Secuity Preference pane and duplicate fonts

I resolved duplicates in Fontbook and after that I could not open Security Preference Pane. Some duplicate fonts I could not resolve, such as Time, Monaco and Helvetica. After this I can not open Security Prefernce Pane or it will crash. After reverting back to duplicate fonts I could open the pane. Some explanation ? Does this pane need duplicate fonts ??

  • I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail is not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail are not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice. Yesterday, the signatures were stacking instead of switching to the one I wanted to choose.

I had this and fixed it.
I had upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures in Mail were fine. But then about a week later, I got a new computer and used Migration Assistant to copy my stuff to the new machine. Upon opening Mail, I had all the correct Signature information in the Preferences>Signatures window, but nothing worked.
After lots of hunting, I found the Signature Folder. It's in:
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
Looking at my previous setup (which works) I saw in that folder two types of files: .webarchive and .siganture
Looking in my new machine's Signature folder, I saw only the .webarchive folders, not the .signature folders
Since this was literally a clone of my previous setup to a new machine, here's what I did:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. In Problem machine, go to
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
    3. Move the Signatures folder someplace safe, but out of the MailData folder
    4. Get the Signatures Folder from the working install (like a backup) and copy it to the MailData folder on the problematic machine
    5. Start Mail on the problem machine
This worked for me. I don't know why Migration Assistant didn't copy the full signature folder, but this fixed it. It worked perfectly partly because I had just backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner and the very next day set up the new machine. I don't know where Lion or earlier versions of mail stored signatures, but the absence of the .signature filetype seems to be the problem.
    Hope this helps

  • System Preferences pane and ipfw rules conflict

If i configure ipfw rules using this script (launced with sudo):
    #!/bin/bash
ipfw add pipe 1 ip from any to any out
ipfw pipe 1 config bw 200Kbit/s queue 50KBytes
ipfw add pipe 2 ip from any to any in
ipfw pipe 2 config bw 2Mbit/s queue 50KBytes
    or using WaterRoof (http://www.hanynet.com/waterroof/).
When I try to access the Firewall configuration page of the System Preferences pane an alert window notice me that there is another software firewall already running and that I should disable it to be able to access rules configurations from the System Preferences pane.
Is it gone crazy? What should I do to have access to firewall configuration from the System Preference pane and contemporary have access to commandline advanced rules, avoiding them to conflict?

The "solved" post in this thread addresses how to regain control, albeit not while simultaneously allowing control from a command line ipfw or the WaterRoof GUI front-end.
The first "helpful" post in that same thread talked about how if Sys Prefs Sharing saw an altered ipfw list, then Sharing assumed other firewall software was running, so you got the "other firewall" splash screen, or something like that.
It appears that they don't like to coexist, and there's probably nothing that you can do about it.

  • Could not load iCloud preference pane and could not load internet accounts preference pane

after a recent not so succesful time machine restore, and after turning internal hard drive and ssd on my macbook pro late 2008 into a fusion drive, I get these error messages in the system preference : could not load iCloud preference pane and could not load internet accounts preference pane. I noted that Mail, Calendar, notes etc all sync to my various device, but on my mac, I can't access the accounts feature. Can anyone help me resolve this issue ? I searched all over the net with no success...
    cheers !

iMac (Processor 3.2GHz, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3, 3TB HD) Running Mavericks (10.9.4), I have the exact same problem. Local Apple Store unable to help. Turned to my AppleCare Program. They say their techs have never come across this issue this was what was done:
Have downloaded & new copy of OS X  = same issue.
Deleted OS X Reinstalled OS X on blank drive - restored all my data from backup = now have no MS Office, no Adobe Photoshop Elements, no iWeb, no Parallels, no VMWare, no iPhoto in fact, nothing of "my" machine. (but problem is still there)
Advised to do an "Internet Restore" from good Backup (over 24 hours to complete); when complete, machine restarts = a circle with a cross diagonally through it and the spinning wheel. (It goes no further no matter how many times you reboot)
Now on my own, booted using "Command + R" to start in Recovery mode. Changed all permissions in Disk Utility. Rebooted. = my machine is back - all data intact and all programs there & working BUT problem persists.
I have now turned to Communities. Followed everything people said worked for them but in my case, after a reboot, I still cannot load iCloud OR Internet Accounts Preferences panes!!
If I add a calendar item on my iMac it will not sync with either my iPad or iPhone. If I add a calendar item on either my iPhone or my iPad that item will sync with the other device but will not sync to my iMac. The same is true for Contacts as well. Extremely annoying to have to type it in all the time. This is Apple for heavens sake and therefore it should work!!

  • Preferences pane and Mail crash when I access accounts in Mavericks

Mail won't work on my iMac all of a sudden. Initially it just failed to launch and had to be force quit. I managed to reset Mail and it launches but doesn't do anything - no accounts showing up. (Before this happened, smart mailboxes stopped working).
If I try to delete my iCloud accounts the preferences pane freezes when I click on iCloud (and, bizarrely, my bluetooth keyboard stops working - has to be disconnected and reconnected)
Messages also needs to be force quit - so it seems like an iCloud issue.
I'm trying to delete my iCloud account from the iMac to start again, after reading somewhere that this might be the solution, or it was something to do with iCloud keychain.
I restarted my Mac in safe mode, but the problem still occurs: spinning beach ball when I go to the preference pane.
I can access email on my Macbook Air (also running Mavericks) and on iOS devices.
Resetting Mail did not work. Removing extensions did not work.
    Any suggestions gratefully received!

I have a similar problem. Although, for me, Mail doesn't crash. I have two email accounts; Yahoo and Gmail. My experience is that Mail will pick up my new emails from Gmail, but not Yahoo.

  • FAQ: How do I clear out my font cache to fix font style and duplicate font style issues?

We have a Script availabe for CS6 beta users who are experiencing particular font related issues.
This script will help by clearing the font cache and will test for corrupted fonts.
This will solve some of the type issues with duplicate font names and some of the other font errors.
This script is to help to find corrupted fonts. The script itself doesn’t solve the problem.
This script doesn’t solve duplicate font name, but clears out your font cach .  It it will solve some duplicate font style name issues such as the one  in the link below.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4306828#4306828
There is a pdf file explaining how to use the script and what it will do.
    See attached files.

Monica, I know the Normal Character Style in Illustrator must be defined. But my question is about the Normal Paragraph Style, not the Normal Character Style. As Larry just said, in most of my documents, and in my New Document Profiles, these fields in the Normal Paragraph Style are blank (undefined), so I know this is possible. In a few older documents I'm converting, the Normal Paragraph Style has a defunct font, and even though my Normal Character Style is correctly defined with the current font, it's creating some weird behavior.
Larry, it doesn't appear to be the document itself, it just appears to be not knowing what the right keystroke combo is to clear it. Just make a new file from a Document Profile where the Normal Paragraph Style does not define one of those font fields, define a font and/or font size, save, then reopen the paragraph style settings and try to clear any field that has been set. I can't clear it, I can only change the font.

  • "Processor" Preference Pane and whining noise

I used to have a TiBook, which worked fine. Then I bought a MacBook Pro as soon as it was announced, and I was stuck with one of those models that had the high-pitched, whining noise:
It seems that this noise was coming from the Intel processor in the "naps" it would take. After a year of complaining, Apple finally accepted my computer for repairs and soved that issue.
In the meantime, my mum would use my old Titanium PowerBook and at some point (after some MacOS upgrade???) that one would start doing precisely the same whining noise, too.
The funny thing is that I also noticed the Control Panel exhibiting an additional pane, called "Processor", whereby you could inhibit the hissing and whining noise by unchecking the "allow nap" button. Strangely, I don't have that control panel on my MBP (why?), even though we both have 10.4.11. If I uncheck "allow processor naps", the whine stops, but the computer vent goes off often, which is equally annoying.
So does anyone know the story of why at some point the PowerBook G4 would start having that whining hissing noise? (About the same time when my MBP was cured of it?) And most of all: does anyone know how to return the TiBook to its original state?
(I posted something on the TiBook forum recently, yet the discussion was helpful but inconclusive there:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6199028#6199028 )

    Hi,
I can't comment for most of your questions (as I don't know ) but:
Strangely, I don't have that control panel on my MBP (why?), even though we both have 10.4.11.
The processor panel is added when you install the OS X Developers tools - I assume you didn't install that on the MacBook Pro.

  • TS3989 New MacAir but  photostream does not work.  Message though everything is on. "In order to use Photo Stream, you have to be signed into your iCloud account in System Preferences." And,

New computer but Photostream does not work.  I am signed into my account but get the following message:  In order to use Photo Stream, you have to be signed into your iCloud account in System Preferences.  I go to system preferences and then get a message that says that my account cannot be accessed.  However, I am using my icloud account for email and other items and it works fine.  Any thoughts?

Are you getting this messages in iPhoto? If so try the following (again?):
Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • Keyboard/Mouse Preference Pane Deleted

I was having problems with my right click feature with the trackpad. When I would use both fingers on the trackpad it would not give the right click menu. I did check that the option was enabled in the Keyboard/Mouse preference pane. So I went into my System Folder / Library / Preference Panes / and deleted the Keyboard/Mouse preference. I rebooted thinking it would just recreate a new preference pane. The right click feature works now, but there is no Preference Pane for Keyboard/Mouse in the System Preferences. How do I get it back?
    Thanks in advance.

    BlackBook Week 38   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Wow Andrew!
You want to delete preferences not preference panes. You really shouldn't even get into the System folder unless you're sure of what you're doing. If you want to try Trashing stuff try it out first from your User folder. Anyhoo......
How do you get it back? Easiest way? Click on my name, get my email and I'll email you back the pane.

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 freezes when preference pane is selected in OS 10.6.8

First I had a crash of iphoto I think due to me using random photos as my screen saver and something got corrupted.......and then I finally rebuilt database from auto backup... Yay! that brought back my 5000 photos and metadata... I went to the preference pane and the beachball keeps spinning until I force quit... I tried repairing permissions , tossing out the plist for ilife 09 (it wouldnt run until I put it back) .... Any suggestions...... this is my mac mini 2.4 GHZ with 4 gigs of ram running 10.6.8 (snow leopard)

Hi I had the same problem and I just talked to a iPhoto specialist at Apple support.
The problem was because I logged onto mobile me in my case.
Go to Left top apple mark and select Systme preference - MobileMe and see if you sign in MobileMe.
If so, please sign out from MobileMe and re-open iPhoto and try preference.
According to the specialist, iPhoto tries to connect to MobileMe which is not in use anymore.
I hope this will fix yours too!

  • System Preference Pane Errors

    Good evening everyone,
I'm currently having some issues with my iMac in relation to the System Preference 'preference panes' and the Bluetooth connection to my machine.  A large number of preference panes are giving me two types of errors when trying to open them in System Preferences.  I've listed the two errors below, followed by the panes that aren't working based on the stated error:
Error Type 1 - "You can't open (preference pane name) preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac.
         - Desktop & Screen Saver
         - Security & Privacy
Error Type 2 - "Could not load (preference pane name) preference pane.
         - Dock
         - Spotlight
         - Energy Saver
         - Keyboard
         - Mouse
         - Trackpad
         - Bluetooth
         - Sharing
         - Users & Groups
         - Parental Controls
         - Accessibility
All other preference panes seem to be working correctly.  I only noticed this issue because my Bluetooth mouse and trackpad stopped working and several suggestions mentioned looking at settings, which I can't do.  If someone could help me correct this/these issues it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Try this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Netboot client doesn't see image in boot disk preference pane.

    Hello all,
This is my first time building a netinstall server and I am running into some issues. The reason for me creating this server is that I have a bunch of xserves that don't have DVD-ROMS. Since apple has decided to use DVDs as their only media this makes installing 10.5 a bit of a pain for me.
Every method that has said to work has not worked for me so this is my final option to try and probably makes the most sense. So he is my scenario.
I have an intel xserve that I am using as my image server where I am trying to push any install to a G5 xserve.
I have created the image and have set up the netboot service and dhcp to use this image as the default.
I have connected a crossover cable between this server and the G5 server so that I am off of the corporate network.
I take a look at the start disk preference pane and I don't see the image that I created. According to what I have read, I should see an option with a green "download" arrow that shows that its a netinstall.
I am doing this install without much documentation since I wasn't able to find any solid documentation on the entire setup and installation process. Any help is appreciated. Sorry if I didn't provide enough information :-/

The NetBoot service is pretty straightforward... it's some of the other ones you'll probably have trouble with. In short (starting from a clean installed server):
    1) Select the server in the left panel.
    2) "Configure" NetBoot (Settings -> Services).
    3) Save.
    4) Select NetBoot in the left panel.
    5) Enable a port (Settings -> General).
    6) Select a volume to serve from.
    7) Save.
    8) Add any images you might have to <selected volume>/Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0
    9) Go to the images tab (hit the refresh button if necessary) and enable your images (if needed).
    10) Save.
    11) "Start NetBoot".

  • Processor Preference Pane

I recently installed the Processor Preference Pane from the /Developer/Extras/PreferencePanes/Processor.prefPane. I then chose to show the preferences in the menu bar up next to spotlight, time machine, etc. However, once I rebooted my machine, I lost the preference pane, and I now can't access it either from the menu bar or opening the Processor.prefPane file. Additionally, the menu bar item causes other menu bar items to fail such as iStat Pro. Any ideas on how to remove the processor menu bar?
    Thanks.

move the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist to the desktop and log out/in. all apple menu extras should be reset.

  • Missing Firewall Preference Pane

    Hi there,
Have an issue that is somewhere between strange and concerning.
I cannot see the Firewall tab on the machine's own Security Pref Pane - as in the tab isn't even there, just General and Filevault.
Concerns me that this may indicate malevolent activity. Tried altering Server Prefs in case that hid the machine's tab, but no joy.
Would rather confirm that it isn't the result of an attack, though ClamXav shows nothing. Would also rather not have to reinstall the OS.
    Any pointers or advice?
    Thanks.

If you're on Mac OS X Server here and not on Mac OS X client (and given the occasional client question does get posted here in the server forums), then the server firewall is managed with Server Admin and not with the System Preferences pane.
And FWIW, I've had various problems with the Server Preferences pane and prefer to use Server Admin here and not the Server Preferences mechanisms. If you're new to managing an Mac OS X Server box, then Server Admin and Workgroup Manager are your new best friends here; you'll be using these tools for various tasks.
I'd also recommend not connecting a Mac OS X Server box directly to the internet; using a firewall. While that direct connection can and does work, your [servers will end up on the receiving end of dictionary attacks|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11335576] and pretty much anything else that some denizens of the Internet can throw at your box.
An external firewall isn't a panacea, but it keeps some of the load off the box, and it also avoids cases where you accidentally reconfigure something and open a port, or when installed software has a vulnerability. An external firewall effectively forces you to connect to and configure allowed traffic at the firewall, rather than on the server; you have to explicitly choose to open a port.

  • System Preference Pane won't start! No ICAL sync or ICloud

    Hello Apple Community,
I've got a huge problem! I recogniced that my Ical didn' sync anymore with my Googlemail Calender. So I looked into my System Preferences and tried to access Internet Accounts or ICloud. In both cases I got an error message with error in the System Preferences : the System Preferences "Internetaccounts" could not be loaded. Same with Icloud. I tried to reinstall Maverics two times. Second Time after erasing the two Preference Panes and erases the caches.
    Nothing worked!
Maybe there is someone with the same issue and knows how to solve this.
    Thanks in advance!
