Seconday Display Now "Stretched"

Hello,
I run a new 15" Retina MacBook Pro, with two external LCD displays. One is via HDMI, and the other via Thunderbolt-to-VGA adaptor. They have been working great until today; for some reason the monitor connected to the Thunderbolt/VGA is stretched. I have tried all of the different settings, but nothing works. Is there something I may have accidentally done to cause this?
Thanks

UPDATE: For some strange reason, if I turn on this particular display on AFTER booting the MacBook, it doesn't happen.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus stalls displaying "Now Printing".

Hi, in the office i work in we have 2 HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 Series. One is networked to 3 PC's running WIndows 7 and the other is connected via wifi to a  PC also running Windows 7.
The problem is the printer that is networked often stalls displaying "now printing" on the printer screen. The only way to continue printing is to turn the computer off and then on again, wait for it to do its cleaning etc then press print again. This is usually ok for that print job but as soon as further print jobs are added it has to be reset and the whole cycle repeats endlesly throughout the day. Until recently the other printer that is connected via wifi was working fine but now that is also doing exactly the same thing described above.
Recently i searched the forums and have discovered this is a common problem with this type of printer.
I have done partial and full resets of both printers to no avail.
Bothe printers are currently using firmware version: LRP1FN1126AR , which i believe is the latest firmware.
Please can someebody explain how to make these printers work properly? Many thanks

ok, i have done the most research into this issue of all people, as i bought 3 of them for buisness.
the most common problem is the printer will only print for 20 or so mins after a reboot, then it goes to sleep,
if attempting print after this time, it will display "now printing" but nothing prints.
after hours to customer support, and a new printer delivered, plug in the expired/refilled genuine cartrige, same issue.
you can wake up the machine tempoarily by opening and closing the cartridge door.
i finally got the lady from HP to admit there is a page count on the chips, and instead of an error on screen, they do this to avoid law suits.she didnt admit to the last bit tho, lol.
i have 3 expired , refilled genuine chips now, all do the same all after around 5000 pages.
    cheeky buggers!!
someone with time and money, please sue them , im tired of bieng ripped off.

  • My macbook had a weird behavior on the display, now it won't go further than gray loading screen with the apple logo

My macbook had a weird behavior on the display, now it won't go further than gray loading screen with the apple logo. It's a macbook pro early 2011. I've read that those are having issues, if there's someone i can contact for further information, report the issue since it's getting common or any temporal solution available. Thanks

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Display is stretched out

I had my computer plugged into a projector earlier and when I've done this before the screen stretches out while plugged into the projector. However it won't go back to it's normal size now after being unplugged and I tried turning it off. Please help!

Go back to System Preferences/Displays and make sure that you're using 1280 x 800 resolution. Next, explain what looks stretched out. Is it your desktop picture, your open ap window, ?
If it's your open ap window, just resize it by grabbing the lower right corner and dragging it to size. If you can't get to the corner, drag the top of the window to the left until you can.

  • I've connected my external monitor (LG) to my new Macbook Pro 15" laptop, using the adaptor for VGA...the display now has a large black bar along the left side.  No adjustment on the monitor will fix it, no "options" on System Prefs either...any ideas?

I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro, and connected it ot my external monitor (24" LG HD) using an Apple VGA adaptor.  The only resolution that looks good is the 1920 x 1080, but the image does not entirely fill the screen.  There is a large black gap on the left side of the screen now.  It worked fine with my "last generation" Macbook Pro...no adjustment on the monitor will help, and cannot find any System Setting in displays such as "options" or widescreen setting.  I've gone to the LG site, but no "Mac" related tech support issues come up...no forum here seems to deal with this particular issue either...any ideas?

I have the same thing but with a 23 inch HP, worked fine with my MBP 13 from 2009 but the 2011 2.4 i5 does the exact same thing as yours!
Very confused and hoping that some one else can help.
    Thanks

i am waiting answer soon as you can
    thank you for help ...

You can open any document in this manner; however, you are confusing the purpose of "Rosetta." This feature does not open documents directly, but instead allows old programs to run that otherwise would not be able to on modern Macs.
Starting in OS X 10.7, Rosetta is no longer included in OS X, so old programs that have not been updated will not run. Therefore if a document you have can only be read by one of these old programs, then you will not be able to read it.
However, you can still right-click the document and use the Open With menu, and if a program is available that can read the document then it should be an option in the menu.

  • ITunes 9.2 not displaying "Now Playing" Song Info

I recently upgraded my iTunes to 9.2 and have discovered that instead of showing the song, artist and album information when playing music, it instead shows lines that show the song's levels in the top window. Any idea how to change this back to showing song information - I've tried everything I can think of but can't see an option to switch the display back.

In that off-white "Play Zone" (I guess theres no real technical term for it), check to the left of the EQ Visualizer you are seeing, you should see a little circle with a play icon in it. Click that until you get to the song information again. You probably just accidentally clicked it without knowing it.
For reference, that button cycles between what you view in that play area. So for example, this includes now playing info, EQ levels, downloading item progress, etc.

  • Dark displays, now both internal and external

I've occationally had problems with the display on my 17" MacBook Pro 2008 (Model A1261): sometimes the screen would not turn on. It started the first year I had it, but at the Apple store (when I got a bad key fixed) the repair man just said "Yeah, I've that problem sometimes too" like it was nothing to bother about :[
When I'd had the MBP for 2 years the problem became worse. Sometimes only my added display would light up, behaving as if it were my main display. But clicking on Detect displays would bring up MBP's display as well.
But now I can't get any display on at all, neither internal nor external :[ :[ :[
I've tried restarting several times. No response in either display.
What can I do?? I've had the MBP for 2 and a half year now.
Reset PRAM doesn't work - there's no regular upstart sound, but I can hear the hard disk running and the little white light in the front is on.
And if I need to do a complete reinstall, is there any reasonable way to save the files? (Hard to see what I'm doing when the screen is black...)

The only thing you have to do is to click the 'Reset' button in Preferences>Advanced>General.
Your 'iTunes Music folder location' will be reset to the default location on the internal disk.
All new imported music will be stored there.
New added music will be stored there if you have the checked 'copy files to iTunes Music folder location when adding to library' in Preferences>Advanced>General.
When your new Mac arrives and you want to transfer the library, first copy the entire 'iTunes' folder (in ./Users/YourUsername/Music) from your eMac to the exact same location on the new Mac.
To transfer the iTunes folder, you can burn it on CD or DVD, but a lot easier is to put the eMac in Firewire target mode.
This article tells you how to do that:
How to use FireWire target disk mode
After the transfer of the iTunes folder is completed, connect your external drive and run iTunes.
The new Mac will have a newer iTunes version and it will take some time to convert the old library format to the new format.
Once all works OK and If you want all your music on your new Mac, use the 'Consolidate Library...' command from the Advanced menu in the menubar.
All music from the external disk will be copied to the internal disk.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sometimes dual head display is stretched

Sometimes when I am logging in, instead of the gdm login screen appearing on my default monitor, it turns off the default one, and half of it appears, stretched in the secondary one.  If I log in with this setting, then the primary monitor is off unless I set it back with nvidia-settings.  Normally, and most of the time, however, it is fine.  This never happened on ubuntu so I think its becuase i did something wrong.  I'll provide any config files you think may pertain, just ask.  thanks

This is a bug, when operating in dual display mode on Win 2k with the desktop setup as a side by side virtual monitor ALL Java GUI applications fail to start. I've noticed this on all version of the JVM. However, when the desktop is setup as a top/bottom virtual display, Java GUI apps work correctly.

  • Yosemite display now 'flat' lacking contrast, colors poor

Is there any way I can revert back to the old display settings while using Yosemite on my 15" MacBook Pro? The new color palate is flat and display lacks contrast; in various non-Apple products (Photoshop, for example) buttons are now white-text-on-white (invisible). Why did Apple take a nice set of fonts and display and turn it into this!?

    Hello
I have exactly the same problem. I tried erase the PR RAM but the problem is still there. I tried a new monitor calibration but still not enough contrast and it looks bad. Who can help?

  • Swapped displays- now won't boot

Thanks in advance for any help provided with this:
I swapped displays between two white macbooks (one was cracked).  Now the macbook with the new screen can only just boot past the chime and the apple logo and then- kernel panic! - "you need to restart your computer........" big long error message OR the BSOD.
Tried safe mode, it's no better.
Booting in verbose mode i see the error "GFX0: family specific matching fails" and "display: family specific matching fails"
Is there a way to make the macbook happy with the new display?
    Thanks again.

Personally, I'd just save whatever you need from that hard drive, then wipe it clean and reinstall whatever OS you deem fit.
The hardware between these two machines is *way* too different. Even if you get the drive to boot in the Z60m, it will never work properly and might crash on you at any given point.
I fully understand that a lot of people view "fresh" installs to be a pain, but in this particular case that's the only way you'll have a stable system.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • May macbook pro with retina display now tells me 6 hours remaining when 100% charged, when i first bought it it used to tell me 8 hours left.. help?

when i first bought my macbook pro with retina it used to tell me 8 hours left when it was 100% charged, now it tells me 6 hours left.. help?

This is a Fault of the newer Mac's Power management scheme. There is a LONG Thread on it somewhere on this forum.
Hold down the power button for 10 seconds then let it up. Then wait a few seconds and press it again. The system should start back up. If it doesn't then you have some type of hardware problem and you need to take it to Apple to be fixed or replaced.

  • Reverted back to 8.1 from Windows 10 but desktop doesn't display now....

I just reverted back to Windows 8.1 because I was having issues with 10.  It looked like everything would be fine but now the desktop doesn;t show up.  I can move the cursor around and press control alt delete and use the options there but thats about it.   I was trying to boot the computer into recovery but I can't figure out how to do it.  I'd restore the computer to factory settings if I could at this point.  Is there a comand or anything I can run in task manager to do anything?   I am currently on hold with HP but that's going to be a long wait so any help would be appreciated. Edit:  I spoke to support and they were unable to fix the issue so we did a factory reset.  Luckily it was a new computer and what was on there was backed up already so no big deal.  I was trying to figure out how to delete this topic so if an admin wants to feel free to just delete it as no one commented or viewed it.

F11 would do the trick to restore the computer back to manufacture settings as long your restore partition drive is not disturb and to edit or delet the topic would be at your upper right corner above your post and you click on edit which i can not remember and you have to be logged in to edit your post
