  (If you add a new addressee at this stage, the whole process will start again, and you may not really want this to be the behaviour.)
    3.     The way that I have built the list, commandList, is deliberately cumbersome - it's for the sake of clarity.  If you prefer, you can construct the whole list as {{shortcut:"X", command:"X"}, {shortcut:"Y", command:"Y"}}
Have a look - I am sure you will have questions!
SCRIPT STARTS HERE  Paste the following lines (thru the end) into a new AppleScript Editor document and press RUN
--The property gRandomCheck persists between runs and is used to stop sending the same hint twice.
    property gRandomCheck : {}
--I am defining a file on the desktop.  It doesn't have to be in this location
set theFolder to path to desktop
set commandFile to (theFolder as text) & "CommandFile.csv"
--(* Unless you need to change the file contents you do not need to write to it each time.  Remove the "--" on this line and before the asterisk about 18 lines below
