Secondary viewer and book layout

Maybe I am missing something?
If I want to lay out and design a book etc...how can I get the browser on one screen and the layout panel on the other?
Seems like a huge waste of real estate...
Any assistance appreciated.
PS I am still sad that I cant change the background color of the secondary viewer from black!

Did you look in the View menu for Main Viewer and Secondary viewer?
Nothing...just blank, wasted space....
This is the reason for my post.
I also have a post about the inability to adjust the background tone/color of the secondary viewer.
Again...a major blunder. particularly with black HUDS on black background...DOH!

  • Source tables for Query views and book marks

    Hi Gurus,
We are planning to recreate Query views based on a perticular query from ODS to cube.
    1. Is there a table that can provide me all the query views created on the portal, Created by(User Name), description based on the query name.
Basically i am looking for the following:
    INPUT: Query Name
    OUTPUT:
List of all the query views created on that query
The user name or id who created the query view
    Description of the query view
    2. I tried in meta data repository but it only gives me query views create in older version of the portal and not 7.0.
    Appreciate your immediate assistance.
    Thanks,
    Ravi Ananthuni

    Hi Ravi,
You can get the views created on the query and the ods too. But not through table...
This may not the right process but you can find what you want.
Open WAD --> add any web item into the template --> On the left pane --> Generic --> Data Provider --> Query/View --> Click on the View icon present there.....
A popup window opens --> Click on Infoareas --> Goto your Info provider present there --> Expand it, you will find the query created on the info provider and the Views created on that query.
    Hope this helps u...
    Regards,
    KK.

  • Toolbar on Secondary Viewer?

I'm using Aperture with my MacBook Pro and a second display. I have designated the external monitor as the secondary viewer and have Aperture secondary viewer control set to Alternate. This works great for viewing the selected image large but cropping and other quick adjustments requires a trip to the MacBook Pro screen to select cropping from the tool bar or that I have the Image Adjustment HUD open all the time which still requires that I go to the drop down and select crop. Is it possible to place the standard toolbar on the secondary viewer?
    Thanks!

Perfect. I'd not seen that anywhere in the interface... but I do see it in the manual... thanks!!
Since you brought up keyboard shortcuts, here's a follow up regarding keyboard layouts and Aperture. I use the Dvorak keyboard layout... sometimes I have to resort to the Querty key placement to use Aperture shortcuts, other times not. So, for example, to jump to full screen I can hit the Dvorak f and it works fine. However, to crop using the c key the Dvorak c does not work... to use that shortcut I have to resort to the Querty c key. Any clues?

  • Book pages view and interface customization.

    Hi, everyone.
Adobe's Lightroom 4 has a nice and useful feature in its book module that allows all book pages to be displayed in one large and central pane.
In Aperture while creating a book I have a 'Pages' panel on the left side of the screen and a large panel where individual (or paired) book pages are displayed, I can't seem to find a way to view all book pages in a large browser-style panel as is possible with Lightroom.
Is there a way to do this in Aperture ? Can I have a large browser panel opened and view all page books together ?
    Thank you in advance.

Can I have a large browser panel opened and view all page books together ?
    No, afaik, sorry.
You can try to make more space fore the "Pages" pane by hiding the Inspector pane, and by rotating the browser and create a layout like this:

    You purchased an ibook?
Can I print my books and PDFs from iBooks?
Yes, you can print PDFs and notes you've entered from iBooks, but the option to print ePub books is not available.2You can also email PDFs and notes you have written from iBooks."

  • Trouble with viewing font on spine of Photo book.  I can't find a way to view and edit the text which appears on the spine of the dustcover or the book itself when printed.

I can't find a way to view and edit the text which appears on the spine of the dustcover or the photo book itself.  When I preview the book it appears on the dustcover and the book, but not when I'm back in the creation or editing windows.  I've printed 4 books in a series and two spines are one font size, and two others are a different font size.  One of the books has a shortened title on the book spine.

The text on the spine will be the same text that is in the Title text box on the title page.  You can change the font and style of that text just like you change any text in Aperture. Aperture will size and center the spine text for you
If you want the content or the font and style  of the text to be different from your Title box text then you have to trick the program a bit.  Put the text that you want in the spine into the Title text box and then move that box to a place on the page where it will not be visible when printed ( Y coordinate -1.0 inches for example).  Don't move it too far away or it will be hard to get back to in order to make an edit.    Then make a new text box on the title page and put the text you want on the cover in that.  (Or make a book without text on the cover , but with text on the spine).
You are 100% correct in that you can not preview this unless you preview the printed book

Command (right) - click on the photo and select Fit to Frame in the contextual menu:
Not all frames in a theme offer that feature but most do.  The spread layout doesn't.

  • Switch Mainviewer and secondary viewer

    Hi,
I wonder if it is possible to switch the main and secondary viewer other then using the monitor controlpanel (I only want to switch it for Ap)
    thanks!

That still doesn't seem to do what I want - even
after that the navigation strip is located on the
primary display, not the secondary. That's really
all I want, to be able to keep the navigation strip
on the secondary display while keeping the menu bar
    on primary.
    Thanks for examining that though.
    Kendall,
I think I accidently stumbled across a way to do what you want. I duplicated this several times to make sure I could do it again and to get the steps right. Here goes:
VERY IMPORTANT: Choose your project with all the photos you wish to work on, before you go to full screen. Otherwise you have to go through all the steps again, to get to other photos. Maybe create a new Album with all the photos you will be working on. (Unless you know of a way to change Projects in the Film Strip). Also, if you select your entire Library, you can filter what you want in the Film Strip.
Also, make Expose active with a HOT CORNER (F-keys won't work) "All Windows". You will need this to get to System Preferences and other App's. Later on.
    Now.....
    1. Open Aperture (Aptr)
    2. In Aptr, make sure that the Secondary Monitor (SM) is set to desktop: View-Secondary Viewer-Desktop.
    3. Open System Preferences (SP) and select Displays-Arrangement and move the Menu Bar to the SM.
    4. Drag Aptr to your SM. This is only to get it out of the way of your Primary Monitor (PM).
    5. In Aptr, select View-Secondary Viewer-Alternate.
    6. Expand Aptr to Full Screen and make sure to go to the top of the photo and Toggle-Always Show Toolbar "ON", (3rd from the right).
    7. On the Film Strip go to the Display dropdown and Select: 'On' and 'Avoid'.
    8. With Expose, bring up SP (you should still have Displays open) and drag the Menu Bar back to your PM. The Film Strip moves to where you don't want it, but look where the Toolbar is (Secondary Monitor).
    9. Grab the Film Strip and try to move it. As soon as you do, it will jump back to the SM. I think it wants to be on the same page as the Toolbar??
There you have it. Photo on PM without Film Strip and the Film Strip on SM. The Film Strip can also move and re-size as before.
However (don't you hate that?), there are things that work and don't work.
    WORK:
Everything in Toolbar and Film Strip. Including everything in the HUD. In the Film Strip under the Display icon, you can choose 'Three Up', 'Compare' and 'Stack' ('Multi' and 'Primary' will just give you the same photo). As well as 'Mirror', 'Alternate', 'Span' and 'Blank'. CAUTION: Do Not choose 'Desktop', you will have to start all over again!!
    DON'T WORK:
You can't get to the Aperture Menu Bar. It won't show! The Menu Bar only shows when you Expose other programs, but not Apertures. So you won't have access to things like 'Open With External Editor', 'Proofing Profile' and other items that are only accessible in the Menu Bar.
The Dock will not show either unless......you guessed it, Expose other programs (the Apple-Tab keys won't work either).
So there is the Good and the Bad. A work around, but a little "Handicapped" (not PC?) How about "Applicationly Challanged"?

  • Diff Between Saved Query Views and Work Books

    Hi..
Can some one explain me the diff betwen Saved Query views and Workbooks interms of their use, and operation..
    thanks..
    kishore

    hi kishore,
We use workbooks for excel formating, like font changes, lay out changes etc...
Workbooks into which queries are inserted are no different in appearance than other Excel workbooks.
They can be saved as files, copied, sent and (using Excel functions) edited however you like and even supplemented with other data.
Views are primarily used for BW Web Reports, it is similar to the concept of workbooks is for BEx.A local view can be accessed only within a workbook in which it was saved, where as a global view can be accessed globally in the system, it is not attached to a workbook. Only Global view can be used in BW Web Templates.

  • Switching back to Book Layout Editor

As I'm arranging my pictures in my first Aperture book, there are a couple of photos that need a few simple adjustments. For the most part, this means lightening some of the darker, shadows, areas. I'm editing my book in "Split View" mode of course, within the Book Layout Editor mode. If I double-click on a picture thumbnail at the bottom and switch from the Library to Adjustments tab on the left-hand side I can make my simple changes. When I'm done, how do I "escape" the adjustments window? If I click back to the "Library" tab my book is already highlighted. If I double-click the book under the lists of projects in the Library tab, it edits the name of the book but I don't return to the Book Layout Editor mode. My single picture I just made an adjustment on remains on the screen. If I click the "Split View" icon in the toolbar, I get back to the split view of all my pictures in the book but there's still no Book Editor Mode... What am I missing? I can get back to the book by selecting another project (or book) and the re-selecting the book I was just working on from my list of "Projects & Albums", but this seems really klunky. Depending on which project I choose, this takes a moment as well. How do I return to my book after making an adjustment on a picture?
    -Doug

Thanks for that. I thought I had clicked on every icon possible already. To get that icon back, though, I still have to switch from "single" image back to "split view" first. Is there a keyboard command for that besides cycling through the views?

  • How can I make some pages in a PDF display in single-page view and others in two-page (facing) view?

Exactly as it says on the tin. I am looking to save a PDF magazine/book layout in such a way so that when opened, only the front and back covers open to the viewer in single-page mode, and the rest of the pages in two-page facing mode, without re-printing the in-between pages in booklet format  and re-inserting them into a new PDF (with the front and back covers left separate and untouched, and included as single portrait-orientation pages). This is so that individual pages can still be printed (on a physical printer, not a "virtual" one like a PDF driver), as-is without having the page next to it included, or the printouts always requiring landscape orientation (resulting with two "pages" from the PDF showing up on one sheet of paper).
So when the PDF is opened, I want just the front and back cover to be auto-viewed by themselves, and the content (the "meat" of the document) viewed side-by-side, as though one were actually reading a "book" -- but without actually re-doing the content pages to be "fused" side-by-side. Thus creating the "illusion" that they are, in fact, in booklet form. Is this possible, to have different page-display settings for different pages/page ranges in a single PDF? If so, how is this done? If not, what would be my best course of action otherwise to achieve this "virtual" book layout, while still retaining the "physical" structure of the document and allowing individual pages to be printed by themselves rather than "fused" together?
Using Acrobat X Pro on Windows 7 Pro SP1.

The best you can do practicably is the 'two up with cover page' view mode. The first page will appear singly but not centered, and to get the last page to behave it would have to be a folio sheet.
It's theoretically possible to use JavaScript to reset the view mode as each page is changed, but it makes for a nightmare of usability (what if someone on a smaller display wants to use 'fit to width'? Not an option if JS keeps overruling it). Anything involving JS won't work on non-Adobe software or mobile devices.
Not a programmer by any means, so I won't be using JavaScript because I wouldn't know where to begin. I was thinking more in terms of an option I could adjust in the menus or dialogues.
