Secondary Site Servers

Question

We have 3 smaller regional locations and 1 regional location that is larger that are all forests roots with child domains under them and all have their own SCCM environments. We will be collapsing the 3 smaller forest’s workstations and users into larger
forest and onto the larger forest’s SCCM 2012 environment.  My question has to do with secondary site servers. From what I read, a secondary site server is used mainly to manage network bandwidth between the remote site and the SCCM Site
Server. We have 100MB Metro E connections to these sites. The sites have 1900, 1700, and 900 clients respectively. We do not have an issue with building the secondaries, I am more curious on how much bandwidth would be affected by not having one there and
just putting a distribution point at them. I do remember reading that 500 clients is the recommended amount for a SSS.

I am not sure about the question of bandwidth, but given the numbers of clients and the connection info you provided, I would consider doing just DPs at the remote regional sites.
