Section Number in Header

I want to generate the section number in the header. The body section heading uses a numbered list to automatically generate the section number.
According to this thread, it can't be done? But that was a couple of years ago and not sure if things have changed?

The other option may be a plugin, though I have never used one. I don't mind spending the cash if it works. Anyone else use this?

I am bit surprised ID does not have a solution for this. It would seem common, but maybe that is just me since I am surrounded by technical books all day.

Thanks. I didn't want to go down the plugin path unless I had to.
That being said, powerheaders does accomplish what I need (based on a trial run). So that is very acceptable solution for me! Saves a lot of time and significantly reduces chance of error.

Section Numbering in Header

On a master page, I need the section number and section title to show in a header. I am setting up a template for a multi-section document and making the transition from Word to InDesign templates has been a bit of a leap.
I created a text variable for my Heading 1 style and used it in my header to show the title of the section. For the number, all I could think of was that I needed use a section marker character in the header and had to specify it manually in the Section Marker box in my Numbering & Sections options window.
(1) Is this the only/best way of accomplishing this task?
and while we're talking about the window...
(2) Is entering the Section Prefix manually the only/best way of getting the section number to show in my footer page numbers?

I’ve had to deal with a similar problem while typesetting Shakespeare plays. Basically, I need a running header on every page that displays the act number and scene number. And it must all go into a single document (rather than an InDesign “book”).
My own “solution” to this problem seems so clunky I hesitate to mention it. I use GREP to add numbers (using invisible character styles) to almost every line. One invisible number is the act number, the other is the scene number. The running header grabs the first occurrences on each page of these two character styles, and displays them at the top of the page -- which is the only place where they are visible.
There simply has to be a better way. Alas, so far I’m unaware of it.
I’ll modestly admit, however, that this method isn’t as bad as it sounds. The invisible numbers add a negligible amount to the size of the document, and it only took about ten minutes to add them to Hamlet, a l-o-n-g play.
But tell me: what is the better way?

Add section title to header/footer? Using Pages 5.2 (or later)

I couldn't find a way to automatically have the title of the current section in the header or footer of a document.
Potentially I am missing something, I haven't tried to do this before, but it seems like a basic function of having a TOC in the first place.

Add an image to any page in the section, then drag it where you want it to appear on each page.
Reduce the opacity using the slider in the Style pane of the Format inspector to change the object’s transparency.
Choose Arrange > Section Masters > Move Object to Section Master (from the Arrange menu at the top of your computer screen).

Easiest way with Acrobat pro, is save the Word document, then convert the document to PDF with Acrobat, rather than doing a "save as" in Word itself to PDF.
Do you have Acrobat full version or Pro?

What should should the "Section Number" text variable display?

Regarding the updating text that comes from "Insert > Section Number" and is placed in a layout...
It seems that this text should always update with the section number, as the title states. However, each time I use it/test it, it displays the book title. Is this a normal occurance (and I am just confused by the name?), or should it be displaying something else?

Variable for section number

I know there is a variable for chapter number and figure number. Is there a variable for section number? I am in a situation with several chapters in one document - and I am not allowed to separate them into separate chapters or use the book panel. And they want the figures to increment by chapter and be picked up in the cross referencing.
So the logical solution to me is to use a section number variable instead of a chapter number variable in the paragraph style. Is there such a thing?
I asked about this issue at Photoshop World last week, but did not think to ask it this way. So I'm still hoping there might be a way.

Would that special character work in a paragraph style to assign the section number, for example to figure 7-1 where 7 is the section number? If so, how would I insert the special character in the bullets and numbering section of a paragraph style? If I could do that, I may even be a hero to my client!

Table section with 3 header rows pagination issue

Hi experts.
I have a table section pagination issue. In my case the table section combines 3 header rows.

As you can see on the first page there is no more place for a data row but the header still exists.
if I set keep with next flag on the pagination tab for all header rows the result will be:

I would like to have the header row output on the page only if a data row exists bellow the header, the footer should only output if a data row exists above.

The solutions is easy. You´d better create the corresponding DDIC objects hierarchy in the backend and then use the form to PRINT the prepared data ONLY. I mean:
In your backend:
in a row there is a dataset (table) and a optional dataset (table) == DDIC structure with two "fields" of type "table" = row A
use this "row" to create the "outer" table == DDIC table type with row A
Then you can just drag and drop this structure in your adobe form and will have do difficult with formatting.

I have maintained Revision number in material mster for Header material in Production order and also for components.
1)Revision number for Header material in Production order is not appearing in AFKO table against production order.
2)Revision number for components in Production order is not appearing in RESB table against reservation.
Any settings for that please guide.

Revision number generation is using ECM only possible. Are you using the ECM with revision levels. Check this.

I am still waiting for a call back from UK customer services who promised to sort my issue ASAP, 24 hours later still waiting!. I think they are in a different universe ,perhaps one that time stands still.

Incrementing Number in Header

Is there a way to add an incrementing number (like a PO number) in the header section of the form? The number would be automatically generated when a form is requested and people filling out the form would not be able to edit the number?

Report with Delivery number and header text as output

Hello all,
I need to create a "quick and dirty" report that which will give me every delivery number, and the corresponding header text, in the month of July for given shipping points. I am having trouble figuring out how to get the header text for the deliveries. I have searched and searched but the solutions given just don't make sense to me.

You need to use the function module READ_TEXT to read delivery header text.
Please go to transaction SE75 and use VBBK as the OBJECT to find the specific ID which is required.

Make details section as page header

Hi ,
I have a situation where I use the sections--- Details A, Details B and Details C. I used a Fake group header as page header for Details A. How could I make Details B section as a page header (for Details C section)without repeating on the same page and repeating once on each page.

Pivot Table Section Properties - Column Heading Display

Hi guys,
I've never noticed this until today but on 10G, we had the option, when formatting the section properties of a pivot table, to choose where we wanted to display the column heading (above, before, left, none - see image below).

Problem with creating bookmarks (word- pdf)

Index entries between section number and heading in my word document prevent the creation of the section number in the PDF bookmarks.
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (9.4.5) and Microsoft Word 2007.
Does anyone know the problem, and more importantly, does anyone have a solution?

What version of WORD and Acrobat? I just ran PDF Maker with WORD 2007 and AA8 and turned off the headings 3 that were in the document and they did not show up in the bookmarks.

Section header with portrait and landscape view

My iBook project is being created so that it is available in both portrait and landscape view. This has been a tricky process since alot of content was distored when I created the layout using landscape and then attempted to adjust the portrait view after that. Currently, after many adjustments, I am attempting to remove the small "section number header" throughout the book at the very top of each chapter header in portrait mode. I was able to remove the the section number from the landscape mode, but can't seem to figure out how to do so with portrait mode (or if it is even possible?)
Help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Remember....layout in landscape - edit content in portrait.
Did you try to select the section number header in the style drawer and remove it from the master layout?
