Secret to the THX TruStudio sound card?

What is the secret to the THX TruStudio sound card?
I can't seem to get the driver to find the hardware.
I tried the Realtek HD driver. It seems to work, but I don't think it found that particular piece of hardware.
I still don't have sound.
Here is one of the errors I had, along with many. Even one suggesting I should upgrade to Vista.
Now I'm wondering, does this even works with Windows XP 64 bit edition?:
I did reseat it about three times. I still got the same error.
Did some reading on this issue in this fourm.
A lot of reading about conspiracies theories, although entertaining.
Not very helpful.
From what I understand, it's a buggy software install.
I don't want to go pointing fingers at anybody. I just want to know how to fix it.

This is what I found in details:

  • The Currently Installed Sound Card Does Not Support Direct Sound Input

I'm working Pro 1.5 in Win 7 with CPU: i7, 12 gb ram.
The computer is a Costco ZT System
    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11500733&whse=BC&Ne=5000001+4000000&eCat= BC|84|56671&N=4017755%204294908621&Mo=8&No=1&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1 &lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=
No "extra" sound card installed as described by ZT System the audio:
Flexible 8-channel capable audio with jack sensing
The speakers are working, as in Dictionary.com and .mp3 play perfectly, but there is not sound coming from the rendered program, nor from any audio files. The audio monitor is showing sound, but that's it.
I'm pretty sure all the *.csv, *.cfa or whatever the audio files associated with PP (project) have been deleted, but, I don't see the program doing the "audio" compilation thing.
Can someone help please? Sure hope it's not a 1,5/Win thing.
    Regards, Jon

    Jon,
First thing that I would do would be to install the latest Realtek drivers. You will need to go to the Realtek site to get these.
Next, in PrPro, there is an Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware setting page, with the additional ASIO Settings (at least in PrPro 2.0 and above). There you can set how PrPro handles audio. If you still have issues, I strongly recommend ASIO4ALL. It is freeware, and easy to install. Once installed, one goes to the settings pages above and choose ASIO4ALL for everything. This little driver has worked so well for people with lower-end sound hardware, up to true esoteric hardware, at the very upper-end of the spectrum. I cannot count the number of music editing professionals, who have been helped by this little free driver. I use it on my Creative Live DD 5.1 SS card, and it works perfectly.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Does Front Panel Audio Work When Using RCA Outputs from the X-Fi Titanium HD PCIe Sound Card?

I see that the rear panel headphone output is disabled when the soundcard RCA jacks are used.
But is it possible to have the front panel audio output work at the same time that the RCA jacks are in use or is it also disabled?
I am willing to tolerate inferior quality audio feeding my monitor and use the RCA jacks for my headphone amp.

I was able to construct a work around for this problem. A Y splitter from the RCA outputs is an option but can degrade the sound because of the uneven load presented to the soundcard.
Ten eleven inch Apevia CVTAUDIOE25 HD Audio extension cables were connected together in series to a SilverStone FP32 3.5 audio front panel bay. The extension cables were connected to the front panel audio connectors on the Titanium HD sound card and then the cables were run out of the computer case and up to the area near my keyboard. I connected the front panel audio bay to the extension cable and the bay sits next to the keyboard. When no 3.5 mm stereo cable is connected to the front bay near the keyboard the sound is normal out of the rear outputs. But when a 3.5 mm audio cable is plugged into the front panel bay audio there is sound out of the SilverStone front panel bay. The sound is still muted out of the rear RCA jacks when the plug is put in the front bay but it is only used when the main audio outputs are not required.
The function for me is that the front bay serves the same purpose that the previous front panel 3.5 mm audio extension cable did.
There are photos of this under a different user name on Audio Asylum PC Audio.

  • New sound card (E-MU 1212M) won't record higher than 48kHz

I'm running Windows XP Pro/SP2 with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor (motherboard is Elitegroup 848P-A). I have 1GB of RAM installed.
I do a lot of vinyl transfer work. I decided to upgrade sound cards to the E-MU 1212M to improve the overall quality of my audio.
The card install went well. I'm receiving an audio signal just fine. I can playback at 44.1, 48, 96, 192.
The only hitch is when I try to record. I can record at 44.1 & 48 but if I try to record at 96 or 192 I get the following message:"Another application has caused a sample rate change that makes the current session invalid. You may accept this change by loading session at the new sample rate indicated below...." The sample rate that it shows me is always 44.1 So when receiving this message it always wants to push me back to 44.1 This message pops up immediately after I hit the red "record" button.
There are no other audio applications similar to Audition installed on my set up. I have turned off the system sounds, the 1212M card is recognized as the default audio device. The on-board sound card has been disabled along with its drivers. Gone also are the drivers from my previous sound card.
The settings between the 1212M and Audition are following along with each other. If I set the 1212M for 44.1, 48, 96, or 192 and then open up Audition and check the hardware settings, its at whatever I had set the 1212M to.
Ive also gone through what items are being loaded during start-up of my computer. Ive tried disconnecting from the internet and shutting down all programs that might be active, ensuring that no other programs are running other than Au 3 and the 1212M PatchMix panel.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your time.
    -DLedin

"Before you did that, did you start a new session at 96k, and it still won't record into it? "
If you're asking if I first start a new session in PatchMix, yes, that's correct. I call up the 96k session in PatchMix first. Then I go and open up Audition to try to record.
If you're asking me if I start a new session in Audition 3 first, then I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. Remember, I'm new to Au 3. When working in Audition 1.5, I could hit the "record" button and a window would pop up, prompting me to enter a sample rate and bit depth for the audio I'm about to record. I enter what I want to do and press "OK", then Audition starts to record. I don't know if that window is what you're referring to as a "session".
If that is a what you mean by "session" then I would need to do some experimenting by setting PatchMix to 44.1, then open up Audition, hit "record", specify 96/24 in the window that pops up and see what happens. I would hope that I'd get a message from PatchMix that I need to go to set PatchMix for a 96k "session". That's actually a possibility I hadn't previously considered trying. I'm at work now but will look into this possibility after I'm back home & report back.
    -DLedin
EDIT: Since my last reading of your message you added a question:"Also, when you set the session up, did you take the check out of the 'use default' box?"
Please specify which application you're referring to when you say "session". PatchMix uses the term quite a lot. If there's a "use default" box somewhere that I need to take a look at then I need to know if it's in Audition 3 or PatchMix and just where to find it. Also, should that "use default" box be checked or unchecked? I appreciate your patience.

But this doesn't solve all my problems.
I'm still searching for a way of how to use the internal intel sound card as default PCM device if the USB sound is unplugged or not available during boot.
    Any ideas?

  • Alsa does not select correct sound card. SOLVED

I have onboard sound and do not have any additional sound cards installed. Alsa detects two soundcards, but for some reason seems to prefer the one that doesn't work. I am honestly not sure what the other audio device is; I do not have a second sound card installed, nor a modem or a PC speaker or any other audio device that I know of. It has always been that way, and I didn't look into it any deeper than that. I have been using Arch Linux for a about four years and the audio has worked flawlessly until I re-installed a few days ago.
For reference, the HDA NVidia sound card is the one I want to output sound. The non-working one is Conexant CX8801.
    My symptoms are as follows:
    $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC883 Analog [ALC883 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: ALC883 Digital [ALC883 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    # cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [CX8801 ]: CX88x - Conexant CX8801
    Conexant CX8801 at 0xf9000000
    1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfe024000 irq 23
As you can see, the Conexant CX8801 (the wrong card) takes the index 0 position.
My usual alsa setup routine is to run the alsaconf script. The alsaconf script edits /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf for me, where it should explicitly identify the HDA NVidia card as index 0. In the sound.conf below, alsaconf generated the first two lines. I wrote the third line as a course of troubleshooting, but it still does not work.
    $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
#THESE LINES WERE GENERATED BY ALSACONF SCRIPT
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
#THIS LINE WAS GENERATED BY ME
    option snd-hda-intel index=0
    $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    # /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    # NOTICE THERE ARE NO CONFIGURATIONS IN THIS FILE. EMPTY.
I am by no means an alsa guru, so that's why I've enlisted the help of the forums. Tell me, what am I forgetting? What don't I know?

    Install asoundconf http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23382
    do
    asoundconf list
to find out the correct name, then do
    asoundconf set-default-card bla
    to set the default card.
asoundconf creates a ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf and sets an include for that fil in ~/.asoundrc

  • Sound card issue

I have onboard sound, it's been working perfectly fine in Arch. The other day I took apart my computer to move it into a new case, dropped a screwdriver on the motherboard a couple of times, straightened a pin that I noticed was bent on the front panel audio connector (which I wasn't using), and when I hooked everything back up and turned the system on, I no longer heard sound. I didn't get any error messages from the sound system, and when I play something in, say, Amarok, everything looks normal, except for the fact that no sound is coming out of my speakers. So I suspect I physically damaged the part of the motherboard responsible for playing sound.
lspci still returns the name of the onboard device, though, and dmesg doesn't report anything different from what it normally reports about the device. Is there anything else I might try to see if there's a software solution to this?
I'd like to fix the onboard sound, but I thought that might not be possible, so I put in a cheap PCI sound card. lspci detects this too, but when I plug my speakers into that card's line out I also get no sound, although again everything on the software end seems to be fine. I tried disabling the onboard sound in the bios but the system still doesn't seem to detect that I want to use that card.
So, if anyone has any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong with the PCI sound card or (preferably) a way to try to fix the onboard sound, please post.

Have you run "alsaconf"? It could be your PCI sound-card isn't configured in ALSA yet.
Have you checked whether the line-out is muted? You could for example by "alsamixer" adjust sound levels.
If the on-board sound-card is disabled, there shouldn't be any other card for ALSA to pick up. Otherwise you need to check in /etc/rc.conf which card is picked up as default, in other words which module is put first in line.
Dropping screwdrivers on the motherboard isn't a very good idea. Even static electricity could severely damage components.

  • Any suggestion for a new sound card?

    Hello!
My old PC has left me alone, and I'm going to build a new one from scratch this month. I'll be running Win7, I doubt I'll be going for Win8.
As for the sound card, I'd need some advice on what to buy: I have always had SoundBlaster cards and have loved them all, so I think I'll go for a new SoundBlaster (not even taking into account the built-in sound card on the motherboard...), but I can't discern which one would fit me best. I mostly use MIDI and soundfonts for recording study bases for my choir to rehearse and for composing orchestral music: I usually need complex MIDI files with many voices and instruments to perform well.
My old sound card was an Audigy with (just?) 48 MIDI channels (45 free + 3 drum channels), I'd like to have some recent card with good Win7 drivers, but still with many MIDI channels and soundfont support.
The one thing I'm sure I won't be changing at this moment is my 5.1 analogic speaker system, so I need a card with 5.1/7.1 analogic connectors.
Any advice (or wise info on what not to buy) will be much appreciated, thank you all!!!

Thank you for your advice. Have you tested any soundfont bank manager? Regarding this same soundcard, the Creative helpdesk told me it does not come in bundle... I was suggested to try with this one: http://ccfiles.creative.com/manualdn/Applications/AVP/11113/0xCA3D54C2/SFBM_PCAPP_LB_3_21_02.exe (Creative Soundfont Bank Manager 3.21.02), but they also told me (copied from their email)
This Creative SoundFont Bank Manager 3.21.02 is not bundled to the SoundBlaster Audigy Rx. You can try and test this but we do not officially claim that it will work.
Please note that the Creative SoundFont Bank Manager 3.21.02 is compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit or 32-bit, Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit or 32-bit with Service Pack 1, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) 2005 or Windows XP MCE 2004.
For SoundBlaster Audigy Rx, it has synth a and synth b meaning 128/128 voices.
    No mention about Win8 compatibility...

  • External USB Sound Card and 6-channel 5.1 SS speakers not working

Hi. I purchased a few devices to expand my sound to 5.1 surround sound. However, I'm having trouble getting any results at all. Here's my situation.
    New 24-in Intel iMac
    Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speakers
PPA International External Sound 6 Channel USB device
I can select the audio device in the Sound control panel and under the Audio MIDI Setup utility. I have changed the device to be a 6 channel device, but I cannot get any sound to come out of the speakers at all. It could be that this particular USB audio device is not compatible, but since it shows up as a selectable device I had some hope that it would work. The device doesn't claim to be mac compatible, but that isn't always a requirement. I crossed my fingers and took a chance.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate the help.

I'm almost certain it is because of the lack of a mac driver for this particular sound card. <gasp> This setup works great under XP when using BootCamp. If I'm dead in the water with sound card, are there reliable alternatives I look for?
Here are the links to the products I'm referring to.

  • Powerbook G4 sound card

What is the consensus on soundcards? Should I upgrade for studio work using L7E or just keep the built in sound card in my powerbook G4.

You profile seems to say you are using a Firewire solo, whic you could use for outputs.
Also, depedning on your powerbook, you may have optical output capability - I am using mine with a set of reference monitors that have optical SPDIF inputs. I think that is probably fine, if you have the option.
Otherwise if you upgrade your audio interface, it may also have other options for output as well.

Preferably you would use a n AGP based graphics card as your radeon 9600 is. The PCI-x slots have lower bandwidth and would be slower.
    Possible Upgrades
    Radeon 9800pro
    Radeon 9800XT
    Radeon X800XT
    Radeon X850XT
    nVidia 6800GS/GT
    nVidia 7800
All of which are in demand and short supply at present due to the new RoHS recycling requirements.
