Secondary axis in Numbers

Hello, I need to add a secondary axis to a graphic. Do you know how can I do it in Numbers?

Hi Mariano,
Numbers 3.1
There is a 2-axis chart in the chart chooser.
A good place for ideas is Template Chooser > Basic > Charting Basics and open the 2-Axis Chart tab.
Click around and Format Panel will show how things were done.

Ian.

can I use a secondary axis in numbers?

Only in a combined bar and line chart, so far as I can tell.
These category charts may have a shared category axis (x) and two value (y) axes.
This is the choice at the bottom of the Chart button's menu.

  • How do I change the mouse-over value format on the secondary axis?

Can anyone tell me how I can change the number format for the mouse-over values on the secondary axis of a combination chart?  Right now they take on the format of the primary axis values.  In my case, I need the primary to reflect a general number with three decimals, and the secondary to reflect currency.
    Many thanks,
    Devin

Agreed. The option I've used before is to name the axes "Revenue ($)" and "Gross Margin (%)" (or whatever) and that makes the numbers a little more readable.

  • How do I initialize a secondary axis with report generation vi's

I have two cloumns of data. one is around the range of 10 and the
other one is in 100 range. I want to display these two columns in the
same graph. Can i use the secondary axis for my second column. Is it
possible using repport generation VI's. The other question is can I
specify which coloumn I want to use on x-axis and y-axis.

    Hello Mudda,
It looks like you are trying to view two groups of data in the same
graph, and then send that graph to a report.
If your two columns of data are in separate arrays, you can use the
Build Array function to combine those arrays into a two-dimensional
array (see Graph Waveform Arrays.vi example, which can be found
    under Help >> Find Examples).
A two-dimensional array can be wired directly into a graph. The two
arrays will show up on the graph as different plots (in different
colors), both on the y-axis. The data in the 10 range will show up
lower than the data in the 100 range.
If you want to plot your two data columns against each other on
different axis, wire a two-dimensional array into an XY Graph (see
XY Graph.vi example, which can be
    found under Help >> Find
    Examples).
To view a graph in a report using a report generation VI, use the
append front panel image to report VI. The LabVIEW Report
Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office will provide more report
functionality for adding graphs to Word and Excel, if you do not
    already have it.
If these suggestions are not exactly what you are looking for, please
post more information so I can better assist you; or, ideally, attach
this portion of your application to examine. Have a great day!

  • Secondary Axis Disappears in Pivot Table Chart

I'm using Excel 2010 and have a pivot chart based off of a PowerPivot table with multiple slicers. The X or secondary axis disappears randomly and the only way to get it to reappear is to go back into the chart property and re-assign the value to the secondary
    axis.

I had the same problem. It happens when filtered results doesn't contain values for series i used in the secondary axes. When i toggle off filters and turn back to all results the pivot chart "forget" the secondary axis setting....
    Anyone have find a solution?

  • How to add a secondary axis on a excel graph with labwindowsCVI?

    Hello,
I am currently working on LabWindowsCVI and I treat my data in excel files. I use ExcelReport and Excel2000 instruments to build my data tables and my graph. To trace, I use this function:
    ExcelRpt_ChartWizard (chartsheetHandle, ExcelWorksheetHandle, "A1: C619" ExRConst_XYScatterSmoothNoMarkers 0, ExRConst_Columns, 1, 1, 1, "Consumption mobile plateform", "TIME (sec)", "Current / Voltage (in V & A in)" , NULL);
In this configuration, column A is X axis and B & C (Y axis) my respective data voltage & current.
My graph are traced correctly, but I find a problem, 2 curves are on the main axis and I want to trace one on the main axis and the other on the secondary axis. I can't to display a secondary axis.
Does this action is it possible with a LabwindowsCVI function and if so, can you tell me that function?
    Thank you in advance,
    Nicolas

    Hi! nlepouliquen,
First of all, I believe you have two curves successfully plotted on the chart as you mentioned.  Excel asigns these two curves as data series 1 and 2 internally.  Assume you want to change series 2 to be plotted against the sencond Y-axis.  You can use the following two functions, defined in excel2000.c, to do it.
    // select series 2 data
    Excel_ChartSeriesCollection (chartsheetHandle, NULL, CA_VariantInt(2), &seriesTwoHandle);
// create the second Y-axis and plot series 2 data against it
    Excel_SetProperty (seriesTwoHandle, NULL, Excel_SeriesAxisGroup, CAVT_LONG, ExcelConst_xlSecondary);

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jessica,
It is possible to do  Pareto Diagram with combination chart.Do like this take one measure on Primary Axis and select second measure and enable the secondary axis and map the values.

I´m using for the first time the functionality of the graphics is SAP.
I want to plott one data serie on a secondary axis by ABAP code but I´m having some difficulty.

  • Need to remove secondary Y axis scale numbers from Combination chart in Dashboard 4.0

    Hello all,
I am using Dashboard 4.0 and combination chart. Earlier in combination chart, we had secondary Y axis and scale numbers on secondary Y axis. When I remove secondary Y axis and scale numbers, 0(min scale) and 1 (max scale) are not going off, they are still in the chart. How to remove them.
    Thanks,
    Renu

    Hi Renu,
Instead of selecting data by Series, select the data by Range and map the data accordingly. Please follow the screen short for your reference.

  • How to plot dates on X-axis in Numbers?

    Hey all, need help!
Have a two-column data layout, with dates in first column and values in second.  For example,
    April 12, 2009 465
    July 16, 2009 329
    Sep 2, 2009 528
    Nov 21, 2009 503
I'd like to plot this as a scatter plot and see dates on the x-axis (a la Excel).  Alas, all it shows are numeric equivalents on the x axis, in very large numbers.
What's the trick or solution to this?
(I have spent a good half hour rummaging the boards here and Googling to no avail.  I did discover the DUR2DAYS trick for doing a related graph in the spreadsheet... perhaps there's a formatting trick here, too.)

    BUMP!
    Anyone?

  • Weird behaviour of chart axis in Numbers

on the x-axis i entered three values: 12, 13, 16. But they end up being evenly spaced along the axis (I want there to be more space between 13&16 than 12&13).
This seems absolutely illogical to me. Anyone has a fix? thx.

This discussion is really useful. I was having the same problem with dates on the x-axis. The date values in my column of data are not equally spaced but they were on the chart when using a line chart. Now I am using a scatter chart things look better.
However is it possible to join the dots in a scatter chart? For some data this makes no sense but the values on my x-axis are in order and so joining the dots here would. I really need a line chart that does not regard the x-axis as categories.
Dare I say that I can do this in Excel!! In fact I converted an Excel spreadsheet to Numbers only to find the chart was displayed differently.

  • Interval in y axis displays numbers off with respect to x axis

I am working on chart SQL 2008 R2. In my x-axis, I have three payers and in y axis I have Amount paid by each payer. If I define interval in y axis then x axis graph is not showing correct values. If I remove the interval in Y axis then my x-axis graph is
correct but y axis numbers are wrong(see graph1).
Please see Graph2 where I have correct interval. Payer 1 has paid 29,000,000 and payer2 has paid 3,843,537 and payer3 has paid 270,000,000. I have set the interval min - auto. max - max ( of data value) and interval - 10,000,000 on y axis.
x-axis is category. Please help me with this. Is there any property I need to set. Thanks for your help.
    Graph1

    Hi Rachel_P,
According to the pictures, the Y-Axis shows incorrect values when you don’t specify the interval value. While when you specify the interval value, the columns in the chart doesn’t show correctly. Based on my research, I think this issue can be caused by
incorrect data type of the Amount field. When we add a string type field to the Values pane, it uses [Count(Amount)] as the values. Then the Y-Axis displays the number of amount values for each payer.
To fix this issue, we can add a calculated field with integer type amount values in the dataset, then display the new field in the Y-Axis. For more details, please see the following steps:
Right-click the DataSet of the chart to add a calculated field as below:
Field Name: Num                   Field Source: =CInt(Fields!Amount.Value)
Insert Num field to replace the Amount field in the Values pane.
The following screenshot is for your reference:
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.

  • How to change the side of the y axis in numbers ?

I am trying to make a negative only chart (all the x values are negative), thus the y axis has to be on the right, yet it is displayed on the left ! I really need some help please. Thank you !

    Hi Rupert,
    Here's an alternate method.
Ian's suggestionis the only one I know using a scatter chart, but Numbers also offers a '2-axis' Category chart. It's the last one on the menu in the Charts button, requires two series of Y values, and defauts to a line chart for the first series and a column chart (vertical bar chart) for the second Y series.
The two (Y) axes may have different scales, and may be formatted separately. Here's an example. Instructions below.
The data columns are column B (X values) and column D (Y values).
Because this is a Category chart, the X values must be listed in a header row, where they will be recognized as 'category labels' . As 'categories', they will be evenly spaced along the x axis, and wil be ordered left to right in the order they appear (top to bottom) in column A of the table.
2-Axis charts require a table with two columns of Y data. To provide the second 'data' set, I've added column C, and filled it with zeroes.
To create the chart, select columns C and D, then click the Charts button and select the Two-Axis chart.
With ther chart selected, open the Chart Inspector.
    Choose Axis.
Uncheck "Show Values" using the pop-up menu for Value Axis (Y1)
Check "Show Axis" using the pop-up menu for Value Axis (Y2)
Set min and max values and steps to values that will give you integer labels for the Y value grid lines.
    Choose Series.
Click on the colour block (on the table) for the dummy series (Y1).
Set Data Symbol to 'none'. Use the Line thickness control in the format bar to set the line thickness to 0.25 pt and the colour to black.
Click on the colour block for the 'real' series. Set the data symbol and size, and the line thickness as desired.

  • Secondary Axis

    Hi,
Is there a way to format 2 series of data in a graph with 2 different scales ?
I have 2 series of data relating to the same x-axis (year) but the first series contain values in the 1000s while the second series contain values in the 10s. The result under Numbers is a graph that appears to have only one series, since one set of values is "dwarfed" by the other...
This is a pretty basic requirement... Right now I managed to achieve the same result by creating a second graph and superimpose it on the first, but this is really not convenient at all.
    cheers

I agree on this one. I first used Numbers today for some preso's I needed spreadsheet and charting for and was very disappointed to find this missing. Also found another interesting thing where when you copy a chart (Apple+C) it doesn't include the legend !!!!
I like many others was looking at Numbers with a lot of hope to finally pull away from Excel but a number of these little 'features' are making it harder

    JP,
A couple of things to get ready for a 2-axis Category Chart...
Make sure that Column A is a Header Column and that Row 1 is a Header Row.
Delete any unnecessary (empty) rows and columns.
Select all three columns and Insert > Chart > 2D 2-Axis
    Set your chart formatting options.
