Secure Area - Password Protect

Hi everyone.
This is my first thread so please be gentle on me
I'm looking for assistance in the following - I'm designing a website for a client, and he asked me a secure zone for his own clients to be able to login safely and see their documents (only to see, not to modify anything).
I have no knowledge on programing, so I was really hoping you could help me out on how to do this. I downloaded a Password Protect widget but there are two problems with that:
1 - when entering the password, it's not a secret, meaning, if the password is Hello, when I'm typing on the password box you can see exactly what I'm typing. No secrecy at all, and I'm sure he won't like it.
2 - The password is the page name, because what I'm doing when entering the password is telling muse to go to THAT page. So, if the password is Hello, when you open the page, the name of the tab on the browser will be Hello.
Not acceptable, unfortunatelly.
I wonder if there is another way to do this, maybe using Business Catalyst? But I've never used it before and don't really understand it at all.
Could a loving soul help a brother out, please?
This is the project of the website - www.mareassetmanagement.com - the password for the secure area is 1279 and you can see what I'm talking about.
Looking forward for your replies.
Bernardo

@My adobe/ PDF documents are password protected. How can I remove the password?

Hello,
two answers I found in my library about removing or finding unknown password:
Removing: "Not with any Adobe products, and other products are not discussed on these forums..."
Open a file: "The only way to open a password protected file is to know the password (there's no way to get around that). Hopefully you know who created the PDF and can get the password from them."

my adobe account was hacked and compromised, emails were sent out on one of my accounts. I changed my adobe password, when I scan my computer, some adobe files are password protected and can not be scanned, is this normal?

I have contacted them, but apart from letting them look at it and deal with it, is there anything I can personally do myself? Or is it just a matter of waiting for me now?

• PDF Files are password protected. I never set a password

There are a lot of pdf files in the document section. Must be book or magazine pages as they are titled "page101.pdf" and so on with a date underthem.
I tried to open one to see what it was and I got a "password protected" and a box to enter my password. I never set a password for this app. I tried using my Adobe password and my google password to no avail.
How can I open them to see what they are?
Thanks.

The request for a password has absolutely nothing to do with a password for the application or any relationship to your Google password.
The message password protected refers to the PDF file that you are trying to open. Apparently, whoever created the PDF file either a PDF file creation or subsequently password protected the PDF files. You will need to contact whoever supplied those PDF files to you to obtain whatever the password is or passwords are.

Matt,
Thank you for the speedy reply. I will pass this back to the Corporate office and see what they have to say.

• How do I send/email Documents with high security and password protected

I want to send Documents securely to my clients. What product do I need and how do I send/email with password protection? I recently purchased Adobe Send but not sure this was the right product needed to send my documents securely?

In Acrobat you can create a Portfolio in which your documents (any types) will be placed as attachments and encrypt the whole portfolio. You can also create a small PDF, possibly with explanation what is in it, attach your files to it, and encrypt this PDF. In this case you can encrypt attachments only, so that the user can open the shell PDF but to extract the files would need to know the password.

• SECURITY: Overriding password protection using OS X disc

Do I understand correctly that the administrator password can be reset by using an OS X install disc?!
The problem is not that I forgot my password, but that anyone can access my information by simply restarting using an OS X disc?
Besides encrypting the home folder, how do I make my system more secure than that?
From Mac Help:
Resetting the original administrator account password
Follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account (of several) needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, the original administrator user may reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above.
Start up from a Mac OS X Install CD (one whose version is closest the the version of Mac OS X installed). You should first disable Open Firmware password protection, if it is enabled. Hold the C key as the computer starts.
Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger). Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the CD yet.
Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
Set the user name of your original administrator account.
Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually a reference to the root user. Do not confuse it with a normal administrator account.

Hi
I believe you can set an open firmware password to prevent someone booting from the OS X disc:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106482
At the end of the day though, if someone has physical access to your computer and in particular your hard drive, they could probably access your information anyway by simply removing the hard drive and mounting it in another computer.

• Why Are Password Protected Forms not Fillable on Reader App

I have made a fillable form on Acrobat X Pro that is protected with password security in order to deny printing or editing (other than filling the form and commenting), however the app will open but will not allow you to fill it. The document's forms are fillable on any other computer. How can this be fixed?
It is reader version 10.4.1 on a Asus Transformer TF300T android Ver 4.1.1

As you have discovered, Adobe Reader for Android does not yet support filling encrypted forms. It is something we are considering for the future, but I cannot give any insight into when we will have that support available.

• Cl58: How Secure are passwords stored on Firefox

Without divulging anything to sensitive. How protected are the passwords we have stored on firefox. Thanks!

The names and passwords are encrypted by a Triple-DES key that is stored in key3.db and a master password adds an additional level to that encryption.
If you do not use a master password then having access to key3.db and signons.sqlite is sufficient to have access to the encrypted names and passwords.
So use a strong master password (e.g at least 12 characters) that can't be easily guessed or found via a dictionary lookup or a script then you should be safe.
Make sure that you remember that master password or all passwords are lost.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_DES - TripleDES (CBC mode)

• Why do the new Tiles show password-protected content?

I updated to the new 33.1 version of firefox with the enhancements to the tiles displayed on a blank tab. I do not know if this behavior started prior to this update, or with it; just that my attention was drawn to it during the 33.1 tour.
Issue: Some of the tiles are displaying screenshots of pages that are password-protected. These are for sites that I am currently NOT LOGGED IN TO. Therefore, my expectation is that no protected data should be visible. This is not what is happening. An FTP site clearly shows filenames and data; my dropbox account shows the various folders, etc. Again, these are accounts I am signed out of, so there is no way firefox should have cached images of them.
In my opinion this is a serious security bug that needs addressed. In the meantime, any way I can disable this behavior?

Firefox captures thumbnails while you are viewing a site and caches those for later display on the new tab page. It is not doing a real-time login to your FTP site.
You can block sites from the new tab page if you do not want them there. When mousing over the tile, look for the "X" in the upper right corner.
To stop Firefox from capturing a thumbnail image of a site, currently, there is a preference you can add to completely stop Firefox from capturing thumbnails at all, but the bug filed to try to work out how to block sensitive sites selectively is still under discussion.
To use that global preference:
(1) Select and copy the following preference name: '''browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled'''
(2) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(3) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''thumb''' and pause while the list is filtered. (This isn't strictly necessary, but makes it easier to see your change after you make it.)
(4) Right-click in the list area and choose New > Boolean. In the dialog asking for the preference name, paste the one you copied earlier and click OK. Given the choice between false and true, choose true to disable capturing of thumbnails and then click OK.
This is not retroactive, so Firefox still will have copies of your previously captured thumbnails. I'm sure there is a way to clear those, but I'd have to research it.
Regarding the bug report I mentioned: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=755996 755996 – [New Tab Page] shows sensitive information in the thumbnails]. • Crash when editing a Password Protected page

I have an issue with a Mac user that is trying to edit a site
I created. Some folders on this site are password protected –
meaning that pages on the site require user names and passwords to
be entered for them to be viewed by web surfers. This user can log
on and edit parts of the site that are not password protected but
when he navigates to a folder that is, and chooses a page to edit,
his computer locks up. Normally, when one of my PC users chooses a
page to edit that requires a password, from within CT, they are
presented the security window and prompted to enter the info. Once
entered, CT allows assess to the page for editing as normal.
Anyone know why the Mac is locking up when this user tries to
edit a page with a password?
This user can “surf” the site with their version
of Safari or Firefox and view password protected pages – just
not from within CT
We are using CT CS4

The error occurs when they use the choose button. And, that
is currently the only way to get access to those pages since all of
the password protected pages do not have direct links. These page
links are sent out via email ( with un and pw info ) so clients can
get direct access.
I do not know if he has tried typing the url directly in the
address bar ( can that even be done ?)
The only thing else I've learned is that he is running OS
10.4.11.
Thanks for responding.

• How Can I see the BlockDiagram of a password protected VI

I need to modify some VI but I can to open the Block Diagram because are password protected.
I can to find into the forum tahn can help.
Any body has an I dea how?
Thanks

I nearly learned this lesson the hard way: If you have something you want to distribute but need to do it securely, then keep a backup copy that is not protected by the same means. Example: email yourself a copy of the unprotected file (not for extremely sensitive stuff, of course) or save it to a flash drive that you can lock up. Bottom line: never depend solely on your memory for these things.
