Secure Boot Status: DISABLED. Cannot enable Secure Boot via BIOS.

BIOS Security Page displays:
Secure Boot ENABLED
Secure Boot Status DISABLED
I have attempted to ENABLE Secure Boot multiple times but Secure Boot Status remains DISABLED
This problem occured after BIOS Upgrade to v3.07
I have Lenovo G510 Laptop
Windows 8.1
BIOS Version 79CN48WW (v3.07)
I have tried the recommended solution of "Reset to Setup Mode" and "Restore Factory Keys".
This did not solve the problem, Secure Boot Status still indicates DISABLED.
Please suggest an alternative solution to this problem.

I was scared to attempt the recommended solution of "Reset to Setup Mode" and "Restore Factory Keys", but it actually worked for me!

  • WRT54GS v.6 cannot enable security mode.

    hey guys,
I've tried everything, even a firmware upgrade and I've been using IE and I cannot enable any security.  anytime I try to select WPA or WEP or anything it refreshes automatically back to "disabled".  I've tried multiple resets as well and am extremely confused....this is a new comp. but it seems odd for that to be a problem.
    thanks and best,
    Adam

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since the last firmware upgrade, please do this now and see if it corrects your problem.   If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.  You must setup the router from scratch.
See ***  RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS ***  below, for how to reset your router to factory defaults.
If the above does not fix your problem, then you probably have a communication problem between your computer and router.  To fix this, do the following:
You do not need an Internet connection. The router's "web pages" are built into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 , then login to your router. Your user name should be left blank. Your password is "admin" (with no quotes), unless you changed it.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
Some Zone Alarm users have reported that adding 192.168.1.1 to their list of "trusted" addresses fixed the problem. This trick might also work with other firewalls.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker, and the Ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Report back with this problem, and also state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the router).
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.
If all of the above tips fail, then reset the router to factory defaults: Power down the router and disconnect all wires from it. Wait one minute. Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the router to reset and reboot ( 2-3 minutes). Power down router. Wait one minute. Connect one computer, by wire, to a LAN port on the router. Boot up system. It should work.
If you still have trouble, then you need to download and install (or re-install) the latest firmware for your router. After the firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
How to do a    ***  RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS ***
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is likely dead. Report back with this problem
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. Report back with this problem.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Cannot enable secure imap authentication

I cannot enable CRAM-MD5 for imap services in server admin. Whenever I select the cram-md5 checkbox and click on save, serveradmin looks as if it's saving the new setting, but the interface always reverts back to "clear".
This happens when I select cram-md5 and clear, and also when I just select cram-md5 (i.e. require cram-md5).
I get similar behaviour when I try to enable apop for pop3 mail service.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

  • FaceTime Disabled; Cannot Enable

FaceTime is "off," and won't turn on. I can toggle the slider, but it just spins endlessly once I do. It doesn't even report an error, and eventually just goes back to the original "click here to enable" screen. It's not asking me for a username, and it won't let me open preferences. I've deleted (I think) all the .plist files for FaceTime. I've flushed DNS and added open DNS servers under advanced Network Settings. I tried the Keychain fix described in some of these threads. No dice. When I open FaceTime, Console reports thusly:

  • Enabled security on network, now other 2 computers can't access internet

I enabled security by entering a 10 digit number in the WEP key 1 slot.  My other 2 computers then lost connection (no internet access).  I tried to disable the security(by clicking disable under the security tab) but although the 2 computers say they are now connected, I cannot access the internet.  I just want to get back where I started from.  Thanks for your help.

We're back on track here.  All I had to do is reset the router, then reboot each computer.

  • Cann't enable security on listen socket

I create a listen socket on port 6666. I would like to enable security on this port. But the pull down menu of the "security" menu at "add Listen Socket" page only has "disable". why? how to fix it?
Actually all the listen sockets cannot enable security. only has "disable" to choose
    Thanks for advice!

Did you already create the security database and install a certificate? You may need a cert database with certs installed before you try to enable security on the listen sockets. Here are the docs:

  • How to change mail-enabled security group to security group

    Hi,
As a test I have configured on the properties page of a security group an email adres. By doing this converted a security group to a mail-enabled security group. Also this group has been transferd to Office 365. But after testing I want to make the distribution

  • Windows 8.1 Ent eval enabled Secure Boot I think

I want to get my laptop back to its original format.
    Currently dual booting Windows7/8.1
During the installation of Windows 8.1 Enterprise evaluation it paused to say it was going to enable secure boot.  I did'nt think much of it I thought I could change it back from the bios.  Did it flash my firmware?  I checked the system status
with msinfo32.exe; was legacy mode and with powershell; secure boot not supported.  I don't have any options to disable secure boot in the bios nor from within Windows -"I know how to disable it in windows 8.1".  I can't boot a foreign
operating system, but I can boot a Microsoft OS which sounds like secure boot to me.  I want to get it back to running Windows 7 dual booting with Linux.  I use both at work and need both.  I made the mistake by loading the Eval on my primary
laptop.  I read I need to revert back to Windows 7 completely, formating and re-installing the OS.  Will this clear my secure boot simulation issue?  I have not changed the partitions or removed any O/S's.   What's the best way
    to proceed?

    Hi,
I want to explain that, Secure Boot is indepent with system, you can disable it in UEFI interface.
To disable Secure Boot, you can follow the steps below:
1.Before disabling Secure Boot, consider whether it is necessary. From time to time, your manufacturer may update the list of trusted hardware, drivers, and operating systems for your PC. To check for updates, go to Windows Update, or check your manufacturer's
    website.
2.Open the PC BIOS menu. You can often access this menu by pressing a key during the bootup sequence, such as F1, F2, F12, or Esc.
Or, from Windows, hold the Shift key while selecting Restart. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options: UEFI Firmware Settings.
3.Find the Secure Boot setting, and if possible, set it to Disabled. This option is usually in either the Security tab, the Boot tab, or the Authentication tab.
4.Save changes and exit. The PC reboots.
I found an aticle that teach how to install dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a PC with UEFI hardware:
    http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/10/11/dual-boot-windows-7-and-ubuntu-12-04-on-a-pc-with-uefi-hardware/

  • How to Enable Secure Boot on UEFI Systems?

SymptomsWhen attempting to enable Secure Boot, the system does not allow you to select the option to enable or disable Secure Boot.  This is due to the way Acer's UEFI implementation requires a Supervisor Password be set in order to access this option.
UEFI is a newer technology that replaces the older standard BIOS.
DiagnosisCreating a Supervisor Password in UEFI will allow you to access the Secure Boot options. It is important that you remember this password as it will be required to make any changes in the UEFI interface.
SolutionCreate a Supervisor Password to gain access to the Secure Boot option.
Refer to our FAQ for all the steps on how to access Secure Boot on Desktops, Notebooks, and Tablets:
Enable or Disable Secure Boot in Windows 8

Kostet schlappe 150,-€. Mal schauen was beim Acer rauskommt.Vielleicht gibt es ja noch einen Jumper um das UEFI BIOS zurückzusetzen

  • Satellite L840/020 - Cannot enter BIOS after enabling fast boot option

I have a Toshiba L840/020 (PSK8LA-020007) notebook. I recently installed an Intel 330 Series SSD and Windows 8 Pro RTM 6.2.9200 MSDNAA on it and enabled Fast boot option in the BIOS (Boot speed > Fast).
Now I can not get into the BIOS no matter what I do. I tried pressing power button while holding down F2 (as suggested by few other forums) , up on failing that I tried all F keys and Esc, but nothing works. I also tried repeatedly pressing F2 while booting, connected an external USB keyboard and pressed F2 on that , but no matter what I do I cannot get into the BIOS.
When I go to Download section of Toshiba support > Windows 8 64bit, I can also see a BIOS update for my notebook, but when I try to install that I get the following error :
    Error
    Flash process will be terminated!
Current platform have secure boot feature, it must provide NV storage location by IHISI interface.
Please contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the feature.
Without this IHISI interface, the authenticate variables will be modified or cleared by flash process.
If you understand the risk and still want to flash.
You can add the following setting in platform.ini to ignore error.
    [EngineeringErrorDisable]
    SkipSecureBootProtectionCheck=1
    OK
I didnt change platform.ini and flash, without first seeking help from the community.
Please let me know how to get into the BIOS. Thanks.
    null

    Hi
Try firstly INS button and then F2 button.
Then you should be able to access the BIOS I recommend disabling the fast boot in the BIOS if you could successfully enter the BIOS.
    Regarding the BIOS update.
I checked the Toshiba AU driver page and it seems that the BIOS v6.20 is the same like for Win 7.
I think that the BIOS update should be done running the Toshiba preinstalled system since Win 8 is not officially on the market yet and from my knowledge there are some big restrictions updating the BIOS running Win 8

  • Dual booting S540 and linux with Secure Boot?

At some point I intend to install archlinux with dual boot on my Thinkpad S540 which currently runs Windows 8.1.
All the current advice about dual boot on UEFI machines seems to indicate that the way to go is to disable Secure Boot (and Fastboot) for Windows, and then do the linux install choosing a linux bootloader to allow booting either O/S. I believe I know the steps needed to do that.
Does anyone have any experience with dual booting Windows 8.1 and ArchLinux on the S540?  I would like to retain Secure Boot for Windows, and in the ideal world have Secure Boot running for ArchLinux also. However Secure Boot is fraught with problems for Linux. There are a few distributions such as Ubuntu which will in principle support Secure Boot but I only use ArchLinux and want to install that particular flavour of linux on my machine. It is of course possible to keep switching Secure Boot on and off in the BIOS before booting either of the two installed operating systems but it would be neater and cleaner to have it all with Secure Boot on, or all with it off.
This is all very new stuff so there may well be a lot of problems, but it is worth exploring. I use rEFInd as my bootloader on another UEFI desktop computer to boot ArchLinux so I am familiar with that bootloader, but dual boot is another thing, and Secure Boot with the fast moving developments in that area is something that until now very few people have tinkered with.
    Any replies and guidance/suggestions appreciated.

I'm guessing /boot can run from ntfs, however probably not as efficiently as if it were running on ext3/4. Mine runs on Ext4.
To add confusion, you only create one Extended partition, all partitions you create within the Extended partition are called Logical partitions. You should be able to create enough Logical partitions for your needs.
Primary/Extended partitions are normally sda1-4 and Logical partitions will usually start from sda5 on modern Sata HDD systems.
For /boot I would create a small 100mb Ext4 Logical partition. This partition cannot be inside LVM nor encrypted when using Grub1.  I'm not familiar with Grub2.

  • Will not boot after 10.10.2 security update

I downloaded the security update as usual. computer starts to boot back up, gray screen with Apple logo & progress bar gets 2/3 & stops.
I restarted, used the disc utility to check & repair errors. nothing found. Re-installed os, but nothing works.
i know this would be a pain, but if I remove the internal drive. Place a new on inside the machine & put the old one in an external enclosure. Install os on computer & drag old files from external drive. Would this work?
    thanks,
    matt

I can get to the internet recovery, instal lion, but it won't install, says I have a newer version installed & it won't let me do anything.
    what do you suggest?

  • Need 2 disable "Checking the Status of the Embedded Security Chip"

This takes ages. Tried going into the BIOS and setting Client Security to both Disabled and Inactive. I also disabled cssauth in my startup and that didn't work either.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The most efficient way of stopping this message is to remove "Client Security Solution" from Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Going in the BIOS and trying to remove it in safe mode will NOT fix this issue. I know it's painful waiting for it to check that status each time, but this is controlled directly by the CSS software itself.
    Hope this helps.
