Second Playhead monitor looks cropped out.

Please take a look at the screenshot.
Notice how the monitor on the right displays it's full frame fine, whereas the second monitor (Playhead 2) seems cropped.
This is not the matter of the monitor skewed to the left. Left monitor is displaying the left edge of the frame. I'm assuming this is some kind of a bug.
Anyone has the same problem & knows the solution to this?
I'm using Retina MBP.

Hey Kunnom,
thanks fo the report. workaround for now is to activate 'prefer vertical'.
cheers,

I think this will help if you are using version 11 or 12.
Make a selection with a selection tool of the area you want to remove.
Example: rectangular marquee tool - make a rectangle.
    Use Select>Refine Edge:
Use the View section of this dialog box to see a few views.
If you need to refine the edge of the selection (smooth, feather, shift, etc.) you can do that in this dialog box.
You may want to check the box about remembering your settings in case you need to come back to them.
In the Output section, you can pick New Layer with Layer Mask and click OK.
You should see the hole in your image.

  • Monitor looks like a negative

My monitor looks like a negative. My text is white and the background is black. I looked through the system preferences to convert it back and can't seem to figure it out. I also looked through this website and couldn't find in any information. Can someone point me in the right direction.
    Thank You!

    laprete,
    You're Welcome!
When you opened Universal System Preferences, you may have noticed the key combination that I posted, was displayed under Switch to White on Black, in key symbols.
This KB Article Symbols for special keys, shows you what symbols correspond to which keys.
You will see these symbols used in various other places as well. In the Finder contextual menus, for example. Keyboard Shortcuts.

  • Monitor looks red

monitor looks all red, I tried another monitor before and that one looked yellow, do i have a problem with my videocard? I went to system preferences and tried all; also I tried the PRAM RESET but didn't work? the monitors seems to work fine in a mini mac that I have. I just recently installed the OSX tiger on it.

    Hi jaymarctx-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards
It could be the card. Are you absolutely sure that there is nothing wrong with the cable?
You may want to try opening up the Mac, pull the video card out and then pressing it back in again to "reseat" it. While inside if there is any dust built up on the card or other parts you may want to clear that at the same time.

  • Monitor has weird, pixelated colors, but external monitor looks fine

I have a MacBook Pro. It is a couple of years old. Recently the monitor started fritzing out. At first it would happen only happen when I ran windows through boot camp. A couple of days later, it began happening in os x too.The screen seems to be operating on a reduced amount of colors, a preponderance of green and everything is pixelated. There are blobby shaped circles of rainbow all over the desktop. Windows on top of the desktop look better, but still way too green and pixelated. All parts of the screen are equally bad. I tried changing all the settings in display. Also ran disc utility. The display on the external monitor looks fine. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Some MBP have bad nVidea graphics chips that can do wheat you describe, except it usually affects an external monitor as well. It's covered by a warranty extension program here:

  • Monitor looks posterized

So my cat sat on my keyboard and he did something wierd, and I cant figure out how to undo it. My entire monitor looks like it is in negatve, or posterized- I dont even know what to call it. Everything, from the background image to the buttons, to every program opened, is not the color it should be. And when I go into appearance, it won't change anything. Or anything else I have tried.
For example, this screen looks black with white writing and dark green tabs.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Jellolady,
From your user profile, I see that you have a PowerBook. This section of the forums is for PowerMacs. It's best to post in the right section just in case your issue is a special PowerBook issue.
I can fix this one for you, though. In system preferences, go into Universal Access. In there, you can toggle Black on White/White on Black to get back your appropriate settings.
You cat went and sat on exactly the right key combination to operate a short cut that does exactly this - children are good at it too.
    Cheers!

  • Typeface in pdf looks washed out/light

When I convert a document to PDF the typeface looks washed out. Recently I was looking at a document on line and wanted to copy a paragraph. When I tried it a window came up saying that the page needed to be scanned/converted before i could copy from this document. I said "Ok". Ever since then, instead of the typeface being clear and solid, it's washed out and lighter looking. What happened, and how do I correct this problem?
    I have AA XI

    Hello,
Yes, the iMac's monitors are very good. They are among the best in the Apple LCD line.
But, Macs have a very distinctive difference in their video appearance. They will look less sharp when compared to a PC.
The difference is in how the Mac displays it's video. Basically, as I understand it, this is a visual perception based on the Mac's use of Anti-Aliased screens / fonts.
So, it does take some getting used to if you are new to Macs.
I've gotten accustomed to it. But, there is a noticeable difference in how the Mac displays video and how the PC displays it.
I have connected a number of PC monitors to my Macs, and the visual perception is the same as it is using a built-in Mac monitor. The PC monitor looks sharper and more defined on the PC than it does when connected to a Mac.
The difference is in the Mac OS and how it displays or renders it's screen and fonts. So, it's not the monitor.
Now, you can go into System Preferences (under the  menu) and then go into displays and tinker with the calibration settings and such.
Also in System Preferences is the "Appearance" pane. You can go in there, and towards the bottom is the "Smoothing" option. You can adjust those options as well. Note that the smoothing options don't take effect until after you restart.
So, there's a couple of places you can tinker to try and tailor it to look closer to your preferences.
    I hope this helps.

  • Second LCD monitor issue with my G5

Ok so I have a used G5 1.6GHz single Powermac.
When I purchased my G5 it didn't have a system installed on it. So I loaded 10.4 onto it and swapped everything from my G4 to the G5 using the G4 as an external Firewire drive. have 2gb of memory inside and it is the correct memory and they have been tested just fine.
Now the second LCD screen I have was working just fine when I had it hooked up to the G4. I have updated my firmware in the G5 to the most current setting. I have reset the PRAM and now I am attempting to figure out if I might have a bad Video card or if my monitor is not working correctly.
I have a Samsung 204B monitor. The issues I have is it blinks off and on when I move things around on the monitor. Sometimes when I open a new window on Safari the screen goes blank. Other times when Im using Photoshop CS2 it will go blank when certain shots come up. It doesn't do it all the time so now I have to figure where to start to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thanks,
    Ross

I am having what sounds like the exact same problem. I have an Apple Cinema display for my main monitor and a ViewSonic 17 inch LCD for my second monitor.
As with photoguy1010, my second monitor frequently blanks out for up to 2 seconds when I click on something that is ont hat screen or try to move a window. But it is not consistent, sometimes it happens frequently, sometimes less often.
I am sure it is not the monitor because the problem happens with a Samsung 17" LCD monitor also and both the ViewSonic and the Samsung work perfectly with my powerbook. I have several times used the same cable with my powerbook and had no problems.
So it seems to me the problem must be in the G5. Is there anything other than the video card that might cause this?

  • Cropping out someone's face from picture and overlaying just the face into a video

    Hi.
I posted a couple times here about using AE to do the following for a video. Though I changed up the idea a little. Here it goes:
Imagine this video. A youth hockey game and the kids are lined up on the bench and the announcer calls their names and one by one they skate out from the game and onto the ice.
During this intro, I have added their names in scrolling text as they come out onto the ice. I used windows live movie maker and saved it as a video.
Then I put that video into After Effects so that I could then put a pic of each kid's face next to their name. I used the team photo and cropped out each player's face to use for this. I used the GIMP program to do the cropping.
However, I cropped them out in a rectangular shape. So when their name scrolls across the video at the bottom of the screen, their face then shows up beside their name but in rectangular form. In the background of the kid's face is whatever was there in the team photo. So basically it's their teammate's or coach's pants or jersey.
To make this all look better, I want JUST the kid's head and shoulders as the image beside their name. Not a rectangular pic with stuff in the background. So the shape of the image is essentially just their head and shoulders. The shape of the pic in any picture program will always be rectangular but what I want is a transparent background so that when I overlay the kid's face onto the video beside their name, all we see is their head and shoulders.
With GIMP, I can use the select tool and trace around their head and shoulders and "crop to image" and hopefully that makes the background transparent. But what I need to know is if I can then overlay it onto the video in AE and get the result that I'm looking for.
Can someone tell me if they have any experience with this? Overlaying any image onto a video in AE is easy, but doing it the way I want to is not clear to me.
    Thanks for the responses.

You can either use masks in AE to cut the kids out or, if you save out of Gimp in a format that supports alpha, you can just import the already cut-out picture. Also, as I mentioned in a previous thread to you, if you have the heads cut out and saved in a format that supports alpha, you could drop the heads in with Premiere too.
You really need to start here: Getting started with After Effects After Effects is many leagues more complicated than something like Windows Movie Maker. You will land in even more frustrations if you skip a foundation.

  • Why do my images look washed out...

Why do my images look washed out after I have worked in Photoshop CS6 and saved them in Finder? I have been a Photoshop user for a while now and have never experienced this problem. It started 2 months ago and no one can seem to tell me why or how to fix it. I am a professional photographer and I have clients waiting on their images but I can't send them looking as horrible as they do. My workflow is: drag and drop an image from iPhoto or Finder to Photoshop. I change things like levels, contrast, image size and use the healing too. Then I save to Finder so I can upload to dropbox or to website or burn to a DVD. Now when I save the image the thumbnail looks washed out, without color and looks horrible!!! I don't know if my photo files are corrupted or ? If I open the image in Photoshop or Bridge it looks fine. I would be grateful for any suggestions or explanation. Things were working just fine, but not now.

Examining the image direct from the camera of the child on the beach, using http://regex.info/exif.cgi  there is a small embedded thumbnail (with black bars top-and-bottom to letterbox it to the LCD aspect ratio), and a small preview probably used for zooming in on the camera LCD screen, and the fullsize jpg image all contained in the one JPG file.  All three of these seem to have identical histograms other than the black-bars causing a dark peak on the thumbnail image, but otherwise the shapes of the histograms and the position of the peaks from light to dark are the same.
In other words the full-size JPG and the embedded preview and thumbnail all seem the same other than size so the darkened version seen in Finder is not coming from the camera.  The one issue the above website reports is that the camera JPG has a color-profile tag (name of the profile) but does not actually contain the color profile, itself.  All other versions of the image have an actual embedded profile not just the name in a tag.  It is possible that this is confusing Finder into assuming a different profile or gamma curve for the image that sRGB warrants, but most all camera images have this issue so I wouldn't expect a Mac to show images from all cameras as too dark.
It is a mystery to me why the Finder preview looks darker, but at least in the one side-by-side provided, it does, and is different-looking than all other representations of the image from what I can see.
At the beginning of this thread you said you were worried the photos coming out of Photoshop were washed out and had bad colors.  From my perspective, what comes out of Photoshop looks the same as what comes out of the camera, so only Finder has it wrong.  Are you seeing the darker image anywhere else besides Finder (and perhaps iPhoto which we don't have a screenshot of)?
Most importantly does the image you see on screen in Photoshop, while you're making adjustments, look dark like the pre-PS Finder thumbnail or does it look lighter, like the post-PS Finder thumbnail and all the images on DropBox?
If more than just the pre-PS Finder thumbnail is darker then you may have a monitor calibration issue that needs to be addressed, otherwise just ignore the pre-PS Finder thumbnail when evaluating if the image needs any adjustments and assume they are all ligher than the Finder image.
BTW, I tested for a sRGB vs AdobeRGB mismatch, and if an sRGB image is assigned an Adobe profile then the colors become more intense but the whole image does not become darker so that can't explain what is happening.

  • [GeForce 6] McFly Method ! Two monitors AND TV out

    Hi
I used my system for a lot of video editing - which means i need screen space AND TV out to a seperate TV monitor...
I was using a Matrox Parhelia which is triple head - this worked fine until I upgraded my system - and then my editing software (AVID XPress Pro) failed to work at all...  so I needed to switch to an nVidia card.
I now have an MSI NX6600GT - which works fine - but being only "Dual Head" will ALWAYS play video out to one monitor and leave me with my Editing APP in the other window...  Is there any way to turn of the FULL SCREEN video on my second monitor?  I would rather have the option of playing out video full screen, than be forced to have it.
I am also considering the "McFly" method of using one AGP card - displaying on one MAIN monitor and TV out via S-Video permanantly on my AGP card, and installing a second PCI VGA card to handle the second monitor - so I can have Video overlay running out to a TV monitor and two VGA monitors running in "Dual View" or "mirrored" mode rather than "Clone" or "Stretch".  Does anyone have any recommendations about the PCI card to use - it doen't have to be particualarly special - just able to run a second VGA monitor without any problems or conflicts...
Thanks in advance for any help
    Tim

For the video being fullscreen on the second monitor,
Go into the GeForce6600Gt Properties page
    click on 'full screen video'
in Full Screen device select 'disable'
(using the 71.89 Drivers, this options may not be in earlier versions)

  • Program Monitor looks like it changed ratio

I started in 1920x1080, but after editing videos and saving a few times I looked up and the program monitor looks something like 1920x800!  Any suggestions? I made no changes and cannot seem to find a way to display 1920x1080 again.  Thank you all for the help.

My monitor looks 90 degrees to the right.
    How can I fix this?

Sorry, but could you extend your description with some more details like which monitor of which machine and which operating system. Perhaps it would be useful when you post the graphics card manufacturer and what you did because your description definetively tells nothing really about your problem.
    Please more details. OK?

  • Photos looked washed out when played through a TV....

I have a new G5 iPod and a 60gig Photo. When plug then into the same TV with the same cable (s-video and audio) the pictures from the G5 look washed out. The iPod Photo colours look "brilliant" and are all but identical to the original digital pictures and when shown on my iMac 20" screen.
Is this because of the video aspects of the G5 and the "corners" cut to get the unit size down (hence no fire wire).
Please advise, I feel like returning this and sticking to the Photo.
    Thank in advance.

    Got a refund today
Will wait for better resolution iPod to be released. The Photo still rox

  • H515 Desktop Monitor Power cuts out

Help Please. I have an H515 desktop. After a period of inactivity the power will go off to my monitor. The CPU is still on but I can't get the monitor on. All my power settings are set to never turn off the display. I am running Windows 8.1. I've tried multiple monitors and I've changed out the monitor cables. No luck
    Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Have you tried booting the computer into Windows Safe Mode to see if the inactivity causes the monitor to black out ?  I'm not sure if Safe Mode will totally by-pass Windows Power Management, but it is worth a try.  If the monitor stays on then I would suspect a power setting or driver problem with Windows.  The link below is for a little tutorial on booting Windows 8.1 into Safe Mode if needed.  Step #2 is probably the easiest.
    http://www.7tutorials.com/5-ways-boot-safe-mode-windows-8-windows-81
Have you tried booting into the BIOS Setup and see if inactivity blacks out the monitor ?  You can boot into the BIOS Setup on your model by shutting the computer completely off then press and hold the F1 key when powering it back on.  When you see the BIOS screen then release the F1 key.  This would be the true test to see if your black out problem is a hardware issue since the operating system isn't loaded.
