Second minitor via USB to DVI adaptor

I would like to use a second monitor in FCPX which is a non-thunderbolt monitor.
My only thunderbolt port on my MacbookPro is being used for a Matro MXO2 (end of chain device) so if I want to add another monitor which is non-thunderbolt, could I use a usb to DVI graphics adaptor? Has anyone used one of these in FCPX?
Would the USB to DVI adaptor need to support Open GL?
Thanks

For example, I am thinking of using something like this for the second monitor:

This is not Open GL compatible. Does that matter to view the events or viewer on the second monitor?

Can Time Machine back up a second external hard drive that is attached via usb to a Time Capsule?
    I have a iMac with 10.7.4

I want to back up the data on the external Hard Drive that is attached to the Time Capsule to the Tim Capsule using Time Machine.
Thanks for the clarification.  Unfortunately, that will not work.  You will need to connect the drive directly to your Mac if you want Time Machine to backup the drive to the Time Capsule.

  • How to disable the 30 seconds of CDROM installer when connecting via USB?

A few days ago my wife and I acquired two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones as our first smart phones.  When I connect either phone to any of the three different Windows 7 computers I have tried, the phone mounts as a virtual CDROM containing a Verizon software installer.  After 30 seconds elapse, it switches to a portable device (phone) and I can see the folders and files on the phone that I want to access via USB.
Having to wait for that 30 seconds of CDROM phase is super-annoying.  Is there any way I can disable that stupid CDROM behavior and have the phone directly mount as a phone?
Somebody else's description of this same problem is here:
<< Link removed to comply with Verizon Wireless Terms of Service >>
Like the person in that forum post, I have disabled the CDROM in Windows Device Manager.  Windows no longer pops open an autorun dialog, but the CDROM is present and will stay connected for 30 seconds.  From the phone side I can display the notifications, tap into the USB connection notification (it says the phone is connected as an "installer"), and then select Media Device or Camera to force the phone out of CDROM mode, but that is not a persistent choice and I have to do it every time I don't want to wait for the 30 seconds to elapse.  It's annoying.
General googling turns up various discussion about this, but the solutions all assume ...  a road I want to go down at this time.
    Thanks...

You might try holding down shift when connecting to the PC. That won't solve your default connect option issue, but may stop the autoplay check for the device.
A better solution might be to simply use an app like WiFi File Explorer or AirDroid, both available in Play. This eliminates the USB piece and once you get accustom to it is generally much easier than how you are trying to manage your files.

  • M01061 USB DVI Adaptors issues displaying video and Browsers....

I have a pair of  M01061 USB DVI Adaptors and they both connect fine to my Windows 7 laptop.
However, if I drag a Browser window, IE, Firefox, Chrome etc into a Lenovo adaptor monitor, the browser freezes. Same with any playing Videos. Dragging them back works fine.
    Any ideas please?

which CPU do you have on your win 7 laptop (and how much RAM do you have)? also are you using them connected directly to the laptop or through dock/hub? Also what is the resolution of the screen you are supporting.
What you are saying is usually normal with the USB display adapter, this is a bandwidth issue and this problem gets worse on higher resolution LCD.

Why won't my laptop recognize my iPod nano second generation when I plug it in via USB? It does recognize my ipad mini. I was hoping to transfer music from my iPod to my ipad mini

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. You can use some third party software like this iPod file transfer, it can help you copy files from iPod to computer, and then you can use iTunes to sync the music to your iPad mini.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • PCMCIA adaptor via USB or Firewire?

    Hi,
I really want to get connected using a PCMCIA external modem here in Melbourne (through iBurst providing wireless coverage over many klms!), but ofcourse the G4 Powerbook 12" doesn't have a PCMCIA slot. Is it possible to get an adaptor via USB or firewire? Do you think it would work okay with such new technology dedicated to the PCMCIA slot? (I have had trouble contacting the company iBurst personally to ask!)
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have found a couple of things as i have been looking too...
One will do it but it seems as though it's availabel for OEM only (maybe we could get enough folk together and get some!?)
Other seems to offer all the connections but the blurb about it says otherwise.

  • Screen turns black after connecting TV via DVI adaptor  and HDMI cable

I've just got the brand new MacBook Pro from the Apple Store. It is sensational.
    But one thing doesn't work!
I used my old "*DVI - HDMI cable*" and the new "*Mini DisplayPort - DVI adaptor*" to connect my new MacBook with my SHARP Aquos LCD TV. But the screen of the MacBook just turned black and nothing else happened, even if I removed the plugs. The only thing I was able to do was a reboot.
The HDMI cable worked very well until today with my old PowerBook G4 (I just didn't need the adaptor).
Do I need another adaptor? What is wrong? Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Did you ever resolve this problem? I want to hook up my MBP to my Aquos TV and wondered what cable to get.

  • No longer able to use single link mini DVI adaptor

I have a 27" iMac, model 11,1, and my second monitor is a 27" ViewSonic that was hooked up via the short-cable mini-DVI adaptor.  Not long ago I started having odd slow-down issues, almost system hangs, and as it turned out the cure was to unplug the monitor.  Odd, I know.
Anyway, I thought the adaptor might have gone wonky and the only spare we had lying about was a dual-link one, with the long cable and the USB plug added.  That worked fine, so I figured all was solved.
Well, we wanted to use the USB-enabled cable elsewhere, so I swapped the adaptor out for a brand-new single-link one.  No signal at all.  The Dispay Settings panel on the iMac detects the ViewSonic monitor perfectly, but that monitor won't display anything at all (except the "No Signal" message).  Then we tried the short cable on a different iMac, same model, and it works fine there. For now I seem to be stuck with the dual link cable.
For some reason my particular iMac does not like the single link DVI adaptor, and I'm baffled at why since there seem to be no other symptoms of problems.
Has anyone else ever encountered something like this, and have you any idea what the deal is?
    Many thanks in advance!

Their are some display adaptors you can get. I have an older Mac Pro with DVI but my monitor is a Thunderbolt Display. This used to be around $250. It is way cheaper now.

  • My brand new Xperia Z2 won't connect to the PC via USB cable.

My PC is running XP 64bit OS, my old Xperia U connects fine through the same USB cable and my Xperia Z2  recognizes flash drives connected to it via the supplied adaptor cable... Any ideas guys? does the phone perhaps not like my old version of windows?

Hi Jake, thanks for the response.I gave your suggestions a go and found that restarting the PC with the phone already connected via USB caused the phone to briefly flash up "connected to computer" in the notifications bar. This occured immediately on start-up of the PC, during motherboard Bios, and dissapeared as soon as windows began to boot up. Upon windows starting, no mention of the phone is found anywhere under "my computer", device manager or in the task bar... More on the issue...the very first time i connected the phone to the PC, the computer was already running. The phone immediately asked me if i wanted to install PC Companion 2.1. Following the installation, the connection just went and hasn't come back since. I have noticed that PC Companion will not start on my PC. I've tried re-installing it several times from Sony website but when i try to run it I just get an hourglass for 5-10 seconds, then nothing. checking back through the system requirements for Pc Companion I've noticed that it asks for every OS except mine (XP 64bit)... could this be the problem with the software not running and perhaps the phone not being recognised?

  • 17" MacBook Pro to 30" HD Display issue using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adaptor.

Just replaced the Western Digital hard drive on my MacBook Pro with a SSD now running Lion 10.8.2, (updating from Snow Leopard latest version).
I have a 30" HD Apple display monitor and very much love using it.
    The issue.
The MacBook Pro will only allow the 30" Monitor to display its top resolution when the unit is closed, when it is open it shows either 2 screens or mirrored screens depending upon the settings, but not at the top resolution capable by the monitor.
Now, when I was using Snow Leopard on the previos hard drive, I could close the MacBook Pro and put the computer to sleep also putting the 30" Monitor to sleep, I could then wake the computer while it was closed with my external keyboard and the screen would wake showing the FULL resolution possible on the 30" Monitor.
Then I could open the lid of the MacBook Pro and the screen would stay black allowing ONLY the 30" HD Monitor to be used effectively as a desktop computer, without the complication or need to display 2 screens or mirrored screens but most importantly the fans wouldn't need to work overtime due to the MacBook Pro being closed cutting off vital ventilation through the 2 air ducts to the left and right of the keyboard.
For some reason I cannot do this with Mountain Lion, the compluter needs to be closed in order for the 30" Monitor to display top resolution, and the fans are working overtime and the unit is getting really hot.
My concern is that the MacBook Pro will overheat, the screen will be damaged as the MacBook does get exceptionally hot when running design and audio packages, even Adobe Flash sets the fans off, and lastly the computers speakers are muffled which is more of a moo point.
If anyone could shed some light or offer a solution I would be most appreciative.
    My specs:
MacBook Pro 17" Mid 2009 3.06 Intel Core Duo, 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB, OS X 10.8.2 - connecting to an Apple 30" HD monitor with a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adaptor.
    Thanks

Thanks for your quick reply! I want to think I'm not technically challenged, but... are you saying to go from minidisplay on macbook directly to the firewire in the back of the monitor? Or should I try to attach it to that ugly bunch of cables at the end of the monitor cable (dvi, usb, firewire and the power adapter thingy)? Either way, it seems like I might need yet another cable? Like Mini-display to... ?
I feel like my mother asking these questions... At any rate, when I called the guy at apple support last time he acted like it was a Miracle that I had anything on my cinema display at all if I had a minidisplay cable plugged into the thunderbolt port. He said that didn't work (but obviously it did, at least a little) I DID get a picture, it just wouldn't display at the 2560x1600 resolution. More like 1680xsomething. fuzzy and big. I want my pretty picture back.
Thanks so much for your help.

  • "miniDVI-DVI adaptor" + "DVI to VGA cable" can't detect LCD TV

    Hi,
I just bought a "miniDVI-to-DVI" adapter, and then a DVI-to-VGA male-to-male cable to connect my MacBook to Viewsonic 19" monitor but my MacBook didn't detect the 19" monitor. (This 19" monitor has only VGA but no DVI input!)I tried it on my friend's 32" LCD TV but it couldn't work too.
Then I tried to connect my MacBook by using "miniDVI-DVI" adaptor + "DVI-DVI male to male" cable to DVI socket of my frind's 32" LCD TV. It worked! So I think it's not the problem of the "miniDVI-DVI" adaptor.
I worried that it's the problem of the "DVI-to-VGA" cable so I went to the shop to exchange another new "DVI-to-VGA" cable. But my MacBook still couldn't detect all these 2 monitors via VGA socket.
Can anybody help me? Please advise! Thanks!

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
The shopman told me that "miniDVI-VGA" adaptor was out of stock, only "miniDVI-DVI" adaptor was available yesterday. At that time I thought I had to buy a connecting cable also (no matter it's VGA-VGA or DVI-VGA cable).
Since my friend has a DVI-DVI cable, if I buy this "miniDVI-to-DVI" adapter I may share my MacBook with his 32" TV too. So I bought these adaptor & cable.
