Secret "killer"-MoBo ?

The MSI 915GM-Speedster-FA4 MoBo is hard to find on the MSI website amongst products / MoBo / sockets, but it do exist and has even start selling.- Komplett in Sweden got them in stock.:
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.asp?sku=312223&cks=PRL
The spec. is wrong ( says socket 478 when it should be socket 479 ( Mobile ).
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/server/svr/pro_svr_detail.php?UID=615
Would be interesting to know possible biossettings regarding vcore and mem.voltage ??
I´ve got an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe MoBo with the ASUS 479 adapter and an Intel Dothan/Sonoma Mobil cpu M730 / 1,6Ghz / 533mhz /2MB cache - overclocked to 2,5Ghz at std. 1.31v !!! - Complete Prime95 stable with std. Intel CPU cooler cpu temps stays at 34 idle and load 54c.
Super Pi 1.1 benchmark 1MB on 30sec. with some mixed bad std.RAM.
This little "devil" kills my other OC AMD and Intel system by far.
You have to make some cpu cooler modifications to change from std. cpu cooler to a zalman, but when I´ve done that and got better RAM,  I will raise vcore and try to reach somewhere between 2,7 - 3,0 Ghz and it will be the fastest computer in the neighbourhood !!.
The disadvantages on the ASUS solution is that it is based on an Intel 865 chip and limitied to 32bit cpu / AGP / DDR limitation ( dual channel OK on the ASUS board ) , but it´s still very exiting to play with.
There are some other Vendors that makes socket 479 MoBos but they do not performance as well or has some bios limitations.
If the MSI 915GM-Speedster-FA4, gives the same performance / bios setting possibilities like the ASUS soluiton, it could become a real "killer" MoBo, since it has got the Intel 915 chip that brings support for the PCIe and both DDR and DDR2.

Yes Maesus,
It´s the most expensive MSI MoBo av all models, if you exclude the socket 940 MoBo´s.
It must be good........
BTW,
Here is a Pentium M review, a Pentium M overclocked hits everything in it´s way - a cruel gaming cpu /rig.

Do you remember the Killer wifi motherboard we talked about few days ago? Today I will show you Killer LAN’s performance. The following video is from MSI youtube, let’s see how it beats all of other brands LAN!

heyhey already enjoying my Killer mobo right now!!! very smooth~

  • Another restarting problem!

Ok, in need of help again.
I was puting a fan into my friends comp (exact same spec as mine as below) and i powered it on ... it cut out.  I took the fan off again ... i powered it on, it cut out in like 2 seconds.
If i leave it for a while then switch it back on, it stays on til the first 'bleep' then cut outs.
Iv started to give it MINIMIAL load i.e. just the board and a floppy(dont ask me why) and its sometimes doing it.
is it the PSU? i know etech are not good but if i go to buy a new one, can you tell me what would be good on all rails?
Anyway i dont think its the PSU, coz it woz working VERY STABILY (NEVER hung or restarted for the MONTHS before it!)
    thanks.asmar

    Hi
Like wonks said Qtec are rubbish for this rig,  you may have been overstressing the PSU, then changing connections, or adding fan may have blown it.
What is room temp, try and keep it cool, it will then produce a bit more power.  but idf it is failing, be careful it does not 'blow' and kill Mobo and CPU.
If it works with just Floppy then it is almost certainly PSU relate4d, unless you have a dead short on another device.  If it was RAM it would not work anytime.
Why not borrow a good PSU and try it.
    Cheers

  • Z97-GD65 mobo and Killer E2200 Ethernet controller issue

    Hi there.
I recently bought a new board, a MSI Z97-GD65 Gaming and i'm happy with it, but I have a little problem I can't solve: My internet download rate is exactly 10MB/s when my connection can reach 20MB/s.
Following instructions of this forum I removed the Killer Ethernet Manager using the "Killer_clear(64bits)" and installed the stand-alone drivers for the Killer E2200 PCI-E Controller, but still suffering the same cut of download rate.
The only thing I could now is try to "transform" that controller into a "Qualcomm Atheros AR813X/AR815X/816X Series PCI-E Ethernet Controller", but I don't know if it would be the solution.
Anyone here has the same issue?
    (BTW I use Windows 7 64bits FYI)
    Thanks a lot!

Well, I bought a cheap PCI-e ethernet card, installed it, disabled the onboard E2200 killer, started Windows and I got 1,0Gbps in seven seconds without any other software installation need.
I don't know what's happening with Killer cards , maybe it's a driver issue or a faulty hardware, but i'm sure I won't buy in the future a motherboard that includes this network brand.
Honestly, I'm right there with you. I absolutely hate the Killer cards.....
Unfortunately, it's becoming harder and harder to get a motherboard without them, since all the OEM's seem to think that gamers want those cards on their computers. Personally, I hate them with a passion. The software is badly coded, and rarely works as expected.
The best thing I can suggest doing is using the drivers without the management software. This way you can still use the ethernet adapter, but not be limited by the management software. There should be a stickied post at the top of this forum I believe with information on it.

  • I think MSi Live Update 5 killed my mobo...

So today I finally got my new CPU and mobo (3570k and MSi Z77A-G43). I got Windows 8 up and running then I went to MSi's website to update my BIOS. I did not know what to really update so I just downloaded this Live Update 5 crap that would scan my rig and see what could/can be updated on my mobo. I went to download the BIOS update 2.8 (my mobo was on 2.5). I started the update and about a minute later my computer froze and it blue screen of death on me. It restarted and now it won't boot up anymore. Here's the things that happen next:
(Also, I don't have an optical drive so I used my dads USB BluRay portabl drive as my optical drive. I set that as my first boot priority and never got to change it since my PC BSOD'd on me).
1). When I start my PC with the USB portable drive plugged in it turns on but my screen is still blank. What is also weird is if there is a disk in the drive and it stops spinning, then the computer turns off.
2). And when I unplug the USB portable drive my PC just constantly boot loops.
I tried restoring the CMOS by jumping the pins. I tried taking out the battery for a while. I tried starting my PC with my HDMI cable plugged into the mobo itself. I know RAM and CPU aren't the culprits because I was able to install Windows 8. My CPU ran cool at about 34 degrees celsius when I looked in the BIOS.
Any ideas on what to do? I'm thinking its going to be RMA'd.

Try placing the bios file in the root directory of a fat 32 formatted usb stick and inserting it into a usb 2 on the back of the computer then trying to boot.

  • Bios 1.7 Killed My Mobo

    bios 1.7 killed my motherboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my local msi distributor checked it out and guess what ?
WITHIN ONE DAY THEY REPLACED IT AND GOT MY PC BACK TO ME
    WELL DONE LIGHTEDGE TECHNOLOGIES
with 1.7 installed and guess what again they 865 pe neo 2 -s board comes with DOT AND MAT
    thanx guys

I have encountered another strange problem after flashing to 1.4. ?(
My board was running fine on version 1.0 except for the 333MHz settings for my 400MHz memory and the high temp ratings.
I skipped the 1.3 version because of the messages posted here about dead boards, but I did upgrade to v1.4 because I wanted to get rid of the high temps and run memory as it's supposed to. After flashing the board seemed ok, however it did not boot on agressive mem timings. Temps were better, though not perfect, memory runs on 400MHz, but at CL 2,5.
After raising the Vcore for mem from 2,50 to 2,70 agressive timings worked fine and no stability issues occured.
Until about 23:25 yesterday that is...
When working in XP Pro compressing some files and copying files from my other comp, suddenly my comp rebooted spontaneously. It did reboot into XP again just fine, but it had me worried. So I was about to reset my mem settings when the CPU fan stopped... ?(  ?(  ?(
I reboot, reset my mem, restart XP, log in fan quits again... ?(  ?(
No idea yet, reboot again log in, fan keeps quiting  X(  X(
Anybody with the same problem?? Help??

  • X99S Gaming 9 ACK mobo not recognizing Killer Wireless

Exactly as title says. I have unplugged and replugged in my antenna, tried moving the antenna, and rebooted my computer and it still doesn't recognize the wireless. It was working perfectly before so I don't understand what could have gone wrong.
EDIT: Just tested my ethernet port. On board ethernet works 100% fine, so it seems to be an issue with the wireless alone.
EDIT2: Well, it works fine now. Still have no clue what went wrong. My b.

Just an update. I cleared the CMOS and loaded my saved configuration and rebooted and none of my USB worked. I rebooted again and now its all back up and running as it should be. Still no clue as to why it happens when the power goes out and it doesn't happen every time. I got this motherboard DOA and had it replaced and still having issues. Not sure how I feel about MSI since I have always used their products without fail.

  • Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

OK, a new issue that I can't resolve...
Having made my new kernel without any hiccups, I then installed it by using pacman -A kernel2.6.12.pkg.tar.gz. However, on boot-up it only gets so far, then gives me an error:
<0>Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
I've looked around on the 'net, and it seems this usually occurs when there's some problem with the hardware. However, I've used the config file from the 2.6.10 kernel I'm currently in as I type, so there shouldn't be any problems support-wise :?
    What could be wrong?
My fstab and config for the 2.6.12 kernel are below (I've included the fstab so you can see I've got support for my filesystems compiled into the kernel):

Arch is running on an Athlon-XP 3000+, with an Audigy 2 Value sound card, ASUS NF7 mobo (nforce2), 2 IDE hdds, 1 SATA hdd, a floppy drive, 3com Boomerang ethernet PCI card, and an ATI Radeon 9800SE.
I thought that I might have enabled both APM and APCI in the kernel by accident, but that's not the case
I know, as I've mentioned earlier in the thread, that there's an issue with the emu10k1 drivers used by my audigy in this kernel, but I've compiled that as a module under ALSA, and I assume it wouldn't have an extreme effect like this even if it were statically compiled.
    Any ideas???

Problem was resolved by self; I recompiled the kernel, again using ABS... I think I may have not incorporated an I/O Scheduler into the kernel, lol. Cheers anyway.

  • Nforce2 mobo doesn't post

It clears the CPU check, reads the ddr clock as 333 accurately, then stops. The hdd I'm using use to be in my kt3 ultra2 system, but I killed the mobo on accident before I could I reformat the drive or anything.... do you think the via drivers on the hdd are messing up this new system? None of the leds on the floppy, cd or the hdd are even lighting up... I can hear all my fans power up but if my hdd isn't even being accessed, then how could via drivers be causing this problem... I need all the help I can get from these forums! I e-mailed msi support and they replied with a basic list of suggestions for frequent problems to my specific and non listed problem.

  • Kentucky Fried Mobo - Odds of CPU Survival?

Today I have been mostly killing my Neo 2 Platinum.
I borrowed the vid card for another machine and after replacement the thing wouldn't boot. Power to fans - Dbracket stuck at early chipset - no beeps - powers on and off with case switch. Faint burning smell from NorthBridge AGP slot area. The same faint burning smell that comes from the beyond economical repair bin at work. Smashing. Tried part swapping for a couple of hours, stripping to basics, clearing cmos etc.
I won't be sorry to bin the board after all the gart driver fun, odd temps, your drive didn't really need a master boot record and Corecentre doesn't support your motherboard aggro over the last year or so. All the other components are now living with an AthlonXP or P3 for a bit.
Thing is, I don't have another board to test the Athlon 64 on. Have you killed your board? Did the cpu survive the process? It looks ok, doesn't smell or rattle or anything...
    TIA

I was in a similar situation a while back with a Socket A mobo and cpu. To test the cpu I bought a PC Chips mobo for under £7 to save frying another mobo. Can you buy something similar but S939, do PC Chips make S939 boards?
That's what PC Chips is good for...
    No doubt...
My 1st ever build was a Socket A ECS board about 5 years ago... I wouldn't inflict one of those upon my worst enemy.

  • Killed two 890fxa-gd70s, my fault or bad luck?

Not sure where to start but I had an MSI 890fxa-gd70 (amd) board for 6 months in which it was overclocked since nearly day one, all good till recently. This past friday the board failed. Durring prime the system shut down, fans and all, and a burning smell came from the northbridge area. Once out of the case it seemed like the choke below the 8pin power connector, or at least VERY close to that area was the source of the smell, NO visual signs at all on either side of the board of anything at all. The top of the choke had maybe 2-3 dots from heat im guessing. Overclock wasnt even "extreme". Just a new setting I wanted to try.
Well I got my rma number monday and picked up the replacement board tuesday and it failed durring prime the SAME way as the last one. This time absolutly no signs, the chokes had no dots. Originally started the computer, basic function tested, rebooted and applied mild OC settings and prime tested, died in less than an hour of total use and I was only maybe 10mins into prime. Im not sure the replacement was even remanufactured but maybe a "couldnt duplicate issue" and thrown into a white box to be given out. There was a capacitor right above the 1st pcie16 slot than was scratched with a slight dent and a scatch near the bottom of the north bridge heat since from someone removing their video card i guess.
So what the heck, is this bad luck or am I causing the issue? I am suspicious that I have too many fans on the mobo. My fan arrangement changed recently about the same time all this started. I have 4 120mm fans for radiators(2 kuhler 120 and 2 corsair 120), kuhler 920 pump, and the corsair mem twin fans driven off the mobo. Previously when I was overclocking I only had 2 120mm fans, pump, and mem fans on for a while but recently off, and back on when I added the other 2 fans for the radiator. Could this be partly to blame? Regardless Im planning on removing all fans from the board next time except the 2 kuhler ones being controlled by the pump.
I know overclocking is running outside rated settings but no one buys a board like this to run at stock settings, thats why they advertise all the OC features and even have a clear cmos button on the i/o pannel.
Keep in mind i have done gaming at 4255mhz cpu and 2900ish nb, but wasnt prime stable very long, while the board failed settings where as followed:
overclock that both failed on was 4140mhz (230x18)
nb was aprox 2900mhz 1st failure and 2760mhz (aprox) 2nd time
    1.40v cpu vdd
    1.25v cpu-nb on 1st failure and 1.21ish on 2nd failure
1st failure had a few other voltage settings up a bit, 2nd failure all others where auto except memory at 1.655v memory spec
power supply is a corsair gs800 watt:
     http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...orsair%20gs800
    mother board:
     http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130274
    setup:
    rosewill blackhawk case
    Msi 890fxa-gd70 mobo
    amd 1100t x6
antec kuhler 920 modded for 2 120mm radiators and resivout
    corsair 8GB dominator gt memory 1866mhz 4dimms
    msi gtx560ti twin frozr ii
    1 corsair f120ssd and 1 7200rpm seagate 1TB drive
    corsair GS800 psu
8 120mm fans and twin corsair memory fan that comes with dominator gt memory
So am I causing the issue or a case of bad luck and not to worry? Im really wondering if its the fans, thus why the asus crossfire has so many extra power connections on the board. I just figured the board had all those fan connections it must have been able to handle it, all but one was being used, maybe they didnt plan on 120mm fans being used in most of them.
I do wanna say Im glad msi has been friendly and am so glad they allow me to drop off and pick up since I live/work nearby. Today I dropped off the bad rma unit and they said they would give me a "new" one, probably a new refurb, but they told me to pick it up tomorrow because they are gonna burn test it overnight so I dont have any issues with the next one. Them stress testing it was nice. I would discuss my setup with them so we could both learn from it but the people I dealt with didnt seem to care how it went out.
Thanks for input guys, dont wanna waste my time or theirs smoking another board. Hope the next one does well or may need to look into a crossfire v. I have always liked MSI and also use their gtx560 ti.

manual settings. I wish I wrote my settings down other than just a saved profile, guess I should have also had my bios backed up too
I have played with a bunch of different settings but 4025mhz (230x17.5) was prime stable for one hour so i used that as my stable oc with only 1.40v on cpu vdd, think it even did an hour on 1.38v too if I remember but left it at 1.40 for good measure. Which if not mistaken is the max normal range the cpu is rated for and used durring normal operation when it ramps to 3.7ghz on stock settings.
I have done gaming (crysis2 w/dx11 patch and cod blackops)  on 4255mhz with 1.43v. Would easily play till I got tired after an hour of gaming, but would fail prime within 7-8mins...Would shut down and have fans all running and needed to cycle psu. I have always wondered if that was a psu issue since both games use all 6 cores but same time prime IS A KILLER so figured was just the cpu
When the board failed settings where as followed:
overclock that both failed on was 4140mhz (230x18)
nb was aprox 2900mhz 1st failure and 2760mhz (aprox) 2nd time
1.40v cpu vdd on both times
    1.25v cpu-nb on 1st failure and 1.21ish on 2nd failure
memory run in the 1840mhz range on 4 dimms
1st failure had a few other voltage settings up a bit (some where most 2 ticks above auto but sb 1.22v)
2nd failure all others where auto except memory at 1.655v memory spec and like mentioned cpuvdd 1.40, even nb was auto

  • 4 D-lights on all the time, Brand new CPU & MOBO today!!!!!

Hi all newbie here, i have been lurking here for a while, which helped me make my mind up what board to get. I just didnt think i would be posting this soon
I hope somebody here can help me, im well pissed off!!
I have just built my system after buying new CPU & MOBO (see below) today, i goto turn it on and all i get is:
4 D-Bracket lights on permanently and the CPU fan spinning but nothing else.
I have tried removing CPU 5 times now and i have used just 1 stick of ram at a time in DIMM 1 but still nothing.
    Has anybody got any clues?
    Thanks

My Iphone4 is secretly using alot of data even after I have double tapped the home button and closed all the apps running in the background.
This just started happening 3 days ago.
When im out of home, the phone drains battery REALLY FAST, I lose 6% battery in 5 minutes.
The phone also heats up and feels very warm after a few minutes.
When I turn the data plan off, it becomes normal again, like I lose 1% every 30minutes even while listening to mp3.
I can conclude that its secretly using the 3G at an alarming rate which causes the battery to die so quickly
I have uploaded 2 pictures showing what happens before and after I turn on my WIFI.
Notice that the ping spikes like crazy on my home network once I turn on my WIFI on my IP4

I hope someone can assist me with this!
    Thanks!!

There is a common misconception that closing an app on the Quick Launch screen (it's real name) also kills the app's background process. This is not the case. First, all built in apps (mail, contacts, calendar, game center, notes, reminders, Genius, Photo Stream, etc) continue running their background processes even if killed in the Quick Launch screen. For apps from the App Store killing the foreground process also gives the app the option of killing its background process, but it doesn't have to. In addition, any app that has Notifications enabled can restart its background process if it receives a Notification.
iOS 7 gives the user more control over background processes; you can selectively allow or deny any app to run in background. As you apparently have not upgraded this option is not available to you.
As Chris has already told you, there's an app on your phone that is stuck in a loop. As you discovered killing foreground processes did not resolve the problem. One trick that sometimes resolves this is to let the battery run down until the phone shuts off and will not restart. Then charge to 100%.

  • Delta-L seems to be killing BIOS chips.

    Long post, but please read.
I had (stiil have) a Delta-L, and it ran fine about a year or so.
After this time, ramdom/massive lockups begun.
After some time it died (in truth the bios chip got corrupted, and SURELY it was corrput, tried everything, even took out batteryfor a day, cleaned the entire mobo).
So i bought a BIOS chip with 5.8 bios version in it.I placed it on the board and it revived. After a day or so it died again.
Then I bought better PSU (its a Seventeam 420, I believe it's good PSU) to run my new mobo AN7.
Now I got a bios chip (49lf020a 2Mbit) and hot-flashed it with 5.8 bios and  Uniflash said the process was
    succesful.
So I put the in Delta-L (now using the new PSU) but it didn't come to life (shows Red-red-green-green or maybe green-green-red-red).
But CPU is perfect as memory is (theyre the same ones I'm using in AN7).
I believe that using bad PSU for about a year may have damaged something in the mobo.
Now why I believe it's killing BIOS chips.
After the Delta_L didn't came to life, I tried to reflash it with AN7, but now UNIFLASH shows red things in the progress bar.Looked like this http://img194.echo.cx/img194/9025/imagem8nr.jpg.
I even tried another brand new chip and it seems to have been killed by the mobo again.
    The question is..
What is probaly damaged in the mobo??? I want at least to try replacing it.
Of course CPU (and heatsink) and memory was placed correctly. And I don't belive it's VGA related since the code taht d-bracket shows is the same even if I take CPU or memory or VGA out, or even take the BIOS chip out.No beeps at all, nor
bootblock trying to access floppy.I tried it outside the case to prevent any shorts.
I believe IT MUST BE something related to BIOS cause the first time it died replacing the chip for a brand new one (with 5.8) revived it, but only for a day (and the first time it died the code in d-bracket was the same as now).

Quote from: Fredrik Åsenius on 15-May-05, 08:00:16
There are no unused stand-offs left behind the mobo, or a wire poorly isolated, pulling power all the time.
Is the memory well in place?
You are not sure, but might this be the lamp post  you got:
    "4 BOTH BOTTOM RED
Decompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting"
"Now I got a bios chip (49lf020a 2Mbit) and hot-flashed it with 5.8 bios and Uniflash said the process was
succesful. So I put the in Delta-L (now using the new PSU) but it didn't come to life (shows Red-red-green-green or maybe green-green-red-red)."
I'm tired: How did you flash the BIOS chip if it wasn't on the Delta board? What good would that do?
I tried reinsert memo lots of times, but It seems to have nothing  to do with memo, cause no matter if I take out memo, vga, or even CPU, the d-bracket always shows the same code and no beeps at all.
And I hot-flashed the chip with my AN7.Quote from: Glenn on 15-May-05, 08:26:18
Yep, board's probably fried.... Get an RMA
Is it possible for me to RMA it since the store where I bought  only gave 1 year warranty?
How can I test those little (some are about 0.08x0.03inches and some are bigger) components to check if they-re working? At least I would have some clue on how to fix this mobo.

  • Desktop motherboards with Killer Network: Does it work while using wif-fi?

So as the title asks, with the mobos offering Killer E2205 or any of the recent versions. Do they work with wireless connections?

What do you man exactly? Using the Killer ethernet while running a Wi-Fi connection at the same time? If so, yes that works. If you want to know if the Wireless is also Killer then no, it is not. Only ethernet is a Killer device on MSI desktop mainboards.
